Since then, I normally make an appearance right after lunch and before the dinner crowd starts. But, I have to tell you. The place is and never has been too crowded. Compai!! I had high hopes for this place based on their overall rating and the fact that they referred to their rolls as "maki" (so I thought this place was going to be legit). The rice used for the rolls was just wrong- dense and cold (like the rolls you get from the grocery store). Definitely not light and fluffy as a sushi rice should be. The lady was convinced that was what I ordered which I don't really know how those rolls sound similar, but she stated I couldn't eat the caterpillar roll anyways because I was "pregnant", I have given birth already & am no longer pregnant which was beyond offensive. Food is good, prices are average, my issue is the "service" charge at the end of the bill. Apparently if you have a party of 5 or more there is a service charge although this isn't stated anywhere on the menu, the door, or from the waiter/waitress. We had 2 adults and 3 kids. It's also confusing how they add it to your bill. It is not told it is for a party of 5 or more and it is the gratuity amount. I would have left a tip for as much if not more than this service charge, but I don't appreciate it being forced on me. Especially considering our party consisted of 3 kids not a table of 5 adults. I asked for recommendations and the choices were delicious! See the pics below for all the amazing food we got! We ordered the chicken and beef bento with the sides being sashimi and tempura. The rolls were lion, lion king, spicy tuna roll, and some other amazing rolls! I highly recommend! Went here for lunch and enjoyed every bit of it! Ordered a couple of rolls and they were so delicious! All fish was fresh and portions were great! I also got the bento box and the chicken with the tempura was also good! One setback I wasn't a huge fan of was the imitation crab in the California roll, but it did state that it was imitation crab for the California roll, so it was expected. I personally don't go to sushi houses for a California roll, so this was not a big deal to me. The place was open, had a lot of Windows to get good lighting, service was great because our sever wAs very attentive. My family was celebrating my brothers birthday. We had originally decided to go to Mushasi, however the restaurant screwed up on our reservation and gave us attitude about it when we called. So we decided to go to Matsuyama instead. Thank god we did. Service was top notch and food was awesome! Everything from the bento box to the sushi rolls we got were so yummy! They were very attentive to our needs and even brought the food out strategically to not overwhelm us. We will definitely be going back again real soon. P.S. For a sushi restaurant in Tracy, this location isn't too bad. I can admit I've had better sushi, but this definitely settled my cravings. Our order: - Miso soup - Sashimi appetizer - Ika Fry (tempura squid) - 'Bad Boy' roll - 'Reno' roll When you go to sushi restaurants, you want to judge their quality of fresh fish. Their sashimi was colorful, full of flavor, and had delicate texture. This was a plus after having miso soup that was actually hot, and not too salty. The Ika Fry wasn't tough to chew (since some calamari can be) and stayed warm and crispy throughout our course. Their rolls were good, but not amazing. (Still satisfied me!) They weren't huge, and to be honest, I don't like it when sushi rolls are humongous to where they fall apart when you try to eat them. The 'Bad Boy' had spicy mayo, and usually when spicy mayo is added to the roll -- it usually over powers the flavor of the rest of the flavors in that roll. This wasn't the case in the 'Bad Boy'. Where as the 'Reno' roll, all the flavors complimented each other with it being just a roll with my favorite types of sashimi included plus masago -- so hardly room for complaints there! All of our food came out to under $50. Pretty perfect for our Fri-date. I'm satisfied, and will probably return if I'm ever on this side of town and craving sushi. Came to visit my family last weekend and was in the mood for some Sushi. Seen their awesome reviews on Yelp and decided to order several of their roles. This place did not disappoint. I was really surprised by how cheap their rolls were. I live in the Bay Area and I'm usually paying $80+ for 5 rolls. I ordered 5 of their rolls and the price was about $50 and some change. You honestly cannot beat their prices. I honestly forgot the names of the rolls I ordered , I only remember one being called crunchy scallop roll and it was amazing. I've been to many sushi spots and I hate when every roll you order tastes the same or similar to each other. Each the of 5 rolls I ordered had different distinct tastes with no similarity and all so delicious. ---UPDATE--- Sept 2017 Dropped considerably in quality. Chicken Teriyaki is very poor nowadays! Definitely has gone downhill since my last review. So we stopped in just after noon on Saturday and the place had plenty of open tables. The service was quick and the sushi was fresh as could be. We also order some bento boxes which as others stated are deconstructed which means they bring the food in separate plates but all at the same time. The Chicken Teriyaki is good, almost as good as Tracy Harbour and that is saying a lot!! 5 Stars for food 5 Stars for service 4 Stars for size of restaurant 4 Stars for prices (Could be a bit cheaper) Overall, I would rate at 4.5 to 4.75 stars! This was our go-to sushi spot in tracy until now. I placed an order via phone for pick up and was quoted 25 minutes. We came into the restaurant after 30 minutes and was told that they haven't started our order yet.... what?! We ordered garlic edamame, salmon skin maki, and a bonsai roll. We had to wait another half hour for our food and received no empathy, apology, or acknowledgement. If anything, we got rudeness and a cold shoulder. Side note, if you're used to crispy fatty salmon skin I don't recommend it here. It was like they skinned the salmon after a light pan fry, lacked that rich taste. I judge sushi based to how difficult it is for me to eat it bc i actually dont love sushi. Ive only recently started liking some (I dont like seaweed and raw seafood). Matsuyama is officially not just my favorite sushi place in town, but my favorite sushi place ever. I'm the type of person who doesn't care to eat raw sushi rolls. So I've definitely tried my share of baked sushi rolls such as The Lion King roll at multiple restaurants around town. After trying Matsuyama's version of this roll, I am hooked. From the way the salmon on top is perfectly baked to the delicious sauces they put on it, it is definitely my favorite roll of not only the various Lion King rolls I've tried, but of any sushi roll I've ever eaten. This is my second time eating here 2 days in a row. That's saying something. Their miso soup is also hands down the best I've ever tried. Unlike other places, it is not watered down or flavorless.
