However, for whatever reason Fake Versace guy got all flustered when I approached him and gave my parties number (two of us) as if I had insulted his knock-off polyester shirt. "We cannot sit you! You can wait at the bar and see!" All this while her nervously fumbled for a piece of paper to jot down my name. We happened upon this place while shopping in the plaza, and since it was dinner time, we decided to give it a try. It was okay, and certainly worthy of three stars, but I'm bumping it up a little for extenuating circumstances. Let me explain; Italian food is one of my favorite varieties, but what I really like is Italian-American cuisine. Most of the Italian restaurants we have in America do not serve authentic Italian food. They have the same names, but it's not the same. I didn't understand this until my first trip to Rome. The lasagna was very disappointing, and I had it at several different restaurants. It's not the way we make it in America. Now, on this particular day, I happened to be with a friend who is Italian; actually born and raised in Italy. So, he knows what authentic Italian food is. And he loved it. So, since the restaurant is billing itself as authentic Italian, and they got it right, they deserve five stars. But I wasn't really looking for that, I wanted Italian-American (this is America, after all), so I only thought it was worth three. I'm averaging it and giving them four. Really, you have to try it for yourself and see if it's what you like. I had a very simple spaghetti (angel hair) with sausage and meatballs. It was okay. I've had better, but I've had much worse. Had to share my family's wonderful experience at Matteo's last night. We reserved a table for 14 for a pre-birthday celebration. My dads turning 90 this weekend and we wanted yo have a family dinner before the day of the actual party . We called in advance to change the time of our arrival and the number of people - and all we heard was "it's no problem". The food was delicious, the service attentive and there was a singer who made my dad feel very special by singing happy birthday to him. I hope the "real party " is as good as this dinner was! My family and I dined at Matteo's Trattoria on a Saturday evening recently. We made a reservation for 7:30 PM a few days prior and were confirmed. We arrived at 7:30 PM and the hostess advised us that it should be about 5-10 minutes for our table to be ready. The 10 minutes passed and we didn't have an update from the hostess on our table. We went back to the hostess for an update and a man came over (I'm assuming he was the manager or owner) and started becoming verbally aggressive with us and said he's not sure when the table would be ready as they had a rush of people come for their reservations an hour late because the Hallandale bridge came up and now the restaurant is packed. We told him that we had a reservation and they need to abide by it. He told us it's not his problem and asked us why the bridge up is his problem and then he stormed off. I wanted to leave due to the way we were being treated, but one of my family members wanted to dine there because of a previous positive experience from a few years ago. So about 15 minutes or so later, they had a table ready for us, and it took us another 10-15 minutes for us to be greeted by our server (45 minutes after our original reservation time). He took our drink order and then the server vanished again, and finally came back for our food order (1 hour after our original reservation time). Drinks: We ordered a round of the Perfect Pear Martinis and a bottle of wine for the table to share. The mixed drinks were pretty weak, so I would not advise selecting drinks from the bar. We ordered the Matteo Chopped salad large portion to start ($23) and it was a big portion, and perfect for a party of 4 to share. For entrees, we ordered the Chicken Parmesan (large portion for $32), Veal Pizziola (large portion for $37), Rigatoni Bolognese (large portion for $32), and the Mixed Burnt Vegetables (green beans - small portion for $14). It took about 30 minutes or so for the food to be prepared. The server was very absent the entire time of the meal and we tried to get his attention a couple of times and he seemed to ignore us. We tried to flag him down for about 20 minutes to get our check and we couldn't ever get his attention. I eventually walked into the kitchen and prior to getting in the kitchen, one of the servers stopped me and that what the only way we were able to get our server's attention. The food was good, but way too expensive for the lack of service in the restaurant. I would not advise anyone to try Matteo's and look for other Italian options in the area. read more

Great evening at Matteo's! Jonathon took great care of us - provided us with great recommendations. My partner and I ordered the burrata and the Gorgonzola salad to start. Both of which were terrific. The salad was so refreshing with various flavors exploding in your mouth. Then we enjoyed the penne vodka and the absolutely spectacular Bone-In Veal Valdostana. Highly highly recommended the veal! Last but not least the live music was a great touch. Hearing the crowd sing some songs as well was very sweet too! Overall a great experience! read more

Went here Valentines night. Ambiance and atmosphere still very nice. Had music which was enjoyable- that's where it ends. They sat us in back room which I don't care for. We had a rude waiter ( don't remember name). Everything came out in slow motion. Took forever for bread. Took forever for drinks- no water refills. Waiter could care less. Food quality seemed to go down hill from last visit. Ordered apps, pasta, and main course - all just passable. Dessert came right out of the box not even served with garnish. Sorry to say this will be our last time. When you get a cocky attitude...you show you don't care about the guest. I Joined friends for a birthday celebration at Matteo's over the holidays. While the service was very good I was disappointed with the food. I ordered Branzino which was mediocre ...ok but really bland and the portion size was very small (smallest I have ever been served in a restaurant) Considering the price. Terrible. Went for my moms birthday dinner (60th) and it couldn't have gone worse. Long story short - terrible service, mediocre food. Our server forgot to put our app order in. 45 minutes later he's wondering why we haven't ordered food.... Still waiting on the appetizer. Then we finally order, it takes 1.5 hours to get out (pretty sure the waiter was intentionally ignoring us). Our 730 reservation didn't see food until about 930. A small piece of cake was brought out at the end for my mom's 60th birthday, but don't worry that was on the house and they made sure to let us know that several times. We ordered a $29 large order of an Eggplant Stack which was a small order of 2 horrible stacks of soggy eggplant, unripe tomato a mozzarella. Stuffed Artichoke still had the choke in and served in a puddle of broken garlic sauce. Gnocchi was from a frozen bag, chewy and topped with a thick pink sauce and mozzarella, terrible. I went to Mateo on May 31, 2024 to celebrate a special occasion with my wife. At first everything was wonderful, until I went to the bathroom and saw first hand one of the cooks with a WHITE apron leave the bathroom after taking a number 2 and not wash his hands. I yelled to him and said "Hey are you going to wash your wands." He proceeded to ignore me and walked directly into the kitchen. I raised this concern with my waiter who did absolutely nothing. What a lovely restaurant. Literally a gem hidden on Hallandale strip. The inside reminds me of the old school Italian restaurant. I was pleasantly surprised by the food. It was extremely good. The bread they served was hot and delicious. The red wine we choose was super tasty. Our server Caesar was so knowledgeable and such an angel the whole time! We ordered the zucchini fritters and im so happy we did. I think that's the best zucchini I've ever had. He suggest we try the special and I'm happy we did. We had the mixto linguine. It had shrimp, Calamri and mussels in a white wine sauce, al dente to perfection. My friend is Italian and he was even impressed by the food and wine. I'll definitely be frequenting here more often. Wonderful resturant and waiters were amazing but the absolute worst entertainment! My watch went off 4 times because of volume, management knew and told the horrible singer but she continued to raise it and let her child sing. Very rude and when asked to lower it, she gave out table glares every time she raised it and sang louder. Very horrible experience. Recently went to this place for a large celebration with a big party and DO NOT RECOMMEND. We had a large party here recently and while the food tasted good, I thoroughly hated the experience and will never go back to this place. Please avoid at all costs. From the second my party sat down at this restaurant, it seemed very clear from the waitstaff that they were going to try to get us in and out as fast as possible, as well as offer the least amount of options available. For example, our group package included drinks, coffee, tea, and house wine. Not only ne single time was I or my guests asked what we wanted to drink or if we wanted to refill our drinks. Every single time we wanted a refill of wine it was a huge hassle. In regards to drinks such as water and soda: for the several hours that we were there, myself, and my wife did not get one single refill of our soda or water the entire time. I discussed with the rest of my party and they all had similar experience on the other side of the table. In regards to the food, while it tasted good the portions were very small. For example, we paid $60 a person and one of the meals included in our package was veal Francese. The waiter put out three plates of this, which were all very small and informed me and my wife that that was the max that we would be able to have. Each plate Had 4 to 5 pieces of veal, which means that there was not even though got each member of the table to have one piece. When would think that the staff would make this clear to us while we were booking the table that there may not be enough food. We brought this up and they begrudgingly brought out another plate and made it very clear they were not happy. Another example: the staff put one bowl of pasta in the middle of a table of 20 people. Please explain to me how are 20 people going to share one bowl of pasta in the middle of an extremely long table? I personally did not eat some of the food at the table so that my guests could try everything. The restaurant was also extremely responsive to me and any questions that I had PRIOR TO DINING. However I texted them after the experience we had and suddenly they do not answer me. For that reason I am making this review. Please avoid. read more

We chatted about books we're reading & exchanged titles. She was so complimentary & authentic. Hugging many, chatting with all. Matteo (I assume) greeted everyone whether in person or on the phone with such warmth, I swear he knew everyone last person! Charming & genuine! Eduardo (my personal waiter) was engaging and his recommendations were spot on delicious! I really don't understand the bad reviews. My family just ate here tonight and loved it. Apps: we had the burrata, corn and avocado salad, and Caesar salad. The Caesar dressing was some of the best I've ever had. Other apps delicious as well. Mains: pictured below I had the shrimp scampi. Sauce is nice and light, not too heavy. I didn't want to make a scene because my kids was hungry and was waiting for their food. On top of that my waiter was DRUNK or high not sure on what. His breath smelled like alcohol and he then started to serve the penne la vodka and he tipped the large platter of the food ALL OVER MY 11 year old daughter . I got very upset and noticed the manager just looking at us, he didn't even do anything about it just saying oh I didn't see . What happened ? He said it was just a mistake I said that was the 3rd mistake you made since we been here I got up and said I'm not paying for this service was absolutely horrible food was cold and the drunk waiters and crappy manager is the cherry on top . The food is good, although not as good as it has been in the past. Our experience last night, however, was ruined by the service and the ambience. This restaurant claims to be an elegant, classy establishment, however, what we experienced was a club-like atmosphere with lackluster service. The food took forever to come, and we had to ask our waiter several times to give us water and drinks. He seemed to not care or not be able to control the situation. The worst part was the loud singer that limited our ability to have a conversation at the table, and was frankly painful to listen to. Despite asking management to lower the volume several times, they gave us lip service. Even worse, two large parties started to dance and sing loudly next to the singer, which was next to our table. They were basically on top of us, causing a lot of noise and making our experience even worse. Management did not seem to care, so we asked for the check and to pack up the rest of our food in order to leave as soon as we could. Worst part was that a 20% gratuity/fee was already included by the time we wanted to leave we didn't want to deal with it. Nothing was comped, as I would expect after such a disastrous experience. I went there with family. Zach the waiter was okay. He stood around and I had to wave like wonderama to get his attention. The appetizers were good. The main courses were not cooked well. We mentioned to Zach and he response was, "Oh." I was driving and drinking water. He asked my guests, who were drinking alcohol, many times. He never asked me and my glass was empty when he was there. I asked him to fill it and he walked away. When he returned I mentioned it again if he could please full it and again he walked away. So funny story. We moved east in June to be by the beach. This restaurant we see everyday because it's next to Starbucks and so we decided to try it. So we are outside and we're the only table outside. During our dessert another couple who knew everyone sat down. The first server greets them. Maître d' comes and chats with them about how to build business and overcome the bad reviews. Discussions of Marketing, Under new management signs, new name.and branding and.social media to rebuild...... Another server comes talking to them and here is how conversation went. Server: How are you guys doing? Customer (lady): Depressed because of the state of the USA Server: I'm looking out for the United States of me (his name) Customer: People are sitting in limbo Server: yeah people don't know if they're coming or going. All I know is I'm not coming. Seriously WTF. Close your doors, terminate everyone, start fresh. You have an internal cancer going on with the way your staff handles things. Food was very good (not great) Service- guy forgot appetizer, water and bread . Then the other servers language.
