As part of my job I have vendors that want to take me out. When it's dinner after work I usually pick Matto. I have yet to be disappointed.The place always seems busy. Its so nicely decorated and is very impresive. For tonight's meal it was two Halibut specials and they were delicious. Its my rule of thumb that if there's fresh fish as a special, go for it and I was rewarded with a perfectly cooked piece of fish. They also had an amazing cake. What a fun experience! A few girlfriends and I got together to enjoy a meal together, which happened to be on a Tuesday. Tuesdays are "Ladies' Night," featuring a $27 prix fixe menu, which was a great deal compared to the price point of 1 entree. With the ladies night special we were able to select an appetizer entree cocktail and dessert, great deal right?! I hope stays on the menu because we are definitely planning on coming back. The restaurant was beautifully decorated, neat and tidy with ornate embelishments and the staff was very welcoming! Our server, Jay, was exceptionally attentive and answered all of our questions about items on the menu, and also shared his recommendations based on what we were looking for. All four of us ended up ordering the short rib; however, we did try different appetizers, including the fig and goat cheese bruschetta, fried meatballs, roasted Brussels sprouts, and fried calamari. The serving of bruschetta was definitely a small bite, mainly because I shared it with my friends, but that appetizer alone is enough for me to come by sooner than later. I loved the combination of sweet and savory on a crisp slice of baguette! The Brussels sprouts were delicious as well, but a little too much honey for my taste. The short rib, seasonal vegetables, and mashed potatoes were enjoyable as well. I had envisioned these short ribs braised in a more caramelized wine sauce; however, it was a tomato-based sauce, so that was my only complaint. Still, it was very tender and delicious nonetheless. For dessert, selections of sorbet, gelato, or tiramisu fit the bill. I opted for the tiramisu, which disappeared very quickly. We felt like Italian for lunch and this beautiful wine bar was nearby. The menu is expansive with an array of fantastic options, but perhaps that's a slight downfall in flavor. The presentation or the food was nice, and the food itself was flavorful, but I do feel like there's a few small details that can be improved. The Caprese was tasty, but the mozzarella and tomatoes are cut far too thin to be considered authentic. My Brussels sprout salad came with a risotto cake on top that was perfectly cooked. The salad was good, but I would have enjoyed far less craisins and grana padano cheese rather than Parmesan to give it a bit more flavor. The eggplant Parmesan has a fairly thick breading on it but overall is tasty. If I was in the area, I'd try it again, but I don't think I'd go out of my way. read more

As a fan of Molto, I was extremely disappointed by their other restaurant, Matto. The vegetables in both my salad and pasta didn't appear or taste fresh. I wouldn't be surprised if the pasta veggies were frozen. That's how awful they were! The ambiance is pretty, but I can't say anything positive about my pasta primavera or salad. Matto is one of our favorite places to meet after work, but tonight was a big disappointment... The food was great- as always- and the wine was perfect. But the atmosphere was awful. The hostess seated us at a high top table in the bar, and as we got to the table there was a group of of 6 men right next to the table. We asked the hostess to ask them to move, but she did not. They were kind of loud, and so close that we really could not enjoy our meal. We left without ordering desert... We'll have to think about whether we want to go back. read more

I ordered chicken Marsala instead of veal, which I appreciate them accommodating for me...but the chicken was SO overcooked it was as dry as a bone. Hard to chew. We started with two apps: eggplant stack and fried artichokes. The eggplant was good, but the artichokes were all batter...so fried that you could barely taste any artichoke. Everyone loved the fancy decor (specially the red scooter at the entrance) and the elegant look of the interior. It's done in a very good taste. We started with "Matto" (Limoncello, Bombay Dry Gin, Elderflower Liqueur, Rosemary Simple) for drinks. It was very refreshing and everyone loved it. The bread with olive oil, served at the beginning was warm and fresh. For lunch we ordered Fried meatballs, Shrimp and grits, Roasted salmon and Branzino oreganata. Everything was simply delicious! We talked and we ate and we enjoyed ourselves! We were there for a long time! No one rushed us. We ended the delicious meal with chocolate cake and cappuccino. Came here for a late lunch for Mother's Day. Place was packed and chaotic in the front. The decor and ambiance of this place as well as the service was A+. The food here on the other hand was awful. The fried mozz and bread was good. Fried calamari over cooked or old oil. I ordered the spicy shrimp and the shrimp were good, but let me tell you how much garlic was on the spinach.... And I love garlic. It was soooo much it made the rest of the dish inedible. My mom ordered veal and said it was tough and like pot roast. My fiancé and Dad ordered pizzas and said they tasted like frozen pizza crust. The only person in my party who liked their meal was my fiancés mother who liked her chicken dish. Ordered veal parmesan for dinner and the portion was tiny, clearly a lunch portion (based on my previous lunch experience), but server insisted it was as intended. Server offered no consideration-not even some extra bread (would have demonstrated customer service skill and goodwill at no cost to the restaurant)-when I voiced dissatisfaction with the portion size. Was so hungry after meal decided to order dessert-tried pistachio ricotta cake and almond cake. Small portions again for $10 each but tasted good. Learned they do not make the cake on premises and it is purchased from a distributor. Learned that some pasta is purchased fresh/frozen from a local distributor (noted on menu) otherwise is dry boxed. I had falsely assumed the pasta here was made fresh on premises. Service was poor and restaurant was half empty on a Sunday evening. Had to ask for parmesan and was provided the grated cheese jar-no fresh-grated parm (even Olive Garden does that). Never offered to refill my empty water glass the entire meal; finally helped myself to the jug at the serving station while waiting fifteen minutes for slice of cake. Other than the nifty looking chandelier, nothing stands out in the realm of culinary skill, flavor, quality, or service. I got the impression this business employs family-maybe they should call Gordon Ramsey for help. Suggest patrons spend their hard earned money at a legitimate Italian restaurant or cooking at home and avoid Matto. read more

Every so often you come across an associate that you wish you hired for your own company or perhaps you were; Gia killed it tonight. Confident, hospitable and professional. I was extremely impressed by her demeanor keeping in mind that I am also a woman in the hospitality industry (even though I'm a designer but I work with high end clientele) Dining solo I was people watching and couldn't help but notice her extremely confident energy as she approached every single table (including mine) and advised everyone of the menu details and the specials of the night; i.e. confirming half off wine bottles on Mondays. I was extremely impressed by not only her but by the entire staff and the food. I look forward to visiting again and bringing my entire family with me. Had a great first experience at Matto! The restaurant is very big with various seating options for both large parties and dates. Our server suggested several dishes and was very kind and attentive. We decided to take his suggestion and order chicken parm with vodka sauce and a side of cherry peppers. This did not disappoint!! I very much liked my pesto gnocchi; all the flavors worked well with each other and it was a very savory, rich dish. The linguine carbonara was okay, but the addition of mushrooms imo didn't lend well to the flavors that people come to expect from a traditional carbonara. The dining area is so wide open, you can get a great view of everything and everyone. The menu was quite extensive but we decided to go with several small plates which were actually quite substantial. We started off with fried calamari, eggplant torre and lamb chops. At first I thought we did not order enough but I am glad we stopped there because the portions were huge, we were definitely satisfied by the time we finished. The calamari was lightly breaded and was cooked perfectly, served with marinara sauce. The lamb chops were ok, initially we had to send the first order back because the sear on the chops made them inedible but our server gladly got us a new order which were better.
