My family and I had a wonderful experience here today. I coordinated and communicated with Christine, who answered all of my questions and was always very kind. Today we spent two hours there (the allotted reservation time) enjoying some flights, glasses, and bottles of wine as well as their meat and cheese platters. With 7 adults came about 7 different palates, and we each were able to find a wine (or multiple) we wanted to drink. We also ordered one of their Cheese Boards as well as one of their Mixed Boards. Everything was fresh and tasty, with great variety, and was presented so nicely. Children and adults alike enjoyed the Boards. Dan worked with us on site today and made the experience so pleasant. He spent a great deal of time thoroughly explaining each wine in the flights, including how the weather impacted each varietal, which we all enjoyed learning about. He was very attentive and was extremely friendly & patient. Ultimately, when our reservation time was over, we were disappointed to have to leave, as we all enjoyed the food, drink, service, and ambiance. My girlfriends and I had an awesome time at Mattebella. Christine is super informed and really nice. They let us bring outside food in -- which is not usually allowed -- and gave us free, amazing fig jam to accompany our biscotti. It was a perfect combination. We loved their Old World and Famiglia wines. I'd say this spot had some of the better reds we had on the whole North Fork. (We didn't try any of their whites.) Grounds are gorgeous and it's quiet and a bit more secluded. Not a big corporate affair. Which is prefer. Charcuterie is served. Pelligrino too. The outdoor seating area is comprised of bistro tables on stone patio overlooking lush flowers & huge vineyard. And there are these intimate small gazebo type seating for smaller groups to hang out together and relax while enjoying the tasting flights. Too, there is an event space which is reminiscent of a greenhouse. The service is attentive. Staff is cordial & knowledgable. Not my fave wines on the northfork but the experience & surroundings are relaxing. Whites were definitely better than the Reds. We purchased a steel barrel aged Chardonnay. read more

It's strong, but literally delicious & fruity (but not too fruity) & refreshing. The staff was amazing. Our waitress was an awesome rockstar. The olive plate was delicious. The crostinis were unique, crunchy & totally tasty. My favorites were the carmelized onion, fig & prosciutto, peach & manchego. The venue is beautiful. There's tons of tables, lovely little cabanas & lots of umbrellas. The property is huge and open. My one and only complaint is the fact that bathrooms are porter pottys, but they did a good job of making sure the stall wasn't horrendous (candle & flowers & soap in the ladies stall). This was quite possibly the worst winery I've ever encountered. The bathrooms were glorified porta potties, the seating was miss matched furniture and the wine tasted like Trader Joe's two buck chuck that has been sitting on your counter for a week. The sitting spaces here are so cool. They have tons of tables and little nooks you can share with friends. There are fire pits, blankets, games, you name it. It's a shame that the portable toilets they have really water down the image they were selling. I can't imagine the person who designed the outdoor space also approved those bathrooms, ew. As far as wine, there are lots of wine options and flights on the menu, there's bound to be something for everybody. We have been coming here for years. It is a small family Vineyard that does not take busses. It presents a low key ,resort type atmosphere. The wines are excellant. (I'm told as I do not drink). The cheese and meat boards are great as well. All in all a great place to spend and afternoon, without the hustle and bustle in many of the larger vineyards. read more

Very underwhelming. Staff was rude and questioned me if I really did want the cheese and meat charcuterie board. So many bees that you were unable to eat your food without getting a bee almost caught in your mouth. They switched our seat around 3 times because they didn't know exactly where to put us. You couldn't really tell who was working there due to lack of uniform or lack of name tags at least. You had to take a guess at each person to see if they worked there. Came here on a weekday in early June. The winery was not busy and we were quickly helped by the owner, Chris. She was extremely friendly and helpful in helping us decide on wine we might like best. I recently got married on the North Fork and wanted to host a bridal luncheon for my bridesmaids on the Friday before the wedding. I really wanted to incorporate the vineyards into my weekend but had a really hard time finding somewhere that would serve us lunch and be able to enjoy the wine. Most places were asking me to pay a site fee and hire a caterer, which would have been a very expensive ordeal. I then found Mattebella, this family owned vineyard who went above and beyond for my luncheon. They offer delicious food, including AMAZING cheese boards with high quality meats and cheese, duck sliders, crostinis and goat cheese and onion tartlets. I was worried it wouldnt be a filling lunch, but Christine assured me it would be plenty. When we arrived they set the table beautifully, with a canopy nearby to shade the food as well as a water jug filled with mint a lemon- such a nice touch! I would highly recommend this vineyard if you are planning a gathering, Christine was so meticulous and spoke with me for months before the day. She was so kind and accommodating. Came here to celebrate "fathers" day for my mom since she was the rold of both we celebrate her 2xs a year so I saw all great ratings and was like YAHH let's do this. Well, here is my story.. I gave it 2 stars because of the atmosphere. It is so beautifully done. Flowers ans seats all in the garden, they have swinging chairs that are really fun too. Saw the crostini were here, I'm vegan.. absolutely no choices for me. The only things that they did have that was... she didnt have. My sister said hers was good tho.. but for one piece of bread with toppings was 6$ ... The wine wasn't good at all. Everything tasted the same. The flight was a RIP OFF. This winery exceeded my expectations! My husband and I visited with some friends whom are wine club members here and are always raving about it. We had reservations as it's a small winery and sometimes hard to find seating otherwise. The area reserved for us was a quaint little 'shed', almost like a greenhouse, complete with chairs, benches, and a large table with a gas fire pit on top. They even provided blankets in case we were cold! There were additional tables outside with heat lamps as well. The bathrooms are port-a-potties but they are clean and well-maintained. We were greeted immediately upon arrival and seated in our area. We were presented with menus and our server was super friendly and helpful with any questions we had. As it was my first time there, I had the vintners select flight for $32 which was a mix of white, red and rose wines (8 tastings total). Much to our surprise, our tasting was paired with several crostinis covered with brie, fig jam or bacon jam to help us better taste all the flavors of the wines. Those were delicious! One of our friends got the fall sangria which we tried and it also was delicious! It had a cinnamon taste to it. In addition to our wines we had ordered a olive and napolitano loaves, as well as several flavors of crostini. I was amazed at how fresh all the ingredients tasted as well as the presentations, all impeccable. We were also greeted by John and the owner, whom were super friendly and knowledgeable about the wines on hand as well as the wine making process as a whole. The staff as a whole were constantly checking in on us to see if we needed anything else during our visit. My favorite wine was the 2013 red while my husband thoroughly enjoyed the steel Chardonnay! They serve two drinks here outside of their wine tastings. One was a watermelon cocktail and the other was a Rose sangria. Both are amazing. It's not cheap, but I felt it was worth it. It seems those drinks are only served during the busy season so get your asses down there before the end of September to enjoy. Also, they have Bocce ball courts.. which is pretty cool. WOW! I can't believe I am saying this common yelp saying , but this winery is really a "hidden gem"!! Sorry we made it here towards the end of our stay out east. Such a beautiful vineyard! There is the vineyard and then gardens which are beautiful, lots of different seating arrangements: from outdoor sectionals, tables with umbrellas, gazebos, swing chairs, regular chair seating. The manager, Maryann , couldn't have been more welcoming or friendly. Such a relaxing experience. It was the perfect balance of the very casual vineyards to the more formal, fancier vineyards. The wines were reasonably priced and refreshing. You can stroll, and there are three bacci courts. We had crostini with Brie and crostini with fog jam and Gorgonzola, delish! I can say enough positives about our experience. We went during the week, so although there were certainly people there, I'm sure it is different on the weekend. On the weekend I was told there is a full menu . When choosing which wineries to go to, make sure you include this winery! read more

This is my favorite vineyard in all of the north fork. It's just so beautiful and relaxing. Feels as if you are in someone's backyard drinking wine by a garden. I've been here numerous times over the last few years and it has always been a great experience. I honestly have had good interactions and service from those working at the vineyard each time I've gone. One con I would say though: the bathroom situation. Another beautiful winery along the North Fork! Skip the big boys and head over here with a small group to really enjoy what the east end is all about. There were good tunes, comfy seats and excellent wines all while sitting along the vines. Do yourself a favor and order the rosé sangria! (It's a mix of their rose, lemonade and fresh fruit). It's incredibly easy to drink and the fruit is fresh. When you get your first round, I would put in an order for round 2, bc you're gonna want it. Our server John was amazing. He was very knowledgeable about the wines he served us and gave us thorough explanations of how they were made and what type of weather makes for good grapes for wine. Vineyard We were tooling about the east end and looking for open vineyards - not an easy feat in the winter, and we drove past Mattebella, which had an "opan" flag flying. After a few moments of discussion about if either of us had ever been there before, we pulled a u-turn and and went back to try it out. This is a rather new place and is really not much of a vineyard in that there are no signs and the world's teeniest tasting room... essentially a large shed turned into a small living room. It was cozy and hard to find as there are a few possible shelters off to the left of the parking area and none are marked. We heard some voices and headed in that direction to a makeshift thing wrapped in heavy gage plastic, only to find out that was not the place... those nice people pointed us to the shed thing and in we went. The owner and his friend are certainly nice enough and their wines were decent. Some were just not ready for prime time and others were tasty - so there is plenty of room for improvement. The comfortable seating area is surrounded by vines and flowers, with soft music and a fountain in the background. When you pull up the driveway and park, look past the house and you'll see a walkway that leads to a couple random small buildings. The random small building you want is to the left when you hit the outside seating area. Nothing's marked, but that's part of the charm here... You literally feel like you're in someone's backyard. The people make it feel like that someone is an old friend. The woman who set up our tasting chatted with us like she knew us, and talked about the wines in a "real" way. No pretentious air, just down-to-earth love of wine. She recommended different spots to sit and even helped gear the tastings depending on what we generally like to drink. We were happily surprised that with our tasting, they pair small food samples so we could get more out of the wine itself. I will say this is a smart move - their wine is good, but better for pairing than drinking on its own, in my opinion. She offered lots of little tidbits about their wines and was lovely. She was not a pushy sales person and seemed grateful that we wanted to purchase two bottles as opposed to expecting us to. Just lent to the backyard, friendly feel and I appreciated it. For its calm and inviting backyard atmosphere, pretty good wine and excellent people, Mattebella earns the #2 spot on our four-stop run. This used to be a good spot - too bad to see it offering bad service. We had to wait for 15 mins to be greeted. People who came after us were served while we were waiting. When finally they came up to us they said they'll have a table in a bit bit we waited for half hour without the host lying any attention to us and then they said they still don't have a table. Ah, Mattebella Vineyard what a great place! We took the drive from Brooklyn deep into Long Island to come here and it was totally worth it. Mattebella is a gorgeous little Vineyard that will surely not disappoint. Upon arrival we grabbed a table and were greeted by a very friendly British woman. All of the people who worked at the vineyard were very pleasant and welcoming. We decided to have the Vintners flight and the Sparkling flight. I would highly recommend the Vintners flight because that will give you a variety of red, white and rose. The Sparkling flight was great as well as that contained 2 roses and 1 white sparkling. From there we just proceeded to have a glass of our favorites. The atmosphere is extremely serene and cozy. We stayed here for hours just relaxing, talking and sipping wine. After leaving here you will realize that life is good. This is a great place to take a break from the hustle and bustle of the city. The entire menu is priced well and worth the money. For food we decided to get the baguette and the fresh mozzarella. Everything was fresh and superb. This is a really wonderful experience that I highly recommend you try if you like to drink wine. I had a great time here ! The location is beautiful with colorful flowers everywhere. We were able to walk in and be seated with no problem. Unfortunately, they weren't offering flights/tastings, so we had to order by the glass. The wine list is extensive and they also have a cocktail list which was awesome ! I tried a sparkling rosé and a sparkling white and reallly enjoyed them both. Mattebella definitely became one of my favorite wineries ! However, our interactions with our server were a little bizarre. Each time I ordered a drink she said "no, absolutely don't get that .. get this one instead". We never discussed my drink preferences, so I wasn't sure why she argued with both of my selections .. it was weird lol. On the second order, she even brought her choice to the table instead of what I looked asked for, and had to correct it. She didn't do that to my boyfriend, so it was annoying. Although the atmosphere was nice and had cute outside seating and flowers, the wine was very meh. We had the Chardonnay and Rosé flight and it was not very impressive. The flight came out with two tartines with Brie on them, which was a nice touch we weren't expecting. Our waitress was very nice but didn't tell us anything about the 6 Chardonnays in front of us other than to eat the Brie tartine with each glass. The other downside was that the restroom here is a single port-o-potty for women only (not sure where the men are supposed to go?). Very distasteful when trying to enjoy nice wine. read more
