Used groupons here for four small gelatos. The owner was not very friendly, but took good care in accommodating our nut allergies. He would clear a space in the gelato that was untouched and take our samples/ cups from there, which I thought was pretty good. I tried the blueberry, raspberry, and strawberry flavours, and ended up getting only the strawberry because the other two tasted rather artificial. He did give us the option of having two flavours to a small cup, which was nice. They use nice biodegradable cups here, and as you can see from the picture the cup is PACKED. I also got a chai latte here and it was quite good (and cheap compared to other coffee places or cafes). read more

Decent coffee and tasty gelato! Never had the chai latte but saw some reviews about it. I'm a big fan of chai latte so will definitely have to go back to try it. The staffs are friendly but quite busy so they can seem rushed at time. A lot of seats but we just took the gelato and coffee to go since the weather was so nice, so we went on a walk with it. Still no comparison to the gelato in Italy but it's one of the best I've had so far in BC. If you've ever have a gelato craving, this is the place to go. Came here on a Sunday during the car show. The gelato was really good, but the customer service was phenomenal. The owner was very concerned about making sure my 3-year was happy with her choice, and was willing to replace the flavour just from him seeing her reaction; most businesses I find would be avoiding such a situation. Although we didn't want to burden him with this, he volunteered another flavour onto her cone to make sure she's happy. Come for the customer service! Enjoy the great gelato! read more

The guy who review this saying that the owner was very impatient and rude was confirmed today. When i ordered the flavour that i want, he told me it was hard. Gelato usually was not that hard. The flavour i got was mango and hazelnut chocolate it taste like artificial flavour. The cone was much worse than superstore. The gelato ends up in the garbage. The owner hold the gelato with his bare hands without gloves and mask. I cant recommend this gelato. read more

Hi , I really like their Gelato and is near me BUT.. the owner guy is super unfriendly, never smiles, seems like you are a bother , .He didn't wear a mask and gloves( hello we are in a pandemic and you are handling food!). Like the review below one of the gelatos he said was too hard to serve- Ok so why show it -or put a sign on it ? I like going there but only if the owner isn't there. Seriously he needs to smile and say hello for this his business! Super grouchy! So I hear that Bella's Gelato is all the rage, and I haven't had the chance to try it (yet).. but I don't think I need to look that much further after trying Matteo's! Sure, they don't have lineups down the block, nor do I need to drive 35 minutes and pay for parking DT, but man, they serve a pretty extensive menu of flavors! Everything is made from scratch, and the 2 girls who were serving us were extremely friendly! 1 was really excited about mixing flavors, and she was showing me her favorites. Whether its in a waffle cone, or a cup, its 4.29 for a small, 4.99 for medium, and 5.xx for a large. I went for the medium, and apparently, you can mix however many flavors you want together! I tried the chocolate peanut, with espresso, and chocolate hazelnut. I think its amazing that they allow you to mix as much as you want - the girl even said one time she filled up a cup with 40 flavors for a customer! Anyway, its close enough to home, I get to skip the lineups, and I had great service from the girls. Will definitely come back again, and spread the the word! Oh, and in case you're looking for a cool place to eat, I highly recommend Sushi K Kamizato a few mins drive away in the plaza :) read more

O.M.G. My son and girlfriend took me here after dinner one lovely evening in June. The thing is, going ' out for ice cream' or gelato in this case, should be a nice experience, and this place does not disappoint. They are wildly popular, for good reason. The gelato is homemade and beautiful. Too many flavours to mention: new ones, and also traditional Italian ones I haven't seen since I was a mangecake living in Toronto - Torrone. They have bistro sandwiches and panninis for lunch but we didn't try them - next time. But you know what sold me? The great manager and the staff. And, the patio is VERY pet friendly. I wasn't sure so went in to politely ask - remember this, crazy dog people,not everyone wants to eat next to your dog........BUT they said, of course! and presented me with a bowl of water AND a doggie biscuit. When I went to order a kid's vanilla gelato he knew it was for our dog and offered a mini one. What a guy. We sat on the patio and all really enjoyed our treats, me, my son, his GF, and my fur baby. I like that you're allowed as many flavours as you want in one size but the gelato here is overly sweet and the owner is unfriendly. I tried 8 flavours, surprisingly the lime was the best since it wasn't as sweet and had a strong lime taste to counter the sweetness from the other flavours. Not the best location - the smell of burned diesel on the patio isn't great - and they lack options besides ice cream (some sandwiches would be great). I heard about this place for a while now, however, considering the location it's been taking me a lot longer than intended but well worth the wait. Oh my goodness. I wish I hadn't been in a rush, I would've ordered a drink, sat down for longer and realllly enjoyed the experience. Overall, I'm giving them a 4/5, and below is my breakdown: Customer Service: 4/5 -- the two girls who were working that day were both lovely, and more than happy to let my friend and I try different samples whiling explaining to us what their specials were. When I told them that I had a Groupon voucher, they grabbed a phone to scan the barcode and asked me to show them the voucher. I held my phone up and one of them grabbed it to scan it. Didn't check to see if it was okay, just grabbed it to scan. That was a bit off putting and part of the reason why I didn't give 5/5. Gelato: 5/5 -- if I could go back, pay full price and get to eat all of it, I would. Yes, you can believe it. It was absolutely delicious! Barring the hour long commute, I'd be out there as often as I could if I actually physically could. Ambiance: 4/5 -- location-wise, it's a little in the middle of nowhere; I'm glad I had a GPS. Overall though, the cafe looked very well maintained and clean. It had a cozy "please sit down and have a cup of tea" feeling to it and I wish I could have stayed longer to fully enjoy it. We've eaten a lot of gelato and ice cream in our travels and Matteo's is one of the best in the Lower Mainland. They have a good selection of flavours and high turnover so their gelato is always fresh. I'd recommend it if you are into top quality gelato. read more

I had my first experience at Matteo's Gelato yesterday. The gelator is yummy, prices are reasonable but the owner is really not a very nice person. Its really unfortunate as it seems like it would have been a great little place but customer service is key and he really was not doing a very good job on that front. I have never been to a place where the person behind the counter glares as you walk in and answers in grunts and mutters even when you try to be friendly. A real disappointment but if you don't care about customer service and just want good gelato, this would be the place to go. read more

Miserable rude horrible man working there! Went in with my husband to get gelato we literally both walked out after being at the store for 8 minutes. He kept walking away, let us try two flavours each... Which wasn't even of the flavours be basically dipped the taste spoons in the gelato and got a cm of ice cream... Like okay? If your this miserable maybe stay home for the day. Not to mention he was handling a dirty disgusting ladder in between walking away to do god knows what, and trying to "help" (more like avoid) us. They also do not do milkeshakes and he has 3 flavours of dairy free gelato... I would have liked to tell you guys if it's good or not but we didn't get to sample a thing! I love this little place in my new hometown. There is a great selection of gelatos and some of them are dairy free and/or sugar free - everyone should be able to find something to obsess over!
