Delicious ice cream but the young man working behind the counter used a derogatory term (n word used to negatively describe Black people) and that was unacceptable! We were a group of Black women in town for the weekend when we had a taste for a sweet treat. We were trying to decide between Mattheessen's or Mikes just next door but went with Mattheessen's. Upon entering there was a rap song in which the guy servicing us audibly said the "n word" which was used in the song. We corrected him and told him he shouldn't say that word to which he laughed and shrugged with no apology or regard for how it made us feel. Half our group decided not to get ice cream but the half of us who had already ordered continued eating our dessert. Unfortunately, it was too late for us to change our minds. The ice cream was delicious especially the chocolate covered key lime pie but I would highly recommended that no one visit this establishment until their employees are taught to be more respectful. read more

Better than expected! Sometimes big flashy cookies are less than stellar, but not the case here! They are pricey but worth it for a special treat. We picked out an M&M cookie which was flavorful and chewy. We also tried the peanut butter fancy and it was so good. Chewy, soft and the toppings were also soft and chewy! When you first enter they had a tray with cookies to try and the peanut butter cookie was delicious! They also have ice cream and I tried the Cuban coffee flavor. As someone who has been drinking Cuban coffee since elementary school, I approve! To be honest, I couldn't tell if it tasted like Cuban coffee or regular coffee, I am just a fan of coffee ice cream.
