My wife and I went here Thursday the 7th of May for dinner. I had my favorite dinner Reconsted Pot Roast Mikey says try it you'll like it . The entertainment was provided by Fawny Frost. She sings like an angel and it is a pleasure listening to and dancing to her music we love dancing together to the songs she sings. We really enjoyed our time together last night. We had my daughter and son-in-law's wedding reception at Mattison's Forty-One in Sarasota. We ended up renting the indoor (Galleria) and outdoor patio. I can't say enough about the people involved from Mattison's from the event planner, (Jacque Armstrong), the most accommodating and sweetest person to work with, to the manager, Robert, (who was also our fantastic bartender that night), to the staff that worked so hard that evening to make it all come together and perfect in every way. People couldn't stop raving about the food, amazing. All I could tell everyone is that they made this experience absolutely wonderful. I would highly recommend Mattison's Forty-One and it's amazing staff for a wedding reception or any event without a doubt. I can't thank them enough! read more

My salad barely had any dressing, I had to ask more since it was dry. The appetizer was ok no big deal , had better other places. My chicken was salty not good. The service was slow that I had to keep finding my server for stuff and my bill. The place was not even busy at all. I like the singer she was good. The place was big . Sort of a weird older vibe here. We went at 7pm on a Saturday. Brussel sprout appetizer was a bit undercooked for my liking but flavorful. I had a shrimp cocktail and wedge salad. Both excellent!! Would order these again. My husband got the prime rib on the waiters recommendation. He said it was good but not anything special. Service was very good and drinks were very good. Nicely decorated restaurant with plenty of room and spacious dining area. The server was friendly, courteous and attentive. Where it gets disappointing is the food and awful music. I ordered their special, beef carpaccio, duck l'orange and key lime tart. My wife ordered the yellow pepper gazpacho, bouillabaisse and chocolate baklava. The carpaccio has a sweet cream in the center of the plate that did not go well with the cold beef. The duck was duck leg confit , a bit on the salty side, with truffle potato. Truffle oil and orange sauce do not complement each other. The tart was ok. The gazpacho was heavy pepper with very little if any tomato. Also too sweet for a cold app. The bouillabaisse broth had too much saffron in a weak seafood broth. Two humongous pieces of untoasted bread covered with a not so pleasant rouille. Bar cocktail was good so at least the dinner wasn't a total disaster. First time here and wanted to give it shot but will not repeat. Oh and the singer was horrible. read more

Great evening Our visit to Mattison's tonight was nothing but great. It was my first visit, my wife has been there a few times for lunch. She knew they had some outdoor seating, important to us as we have so far successfully avoided catching Covid. We called ahead and went not long after they opened. We had separately checked out the menu beforehand and turns out we both decided on their Pot Roast Reconstructed. I also wanted to try their French Onion Soup, and I talked my wife into getting their Bruschetta. Needless to say, that was more than enough food. Mattison's actually has two nice outdoor seating areas. We were seated in the one on the south side. Our server was right over as soon as we sat down, a very sweet person who took excellent care of us during our stay. Within a few minutes we had drinks and table bread, a soft focaccia with a pesto butter. My French Onion Soup arrived shortly after. It was not as salty as I expected, which for a normal diner would be a good thing. I'm more of a salt addict but realize this was better for me. The Bruschetta was very flavorful. Good crunchy bread. I had initially thought they added quite a bit of balsamic but now that I reread the menu, it may have been however the tomatoes were marinated. Whatever the reason, it was moist and excellent. Looked delicious too, four nice sized pieces with their colorful toppings. Tonight, I learned what Pot Roast Reconstructed meant, and I'm a big fan. The flavor of the pot roast was perfect, and it was so tender. I'm eating it thinking this pot roast was completely fallen apart tender. My wife and our informative server helped me to wrap my head around they take a couple of cuts of meat, I believe prime rib and ribeye, cook them, shred them, form them into a squarish shape, and cook them again. Reconstructed. Aside from preferring a more traditional hardy brown gravy over their mild cipollini onion cream, this entrée was so much better than a chunk of chuck. I'll never look at a pot roast quite the same again. Not knowing what it looked like before I cannot comment on their renovations except to say the inside looks upscale with character, and popular. Off to a great start with the modernized look and sweet and attentive server. I chose off the Savor Sarasota menu that runs until Aug. 21. My boyfriend ordered the Filet and lobster. My starter was the House salad which was super delicious. The focaccia bread and herb butter were also enjoyable. Cocktails were decent but nothing special for $12 each. The reason I can't give this restaurant a higher rating is because both of our meals were bland. My boyfriend's lobster was tough. The filet lacked seasoning. My house made pasta had fresh ingredients but the garlic & olive oil sauce may as well have been nonexistent. I added shaved Parmesan hoping that would help and salt & pepper to no avail. I do understand that the area I live caters to a much older demographic who perhaps prefer no seasoning or taste? I'm not sure the reason- maybe the chef rushed - the good came out quickly. In any case, it's a nice restaurant, with a nice atmosphere and good service coupled with bland entrees. read more

We visit Mattison's 41 regularly. It's our go to place for celebrations and just because. Tonight didn't disappoint with their new menu. I had the rack of lamb and it had the most delicious cherry/pistachio sauce. The sides of roasted carrots and potatoes were also delicious. My father had his favorite French onion soup and fish and chips. The portion was so large he couldn't finish it. Our server Sean was wonderful and attentive and as always it was a special night for a birthday dinner . read more

This is our go-to restaurant. The staff is excellent. We often sit at the bar with beverage service from Kelly. We have our favorite dishes, like Artichokes Esther style and Lamb chops with salad. Valentine's Day is a special day, right? So, six of us booked a table at Mattison's 41 for that evening. The piano player provided pleasant sounds as we entered the restaurant and were seated in a far back corner close to a stand holding pitchers of ice water...Our server introduced herself as Audrey and offered to take drink orders. When five ordered water and one a soda, her attitude seemed to change (already calculating her tip?). Beverages and one bread basket with 2 small butter containers were brought (never refilled bread). Food orders taken ( 2 shared a meal, 2 shared a salad--gasp). Food finally arrived to include container of mustard which slid off plate onto table, my lap napkin and chair, his trousers and chair leg and the floor under my chair. Audrey rolled up tablecloth, added a napkin and said Robert would come with voucher for cleaning--NO APOLOGY! Fortunately, an assistant provided clean, damp napkins to clean ourselves up. Food was delicious, but for one order. All food prices seemed to be higher than usual? He was reimbursed for cleaning with a receipt and given a "free appetizer"card by Robert on a trip back. It was such a treat to return to Mattison's 41...especially now that the snowbirds have flown north. Everything about this restaurant screams elegance. And now, they even have entertainment during the dinner hours. We were treated to the piano/vocals of Joe Thayer. A delightful treat and he has quite a following. (There was even dancing!) The house manager, Robert, made us feel more than welcome and was glad to see us again. Our server,Shawn, aced it once more with his serving skills and always upbeat attitude. He and Erlinda have become our favorites there. Thank you! The beverages were spot on and the meal was outstanding. Chef Paul really knows how to wow his guests. The plates looked as good as the food tasted. Shrimp cocktail. Followed by grouper piccata and a rib eye with all the trimmings. We like going to Mattison's 41 because there are always great specials, happy hour nibbles and drinks. If there is one word to describe Mattison's 41, it would be... "consistency". read more

We had not been there since before Covid. We were pleasantly surprised. The interior has been redecorated and updated. We were always a fan of Paul's cooking but it has gotten better. My better half had the fettuccine bolognese and gave it two thumbs up. Sauce hit the correct spice level. I had the short ribs and they were exceptional. As soon as we walked in we were in love with the piano and the paintings of some of the greatest music artists of all time on there and on walls throughout the restaurant. Every course was fresh and delicious and our server, Kelly was impeccable! She was friendly, attentive and helpful when ordering (plus she has the cutest hair color). Visitors Mattison's Forty-one tonight with my family and a couple of friends. Everything was exceptional. From the hostess to the interior to the waitress, no complaints whatsoever. I was with quite a picky bunch and the waitress did not hesitate to accommodate every last one of their requests. For example; no "little spoons" came with our calamari for the dipping sauces to serve. One minute later the waitress brought out not only little spoons, but extra sauce! She was an absolute gem with a great personality and provided one of the best restaurant experiences I have had in quite some time! This is personally my first time coming to this restaurant but my mom and company have been many times before. Apparently they recently renovated and they were in shock and awe about how modern and contemporary it looks now. I also thought the interior was pleasing. As for the food, to start off, the homemade bread and butter they bring out complimentary is AMAZING. I would literally go there just for that. This was a great introduction for the food to come. We ordered three appetizers, the bruschetta, artichokes, and calamari. While I was not a fan of the artichoke dish, others loved it. I thought the outside was not crunchy enough and that there could have been a little more flavor, something I wouldn't order again on my own. The bruschetta and calamari on the other hand, WOW. I highly recommend ordering BOTH of these. Extremely delectable and worth it. The calamari was lightly battered and salted perfectly whereas the bruschetta was just perfection; it was flavorful, crunchy, savory, sweet, and just overall very pleasant. Onto the entree...I ordered the lamb cassoulet and it did not disappoint. The lamb was cooked perfectly and the sauce it came with was phenomenal. The presentation was also beautiful. Overall I rate my experience a 9/10 and would come back here on numerous occasions (I do not live in Sarasota). If you haven't been here since the renovation I sincerely recommend you go again and see for yourself (based off the reaction of my mom and friends). We came here on a Saturday evening. We had reservations. The restaurant is surprisingly large inside and was decorated very nicely. It was not crowded and they had entertainment in the bar area. Our server was professional. We tried a couple of pizzas as appetizers which were just ok. We all opted for the prime rib w mashed potatoes & grilled veg. There were four of us. The potatoes were very good, the vegetables were grilled perfectly, the meat was a nice size and the crust on the meat was excellent...however the meat was difficult to cut through even w the steak knives provided and the meat was extremely dense..not tender. our temperatures were 2 rare & 2 med rare. We will give it another try but will not ever be getting their special Prime Rib. We did not complain about anything. read more

Just got back from Mattison's. Calamari was as good as the best I've ever had. Lightly fried with two good dipping sauces. My table mate had the daily pasta dish and I had the duck on the menu. The pasta was excellent. Mine was ok. I wish it was half a duckling rather than a mix of a duck thigh and a duck breast. The duck breast was underwhelming and under flavored.. Dessert was the big disappointment. A 9 dollar piece of cheesecake should wow ya. This was very underwhelming, in fact, you can get better from Sara Lee. Don't mean to be disrespectful but that dessert needs a redo. Service was excellent. Our server Joel was an absolute pleasure. He went above and beyond and any establishment should be lucky to have him. No, I don't know him. He was just that good. So. Would I go back? I've eaten at all of the Mattison's locations and they usually do a good job. I also order takeout often but I won't be back! I ordered takeout Saturday, picked it up and went home to eat. When I opened the bag and saw my order I found out that I had not received the order I placed!! Instead of my favorite, the duck, I received a fillet with the ribeye steak that I had also ordered. I called them to ask if they could deliver the duck that I ordered and paid for. The restaurant manager told me twice that she had personally filled my order and would not deliver the duck that I had ordered and paid for! So much for Mattison's!! It was perfectly cooked and delicious. Others had Grouper, grouper, and Seafood Gumbo (which was very popular at other tables). All was great. Our server was excellent. The wine list was not over priced and contained some of my favorites. We will definitely be back when ever we're in Venice. read more

I visited this dining establishment during the savor sarasota week. The brisket poutine was to die for and the marinated strip steak was one to write home about. As soon as you walk into the place you are met with a classy and welcoming atmosphere. The staff are super nice and the service is near instantaneous. My wife and I had dinner here for Father's Day (on the Saturday just before). I was really looking forward to it based on a dinner I had had at their old location on Siesta Key about 20 years ago. I was specifically looking forward to the duck with blueberry sauce, which I remembered being absolutely delicious. Well, despite it still being on the menu, that night they had no duck. Disappointment #1. I ordered the rack of lamb instead. It was HORRIBLE! Had I known it was New Zealand lamb, I would never have ordered it. It was gamey and generally nasty. The accompanying risotto was adequate. Disappointment #2. My wife's appetizer and main course, she said, were bland and under-salted. Disappointment #3. Maybe it was just a bad night but I have no plans to go back. In essence, don't bother. There are much better restaurants in town. read more

Very nice Happy Hour! Good drink and food assortment - albeit some of the food prices are slightly higher than comparable HH places in Sarasota. Beef sliders solid at $8 but the single crab cake for the same amount was kinda small. House Cabernet not so good. Nice atmosphere around the bar, but it is on the dark side. Feels at times like a bar in North Jersey rather than a place at the Beach. This is absolutely not a knock against this location and can be a welcome relief after a long day in the bright sun. Service was solid and the guys behind the bar were quick and attentive. Singer was a nice touch - mellow - but got the crowd singing along to Neil Diamond. First time there and will not be the last. Thoughly enjoyed the whole thing. We had Audrey as our waitress. She was very attentive, but not overpowering. Was very helpful in explaining the specials and the menu. I had a few questions and she made sure that all were answered to my liking. She really made the evening. There were three of us dining this night. The lady in our party is a very light eater. Well she actually finished her dish. The other gentleman did not leave anything on his plate nor did I. Three different choices, all very good. We couldn't help but notice how nicesly appointed the restaurant was and all commented on how accomodating the bar looked. I really enjoyed the New Zealand lamb chop appetizer, which was big enough (for me, a light eater) to be my main after starting out with the calamari and beans for the table. We dined at this location yesterday, and despite my previous review, I wanted to genuinely make sure this establishment has the credit it deserves. After the previous incident, Robert, the director, went above and beyond to make sure everything with our visit was up to par and nonetheless even special. Sat promptly at our reservation time of 6:00 PM. First thing we noticed is that the restaurant was not as cold as an ice box, finally. We were actually able to enjoy our meals without having being cold in the slightest. We started with the Bruschetta and Calamari as appetizers. As for our meals we had the Honey Glazed Salmon, Mojo Chicken and Piccata Grouper. All meals were absolutely delicious and very flavorful. Our waitress was also very delightful and made sure we were doing okay throughout. I truly appreciate how Robert has handled this situation and we will definitely be going back after this very positive experience. read more
