I have been to Maui Hawaii Barbeque quite a few times, and I usually order the chicken katsu or sometimes the chicken combo when I am really in the mood for chicken. The katsu is my go-to for takeout. When it is done right, it comes out crispy, flavorful, and satisfying, but there have been times when it did not come out as expected, either not crispy enough or feeling undercooked. My last two visits were a bit disappointing, as the chicken texture was off, which made the meal less enjoyable. That said, I know that consistency can be an issue in smaller restaurants. The wait time can also be long, but that is expected since this is not a fast-food place. If you are in a rush, calling ahead for a takeout order is a good idea. I have met the owner a couple of times, and he is chill. The service is generally decent, though nothing that particularly stands out. I usually take my food to go, but I have dined in once, as seen in the photos. Wow, i was looking for a restaurant (with rice) that was close by and I came across this gem. The interior is just like any other haiwaiian BBQ place. The pricing is fair with special discounts on musubi and drinks. (Musubi and some drinks are buy one get one free Monday - Thursday) I ordered the BBQ Pineapple Chicken and it came with a huge chunk of meat, white trice, and macaroni salad. Been going here for many many years. They have an Ono down the street that opened up and I go there too. Pricing is comparable. The quality of Ono is a little better. The portions are definitely bigger here, and they run a nice weekday special. So, it just depends on what's more important to you. If I'm extra hungry I choose here, and often times I can't finish it in one sitting. Oh, and they usually honor a military discount- usually a dollar off or a free soda, though sometimes I've been told no. Ono has no discount for the troops/vets. read more

This was a spur-of-the-moment stop to get some quick grub before an evening at Glen Ivy. Didn't bother to check reviews (which I normally do beforehand) since we really just wanted to get a cheap bite to eat. I've seen Maui Hawaii Barbeque many times before, as it sits near my bank. My friend ordered a Teriyaki Chicken Bowl before me and it came out within about 5 minutes. For whatever reason, my Fish Sandwich took a good while to come out. I must have gone up to the counter at least twice and it still wasn't ready. There was one other party seated and already halfway done with their meal, so I was baffled at how long it was taking. There was only one cook from what I could see, and he seemed to be taking his time. The petite lady who ran the register was nice. When my sandwich was finally ready, she brought it out to me on a tray, along with my smoothie. The sandwich itself was pretty damn good if I must say so myself! The fish was nice and hot, and it was a very good size. The smoothie was not the best I've had, as it really just tasted like a bunch of frozen pineapple chunks were blended together with ice and poured into a cup of boba. Bland and blah, but I was not expecting it to taste great coming from a place that specializes in Hawaiian fast food. Ended up ordering another Fish Sandwich for a friend who was running late, and came to join us. Funny that her sandwich came to us in about 5 minutes, compared to my wait of about 15 or so. She had no complaints either. Overall it's a solid 3.5 stars for me. Good customer service, and easily accessible near the 15 freeway with an open parking lot. If I had to come again, I would, but I'd hope the cook steps up his game. Maybe he was in chill mode since it was a Sunday afternoon, but we were in a little bit of a time crunch. Other than that, the food is good but some of the prices are high imo. $6.39 for an order of 2 Spam Musubi??? You can buy a can for around $5 or less and have at least 8! This is the first time I eat at this restaurant. When we arrived we noticed only 1 customer in the restaurant, he looked frustrated... as if waiting too long or needing to leave. We placed our orders, the girl in the front could be nicer. We waited 40 minutes for our food to be served (at 15 minutes waiting, I noticed the 1 customer had finally got his food) and we were the only customers in the restaurant. We will never eat here again. The staff a quite nice. But the food is terrible and bland. The gravy for their loco moco is white gravy that is super bland. Most of their meals include Hawaiian macaroni salad, which I love, but this place misses the mark by far and the Mac salad has zero flavor. I understand this place is a chain so the recipes are not unique to this location, but geez! No wonder this place was empty and Ono around the corner was packed. My husband asked the cashier for this store's owner's information. She stated she didn't know who her employer's owner was and that she "didn't want to get into that". I think this place is an ok. They are very generous with the bbq beef which was delicious and macaroni salad that came with the meal was just right. I believe this dish was $12.99. My hub loves the short ribs here. I don't know how much. For sure it was more than $12.99. The masubi (spam, rice, teriyaki sauce and nori) was nice. It is $6.95 for 2 pieces and it is buy one get one free. The drinks like fountain drinks and Thai tea, boba milk tea and tea lemonade are also buy one get one free. The drinks are ok but boba texture is horrible. The center of the tapioca balls were hard. My son ordered deep fried shrimp and I really don't know. They were a "meh" according to my son. Not going to order it again. Also ordered crab Rangoon and it came out cold so they remake it but actually ended up throwing them away. Cracked it the Rangoon open and didn't think it was good. Love this local place the half n half is the way to go! The food is always fresh and never more then a 15minute wait they always cook fresh, macaroni is amazing. Staff is always sweeping floors and cleaning in between customers so unless you've actually been a customer don't understand the bad review's ridiculous really. The owners seem like nice humble people and they accommodate there customers as I have seen. I have been a customers for almost 7years now. He hires local kids who have always been kind and polite. My whole family got sick from the food here. We contacted the manager who said she would give us 2 free meals next time we stop by. A few weeks later we stopped to get our free meals, and the cashier lied saying we already received the meals. We asked to speak to the manager and he said she's too busy. Way better than the big chain "Ono Hawaiian Barbeque". Although some of the cashiers seem a bit monotone, you have to understand, some people have different issues.
