One of the most memorable stays that I've had on a vacation. Miles and Matsumi we're so warm and welcoming and made you feel at home. They give you an extra personal touch that you won't get in a traditional hotel room or Airbnb. The lodge is in a great location and a short drive to great hiking destinations and downtown, and their recommendations for local hiking did not disappoint. One of the highlights was having a delicious home-cooked breakfast and meeting new people. Coming back after a hike to fresh bake cookies was a nice treat as well. BEST STAY ever! We stayed at the Indian Garden room, which has a small patio/balcony for days that you want to stargaze at "home". WE loved our stay in Sedona. The room is technically the smallest, but I believe quietest room in the house. It's on the 2nd floor and it's just a quaint space. It offers everything you (may or may not) need. Clean, hot water, and pretty much anything you need for your stay. There's a common living room area and kitchen (for breakfast, or if you need water, hot water, tea, etc.) There's a small refrigerator in case you need to store. Parking is available on site. While you will need a car to get in and out of the area. It's very convenient. Masumi and Myles are fantastic hosts and we found out that they're from the same area where we are currently living. If you are looking for a special lodging experience, I highly recommend staying at this cozy B&B! We were so fortunate to have discovered this wonderful refuge for our Sedona vacation! Our group of five was so comfortable in the "wing" created by booking the Ponderosa/Bunkhouse and Hacienda Zen rooms. We enjoyed getting acquainted with our hosts and the other guests as we enjoyed our delicious and filling breakfasts every morning. Freshly baked cookies were a welcome treat at the end of the day. We are closing out a 5 day, 4 night stay at this adorable bed and breakfast and I can't say enough good things about it. The location is convenient to Fay Canyon and Boynton hiking trails, and to town. We rented the Ponderosa and Bunkhouse for 3 adults. The Ponderosa has a comfortable king bed and fireplace. The Bunkhouse has a queen and two twins. The two rooms share a bathroom with a nice tub and shower. The hosts, Myles and Masumi, are the nicest people you will ever meet and they are great resources for some less crowded, but wonderful hikes and restaurants. Each morning starts with a delicious breakfast prepared by the hosts. Since I have a gluten sensitivity, they took extra care to make sure I had options that were just as tempting as everything else. Now this is the real deal if you plan to visit Sedona (and enjoy meeting others who you may or may not pass up in hallway OR at kitchen table). My first time visiting (Sedona and Bear Lodge) and it was fabulous. Myles is an awesome cook and he checks in with you the night before to verify your preferred breakfast time. Discrimination against families, rude staff(front desk), and forcing you to pay full price for two rooms because of it being a busy holiday, but not allowing you to stay because you have an infant. Exceptional service! Extremely kind hosts who go above and beyond. We unfortunately had to leave earlier than expected, but they were very courteous & understanding of the change of plans. There are places that speak to you, and Sedona is one of them. A special place, where vortexes exist and the sounds of the natural night fill the silent air. We all desire to travel to places like Sedona and although we can bring our bodies there, very seldomly do we cross paths with people who open the doors to the land as well as ourselves. Myles and Masumi are down to earth people who hosted 3 wonderful nights in Sedona. The lodge is warm and cozy and every morning we woke up to the smell of hot breakfast cooking. During our morning conversations over delicious, meticulously made breakfast, Myles and Masumi soon became the old friends that we longed to catch up with. Among many interesting topics, we spoke about points of interests and the folklore behind Native American Flutes. Throughout my travels I have always enjoyed the sights of different places, but never had I felt connected to the land as I did during my stay at the Sedona Bear Lodge. If you have been exhausted by your daily life, you must visit Sedona and stay at Sedona Bear Lodge. Masumi & Myles (Owner) will treat you like their family. We have stayed Sedona Bear Lodge twice already. When we visited Sedona this February, we hiked Boyton Canyon which Masumi recommended the most. It took us 1.5 hours to arrive to the top but it does worth it!!! We enjoyed amazing view of Mother Nature. It was absolutely one of our best hikes ever. On that night we soaked in the Jacuzzi & looking at stars. I am surprised stars in Sedona's sky are big and bright! We enjoyed our quiet time and it was so relaxing. (Don't forget to try a massage chair in their living room) Next morning, it's time for famous breakfast made by Masumi & Myles. Masumi bakes homemade bread every morning and Myles prepares the breakfast. I love their breakfast burrito; it's so delicious Breakfast menu changes everyday so you never get bored. If you love bear, you should check Masumi's bear collection. She has a great selection of Smokey Bear and other bears. You can purchase Masumi's original Sedona bear or other staffs for souvenir. Where do I have to start about this place? First, let's start with the tenants, Matsumi and Myles. They both made my fiancée (Laura) and my stay the best it could possibly be. The way they relate to you and allow you to become family changes the entire way you will look at lodging. Talking to them throughout our stay they were beyond helpful in offering advice on where to go and what to do. They have many books and pamphlets about what to do in the area, and despite the fact that they are still new to the area; they went out of their way to make sure we were treated supremely well. As for this cozy house, it simply engulfs you in its aura, and it feels like you do not want to leave. Walking in immediately, you will see the dining area, where your amazing breakfasts will start (I'll discuss later). You will also see to your left pristine living room with a comfy massage chair among large snug couches ready for you to be enveloped in. The outside has a large Jacuzzi; however it was a bit too chilly to use it just yet. The outdoor porch is amazing and welcoming, especially with the views it provided us when we sat outside. We were allowed to tour the entire house and see each room. Each room is well worth the price levels they put on their website. Among options for rooms you have the Indian Garden, good for a lone visitor, or for a family trip you may want to opt for the Ponderosa/Bunk House, large enough for the whole family. We opted for the middle option, the Hacienda Room, which had everything a couple could need for a weekend trip. Finally, the food.....My goodness. Each night before you retire they will ask when you want your food made, and it was spot on timing from their end. First morning, we had breakfast burritos with salsa. Sounds simple right? No, no, you're mistaken. These burritos were handcrafted by Myles and Masumi, and came with a build your own fruit, granola and yogurt area. Along with this comes a carafe of fresh OJ and fresh coffee all made as you wake up. Finally, there is a frozen twist! Myles makes this frozen fruit smoothie, each morning a different type. The next morning, we were provided an outstanding chopped ham and cheese dish which was partnered with a sunny side up egg atop 6 separate sautéed veggies. Once again, same yogurt bar and a different frozen fruit smoothie. They will hang around with you, opting to make wonderful morning conversation and gather what you did the night before and what is to await you that next day. This may very well occur the night before as well, if you aren't exhausted from your travels that day. They have a quick-boil pot which will allow for a quick cup of relaxing tea for yourself. Heck, they are always around and ready to put on a spot of tea for you, or help you. That's what makes them so great. At the end, we truly didn't want to leave, but we were told that this was now our own "home away from home", and that we "must stop by so we can see you next time you're in town". We truly won't forget this spot. They've earned customers for life, and we will always make sure that when we stay in Sedona, we stay at the Sedona Bear Lodge. I am not even quite sure how to begin this. Do I talk about the room? the food? the hosts? because all three were simply amazing. My wife and I were celebrating our 5 year anniversary by taking a trip to Las Vegas and Sedona. While in Sedona, we chose the Bear Lodge based off reviews and room photos. Neither did this place true justice. We stayed in the upstairs private room called the Indian Garden. When we arrived in Sedona , it was in the middle of a cold snap and was 19 degrees outside. I was concerned that we might be cold in the room, but I was wrong. It was very very warm and toasty and there were no drafts. We would have never been able to tell it was that cold out side. The room had a private bathroom and balcony as well. The balcony served us greatly as I am an avid Star watcher and we arrived in the middle of the Leonid meteor showers. It was a wonder to see the shooting stars from the privacy of our balcony. We were very impressed by the comfort of the bed and the cleanliness of the room and bathroom. The public area had a massage chair that my wife got a lot of use out of and Myles and Masumi were gracious enough to get the hot tub that is out side cranked up so we could use it. We used it everynight. Nothing better than being in a hot tub when its that cold. Looking up from the hot tub offered us great views of the open sky and stars. We even saw the International Space Station transit overhead. What a delight. Next the food. Words can not describe the food. I can't even find the right ones to describe how good the food was. The four breakfasts we had were Breakfast Kebabs Breakfast Burrito (If you plan on going on hike the day you get a breakfast burrito, make sure to ask for some foil. Take half the burrito on the hike. You will thank me later) Loco Moco Blueberry Pancakes Myles and Masumi made everything there and boy do their efforts work out in your best interest. I have been to a lot of breakfast and brunch places and never. NEVER. have I had such wonderful food. The Loco Moco is a traditional breakfast from Hawaii. I have never experianced it before , I am glad I did. It was the best thing I have ever eaten. All the breakfasts come with a little fresh fruit sorbet / glacee dish. I can not impress that this is the place to say if you love food. We ate dinner out every night in Sedona and would definately say that If Myles and Masumi opened up a full service resturant. It would instantly be the best thing in town. Finally the Hosts. Myles and Masumi are so wonderful and gracious. They made sure that our needs were met and that we had all the information needed about the local sites and sights so that we didn't miss anything that we should not. We have been to some bed and breakfasts where I was kind of put off by the hosts, but These two I could have sat and listened to their stories for hours. Their wealth of knowledge of the area and graciousness made a wonderful stay for us. Stay at the Sedona Bear Lodge when in town. You won't be disappointed. read more

We stayed with Miles & Masumi at Sedona Bear Lodge in April 2016 for our "babymoon" (pre-baby trip!) getaway from the Bay Area. It was perfect. Quiet, relaxing, adorable rooms, and *delicious* homecooked breakfast. Can't stress enough how special those meals make the trip! My husband is not a "bed and breakfast" type-of-guy and even he was very happy. You can get lots of information about Sedona if needed from the Lodge, or can kick back and relax if you want, too. This is the best accommodation I've ever paid for, and it's worth every precious cent. I may still be in my late twenties, but I used to travel a lot for work (i.e. Marriott Platinum status) and so I have developed precise evaluation criteria whenever I had to stay at places on my own dime. Here are the top 5 reasons that you should stay here: 1. FOOD. Resounding another review below (or above, I don't know how the ordering works), You're losing money by not staying here! Sedona is a touristy and expensive place for food. Breakfast easily exceeds $10 per person and at Bear Lodge you'll get the best breakfast there is. Our breakfast was a really fancy and beautiful breakfast burrito, homemade cucumber and papaya muffin (amazing), homemade pear sorbet (a-freaking-mazing), fruit dishes, homemade cookies, etc. I just drooled on my keyboard. 2. MEMORIES. The owners (Masumi and Myles) are an absolutely wonderful people who place your experience at the top. Not only do they provide the materials for you to create the souvenir, they also keep the memories of every guest they've had. A whole lot of fun toys you can use here too-- multiple telescope for viewing the moon and the stars, books, massage chair, hammock in the back, swings, etc. 3. BEST BATHROOM. It's super clean, spacious, and they provide everything for you. It feels like staying at a Category 4 or 5 hotel in Marriott terms (out of 7, and 7 is a Ritz-Carlton). It's the best thing you can ask for after a fruitful day of hiking one of the many beautiful Sedona trails. 4. BEST GUIDES. The owners really have the love for Sedona and its energy; they really position you right with the peacefulness that you should be experiencing here. Aside from giving you the best tips on sunset, hiking, photos, and food, they also have a delegated fridge to hold all the water bottles you can take for your hikes. 5. PEACE. If you're staying at one of the hotels or complexes, you should expect exposure to some absurdity of the youngsters running around at night, dogs barking, or plain drunk people. Light pollution is kind of a problem if you're around downtown too. At Bear Lodge, it's completely silent at night and dark (as in... you literally can't go walking around at night without your own lights). Absolutely beautiful. You'll absolutely love it. read more

This was my first time staying at a bed-and-breakfast and the experience here was amazing. The hosts were unobtrusive yet warm and welcoming. I stayed in the Ponderosa room which had an extremely comfortable king-size bed with a nice gas fireplace which warmed the room perfectly. It had all the amenities of a nice hotel but the intimate feeling of a B&B. Plus the price was extremely reasonable, less than most of the basic hotels and motels in the Sedona area.
