The ride up is fun with a quick visit to the National Park included to see the crater firsthand, followed by some fun pictures jumping out of the clouds! Ride with Kimo to learn how they get those pictures! The ride itself starts just outside the National Park (limited by newer regulations limiting tour rides in the park itself) to enjoy the switchbacks - a video is included below! Those turns are not difficult - so don't let that part dissuade you from taking the tour. Stop at the town of Makawao for lunch (Freshies had a good menu) and ride like bandits back to the shop as the lag van holds traffic back a bit to clear the roadway for you! The island is open for business, save some small parts around Lahaina itself still recovering from the devastating fires of 2023, with limited impact elsewhere on the island. Take this trip now while the crowds are a bit lighter too, you won't regret it at all as Maui is just beautiful! Ka'anapala just north of Lahaina is hopping!

Eddie did a thorough job of making sure everyone was safe and how to navigate the roads on the bike. While we still highly recommend this activity, there were a few things that fell a bit short. With such an early start, the drive seemed to move slow with a few slow rolling stops to point out deer or a landmark. Sadly, the morning glow started and we had not yet reached the summit. Ultimately we parked and had only a few minutes to use the bathroom and get in place to watch the sunrise then boom back in the van. So that was roughly 2 hours driving in the van for less than 30 minutes at the summit. It was very rushed. It would have been nice to gotten there about 20 minutes sooner to watch the glow start. Dress in layers. There was a quick photo op on the drive down but no stop at the visitors center. The bike ride down. It was convenient to be able to leave a bag in the van with the layers of clothes and jackets no longer needed. We enjoyed the self guided having the chance to stop at our leisure and take photos. It is definitely a braking ride and be smart to use them. The fact that the law prohibits biking through Kula meant we had to stop, load the bikes, get back on the van and jump over the town. That takes a away a significant chunk of the ride. A nice stop in Makawao for coffee and a bite to eat. Having done this ride before the law made for a disappointing comparison. I would recommend this activity, however I'm not likely to do it again until the change the law to ride through Kula and arrive to the summit a few minutes earlier.

I reserved an e-bike on December 21 for a Christmas Day ride, with a return on the 26th. Their online system let me submit the reservation without any warnings or restrictions. But when I showed up to pick it up, I was told they wouldn't rent it to me because they're closed on the 25th, and someone else had the bike booked on the 26th. They also said they needed time to tune the bike in between. That explanation is understandable. What's not understandable is that nobody told me ahead of time. If they had reached out earlier, I could have adjusted the plan. I didn't even mind paying for an extra day to make it work. The bigger issue is that the reservation system shouldn't allow you to book dates that can't actually be fulfilled. I'm open to giving them another try, but they really need to fix the reservation process and communication so customers don't find out at pickup that the rental can't happen.

We quickly filled out a rental agreement then they gave us the rundown in operating an E-bike and answered question. They provided locks and backpacks for our water. This will definitely be our "go to" place for bike rentals in the future. Thanks for a great time!!

Not only is Donovan an experienced and professional guide; he is chill, compassionate, easy to talk with, and full of helpful and insider information re: Maui and Hawaii in general. I learned from him so much about local norms (i.e., driving along those switchbacks and one-lane bridges), legends, flora and fauna, and....good bathroom stops. It was very much a customized tour - and he managed a couple of special requests for me. I always felt safe, he customized the day for me; it was a most excellent way to spend a day on Maui. Thank you to Susan and Donovan for an very special, unforgettable adventure.

Not only did we get to ride in comfort with all our stuff, but we also customized every stop. We could easily say "yes" or "no" to any stop on the Road to Hana. Our tour guide Chris was excellent, informative, and fun to hang out with for the entire day. Chris had great recommendations for us and the food stops were amazing and delicious and tailored to what we were feeling or not feeling. We had a general idea of the stops we wanted to hit based on our research, but Chris went above and beyond to show us unique stops and views and scenic views. We made great memories and got to experience the road to Hana in a way that far exceeded our expectations. All though it was not the most affordable way to experience the road to Hana, we still felt it was worth the cost. It will be a great memory for us for years to come. I can now say I swam in a waterfall....a very cold one, but definitely worth it. Chris knows these roads and all the stops you might want to see, and he customized it to our level of adventure, including hikes and swims along the way. You can definitely find cheaper alternatives, but I would suggest speaking with Awapuhi Adventures to see if they can meet your needs. The pros of going private is that you are in the drivers seat (figuratively) for where and when to stop, and can skip anything that seems generic or not to your liking. The con is that it will cost some $$$. In our experience, it was worth it! Thanks again, Chris!

The experience was a farm tour, educational workshop, coconut tasting, and cooking class all rolled into one. We really enjoyed learning about the multi-faceted coconut and about Ryan's journey with the farm. The coconut noodles he made us were SO GOOD. Seriously blew our minds and can't wait to make it at home and share with others. Truly a fun, inspiring, and educational experience. We couldn't stop raving about it after we left. Ryan even sent us home with a "4-pack" of coconuts so we could have some fresh coconut water for the rest of our trip. Highly recommend - please go check it out!

We could not have had a group that meshed BETTER than all of us. Our guide Henry clearly knew "the good spots" because we didn't stop anywhere that anyone else was... he made us climb down treacherous "root ladders" and walk through the coldest water up to our necks but his ideas were always SO worth it.
