I'm about to put a lawsuit in on Mathews & fields lumber co. They are taking forever submitting unemployment insurance claims paperwork and I want my back pay. I already got hired at three different jobs which I'm going to work all three cuz I'm a beast like that. 2 part times and a full time. At least 2 of them I'm taking for sure. but I want my back pay. Don't ever work for Isiah Bingham or his dad or that lumber yard they suck! After 10 months of all the overtime I worked in extra work I put in when no one else did And I couldn't even get a single dollar raise or even over any sick days or vacation. If there ever was a company that operated not by the books it's them. I swear I don't even think they have a book to go by. Either that or they lie on all their paperwork. And they should be safety audited. I got injured pretty much everyday because of unsafe working conditions and poor training. They treat their employees like crap and the other employees treat each other like crap and swear and yell and are completely unprofessional. I worked hard. Meanwhile, the lead on the truss table is always on his phone gets to take however many paid days off He wants and takes as long of breaks as he wants without any repercussions. He does not lead and he does not train or answer questions from his co-workers, just greets them with disrespect and arrogance. I voiced my concerns on safety and the mistreatment of each other there and was only met with confrontation and my supervisor even put his fists up and threatened me and told me to shut my mouth. I redid my deck boards, and this is the worst lumber I have ever purchased. It's completely cracked after 3 months and has shrunk at least 3/4 of an inch and it's still going. The owner John said it's checking. You should've dried it in your garage before you put it on.. I thought this was kiln dried wood ! Sad! I spoke to a lady today who also did the same as I did, and she's having the same problem and cannot believe how cracked the boards are. I have never bought wood that is this poor.. read more

Well, I just stumbled upon this YELP website while looking up the "hours" for M&F. Wasn't planning on leaving a review but felt compelled to do so after reading the review by Harry G. I couldn't disagree more! Mathew & Fields has always been a "top notch" business. Yes, you sometimes have to put up with a few "quirks" when dealing with a small, hometown business. Several years ago I was remodeling my front entryway and needed some 8' MDF trim cut to 6'. I remember the gentleman described by Harry G. A little rough around the edges? Yes, but overall a good guy. Complaining because the guy is black and "scared" poor ole' Harry? Give me a break. Thank God we still have lumber yards like Mathew and Fields. The big box stores have put so many of these "little guys" out of business. read more

I ordered an Anderson replacement window sash from Mathews & Fields- the old broken one was 20 years old. I talked with their customer service rep. Over the phone - Carrie. She was incredibly helpful! The window had to be custom ordered - she was very knowledgeable and followed up with phone calls in order to get the exact window I needed. There are so many variables: window series,glass size, sash size, color and glass color. Just installed it. It was perfect. Will also buy from them. Super Company. read more

If I could give NO STARS it would be too much. I phoned in an order and was told to go to the Back and pick it up at "Customer Service". The first problem was after I parked in a place that would be out of the way and walked to the "Customer Service". When I told the man that I was here to pick up an order. He rudely told me "it's over there" and when I point to the sign that says "Customer Service" he steps aside to reveal an arrow and sarcastically tells me "It's an ARROW" that he was blocking from my view. I then had to get back to my car to get it closer to the "CUSTOMER SERVICE DOOR" and again parked it out of the way. I go to the "CUSTOMER SERVICE" door and wait some more. One Employee walked right past me to the "CUSTOMER SERVICE DESK" and ignores me and heads back into the yard. So I wait, and wait. I got tired of standing in the Sun waiting for some "CUSTOMER SERVICE" and decided to CALL THE OFFICE, as the phone rang over 20 times a lady appears to ask me what I'm there for. As she went to get my board a Black Man wanders into my area to ask "What do you want ?" She returns with my board and I am stating my complaint as I'm loading it into my car. She spoke a meaningless "I'm sorry" and as I'm moving to my Drivers Door, I "get a feeling" and as I turn around, the Black Man is less than a foot from my back. THIS REALLY UPSET ME. In this time of Pandemic and Racial Unrest, I turned and said to the Black Man, "You really shouldn't be coming up on my back like that." To which he shook his head as he passed me and gave me the "dismissive hand wave" and said nothing more. That was a RUDE and RACIST gesture. I can guarantee that if I walked up on his back like that there would have been a problem. I could have bought the board at HOME DEPOT for $20 but decided to give a small business $30 to be treated like that. "Customer Service" is VERY POOR and Mathews and Fields apparently doesn't need my money. read more

I needed to order new gaskets for my Andersen sliding door. They helped me determine what I needed, ordered it and told me when they would receive it. That was the date I got the call. The gentleman in back gave me advice for installing it. upon arriving home, I looked up the Andersen web site. Matthew was cheaper by forty percent. Sure feels good to shop local. thanks.. I needed a piece of composite siding for my house built in 1983. I had looked all over for something even close to my siding with no luck. I had not been to Mathews and Fields in many years but thought I'd give them a try as a last resort. To my surprise they had a product that was close in color, texture and the exact size! What impressed me even more was the service! I wasn't a contractor with an order of thousands of dollars but that didn't seem to matter. The counter person showed me the options and took the order, which arrived the next day. The guy in the back lumber yard got the board (16 ft) and offered to cut it to fit my car and loaded it up. I truly felt that my business mattered to these folks and I'll be giving them my business over the big box stores when I can. read more
