But I have to admit that Inka Grill in De Phillips is a tad better. Lomo Saltado was cooked well, just didn't have much of a soy sauce flavor (maybe this is more authentic. I don't know). Since I'm not Peruvian I'll give this the benefit of doubt. Wifey loves the ceviche. Her comment is that it's in the top 3 of places she's gotten Ceviche. Lemme tell ya, she orders a lot of Ceviche. El Tayta disappoints - twice in one week!! First visit: $130 bill, very slow service, and our waiter vanished on a food delivery, left us unattended for 15 minutes. No one came to care for us and I had to flag someone down to order more drinks. Second visit: $90 bill, I asked our waiter if they really charged me for an ice tea refill and an aggressive owner comes to our table to argue with me. She made $3 on a $.05 refill and lost three good customers. BEWARE: Automatic gratuity, 3.5% card fee, and misleading and sneaky double-tip prompts at bottom of receipt to make some diners tip twice. This is my 4th time trying Peruvian and out of all the places I tried this one hands down is the best Peruvian. Try their cilantro fish soup, cueso with tuna and of course roasted chicken. Visited this restaurant for lunch, it's a hidden gem in Hallandale. Plenty of parking on the plaza where is located. I was greatly impressed by the food. The menu has a wide variety of Peruvian dishes. Seafood was really good. I tried the corvina dish with a salad and as a side order the ceviche. The food was very tasty and delicious. The ceviche had a lemon sauce and the veggies were soft, the fish tasted very fresh. My party and I also tried the "picarones", as dessert, they were very similar to donuts but sweeter and more crispier. Great prices for great quality dishes. After a horrible experience at Angela's On The Beach, we returned to the mainland and tried to go to Matteo's but it was of course completely full. We were still hungry, and this place was empty, so we went inside and I could grab a cocktail. I had the Sangria. It was good. I ordered Tiraditos Bicolor choosing Kalamata Olive and Ricotta. Awesome dish! It's a mix of ceviche and puree. Very pretty and the food grows on you as you eat it. It was definitely a learning experience for me, and I want more! Portions were standard. Fish was fried well but under seasoned. Garlic sauce was very tasty. Service was horrible. Server was great before food arrived. After we got our food, he was serving other tables and taking phone orders. We had to flag him down for EVERYTHING we needed. He apologizes but says he has too many tables. Um. Staffing is not my problem as a customer. This is not a big place. He certainly was going in and out to the other tables consistently. We get the check. Gratuity at 20% has already been added. We question the server. Gratuity is added automatically to groups of 4 or more. I have heard of this for groups of 5 or more. And I usually spy this within the fine print on the menu. We didn't bother to question further. We paid and we won't be back. I could stomach the automatic gratuity if we'd had good service. We did not. What a disappointment... as a fellow Peruvian I am just so sad this place exits. We drove all the way from West Miramar to get picarones because a friend recommended this place to me. We ordered Tacu tacu con Camarones, tacu tacu con ají de gallina and picarones as a dessert. We paid $23 for the Seafood Tacu Tacu and we get watery tomato sauce and I received 2 tiny shrimps you find on the instant noodles. Go somewhere else, there are many more places that do better. The only good dish was the Tacu Tacu with Ají de Gallina, it was creamy and had good flavor. Finally, the picarones was sooo dry and it tasted as it was made out of a box. I asked the waiter if they had a specific person making it and she told me there is a different chef on weekends... (we went on a Tuesday) On top of that they are auto charging for 20% gratuity and charging 3.5% service fee on credit/debit cards. The restaurant should be paying for these. Not us customers. Food was great! Dining outside on the patio was nice, but the service was sub-par. This business strictly enforced mask-wearing-- unless they know you. We watched this happen while eating breakfast. The host who greeted us upon walking into the restaurant did not like my mask, and he told me that it was not "FDA Compliant", and that I could go next door and purchase a "FDA Compliant mask" to eat inside. My boyfriend asked the host if he knew what FDA stood for- which he was finally able to figure out, and then after that he came up with "CDC Compliant". We all had masks, however, he did not like my mask. Then he said, "if we don't have masks, (aka masks the host liked), we could eat outside. We were seated outside facing the door, and a couple walked in for lunch. The young man didn't have a mask, but did in his car, and were seated inside once he got his mask). The third family who were seated inside the restaurant was a mother with 4 children- the oldest daughter looked around 17 years old, and as they entered the restaurant she said to her mother that she didn't have a mask. Our whole table heard her tell her mother this as they walked inside. They were seated inside right away. The host knew who they were and was familiar with them. As we were seated outside, (after all of this mask drama created by the host who was so worried about the germs my mask would be spreading), we were given dirty menus to order from. We had to ask for clean menus, which arrived 10 minutes later. I have mixed feelings about our meal experience at El Tayta- the food was great- but no one needs all of this crazy non-food-related drama before a meal... And double-standards for locals versus all guests is never appreciated- and is noticed by patrons. While dining in the future, we will eat elsewhere. If you are coming to El Tayta for breakfast, they have a few menu options for a traditional breakfast. In my opinion, El Tayta is a solid Restaurant for lunch and dinner options. read more

‼BE WARNED‼ This has to have been one of the worst experiences I've ever had at a restaurant in my life, ever! All because their menu clearly states their specials Monday through Friday 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. As I attempted to placed my order, the waitress abruptly informed me that today, Labor Day, a holiday, the specials did not apply. I politely asked to speak to the manager given that the information on the menu was different than when the waitress was telling me. When the manager came over she also very rudely confirmed what the waitress had said, that today given the holiday specials were not in effect. Not only is this contradictory to any type of common sense, but what made it worse was the attitude that not only the manager and waitress gave me but all the other servers who were eyeing me from a cross the bar. I stayed because I refused to let their shortcomings and lack of professionalism put me out. This place offers dine in during COVID and they practice safety and cleanliness. They've blocked off every other table and you can only look up the full menu on your phone. Poor quality and overpriced food. The ceviche(17) portions are minuscule and didn't feel fresh. The Chupe de Pescado(18) was blend, with good cheese and egg, but the breaded fish on the watery soup got a viscosity quality to it. We order Pollo a la plancha for kids (10) and we got 7 pieces of chicharrón de pescado with French Fries. The Jalea (21) was the best of the night. We shared it as our consolation prize.
