Pizzeria Molto was a happy accident that turned into a highlight of our trip. We rolled in as a large, unplanned group looking for a quick lunch spot. What we got instead was a full-blown Italian feast in one of the best lunch settings we've stumbled into. The vibe inside is effortlessly cool, inviting, stylish, and full of energy without feeling loud or rushed. Service? Top notch. Friendly, fast, and completely unfazed by our table of chaos. I've been to this place 3 times. Once, when it first opened, another time was a Saturday Night (with all the pretty people) and most recently for an early dinner with a good friend. Two pastas and a side of bread is what we ordered, and it was very good. Think an upscale CENTRO. The staff was attentive, and the place was very clean and had plenty of tables for a late afternoon/early evening dinner. I remember the pizza being really tasty as well. We came at 7pm on a Friday and even though they were packed we got seated in 10 minutes. The food was amazing, highly recommend the grilled lamb chops- and the Buratta is wonderful. The inside is really cute, but they are packed so it was tight to even get around the hostess stand to use a bathroom. I made a reservation for three over two weeks ago. Arrived 10 min prior to our scheduled reservation and we were seated in the very back of the restaurant by the kitchen door even though there were several booths available that we passed along the way. When I asked why we were being seated back there I was told they had many reservations with larger groups. As we were leaving several of the booths had only two guest. Meanwhile three of us sat cramped and in an undesirable ambiance. This was my family's first time going to Molto while I had been there several times before. But let me tell you -- the chicken on the bone special I had and the vegetable sides is now one of my top restaurant meals of the year. I rarely leave reviews, but I left this restaurant extremely upset due to the way our reservation was handled. We made a reservation a week in advance for 14 people at 8:15 PM. When we arrived, there was no one to greet us, and we had to actively search for a host. A line began forming behind us as others were also waiting. Eventually, we found the manager, who informed us they were about 15-20 minutes behind. We were understanding and said we'd wait at the bar. After 45 minutes, we checked in again, as the time we were quoted had already passed. The manager said he was still waiting for a table that had paid their bill to leave. We were finally seated at 9:15 PM and didn't receive our food until 10:00 PM. At this point we ate our food, each got one drink and were done. When we normally would have hung out and ordered more but at this point we did not want to give any more money to this place. Not once did anyone--especially the manager--apologize for the delay or thank us for our patience. At the end of the night, I approached the manager to express how disappointing it was that he never came over to acknowledge the long wait or our understanding attitude. His response was incredibly defensive and he could not care less that customers were upset. He stated that we weren't the only ones who waited over an hour, and that they "can't control how many reservations they book." He never once took accountability for the overbooking or apologized and simply did not care that a table of 14 people were unsatisfied and will never be back. Instead, he continued to defend the situation by saying they're a great team, they've been in business for 15 years, and that they're a small establishment. We were very understanding of all of that--as we also have experience in the restaurant industry and know you should do anything you possibly can to make customers satisfied with their experience--and were simply looking for a basic apology or acknowledgment, which we never received and had to be the bigger person and walk away as no solution was in sight due to the manager going back and forth with us rather than finding a speedy resolution for unhappy customers. To be clear, our server and the food were both great. But the way the manager handled what was a respectful conversation was incredibly unprofessional. This honestly ruined our night--especially considering we had friends who traveled over an hour to meet us to celebrate a birthday. I feel this review is necessary, not out of spite, but because of how poorly the situation was handled. A simple apology goes a long way and now you have an entire group of customers who will never be back and will recommend others to do the same. read more

Before we paid and departed, before we were halfway through our "entress" I apprised my dining companion that I was planning on stiffing the waitstaff as I never tip generously when planning on never returning to a joint. But forgive me, I am getting ahead of myself. There was a time long ago when Teradactyls and Do Do Birds roamed the Earth, and when a certain orange haired, Crox-wearing, ponytailed empressario had, in addition to big hands, a show on Food Network called Molto Mario. Alas, Food Network is no more, and "Molto Mario" degenerated into a vortex of lawsuits and allegations, forced sales and divestitures, and a long slow deline into the ignomy of disgrace. But prior to that, a trendy little joint in Fairfield following a time-honored formula, simply stole (misapporpriated, to be kind) what was trendy in one place and installed it in another. Early on it was apparant that Molto was both popular (as was evidenced by lines out the door) as well as trendy, as evidenced by the young and attractive customers visible through the large front windows and, in temperate weather, seated on the front sidewalk itself. Fast forward fifteen years. Molto Mario has receded into distant memory, but Molto Pizzaria in Fairfield still goes strong, with caveats: The food sucks. The crowds are still there, many of whom probably came as children in the twenty-teens, or perhaps as young adults. The crowd is a little less young, and a little less hip, a transformation only completed the moment my tragically unhip girlfriend and I darkened their doorway, crossing over the threshold. The first issue was the reservation, although they had told her over the phone that they overbook and not to expect the res time to be honored, and it wasn't. Then came the food. She ordered a salad that appearad as an enourmous pile of green chopped mush mounded up on a plate, as unappetizing looking as could possibly be. So much so that I didn't even try a taste. She said it was pretty bad. Then came her ravioli in a red sauce, which contained off-putting weird flavors along with, or instead of the expected ones. My sausage pizza arrived, not crispy as requested but floppy and undercooked, a situation only ememdied the following day by scorching it at five hundred degrees for fifteen minutes on a pan, which machinations made the pizza at least edible. Her Tiramisu sucked, and she would feel I was remiss not to mention that the Fellini movie playing large against the back wall contained a simulated rape scene including forced kissing and other weird stuff which I found amusing, my GF found abhorrent, and which turned on the blonde standing behind us to a surprising and disturbing degree. This was interesting and ironic considering that the imagery mirrored well the misdeeds of the original "Molto" guy, the Crox wearing one, presaging his downfall and perhaps theirs, especially if they continue hiring nice bartenders who have utterly no idea what they are doing, but who are charming as they are not doing it. So in short, Molto is still there although you'd be crazy to go there. Especially when there are real and far better options nearby. read more

Arrived with a party on a Saturday night. Was told it would be 45 minute wait, after 90 minutes and being ignored. We were told there was a back up and there was still three party's ahead of us. I'm pretty sure one of the tables seated before us came in after our party arrived. Also there was no apology for the wait or we appreciate your patience. I got takeout the other week--just a basic margarita pizza-- and it wasn't great.. on the burnt side... with a hair in it. The hostess who greeted me and gave me my order was great and extremely friendly. But as I was waiting a few minutes for my order to be out, I immediately spotted what seemed to be a toxic work environment-- even in just those two minutes I stood off to the side. The smiley hostess on shift was verbally berated on her appearance (which was very professional might I add) by what appeared to be a male coworker or superior. My order was out soon after her coworker walked away, and was handed to me by the hostess who offered me another smile. After going home and digging into my mediocre pizza, I looked more into Molto. Disappointedly, I read on the CT Post that back in March, Molto had fifteen health code violations-- which I will spare other reviewers/customers. All in all, it is safe to say, I will not be coming back to Molto. It's a shame, as I would consider myself a semi-regular customer who have recommended this restaurant to friends and family in the past. I hope that what I witnessed with the young female hostess and (what I presume is) her superior, is not an every day occurrence for that poor girl. As a father of two young girls, I would never want one of my daughters to be working in such an environment. read more

Pizzeria Molto was such a great find.  There are so many offerings on the menu that sound so good.  The tapas we tried and really enjoyed were, the brussels sprouts (our favorite dish), the potato gnocchi, the short rib risotto, and the fig bruschetta.  All were really delicious.  We also really liked both pizzas we ordered with maybe a light edge going to the balsamico though the arugula di parma was also wonderful.  We got the hot oil on the side and it was nice and spicy.  For dessert, we had the tiramisu which we also enjoyed.  The restaurant itself is really hopping and very noisy so we opted for take-out.  We definitely look forward to exploring more of the menu next visit. read more

I made a reservation for my husband's birthday and we still weren't seated for over 40 minutes. I had to ask the hostess twice for an update. The dinner service itself was fine, and they did bring out a dessert with a candle as I requested. However, when the check arrived I noticed we were charged $1 for the candle. I've never been to a restaurant that charges for a tiny birthday candle, especially after such a long wait. Given the circumstances, I would have expected the restaurant to offer a small accommodation. The food was good, but unfortunately I won't be returning as it's clear management isn't prioritizing customer experience. read more

We made a reservation a week in advance. Upon showing up to the reservation several minutes early were informed the restaurant over booked to go wait outside. No time frame was provided. After waiting 20 minutes- 15 minutes after the reservation time, we went inside to ask for a manager. To be told rudely by the manager they always overbook and we should expect to wait. Quickly a server stated there was a table they could seat us. The disgusting response from the manager made us leave. This is the second time I enjoyed a great meal at Molto. There are several free and easy parking choices in front, on the side and in back of the restaurant. Comfortable Indoor and outdoor dining is available. Service is excellent; we were greeted by a smiling hostess and taken to an indoor booth as requested. A very pleasant and attentive waitress took our order and interacted with us while still giving us lefty of time to talk in depth. The ample menu offers so many delicious choices, including vegetarian dishes, fresh fish, meat, pizza & pasta. You can order small or large servings of food. I have tried their creative artesian salads and they have been fresh, healthy and very tasty with attractive presentations. My dinning partners have ordered the pizza, lamb dishes and pasta dishes and enjoyed them very much. Yesterday, my friend's eyes opened wide as he smiled after seeing his Beet salad and Bianca pizza delivered to our table. There were sounds of pleasure as he tasted each dish. I was delighted with my Campagna salad, but I also shared in the pizza and found it delicious! I highly recommend dining with Molto! I just realized that there is a Pizzeria Molto in Darien as well! I had one of the worst dining experiences tonight at Pizzeria Molto in Fairfield, CT. My party and I were seated and enjoying each other's company when we were abruptly asked to leave because, according to the staff, they needed our table for a reservation of five. Strangely, there were several other tables in the restaurant at the same point in their meals as we were, and we couldn't help but notice we were the only Black customers there. The manager was the one who asked us to leave. I have never felt so uncomfortable or deeply disrespected. It felt as though we were singled out, and their explanation simply didn't make sense. This level of treatment is completely unacceptable, and I wouldn't recommend this restaurant to anyone who values fairness and respect. There are plenty of other establishments that treat all customers with dignity--this isn't one of them. read more

Celebrated my sister in law's birthday Saturday night. She reserved a table for 12, but luckily only 8 showed up. There was no way we would have gotten 12 people around that table comfortably. The restaurant was packed and very loud. Service was great. Our waiter was very attentive and made sure drinks were always filled. I had the salmon and absolutely loved it. It came with a little bit of roasted potatoes and asparagus. Just enough to fill you, but not stuff you. My husband ordered the filet, which he did not really care for. He said the meat tasted weird. The people that ordered salad were not very happy with them. Glad I didn't go with my first thought which was the salmon salad. Didn't look good at all. Prices are pretty high for the amount of food you get, but I did enjoy it. We've gone for appetizers and pizza in the past and we did like that. Ordered a garden salad and margarita pizza. We asked for only sliced mozzarella on the pizza because last time they just put shredded cheese on it. It took 40 min to get the pizza I asked what was taking so long and they said they're cooking 5 pizzas. Fifteen minutes later I asked a goin where's the pizza.
