Wow! This restaurant brought me back to a time in Italy. The dining experience was worth it and enjoyable. Guy was very knowledgeable and helpful during our dinner. It wasn't busy and the noise was at a moderate level with low volume music being played. The food was hot, fresh, and delicious. I even gave Guy a list of ingredients to provide the bartender to make a drink not on the menu and the drink came out perfect! My family had been hearing great things about Matteo's Trattoria, so we decided to celebrate a birthday there on a Sunday night. We made a reservation that day, and our group of six was seated promptly at 7:30 PM. The ambiance at Matteo's is exceptional! A live singer performed classic "Italian" songs, which created a vibrant atmosphere. We started with the fried calamari, which was fresh and flavorful. For my main course, I ordered the meat lasagna, and it was absolutely delicious. My brother and his wife had the Chicken Penne Vodka, which I sampled and also found delicious. The portion sizes were very generous, and we were able to take leftovers home. For dessert, we saw someone order the Tartufo, which is a vanilla and chocolate gelato or pistachio truffle gelato with a cherry filling, covered in a chocolate shell and almonds and decided to order it ourselves! It was absolutely delicious! Great decision! I actually forgot my credit card, but our server was kind enough to run to the parking lot to return it to me after I had already left the restaurant. Great place but very loud and tightly packed. Saturday night you need a reservation. Mostly older crowd here. You can definitely share an individual portion here. The chicken cutlet and the veal cutlet are too huge pieces they also have a family style which is three pieces. The food is pretty good and the waiter was excellent and addressed us in Italian which I loved. I would probably have enjoyed it more for lunch if it's a more relaxed quiet atmosphere but that's the environment so either deal with it or don't go here. read more

Took business associates to dinner party of 10. The food and service was excellent. Food is really big portions and I don't think anyone finished. Everyone enjoyed the meal and liked the atmospher. I was hesitant upon arriving since I'm not from here and booked based on Open table ratings. When I seen it was in a strip mall I was really concerned. This is not an Italian Restaurant! The food was marginal and extremely expensive. I have five medium-sized cheese ravioli, nothing else, salty, and $40. $8 per ravioli. Everything was overpriced. The noise is deafening. The entertainer shouted songs catering to a crowd that understood the words. For the entire 2 hours, the singing never stopped, the clapping to songs that were distracting to eating dinner. The only Italian song was Volare. Sat down for dinner at 6:30, served apps within 15 minutes, and they were excellent. Waited 2 hours for our dinner, and when brought it was entire different than what we had ordered. Waiter tried to tell us that's was what was described on the menu. We asked to see the menu, pointed out what we had ordered and it was totally different. He then proceed to give our wrong order to the gentleman behind us who ordered the same as us. The gentlemen was so angry he kept it and to appease him, he was given side of pasta. We have be going to Matteos in Hallendale for over 20, and always had a fine dining experience, but last night was extremely disappointing. The manager never came to our table to ask what the problem was and how he could rectify it, and the waiter told us he did not want to argue with the chef. Very nice Italian place. We came here a little early on a Saturday night without a reservation and were able to promptly get a nice table on the patio. The patio was pleasant on a nice balmy evening with the sunset in the background. The waiter walked us through the menu and gave advice ordering. We started with a smaller portion of mozzarella and prosciutto and it was very tasty and actually a large portion despite being the "smaller" size. We then split the Branzino and a Pappardelle dish. The Branzino was nice, light and tasty. The Pappardelle was also good. What really stood out was the thoughtful and gracious service. Waiter was one of the best we've had at any restaurant in a long time. read more

New Year's Eve. We are long time customers of your restaurant and have never been so angry or upset by the staff of a restaurant ever! We planned on spending New Year's Eve we you and had made reservations 3 months in advance for 8:oo PM. We were a party of 2 and waited, without complaint, for 45 minutes to be seated. Standing. in the doorway was very uncomfortable especially for that evening.! Because they had added additional tables and we had just been seated, we asked to be moved the next table over, slightly out of the traffic area and that had just been vacated, but the waiter refused as did the hostess. Then the waited decided that it was OK to sit next to my wife to take our order, very uncomfortable! The waiter, named Guy refused to take an appetizer order; he tried to insist that we had to order everything at once and was quite rude about it. When we told him we were not ready to order our entrees and certainly not a dessert and told to give us time he finally put in the order. After we had the meat and cheese plate we ordered our entrees and were served at 10:00 PM. He never stopped to enquire about the food or to check to see if we need anything else. At10:30, as we were eating, he came and told use to "hurry up, I need the table". Then told us "you have been there longer than a anyone else and we were taking money from him and he needed the table to seat a new group". He claimed that we had arrived at 7:00 PM and then told me I was lying and we did not have 800 PM reservations. He also rudely told my wife that she was not eating fast enough! He had a terrible attitude when he talked with us. We came for New Year's Eve and certainly expected to stay until after midnight, to relax and enjoy the live music and celebration. We then demanded to see the manager and Guy got angry and threw 2 of the empty plates from our table into a bus-tray on his way to the kitchen! I then demanded the bill from manager, Gianluca Matulli, paid and left to get our car at 10:40 PM, with our uneaten meal on the table. My wife was very upset and was left standing without any support, comment or consideration from any staff member waiting for me to pick her up. She cried all the way home. Your staff was happy to accept payment for a meal that we did not even finish eating due to the rudeness of the wait staff and management. We never expected to have a New Year's Eve celebration restricted to a 2 hour visit!! Our opinion is that the staff must be changed! This was a horrible experience and we will never return nor recommend Matteo's in Hallandale to anyone! Ruined the New Year for us as well. read more

So extremely disappointing. I have not been to Matteo's in awhile and after tonight will probably not go back. I remember the times when the good was wonderful but tonight it was mediocre at best. The stuffed mushrooms were ordinary and not very tasty. My husband ordered the veal parm and he said the meat was not tender and had to ask for sauce to moisten it. He basically left the entire dish and we took it with us to give to someone less fortunate instead of throwing it away. In the past when two servers would have seen that the food basically was untouched they would have had the captain or manager come the table to see what was wrong. No one cared. The food was not the same as in the past and it is a shame. read more

This is a really great place to escape and unwind. We sat at the bar and were really entertained by the bartenders. The host is also very charming. They have music on Fridays and the guy is a great singer. I ordered some beer and a Matteo chopped salad. They have two sizes to choose from. It has iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, onions, olives and red peppers. This is a great salad. I had a big lunch or else would have ordered a pasta dish. We went for dinner tonight as a party of five. The appetizers were delicious (calamari, Burrata stuffed mushrooms, and mussels.) Somebody in our party ordered a shrimp dish with rigatoni. When the plate came, it came with penne. When the person whose plate it was mentioned that she had asked for rigatoni the waitress was very abrupt and told her just eat it. It's all the same. First of all the tone in her voice was offensive. Just because it's pasta doesn't mean it's all the same. Also, this is food that we're paying for. It's not get what you get. She ordered something she wanted. The waitress must've thought about it and came back but initially, she said it would be an hour to get the pasta substituted out to what was originally ordered. The veal chop at the table was undercooked. The pasta on two of the dishes was not cooked enough. It was definitely harder than al dente. Despite waiting outside for 15 minutes, numerous individuals continued to arrive and were promptly seated while I remained standing with no available seating. It appeared as though they were doing me a favor by allowing me to dine there, so I decided to leave. Loved the ambiance! We felt as though we could have been in Italy. Waiters were Very good. Food - well, I ordered branzino and asked that head and tail be removed. Unfortunately, that didn't happen and there were quite a few bones in the fish. What I ate was good but due to head, tail and bones I only ate a small portion. Delicious food and great service! What more could you ask for. Our server was very helpful and friendly. The pasta dishes are pretty big so I would recommend sharing a few family style. Me and my cousin each got one - Penne Ala Vodka and Fettucine Alfredo - and couldn't finish them. The ravioli dish however is good for one person. All the meals were delicious and we ended dinner with a huge slice of chocolate cake and limoncello shots. Everyone down to the host was super friendly and welcoming. It's times like this where I wish Yelp had a negative star rating. I honestly feel as if I was racially profiled at Matteo's by the wanna be fake Versace maitre d'....maybe that was Matteo. Regardless, several guests walked up clearly WITHOUT reservations and were immediately accommodated. However, for whatever reason Fake Versace guy got all flustered when I approached him and gave my parties number (two of us) as if I had insulted his knock-off polyester shirt. "We cannot sit you! Excellent food! We got the penne vodka and ricotta ravioli with a side of brussel sprouts, all amazing. Our waiter (I think it was Gerry, but he looked like Anderson cooper) was great at explaining the menu and all of the specials. The atmosphere started off chill as the clientele was all older people but as it got later, the music was bumpin and it was a party (if you're into that).
