Very disappointed, no back orders out on shop floor. Everything is in a back warehouse and you must ask for everything that you want. Only new comics are available to public to dig through. Kind of defeats the purpose of a comic book shop. If you want to hunt through bins to find keys, this is not the place to go. read more

I am not a big guy with technology and don't think I've ever left a review in my life. But, after reading a couple negative comments, I had to put my two cents in. I've been coming to Matts for 20+ years now. My kids now go to Matts with me. He has been nothing but kind to my kids, myself, and my wife. Matt is one of the nicest most helpful gentleman in the Card world. This hobby is built on trust and I would put my full trust into him with my money and my collection. He is knowledgeable and his prices are as good or better than any other shop around. If it's something worth collecting, you will find it at this store. I really hope people read this review. I have visited Matt's frequently over the past month and a half, primarily to pick up boxes and other collector's supplies to store loose baseball cards that I had purchased at auction. In terms of stock, they have EVERYTHING from Sports cards, TCG cards, Comic books both present day and vintage, they also have a ton of Anime and Manga stacked high from floor to ceiling around the entire store, not to mention have wall after wall of Funko Pops in the back of the store, In a nutshell, they have a little bit of everything for everyone at reasonable prices. In regards to the staff, Matt and his staff are extremely friendly and super helpful and are extremely knowledgeable and are more than willing to help you if you need anything. Although I have stores that are closer to my home in Wethersfield, it is worth taking the trip to Enfield to find the things I need that I know are definitely in stock at Matt's. Also, I visited Matt's yesterday morning with my little sister. When I arrived, there was a sign on the door stating that Matt is not purchasing anything at this time without an appointment. This store is a collector's dream! They have everything from comics and sports cards to Manga and Japanese snacks. Lots of Funko Pops, anime figures, action figures, Japanese capsule toys, random video games, and much more. The owner is the nicest guy, I think some customers have him confused with someone else. From my personal experience the owner is not the friendliest if he doesn't know you or if your not buying expensive collector cards. I go in about once a week as both my kids and my wife collect funko pops and other stuff, I spend on average about $75-$100 on average I am a member of the rewards program. I literally live across the st. And yet they always act like they don't know me. The owners wife is super friendly and polite, they have another young lady who is super friendly and very nice to my two kids. I do not like that nothing is priced and everything is scanned to maximize profit. And to be honest he is a small busbusiness owner so I get it. His target audience isn't the people buying a few funko pops and some Manga. It's the big spenders buying collector cards. I will continue to go here because I very much enjoy supporting small business and shopping locally. read more

The owner of this store is an absolute moron. He employs people that don't know anything about the products he sells, and gets easily frustrated when asked multiple questions. Everything is covered in dust and horribly maintained. The statues he sells are unbelievably overpriced, with him not even hesitating to tell you to "go shop somewhere else if you don't like the price" upon showing that the item he was trying to sell was $20 less than he wanted, he yelled at us to go somewhere else. I've never been treated like such garbage by a business owner, and absolutely nobody should give this man their money. read more

Many years ago, I left a pretty scathing review of Matt's, because of an employee who blatantly sexist and made me feel unwelcome, making it seem like I was just there as support for my guy friend instead of being there as a comic book geek on my own merit. My best friend finally convinced me to give it another shot, and I've been back several times since then in more recent years, when visiting home. Thankfully, I've never seen that employee again. The store itself has turned around considerably - in a new location, with stock more readily visible and accessible. There are two floors now, the first floor with all the books and cards and some collectibles, and the basement with the figures and statues. Prices are still only marked for some items - Matt does a lot of checking on ebay for older collectibles, but he always prices very fairly, and I've found some items for my collections that would have cost me a lot more elsewhere and aren't easy to find anymore. It's past time I changed my review after my bad experience, because this has become one of my favorite collectibles shops to visit anytime I'm in the area. Walking in it looks like you're in for a fun shop. Unfortunately, heading to the new comic wall you'll see every book needs to be bent to get in their holders. What a terrible system, every issue immediately bent up? I would've got a handful of books, but don't want them bent to bits just to get them out/in. There are signs calling customers a contamination, so we aren't allowed to look at back issues. Apparently we are to email the store prior, and expect them to look for what we send for a list. Why would anyone do that? I'll just go to a shop I can look through them. They also look things up at the register to price, which is ridiculous. Sign near trades (which they have a lot of) that they are cover price or more depending if they look them up and it's more.Worst comic shop I've ever been to for all their poor practices. Head down the road, a fantastic comic shop is nearby. read more

When you walk into Matt's, your senses scream from the sheer amount of product the store carries. As your eyes adjust you begin to spot several sought after collectibles and long out of print publications that no longer reside in other stores. You reach for these and stack them in your arms. Piling on as many as you can manage. You have hit pay dirt. When you shuffle to the register you are met by an employee who begins the long process of... searching on eBay to find a comparable price. Sadly you return everything to its original place and come to the realization that the reason for all of this sweet, sweet merchandise being readily available is due to the poor business practice of pricing as the internet market deems fit. I have never come across a small comic store with such vast inventory that made me stare in awe while completely angry at their pricing practices. If I wanted to pay eBay prices, I'll just go to eBay. read more

He goes straight off eBay prices... like wtf?! Like he does know that new things come out like every month?? How is he still open is beyond me. Might as well strictly be on eBay. Review #800 is going to be about baseball cards, so bear with me. The first set of baseball cards I remember is the 1988 Topps set. Now, these bad boys aren't really worth much today (well, most of the late-80s/early-90s baseball cards aren't worth much due to their mass production, save for the summer of 1998, when $10 boxes of 1990 Fleer could yield you hundreds of Rick Aguilera cards, and those few Sammy Sosa rookies that went for a few bucks a pop), but they do have sentimental value. The card collecting continued into the late-90s, and I'll pick up a pack from time to time. I have a Pedro Martinez collection somewhere in my boxes of archived stuff, as well as some autographs, pieces of people's jerseys, oversized cards, undersized cards, and metal cards. Oh, and football, basketball, and hockey cards too. Why does this matter? At least initially much of this stuff (especially in the mid to late 90s) I got at Matt's. Matt's has a plethora of stuff: a giant Spider-Man greets you, followed by most everything you'd want to collect. Baseball cards? Check Football cards? Check Magic? Definite check, as they have Magic nights here. Miller Lite bottles from the 1970s signed by New York Yankees like Elston Howard? Super check (I think it was Elston Howard... regardless despite my hatred for the pinstripes I would buy one of these) Bobbleheads? Check Comics? Check Action figures? Check. And all of this is in a little space across the street from the Community College and the Five Guys (where it's been for years!) Overall, Matt's is the place to go for most everything hobby in Western Mass. It was one of the coolest places to go in my childhood, and it's quite awesome now as well. read more

No wonder the industry is dying. My experience with this store has lead me to doing a longer editorial piece on the state of the comics industry mid/post pandemic and the critical role stores play as primary point of contact for the waning customer base. I've been a lifelong collector, and I've had a pull list at one brick-and-mortar LCS for over 20 years. My experience with this single store is looking like the nail in the coffin of the dying days of my collecting. Like many collectors, I was displaced and out of work during the pandemic. Needing a new shop to start a pull list with, I started investigating shops in the Hartford/Enfield/Manchester/Windsor area. I settled on Matt's. What a mistake. Part of the hobby for me is digging through long boxes, quarter bins, and the cream owners often hide in short boxes in the back of the store. I spend as much money or more on back issues. Increasingly so as I have gotten older. My taste are informed by nostalgia, and in adulthood, I simply had more disposable income than I did as a young collector. Finding a shop that had a sizable back issue section was critical. Matt's fit that bill. The store lacks nothing in stock. What it lacks is a basic understanding of retail sales practices, and clear indifference/disinterest to the needs of customers. Well, new customers at least. Based on my understanding of financial trends in the comic book industry, new customers are important to the long-term sustainability of a shop. For three months I endured this, hoping each time they might, remember my name. Notice that when a series I was pulling came to an end they might suggest another. When I clearly circled the piles of back issues laying in piles around the shop, bothering to ask me a single question about my interest, and how they might have something to sell me. As I would wind through the "surprise pricing" nooks of hardbacks, graphic novels, and omnibuses I would feel a gaze occasionally, but no engagement. It felt more like a security check for potential shrinkage. Even in this environment their profound lack of f&*ks given to my needs as a customer was inexcusable, and perhaps, the final time I walk through the doors of a shop. read more

If you are interested in hardcover and prestige edition books, this store is definitely worth a stop. I have never seen a store with as comprehensive a collection of omnibuses, deluxe editions, prestige hardcover formats, and graphic novels as this place. There is one caveat, though: the owner sells OOP books at market value, so you will have to ask for books to be priced if he can't easily replace them. My sense of the owner (did not meet him; this is pure inference) is that he's more interested in being a collector than he is in selling his books. He wants to be able to replace anything that he sells, so if it's a whale that he has found (and the place is filled to the brim with whales), then he will sell the item at a whalish price. I didn't get anything on my visit, but I really admired the collection. If you go in knowing this, then you won't be disappointed. If you're willing to pay market prices, then at least you know you're getting a book in pristine condition (not something you can depend on with eBay or Amazon). Matt's Comics and Cards is like a old school shop. Besides the owner Matt selling collectables he is involved in several charities. He will not mention this. Amazing person in so many ways. Will always find the time to help with any questions you may have. As the brother of someone who draws Comic books for a living, Have been to many shops. Matt's is above and beyond any shop I have ever visited. Matt is honest, Has a great Inventory, and Has a fun store to boot. I encourage anyone to drive a little if you have to. It's worth it! Watch out: once you're in, you'll never want to leave. If you're a fan of comics, sci-fi, sports memorabilia, manga, card games, Disney, etc, you will find everything you want here. But the best thing there is actually the owner. He knows everything about everything he sells, and if he doesn't know something he'll soon find it out for you. Not to mention that he is really cute and friendly, which makes this shop worth visiting even if it is just to have a chat with Matt. There's a lot of kid-friendly stuff too, so you can bring in the little ones too. Now there are also used games and DVDs, and he takes trade-ins. Overall a great place. I was so excited to buy my son-in-law a gift card for his birthday to Matt's. He went yesterday to redeem it (plus I knew he would more than double it in additional purchases). When he came out of the store aggravated and angry I was so disappointed in my choice of gifts. He bought nothing and was so disgusted with the pricing policy (if indeed that was what you want to call it) that he left with gift card still in hand. A high price plus eBay shipping costs added to each item. If he wanted to pay shipping, he wouldn't have traveled over an hour to do his own shopping. Matt's lost a very good new customer. read more

Matt's is a tiny store that really has it all...comic back issues, graphic novels/TPBs, weekly comics, action figures, sports cards/memorabilia. He has been in business for a long time, and I am glad he has been. Matt himself is a nice laid-back guy. He and his staff are always helpful. He has one guy there (I forget his name) who is the comic book guru and knows everything there is to know about comics. I highly recommend going to Matt's for all your comic book needs. read more
