Our family of 7 joined Kona and Nick on the 8 zip-line course out of Lahaina and loved every minute of our time with them as guides. They were funny, kind, down-to-earth, helpful, safe, and knowledgeable about the activity, island, and Hawaiian culture. We had kids from ages 11-19 plus us older parents and everyone had fun. Even our one nervous kiddo ended up loving the adventure and would gladly go again. We have zip-lined in other countries and states and can confidently say that Kona and Nick were 2 of our favorite guides. Ask for them and be ready to have a great time. The whole experience with Skyline Hawaii was absolutely wonderful! Our driver, Marlon, picked us up perfectly on time at 2 a.m. and safely drove us up to Haleakalā National Park under the most incredible, star-filled sky. Watching the sunrise from above the clouds was truly breathtaking--a once-in-a-lifetime moment. Afterward, we stopped at a beautiful plantation where we enjoyed an amazing breakfast before heading back to our hotel. The entire tour was smooth and well-organized; they even provided warm jackets and were very thoughtful about car sickness and altitude sensitivity (though thankfully no one had any issues). Everything about this tour was perfect! We took the sunrise tour in the Haleakalā National Park and it didn't disappoint. We had to get up early of course. But that comes with the territory. We got picked up at 2am right in front of our Air b&b. The drivers name was Trevor, he was very knowledgeable and polite about everything. He told us about the ride up and how it might make you a bit woozy. Listen to him. The road winds and if you follow the headlights you will explode like the volcano you're going to visit. Close your eyes and enjoy the ride. The coolest thing about this tour is that Trevor tells you everything he knows about the island the culture the history . These are the things that we tourists don't consider. Details man! But really the coolest thing is the star show you get when you stop halfway up and while you're "waiting for the sun" like the song says. (The Doors) I saw shooting stars, satellites moving,and planets. Then the big orange sun comes up through the clouds at 10,000 feet and takes your breath away. While all this is going on the locals who are also guides I guess do chant that brings you someplace else in your head. This is probably the most magnificent thing you will ever see and hear that nature can through at you in a lifetime.Then when you head down the mountain with Trevor he takes you to a couple more spots tells you all about the crater and the plant life , animals, and the trails all around the park. Finally you end up eating a really nice breakfast in a really cool old mill and plantation where they turned all the old pieces of machinery into art or decorative pieces that function as tables and awnings as well as other furniture. The staff here too is great. Then Trevor takes you back to where you got picked up and it's over. Make sure you do this tour if you're in Maui. It's the best. The Haleakala Sunrise is just as breathtaking & awesome as everyone says!!! The trek, however, can be daunting for an inexperienced tourist... And as one of those out of town visitors, I'm so glad we decided to go with a tour company (and not on our own)! SKYLINE Hawaii made it an incredible, very enjoyable, and memorable experience!!! Glenn was an outstanding driver & tour guide. He was right on schedule with pickups (*arriving at each group's doorstep, assigned times around 2:30 - 3 AM), and made sure everyone felt prepared & comfortable; he offered tasty ginger candies for nausea and complimentary jackets to keep us warm at higher altitudes (*It was 30 degrees with a 25mph wind at the top!). He was also a well-spoken storyteller who engaged us in Hawaiian folklore & island experiences to entertain us on the long drive (about 2 to 3 hours each way). And, most importantly he was an expert with navigating through steep, winding, and intimidating cliffside roads (*in pitch black), safely piloting our big shuttle bus to the summit. Glenn got us to our destination earlier than others, beating the crowds. Once we parked, he pointed out the best spots and gave us free roam. We did, in fact, find the perfect little cubby, with just the right protection from wind and an impressive view!!! As a bonus, the tour package also included a hearty breakfast at adorable Kula Inn on the mountain... And then, a drop off back to our hotels/AirBnB's concluded the fantastic experience. scheduled a zip line weeks in advance for my girlfriends birthday and they called me the day before and cancelled our entire tour because they "didn't have enough people" apparently they need 6 people to sign up for the tour so if you're trying to go with your girlfriend there's a super high chance they'll cancel on you the day before. read more

We took the sunrise tour to Haleakala on July 6 with Keith as our guide. We had a terrific time and Keith did a great job sharing his insights and experiences about Maui and Heleakala. Sunrise was amazing and be sure to be ready to record it along with the native Hawaiian chant. It's cold even in summer, so be sure to reserve your jacket and wear long pants. Breakfast at Kula lodge was quick and efficient and the grounds were beautiful. With a bunch of tour groups coming through, it's understandable staff is a bit in a hurry. Be sure to walk the garden after you eat, it's beautiful. I read some reviews with folks complaining about service at the lodge. Remember folks, the islands were basically closed for a year and many businesses are understaffed due to folks having to move to the mainland etc. Understanding goes a long way toward having a great time. Also to the nasty woman who complained relentlessly that another party "took" your daughter's seat on the bus after a stop, the fact that Keith had to go find you and your family despite everyone else being back to the bus in a timely manner speaks volumes about you, and nobody else. read more

We did the sunrise tour at Haleakala Summit. There are so many good things about this outfit: our tour guide, the respect shown for the sacred lands, plants, and animal species that live on Haleakala, and history lessons about the area. Mana was our tour guy and he was absolutely fantastic. Very knowledgeable, patient, courteous and safe (especially since going up the mountain is done while it's dark out). Mana talked about history of the islands, Haleakala, fauna and flora, as well as animals that live in the area. He had a great balance of teaching us about Haleakala and Maui and letting everyone rest. Absolutely stellar of a guy and we learned so much from him. I now have even more respect for the Islands and their history. Hearing the tour guides recite the Native Hawaiian chants as the sun rose was a spectacular experience and reminded you that you were somewhere special and sacred. Another nice thing was that the dispatch would be in contact with you the morning of the tour so you were able to text a real human being in case you had issues finding your pickup spot. The summit was cold so bring layers of clothes. You will be provided with a jacket. I recommend bringing gloves. You will get there on time before anyone else so finding a good spot for the sunrise will not be a problem. read more

I did the sunrise and zip tour the morning after I arrived in Maui. From the moment I scheduled my trip, Skyline was there to make sure I had an amazing time. I had Keith as my driver and he was incredible. I love learning about nature and animals, so Keith was the perfect guide. He made me forget it was 4 in the morning and had me all excited and interested in the history and information he was sharing. Keith has a wealth of knowledge from living and working in Maui for so long and it made the trip that much better. The sunrise at Haleakala was quite possibly one of the most beautiful things I have seen in my life. Go see it! It was nice to have Skyline take me up there so I didn't have to drive unfamiliar windy roads in the dark. Keith has driven the roads hundreds of times, so his confidence was great. After the sunrise, we went down the hill a little for our zip lines! Woooo it was sooo fun! Alec and Kevin were fun, humorous, professional, and silly. It was the perfect follow up to the sunrise. We did 5 lines and a really cool bridge. The last zip line is awesome! It's super long and fast and you go back and forth a few times before stopping. After the zip, we ate a very yummy lunch that Keith picked up for us down the hill. On our way back down, Keith continued to tell us even more about Maui! It was awesome. We wanted to see Haleakalā, but we didn't want to drive up ourselves and lug winter gear in our luggage. Skyline offered a good deal for $159.95 ($10 off online), where they pick you up at your hotel, take you to Haleakalā (10,000 feet high), make a couple stops down, and have breakfast in Kula, that is at the base of the volcano. BTW, Skyline also offers tours to Hana and zipline tours. Seeing the sunrise is amazing in and of itself. There was some Hawaiian chanting going on, and you could picture what ancient Hawaiians did when they came to Haleakalā. Its amazing that they were able to ascend to the top by walking. As the story goes in Hawaiian mythology, the demigod Maui lassoed the sun to dry the bark to make clothing. Its cold up here (low 40's the day we went), so dress accordingly. I wore jeans, winter socks, a fleece hoodie, gloves, Skyline's light jacket, and I was still cold. Nonetheless, I saw idiots in shorts and slippers w/ a light hoodie: WTF were these peeps thinking?! Our tour guide was Glenn, a transplant from Conn. However, he has been living on Maui for 34 years, so he is prolly more local vs the locals. Glenn shared a lot of the history behind Haleakalā, as well as some local tidbits about Maui and Hawai'i in general. He embodies the spirit of aloha through his kindness and genuine concern that everyone under his watch enjoy the tour to the fullest: 5+++++ Stars. However you decide to see the sun rise at Haleakalā, its a highly recommended thing to do. I'm glad I brought my daughter to Kīlauea and now here to teach her more about Hawaiian culture and history. This was my first visit to Hawaii/Maui and, after a call to friends for recommendations, the Haleakala Sunrise Tour came highly recommended. I'm so glad we opted to go with Skyline Tours. Our guide Glenn was so knowledgeable, amiable, and a total pro (enough that I said he needed to start a podcast). Their system is organized, buses are clean and comfortable, and you feel like you've done so much and learned so much.. but it's only 10 AM! First recommendation: If you're coming from CONUS, book this tour on your first full day in Maui. Don't wait until the middle/end of your vacation. We went to a luau the day we landed, and being on Pacific time, were exhausted by 9PM (12AM PT). However waking up at 1:45 AM HST the next morning was not so hard to do when you're jet lagged. Plus we got to make up for sleep on the drive to the Skyline Offices and again up the mountain (I'm sure I got at least another 1.5 hours of sleep on the bus). It's nice Glenn chit chats and then factored in "quiet time" as needed. Second recommendation: Layer. Take a jacket or 2 when they offer it. I brought a sweater, a North Face puffy liner, and STILL put on their heavy coat, ear muffs, and gloves. My husband didn't grab a jacket (beyond his Northface) and he was FREEZING. Low 40s at 10K feet does NOT feel the same as low 40s at sea level. Also grab some snacks, coffee, water. You'll be glad to have it on the bus and while waiting 1-2 hours for the sun to fully rise. BUT once it's time for brunch you'll be happy to be able to shed some layers because it does get warm quickly. Third: Take a handful of the ginger candies. I'm pregnant and I get motion sickness so I had about 3 during the course of the tour to be safe. They worked! Plus we had a couple extra to use for our Road to Hana the next day. Fourth: Listen to the park rangers and don't be that guy out of bounds. The nice female ranger has a very tactful albeit embarrassing way of calling you out in front of 150-200 other tourists. I will say though that her Mele Oli (chant) was beautiful and a highlight of the experience. I wish knew the words to participate. Lastly: Breakfast was a great ending to the morning. The restaurant is situated on the way down the mountain with a great view of the valley. If you don't want to do the precarious bike down or are too pregnant to zipline, the safe enclosure of eating eggs and coffee with a panoramic view of the island was great in comparison. This was a beautiful and likely once in a lifetime (maybe twice) experience that anyone visiting Maui should partake in, especially with Skyline. Bonus tip: Bring a good camera if you have access to one... even those ancient things called a digital handheld camera (not an Iphone) or a DSLR. Play with the exposures, apertures, etc. I wish I had a good camera to take photos of the gorgeous star filled night sky which is something you rarely see living in a city. Mahalo! When you book the most popular tour on Maui, you expect to be just another face in a big crowd of tourists. You assume the best part of the experience will be the sunrise on Haleakala. Not so, with Skyline Hawaii! All the small touches made the difference: the hot coffee, tea, and cocoa as well as snacks that greeted us at the incomprehensible hour of 3 AM at their office in Makawao. There were jackets with hoods offered to us, as sunrise at 10,000 feet is a cold experience! What truly made this a joyous and memorable experience was our tour guide, Paul. He had a self-deprecating sense of humor that put us all at ease. His puns were funny, and when we occasionally groaned, it was to laugh WITH him. Sometimes when people talk about themselves, it seems self-serving. Paul gently told us his story, his experience at Haleakala, how it was a turning point in his life, and everyone on the bus resonated with his experience. Somehow Paul managed to connect with something different and special within each one of us, and in doing so allowed us a greater, more impactful, and dare I say spiritual, experience of sunrise on Haleakala. Paul was also a wealth of information about the mountain, its rich history, its flora and fauna, and he peppered it all with tongue-in-cheek humor which made the ride very entertaining. He ensured we all had great photographs to take home as memories of this experience, and offered his best "local guide" services to answer all of our questions. The bus was actually small - we had 10 in our crew, plus Paul. The bus was clean, comfortable, warm, and cozy. Breakfast at the Kula Lodge was very pleasant and Paul ensured that those of us with some dietary restrictions or special requests had exactly what we asked for when we arrived. We did the sunrise tour atop of Haleakala Mountain. The sunrise itself was beautiful and breathtaking, almost as if you are standing atop the clouds. Our tour guide Carlos was very knowledgeable of the area and told us a lot about the mountain, Hawaii, and the tour process itself. He's definitely a professional at his now after doing this for several years. However, I don't think we were given fair warning about how cold it is up the mountain. We were told to have sweats and were given a jacket and windbreakers, but just because it's 52 degrees outside doesn't mean that it's not that cold. It might be 52, but with the strong winds, it felt like 25-35 degrees. It was quite different than what we were told and had I known I definitely would have layered up more. I think it was well-organized for the most part, but I think the advice about layering up is just not emphasized enough. We waited 45 minutes to an hour outside warming up around a corner where the wind couldn't get us as much. This wasn't great given the tight look-out space. read more

We are a family of 5 (ages 14-42) and this was all our first time doing a real zip line. We did the 5 line tour, and it was a total blast! We had the best guides, Gen and Ikaika. They made us feel comfortable, and they had really fun personalities making the experience extra entertaining, and they also educated us about local plant and wild life. The course started out mild and became more extreme speeds/heights/distances as we went, but nothing that made us feel unsafe. The Indiana Jones bridge was awesome! Overall, we had a great tour. Keith, our driver from the central station to the top of the mountain, was very informative and provided a safe and peaceful ride. What's nice is that the company provides gloves and a warm jacket for this tour, so you don't have to lug around these items to Hawaii. Being in the surroundings of endemic Hawaiian forest- the views, the clouds, everything- was so beautiful. This was a little gem tucked away in the mountains! To begin, they made us feel very safe, following covid guidelines before getting started. They are also an eco-educational tour so they explained the reasons to wash our shoes before entering the park and the history of the trees. You'll see that some of the lush trees have been cut down but there is a very important reason for that, which they explain. The tour itself was great - it builds up so even a beginner like me could build confidence in it. Did the sunrise and zipline tour as my birthday gift to myself. There really is nothing like a sunrise from the top of Haleakala. Ziplining afterward was a fantastic time. However, there were some caveats to my experience that give it the lower rating: 1.) Our driver to Haleakala was pretty miserable. Not sure if he just hated people or was in a bad mood since he was picking us all up at 3am...but he was pretty nasty to everyone. Was very judgmental and snarky. Not pleasant. Another group in my booking was also told by the company they would "get left behind if they don't find the driver". unprofessional. 2.) It's f****n freezing. Yes, even in Hawaii. They tell you bring a "light jacket". No. You need winter coat/gloves/LAYERS!!! and the jacket they provide you is nice but definitely not enough. 3.) We were picked up at 3am and were not provided breakfast, as advertised. We got our very unexciting lunches at 11am, which at that point I probably would've eaten my arm off so. BRING SNACKS! 4.) They got us to the summit over an hour before sunrise, and then kind of booted us off the bus into the cold... we stood there like little frozen penguins for 45 minutes before dawn even broke. Now for the perks: 1.) Ziplining was GREAT. I'm not 100% positive but i'm pretty sure our guides were Kevin and Alex/Alec(?) (i'm so sorry I'm forgetting your names because you guys were AMAZING). So friendly, funny, and made the whole experience enjoyable. Give those guys a raise 2.) Our driver did show us a good spot where we were partially blocked from the wind to stand and watch the sunrise. That helped a bit! 3.) Our driver, although unpleasant, was very knowledgeable of the area. Also drove very safely and picked us all up / dropped us at our respective lodging. All in all i'm glad i did it, but am a little disappointed in the hospitality of the company for the $$$! read more

Skyline Hawaii - Best view of zip line ! - Tours Near Me - Kahului, Hawaii

We took the Sunrise Tour on our first morning arriving to Maui from east coast time - so... good because our bodies were actually ok with waking up at 2:00 am for that 2:30 am pick up but bad because it had been a full day of travel the day prior to... This is for me a once in a lifetime must do - to experience the sunrise up this high... and highly recommend spending the money on Skyline's tour which included breakfast. The rodes are dangerous and probably a stressful drive to manage - especially in the dark.. The pacing was just right and we ended with a nice relaxing breakfast (the food was decent - setting great). Our guide was Mana and this was an added bonus as he is a Hawaiin native and very knowledgeable and respectful of the land. He talked the right amount -letting us rest for much of the night driving portion. Skyline provided jackets - many tours do - but some companies had "loud" guides that didn't match the Haleakala setting!!! Only reason I didn't go 5 stars is because of my party of 5 - I was the only one to have motion sickness from the combination of travelling day before and the windy drive/ high elevation/ not eating/ ... so my morning pretty much ruined, but for the other 4 people in my family they absolutely loved it!!! I do recommend Sunrise Tour, and Skyline, and Mana as a guide!! read more
