So I have been seeing Dr. Ammerman for over 5 years now. She has never once dismissed a single concern I brought to her. She has always taken her time with me, followed through on whatever she said she would do and I never feel rushed. That alone I feel is worth 10 out of 5 stars, but there are more reasons. I have very complex care needs, including early menopause, HRT, vulvodynia, lichen, and several other chronic health conditions. She has worked so hard to get me as comfortable and the conditions as managed as possible. I am only 38 years old, so these conditions have major impacts on my quality of life, and her care is an indispensable part of my treatment. She also takes great care to ensure adequate pain management happens for procedures. I never realized that this level of care and attention to my pain was even to be expected in these situations, but I now know and won't settle for anything less. Now, a shout-out to the front desk staff. They all know my name, say hello, and get back to me if I leave a message. They all work very hard. I know we have to leave messages, and sometimes wait a day or 2, but they are one of the few offices that actually call me back. I am confident when I leave a message there. Kyleen specifically has been so amazing and is working with me on a special treatment: Emsella. This treatment is approved to help manage incontinence and improve sexual wellness. Well, we tried it to see if it would help with the nerve pain/vulvodynia, and it has! Like I can sit in a regular chair now, and I am beyond grateful. There are other aspects, but hey, that's my business. Lol. I am being VERY transparent with my health because I think it paints a picture of the type of care, empathy, and dedication Dr. Ammerman and her whole team provide. Menopause...not always the easiest thing to go through and often Drs don't understand the symptoms and medicines available. Not Brooke Radimae, she was fantastic. Totally empathetic, fun to talk to, full of recent research ideas, and happy to tailor meds to the individual. She was a breath of fresh air in my menopause treatment, fully supportive of HRT. I had to argue and refuse to leave the room before I was initially prescribed HRT during the pandemic! Brooke was fully supportive, added to my meds to make things easier, and happy to try things out to see if they worked. I not only felt accepted and valued, Brooke listened to me and believed in me. It was an amazing feeling as a post menopausal woman, after years of being told I don't know my own body! I was obviously blown away by the support show in this gynaecologist's office, women supporting women, and I will continue to visit. Easy to find on gps, free parking right outside the door. Do I recommend this gyae, 100%. Brooke was like a best friend who understood you and could prescribe what you needed. read more

This place is AWESOME! Dr. Stacy Ammerman is the first doctor I have seen that actually LISTEN AND HEARD me as a woman and my symptoms. She and I have come up with a great treatment that works with MY BODY to help me with my new change of life transition. AND....her team of RNs and front office Team...OUTSTANDING! The RNs are very compassionate and helpful in any questions in my pre-exam. Also they are the biggest fan when I have lost my unwanted pounds. The OFFICE team also have been there for me too. Dealing with the VA is not the easiest and they have advocated to their best to get my services that I need. Let me share my experience with Dr. Stacey Ammerman. It was early in the discovery of my pregnancy that I went to seek obstetrical care. I was excited to begin my journey into motherhood. I felt wonderful with no issues prior to my visit with her. At my initial appointment she abruptly entered the exam room with no courtesy knock. Without explaining she performed a vaginal and abdominal ultrasound. At the end of the procedure, she printed the image and threw it in the trash. Immediately after, I started to spot. She also ordered lab work, which I completed the same day. I felt rushed. I was in despair when she left the room, leaving me with my questions unanswered and ignored. The following morning, I was bleeding and cramping throughout the entire day. At my next "rushed" appointmen, she performed a vaginal swab. It was determined that I was having an active miscarriage. Nothing from that vaginal swab was saved for testing or further evaluation but rather thrown in the trash. I felt her attitude and care was not genuine. She failed to review the results of my lab work. I had to ask! She gave no informational detail about what was going on with me. Furthermore, she did not fully address all my questions or concerns. During my last visit she was very condescending and would rudely interject while I would be asking questions. At the end of the appointment, I was prescribed medications without knowing what pharmacy she would send it to. She didn't even ask! Not only was I extremely sad from my sudden loss but her actions left me feeling undignified. Especially as a healthcare professional. She showed no expression of sympathy. There are three positive things I can share about Maui Lani Physicians and Surgeons. #1) Kyleen W., the front desk receptionist was extraordinarily helpful, patient and kind. #2) Kyleen promptly returned my calls and fit me in to the schedule. #3) Aesthetically, the clinic is modern and clean. On their website, Dr. Ammerman claims herself to be a "strong advocate for women and enjoys empowering them through knowledge about their bodies and their health." She failed me on all those claims. her approach to my unique situation is unethical and her demeanor was "matter of fact". Dr. Stacey Ammerman is insensitive and lacks professionalism, compassion and consideration. Her treatment was very passive aggressive and ignominious. Certainly not the "Boutique" experience that attracted me to choose Maui Lani Physicians and Surgeons. read more

Never have I experienced a lower standard of care than at this practice. I came to Maui Lani with high expectations, but left with only frustration and extremely poor medical care. During my prenatal appointments, which I always arrived to early, I often sat in their exam rooms after being admitted for over 40 minutes. Additionally, they NEVER bothered to call me with the results of any medical tests I took, even the important ones. For example, I was told a week before my induction date that I had to have an emergency ultrasound due to concern regarding the baby's size. Not only did they not inform the technician performing the test about the purpose of the ultrasound, but they also didn't bother calling me with the results! Just like with the results of my gestational diabetes follow up test, I again had to call the office to get these critical results. This practice also ruined my first birthing experience. I was told that I'd see one of the many doctors I had had appointments with during my pregnancy who was on call that day, but ended up getting assigned a visiting physician with their practice. This physician had ZERO bedside manner. She barely acknowledged me upon meeting and was unapologetically rude to the nursing staff in front of me. While I understand that doctors typically won't be in attendance during the entirety of labor, this doctor WAS ABSENT for the majority of the time that I was in labor and was LITERALLY TEXTING, paying zero attention to me while I was in active labor. In fact, one of the nurses mentioned to me that she'd decided to step out to pick her husband up at the airport. What's worse- when I called the office to complain following my delivery, I was provided no apology. They didn't even care to ask what my concerns were or how they could improve. Your pregnancy and your birthing experience is one of the most important times of your life. Don't waste it on a practice that shows complete disregard for both. read more

It's been awhile since this happened but I felt like I needed to share my experience. I arrive at the office and was taken back to a room after a relatively short wait. They had me put on the paper gown and said the doctor would arrive soon. After waiting 45 minutes I had to use the bathroom. So I put my clothes back on and went out to the desk area. There were no other patients at all, only the staff (doctors included) chatting it up very casually gathered in the front. When I walked up and said Excuse me, the shock on all their faces made it very clear that they hadn't realized I was there. I used the bathroom and came out to the staff acting very busy and actively not looking at me. I realized that closing time was in less than 15 minutes, so I said that I'd really appreciate being seen before they close and went back to the exam room. A minute later the doctor came in apologizing for the delay BECAUSE THEY WERE SO BUSY. Utter bs. I saw her relaxing at the front desk. If she'd been honest and just said OMG we screwed up, I would have forgiven them as stuff happens. But to act like nothing had happened?!? The exam was super rushed, seriously less than 5 minutes. When leaving NOT ONE staff apologized. I left just 2 minutes after their closing time. read more

If I could give this OBGYN office 0 stars, I absolutely would. I have endometriosis and a Intercystial Cystitis. They had put me on a waitlist to talk to a surgeon at the drs office to go over a laparoscopic surgery, the first time I was waiting for an appointment I was on call, waiting all day just to never even get an appointment. Then I actually ended up getting an appointment with the surgeon to discuss my options, and I waited over an hour to see the Dr. and I had other prior work obligations I needed to be at work by at certain time. I was upset & frustrated and had to go leave to go to work, as I'm a nanny, the families rely on me. I ended up leaving the appointment. This office manager Gaslit me to make me like I was the problem, when they treated me like my issues didn't matter and like I was another number. As if when you have endometriosis/ IC you don't suffer enough. They refused to ever see me again for leaving the appointment cause I had to go babysit, and even had the audacity to send me a letter in the mail to tell me I got expelled from the office and could never go back. Talk about medical gaslighting. This office is overbooked & overwhelmed and has no bedside manners. Shame on you Maui Lani, have some heart & more compassion for your patients, and don't make them suffer more then they're already suffering when they're just trying to find answers. I hate this place. And the other sad thing is there's hardly any OBGYN offices out in Maui. They are evil im this office. Enough said. read more

It was my first pregnancy, so I had no idea what to expect. I felt very rushed through appointments and birth. At my very last appointment I was told that I had one hour to get myself to the hospital because they were going to induce me due to high blood pressure (that was normal in the morning and high during my apt, likely due to white coat syndrome that I had throughout my pregnancy). I denied a cervical check, but Dr. Takemoto insisted. She then did a membrane sweep without my consent. I later found out that this is what she did and that conveniently she was also on call at the hospital for the next few days. Once I got to the hospital, they requested one intervention after another-- to me, this meant my baby and body were not ready. Everything felt rushed and like it was being done to fit someone else's timeline. Keep in mind-- if they would have taken even a little time to explain things to me, I might feel differently, like these interventions were necessary, but nothing was explained. I feel extremely lucky to have a beautiful healthy baby come out of this, but also wanted to do my due diligence and warn others moving forward--Maui Lani Physicians and Surgeons perform non-consensual membrane sweeps during cervical checks, and make sure to do your own research, because they will not explain their decisions to you. read more

My experience here has been positive. I am nearing the end of my third trimester and the staff have been very supportive since the beginning. The women here are real, answering all of my questions with honesty, and I feel like they genuinely care about me as a person and patient. Sometimes they don't know the answer to my questions. Again I appreciate their honesty and expressing their concern whenever something odd has come up. Recently I have had the majority of my appointments with nurse practitioner Nicole Brashear. She is great. My favorite doctors who I've seen here are Dr Takemoto and Dr Ammerman. I had a concern about getting the dTap vaccination due to having experienced adverse reactions to it during my previous pregnancy. The nurse as well as the doctor asked me many clear questions. I stopped filling out the consent form mid way through. They didn't push me to make a decision on the spot, and instead suggested I think it over and let them know on my next visit whether I decided to get it this time around. I appreciated them taking the time to bring awareness to other allergies I have which it turns out may have been the reason for my past adverse reaction. Ultimately I decided to request the vaccination two visits later. I had nearly forgotten to ask and was already on my way out to the car. The staff was so accommodating and rushed to get things prepped and take me back into a room. Again the nurse was extremely helpful, this time by informing me of some tricks she has heard of to possibly help lessen a painful reaction at the injection site. This office provides a clean, considerate, and welcoming environment for women. read more

I have been a patient of Maui Lani Physicians and Surgeons for about 6 yrs now (2013). I have received kind, compassionate and professional care at every single visit (and there have been many!). In those 6 yrs, I have dealt with multiple individuals from all levels of their staff from receptionist, nurse, and Doctors. I have never once had a negative interaction or been treated unprofessionally. As a medical professional myself, I would like to commend Dr Ammerman and Dr Takamoto for offering such a wonderful environment for women to seek care here on Maui. They go above and beyond at their practice in serving our community. As a patient, I have to mention how much I appreciate their staff. The lovely ladies behind the desks answering calls, scheduling appointments, and giving information are wonderful and make you feel welcome and at ease. I had to wait 1 hour+ to see a doctor at weekly prenatal visits, & unfortunately had the worst first time birthing experience which lead to an unplanned c section. I had a miscarriage and Dr. Takemoto was horrible. So unkind and unprofessional. I had to have 3 DNC procedures before the fetus passed and was less than two months in development... worst nightmare of my life... Takemoto came into the check up room at one visit looking high as a kite and even forget the metal expander she would be using on me but this was after she put her gloves on and was in between my legs feeling me then said oh wait and had to go out of the room she had her gloves on and told me she forgot it then used it on me. so unprofessional. After that the other nurses used disposable plastic expanders every time. I don't understand how people like her get into this field.... please be aware and stay away from dr. Takemoto Ammerman was fine but very intimidating she forced me into having a ultrasound or finding another facility (which is what I should have done) at 5weeks when I wanted to wait a little longer, then I bled that night and I had a miscarriage and was switched to dr. Takemoto, I had the dnc the day after I found out I miscarried and wasn't given any time to let it pass naturally either. read more

I was referred to Maui Lani by my primary care physician. My first visit (full exam, pap, etc.) last year was okay, but this year it went pear-shaped. They had originally scheduled me for a pelvic, but after reviewing a lot of literature, I was unsure I needed one and said so, so they canceled my original appointment and scheduled me for one to 'discuss menopause and birth control options'. When I got to the clinic, after a short wait I was sent into an exam room. A nurse-practitioner came in to take my blood pressure and temperature and check my weight, then told me, "Go ahead and take off your clothes and put on the gown, and the doctor will be in..." Wait, what? I only came in for a discussion, not an exam. The NP seemed slightly flustered about my firm refusal to have a pelvic (which was NOT mentioned at the time I made the appointment), and left. A few minutes later a doctor came in (without knocking) and was very cursory about my options. Her firm opinion was that a woman of my age shouldn't be on birth control pills, but she offered very little in the way of alternatives, including jokingly saying my SO should have his tubes tied. NO mention was made of mini-pills, implants, patches, or anything relating to menopause or its effects. I was so taken aback that any questions I had went completely out of my head. I left without the information I came for, and the doctor left me dangling with no birth control options that were not OTC. The impression I got was that this clinic is much more geared towards women of childbearing age. I'm not returning. read more

I just joined Maui Lani as a newcomer to the island, and I could not have had a better experience. Everyone was super professional from the start. Even just booking my appointment and getting my paperwork in, Leni was amazingly helpful and professional. When I arrived to my appointment, I was greeted by Cathy at the desk and immediately felt so welcome. Their facilities are bright and clean and are truly a comfortable space. The nurse who checked me in and my nurse-practitioner Paige were both amazing. I left feeling so well taken care of. By far one of the best experiences I've had at a doctor's office. read more

Dr. Takemoto was incredibly rude, and I will never step foot back in this office ever again. I also plan on informing anyone that should ever ask, about my terrible experience with these people. Everyone in the office was very pleasant during my first and second visit. Of course, these were quick and easy visits, where not much was being done. At the end of my second visit (Saturday), I was asked which date I would like my procedure to be done on. I was given 2 options: Monday afternoon, or Wednesday midday. I asked Dr. Ammerman (who I saw first), if I chose a date and it didn't work for my ride (required a local anesthetic), would I be able to reschedule? Her answer was that I could, and that I just needed to call back as soon as I knew. I chose Monday afternoon. Only about 30 minutes after leaving my appointment, I called back to switch appointment dates, as the date I had chosen didn't work for the person who'd pick me up. When I called, the receptionist who answered said "That should be fine. Let me just check with the doctor, and call you back". This was about 30 minutes to an hour before they closed, so not wanting to bother her, I didn't call back. Monday came, and I still had yet to receive a phone call. By this time, it had slipped my mind to call them, which makes this partially my fault, but if it wasn't okay, I feel like someone should have called to let me know. I got a call around 3:00 pm, which was my "previous" appointment time. When I answered, I was told that I missed my appointment. When I told the woman on the phone that I thought the appointment had been moved, she told me that she had nothing about that. This procedure was something "time sensitive", and needed to be done asap. With that being said; I was a bit upset at the "ball being dropped". I will admit that I got a bit upset on the phone, but I was being told that the conversation didn't happen. I wasn't being told that I should have followed up, or that someone mistakenly didn't call me back to let me know that the appointment wasn't available, but that the conversation I had with SOMEONE, didn't happen. Forgive me for getting mad, but I had a witness to this conversation... It DID happen. Now, not only did I "miss" my appointment, I was being told that I never called, AND that there wasn't anything open until the end of the week. Again, this procedure was one that needed to be done before too much time had passed, and now a week was being added. I was upset, but understood that it needed to get done, so obliged to taking the appointment later in the week. When I went in for the procedure - everyone in the office was suddenly much colder then they had been before. Their demeanor had noticeably changed. After waiting about 20 minutes, I was brought into a back room, and told that they were going to hook up my IV. I mentioned to the nurse that I am terrified of needles, and noticing my tattoos, laughed and made a comment about how I shouldn't be. I explained to her, that though I could understand how you may assume this, it is a different kind of needle. I explained that my fear isn't the needle itself, but the act of someone placing a needle into my body. I also informed her that for whatever reason, people are always unsuccessful using the veins in my arms, and that she would be more successful with my hand. She told me that she was going to try my arm first. With no surprise to me, she was unsuccessful. After this, she poked and prodded all around my arms and hands, only to gripe that she would attempt to hook the IV in to a vein in my hand. Again... no success. Another nurse came in and tried. No success. At this point I was very uncomfortable from being poked so many times. A 3RD person came in, and at this time I was crying, and frustrated. I said several times that I couldn't understand why no one was able to get this IV started. I have been pregnant 4 times, and each time they've drawn blood and hooked IVs up to my hands. Some may have needed an extra poke, but not FOUR. In addition to their failure in hooking up the IV, they were unnecessarily rough, and insensitive. They would insert the needle, and jerk it around, as if they weren't concerned with the pain they were causing. After the 4th person was unsuccessful, the Dr. Takemoto came in. I was crying hysterically, and she just sat down next to me with this look of disappointment, almost as if I had done something wrong. She told me that they weren't going to be able to get the IV started, so if I wanted to have the procedure done, they were going to have to do it without any medication. I was crying - and she looked at me and said "You know, you were very rude to my staff. I don't have to do this procedure". I was baffled. It all made sense after that comment. My hands were completely bruised for the next week from how rough they had been. I had to have it done, so I opted to go to the hospital. I wouldn't step foot in that office again if you paid me. read more

During my first visit with this office I was seen by the nurse practitioner Paige Cook. During our visit I felt like she truly listened to my concerns and genuinely care about me not just as a patient but also as a person. She helped calm my nerves early in my pregnancy and helped me to know how to take care of myself and baby throughout the pregnancy. DO NOT GO HERE IF you are over 30 and trying to conceive or over 30 and have had a miscarriage. It will save you heartache and critical lost time. I am not picky over doctors and can overlook long wait times and insensitive comments (such as a rant about staff letting pregnant women book appointments to early because my developing baby was too small. I knew my dates, it wasn't early and the baby has stopped growing. Thanks Dr. Takemoto). After 3 years of appointments about difficulties getting pregnant and 3 miscarriages, I have never had testing for recurrent miscarriages, never been referred to a specialist, and practically had to beg for any testing to be done. After a last straw with my 3rd miscarriage and again asking for testing that my friend who is a doctor recommended and said was a standard of care, I went to Stellar Women's Health Care. One appointment there, she says, "I refer all patients over 30 who have not conceived in 6 months or who have had ONE (!) miscarriage to a specialist. I let her know I'm unsure of the costs. She says, the consult is free and my insurance, HMSA, which I have always had, covers one IVF (again!). The kicker, as I am now over 40 (which was not the case before), I'll need to use donor eggs. I'm writing this post to save you heartache and hopefully allow you chance to have a child. Good luck! read more

My wife was treated very poorly here. We are having a baby very soon and the doctors here have been giving her a hard time about canceling an appt. and not having certain procedures done because she is against them. I completely support all her decisions that she chooses and its her right. I understand that the doctors have specific protocols they have to follow but there was no support system with explaining why. She was told she has to do a certain procedure and when she questioned them all they said was "because you have to and that's the way it's done". Having a baby should be a beautiful and wonderful experience. The Mother should be treated with respect and open arms no matter how many kids she has. She is the one giving birth and going through the process. I am deeply appalled by her experience here. Future clients beware and stay away from this place. read more
