The friendly staff helped me to evaluate the cost and options of stretching myself versus having it professionally done. Everyone I interacted with genuinely seemed to enjoy their jobs and assisting customers. Thankfully I'd parked at a friends place nearby and walked over as I do not think there is a lot for the business and I hate trying to find parking in midtown.

My number one recommendation for coming here is to have a list of what you need/are looking for because you couldn't possibly just browse the shelves like you would at Joann's or Michaels. The prices are insanely low and are the reason I keep coming back for my projects despite the lengthy drive from my home. The workers are all very kind and generous, often measuring lengths of fabrics and trims more with their heart than the rulers. I have never had an unpleasant experience with fine fabrics and I visited their Norcross location many a time, as well. If you're looking to stock up on materials, make a wedding dress, or your next cosplay, Fine Fabrics would be my number one choice for fabric and notions.

My only complaint is that it can be hard to navigate the aisle due to all the merchandise, the building has an unpleasant smell, and figuring out the price can be hard. That said, once you hear what the price is, you will likely be thrilled. Also if you are interesting in making costumes? They are right down the street from Reynolds Advanced Materials making this place a winner for two stop shopping cosplayers.

I was visiting ATL for the weekend and wanted to visit some yarn stores so the Craftivist came up in my research. I saw that they host events for people to come in and work on their fiber arts a few times a week so this sold me on visiting! When I stopped in, I was greeted and there was space for me to sit down. I even got some help on my project. It was so nice to be community with people who love the fiber arts for a little while. I look forward to supporting their business since they also ship!

I recently had a private knitting lesson here…read more The instructor begin with telling me the different types of forms yarn comes in, ie. hanks, skeins and balls along with other information about knitting. After the introduction the instructor picked out a wood circular knitting needle for me. The reason for choosing the wood I was told it would help hold the yarn better for a beginner versus a metal needle. When it came time to choose the yarn I was told to make my choice from a small area. I picked a mustard yarn. The next day I received an invoice from the store because I didn't pay for the items. Silly me. I assumed because I was only allowed to pick out from a certain section that it was included with the lesson that I had paid for. Unfortunately, because the yarn I chose was quite small. It has been difficult as a beginner working with it. There have been a lot of starts and stops which I would expect but more so because of the size of the yarn. I have since learned as a beginner I should have a bulkier yarn. When I left that day, I had not gotten the hang of the cast on, or the knit stitch. Five minutes before the class was to end we had just finished casting on and that didn't leave much time for the knitting since the store was opening. Since taking the class I have been able to get the hang of the cast on and the knit stitch thanks to Sheep and Stitch on YouTube. I think the reason I didn't get the hang of it in the store was because of the teaching style. It just didn't mesh with my learning style. I would definitely recommend the classes to anyone here. Very professional staff. Because the yarn I ended up purchasing isn't good for beginners. I did call the store to see if I could exchange it, but I was told they would not accept it because it had already been wound. The staff was very nice. They were very helpful when customers came in.

They also have a paper catalog and will let you take samples to figure out what you need. Between that and being just down the street from Fine Fabric (a warehouse full of affordable fabrics you can buy for reasonable prices) these two shops should be a favorite for anyone into costuming or cosplay. At first I resisted the urge... and then I crumbled. LOL. I could stay in this store all day. It was a shared store space with The Book Bird. I love books too. They support crochet, Tunisian crochet, and knitting. They have classes and the person working there was friendly and knowledgeable. Prices were a bit high but reasonable given the quality of the goods offered and the fact that, as a crocheted, I felt welcome. I'm 54 and have been crocheting and knitting since childhood. This is the first time I've ever felt welcome in a local yarn store as someone who prefer crochets.
