    Brisket and Ribs.
    John G.

Last night and dinner on Orcas and this place came highly recommended. We got in about 6 pm and there was only one other person here. Nice homey interior with a little stage off to one side. This place must be hopping when there's music playing. Looks like there's a bar area with a pool table in a separate room. Ordered the brisket and ribs with a couple of sides. The brisket and ribs were very flavorful. Maybe a little too tender but tasty none the less. Worth the visit. Wish we were here on Friday when the live music was here.

Our first stop on Orcas Island after exiting the ferry was Matthew's and we are glad we did. Arrived about 5:30 and were able to immediately order. When we departed, there was quite a long line and the parking lot was nearly full. It was a Friday evening. The brisket - seriously - was some of the best I've ever had. It melted in your mouth and you did not need a knife - just a fork- to pry it open and enjoy! My husband enjoy his pulled pork sandwich as well. We sat outside on the patio on this beautiful June evening and the music they had playing was actually awesome.

Who doesn't like smoked meat?!?!? The sandwiches are great too. If I lived closer I'd eat here all the time. Slowly making my way through the menu.

Wow how did we miss this place. Definitely in the top 3 eateries on Orcas and dog friendly too. I had the brisket sandwich and it was AWESOME!!! Live music? you betcha. Reasonably priced for Orcas. Highly recommended.

This place was amazing. Out in the middle of no where on the island but man was it worth the longer drive. The meat was fall of the bone delicious and the sides were amazing as well. The alcohol and drinks were strong haha The staff were really nice and personable. The restaurant was cozy and homey. The whole experience was awesome! Cannot wait to come back and eat here again!

This was the only thing open that was near our lodging. It appeared to be a family operation on a property with other lodging. It has so much yard to lounge on a nice day like today. Great customer services. Seat yourself after ordering. We order ours to go. Sadly the guy in front of us ordered the last ribs and they were all out of chicken as we were going to order the BBQ Plate. We ordered the brisket plate with two sides Mac & Cheese and collard greens. Cod & Chips. Everything was delicious except for the mac&cheese. The brisket just melts into your mouth.

What a treat! Call and check the hours as they are likely to change during the year. It was open 4pm Friday- Sunday while we were there. Some items were out from the menu when we got there around 7pm so be flexible or show up when the place opens. The BBQ was amazing and I was impressed with the cod tacos. Definitely a job well done!

Such a great hidden gem, out in Deer Harbor... Totally worth your drive if you're in Eastsound. Food was fantastic... I got the ribs and my nephew got the pulled pork. He also got the mac & cheese and fries. I got the potato salad and coleslaw. They were all good, but the fries were outstanding! Might just be the best I've ever had! Ambience was great. You can sit inside or outside. Very cute and cozy and especially if you get the couches! Sadly, I have one complaint, and this is just for the owners or chef. My nephew came in with his service dog, which is the most well trained and calm dog you've ever met. We were greeted with a "no pets allowed by the chef...You have to take them outside". I said 'he is a service animal!', and the chef shook his head and said take him outside. Thank you very much. And turned and walked away. I still can't believe the way he treated us. Not the Orcas Island hospitality I'm used to.

This is an awesome place! It's self serve, you order when you come in, you can sit inside or outside & the food is delicious! My friend had a pulled pork sandwich w/fries & I had the fried chicken w/fries & cold slaw. You can see the water from the deck & there's lots of grassy area for kids to run around & play. They also have corn hole & a few other games for big & little people. The service is great & Paxton is an awesome cook!

My husband and I were staying at the Deer Harbor Inn and Matthew's Smokehouse was right next door to our cabin. We loved the food here and it was probably one of our favorite meals on the island. This restaurant is family run and not open all the time, so we were happy to be around when they just happened to be open. I thoroughly enjoyed my pulled pork sandwich. My husband ordered the BBQ brisket plate with mac n cheese and fries. We also split their wedge salad. Everything looked and tasted so good. Their BBQ meats were cooked very well. The mac n cheese was just creamy goodness. Service was excellent. We noticed that the servers were hustling back and forth making sure all the customers had everything they asked for. They have a few tables outside for dining, however we decided not to eat here. We took our food back to our room and had a nice dinner on our patio with a glass of wine. We just wish we had more time on the island so we could have come back to have another meal here again.

The ribs and brisket were very good. The sauces were good. The side cowboy beans were good. Corn on the cob was a very good side. No refills on the skinny ice tea was a surprise. We stayed inside because of the flying bugs. Others joined us indoors. It's good barbecue so we will go back. Very good ADA access. Enjoy.

Very impressive little store full of tons of stuff! Groceries, pantry staples, a small produce section, some premade deli food and cookies. I was looking for the bakery items. And on the countertop behind the register tons of croissants! I said, there they are! The two ladies working were not impressed. I asked for the flavors and the lady said, there is a menu right there. Ugh, not fully awake I realized a line had formed behind me. This is the spot to go before getting in a ferry. The sign was not clearly visible and I felt overwhelmed with the decision so I quickly decided on a raspberry almond. This is clearly a place for locals. Everyone knows what they want and where it is. Not super friendly vibes, but oh well. Took photos of my purchases back in my gorgeous villa LOL, watch for my next review. We found this place totally by happenstance, and so glad we did…read more So it's the 4th of July 2023 on our way to Fort Casey. With a little time on our hands we drive into Anacortes since we've never really been there, only passing through to catch the ferry. Realizing it's the 4th, we happen to catch the tail end of the Anacortes 4th of July Parade. At this point it's around if not after lunch time. Well with crowds and traffic we go on a walk-about in search of food and not more than a klick from our position we find this nice little lot by the marina with some food trailers. Choices, choices, choices, those being Chinese food, BBQ and Gourmet Hot Dogs. First choice was the dogs, but the line was a little long for us. So we went with BBQ...again glad we did. It was a bit of wait, since it had just opened not to long ago, some folks already waiting and one person doing food prep, cooking, taking orders and running the till, he mentioned waiting for someone else so help was on the way, but he did great, and the wait wasn't that bad. So for lunch we had one beef brisket sammy, two pulled pork sammys, one topped with coleslaw and with other with mac-n-cheese and beans on the side. First the sides, both probably one of the best I've had, no seriously. I'm not a real big mac-n-cheese guy, but this one was damn tasty. I love that I could tasted the cheese and it was not weak in flavor. I thought it was as good as if not better than that one Pike Place Mac-n-Cheese place. Then there was the beans, OMG, those baked beans were no joke...awesome! I so wished I'd gotten more of that. Then the sammys: The brisket was so tender, so juicy with some excellent flavor. Not smothered in BBQ sauce, it was just the perfect amount and tasted so good! The pulled pork sammys were excellent, lotsa pork with the perfect amount of sauce so they complimented each other flavor-wise so it's not all BBQ sauce you taste. Bottom line, some DAMN GOOD BBQ! Some restaurant's idea of BBQ is to take meat and cover/drown it in sauce-ugh. i.e. Applebee's bottomless riblets (only thing going for it is that it is bottomless-but it's nothing more than BBQ sauce with meat texture....I digress). Anyhow, the next time we are passing through, this definitely will be a stop. Surprised not to find it on YELP so I had to add it myself. It was that good! Now hopefully you can support a local small business and get some excellent BBQ too!

Unprofessional service and inconsistent quality - Not worth the "Premium" price…read more My wife and I visited Jones Bar-B-Que looking for a reliable spot for high-protein meals in Victoria. Unfortunately, after a few visits, the service has proven to be incredibly unprofessional and, quite frankly, discriminatory. The first major red flag was a takeout order of the Mama Jones Platter. The server was careless, stuffing the food into containers as an afterthought when I reminded him it was a to-go order. It arrived home cold and looked like a mess. No apology or effort was made to fix it. The final straw occurred during our last dine-in visit. After ordering, we were told they were "out of sausages" and offered extra of another meat. Because of the previous bad experience, I left a 10% tip (noting this is a counter-service model where you pay upfront). The server became visibly rude and dismissive, telling us to fetch our own plates and drinks in a condescending tone. However, moments later, the table next to us--who appeared to be locals--received the exact same platter, complete with sausages. The server was suddenly very attentive and helpful to them, bringing them everything they needed. As a non-white couple with accents, we felt completely singled out. Whether it was "tip-shaming" or something more biased, being treated like a second-class citizen while paying premium prices is unacceptable. The BBQ is decent, but the quality is nowhere near good enough to overlook being treated with such disrespect. We won't be back and definitely don't recommend this place.

Once seated, we had to ask the hostess for silverware. Started w the grilled asparagus ($25) - tasty sauce of garlic scapes, topped with pretty purple flowers that added no flavor. Good flavor, but for 6 stalks this was kinda insane. Scallop crudo ($30) was disappointing - scallop was minimal, very overwhelmed by the rhubarb. Would have expected the ratio to be balanced. Beautiful dish, no less, but this should have been called a rhubarb crudo to accurately reflect the dish. Again, insanely low volume of food. For pizzas, we got the poh-tay-toh ($28) and Gus Gus ($27 - asparagus, green garlic, tarragon, mozzarella, parm). These were more redeeming than the apps, tasty, but not ground shattering. Understandably the "ambiance" was expected since did not have reservations, but even then, the exterior was dusty and we did not feel the staff was present. Outdoor restroom was a step up from a hiking trailhead bathroom. The establishment inside is very nice so YMMV, but our experience was less than stellar. Overall, disappointed by the experience. Pizza was good, but extremely meager portions for the appetizers. It seems the focus of each dish was appearance rather flavor.
