Hi, I have gotten a great cut each time I've been there (twice), but the last time I went recently was a bad experience. It had been a while since I had been and couldn't recall how long and the hair dresser just proceeded to tell me that it had been longer than I was saying and proving me wrong. I couldn't decide how I wanted to style it and asked for suggestions and she just said she doesn't give suggestions. This lasted the entire hair cut. I showed a picture and showed her to do it like that and she said, 'I'm just going to stick to what you said before.' Then I just finally said, 'do whatever you'd like.' I tipped her well because she did a great job, but it was a very uncomfortable experience. Quality work, not quality customer service. Will not be back. read more

I was on vacation in Hawaii, and thought about getting my hair done since everywhere in good ol' California was closed due to COVID. I hadn't gotten my hair done since November of 2019, so I was due for a cut at the very least. After perusing Yelp reviews of different hair salons in the area, I came across Dorene Furtado's work. She had pictures up of the exact hair color and style that I wanted, so I knew I had to contact her right away. Booking with Dorene was easy and seamless through text, and she was able to fit me in on New Years Eve! The salon itself is in the Kaka'ako district. I've only ever been there a couple of times, so driving past all the mural decorated warehouses was so nice during the day. You can definitely see how unique and vibrant of a neighborhood it is. Parking was super easy; Nueve Salon has their own parking lot, and location wise is very easy to find. The salon is clean, bright, and well-kept, and I felt lucky to have been the only person in that day. Dorene took her time to explain what she was going to do, and ensured that she was able to execute exactly what I wanted without damaging my hair. After a couple of hours in the chair, some highlights, and a cut later, I felt lighter and like I had finally had some self care time (a rarity with kids). Used to work Security over there. Owner (Abe) harassed me multiple times because he thought I could do whatever asks me to do. I worked for the plaza, not him. Even tenants there hated this guy because of his antics. One day he told me to remove a vehicle from a stall that was not even his. He even thought that he owned that parking lot as well. I told him no and he began to berate me. The workers there were cool though. Very respectable. Never had any issues with them. I will never forget my work experience over there. Worst tenant I have ever worked Security for. I also wanted to thank him for opening my eyes as a young Security guard that there are definitely people like him in this industry. read more

On a pure impulsive decision I called after work at 6pm, asking if they could fit in a balayage/ombré type thing. The owner said I could come in at 7, score! I was the only one at the salon at that time, but the owner was very kind and polite. I had black/red dyed hair at the time and showed him what I wanted; blonde ombré/balayage. I liked his honestly; he informed me since my hair was dark/colored it wouldn't get as light as I wanted and it would take a few sessions to get that blonde, which I understood. I usually always dye my own hair from a box at home, so doing it here was a real treat. The salon was very nice and clean, I didn't feel rushed or uncomfortable at any time, and I even got a nice scalp massage during washing! My hair has always been tricky and it didn't lighten a whole lot, but I do like the subtly of it and how it turned out. Definitely want to get a couple more sessions! read more

I am unreasonably attached to my hair. I typically cut it about once a year for a few reasons: (1) My hair grows VERRRYYYY slowlyyy and if I cut it once every 3 months, as recommended by every hair stylists ever, I will be bald. (2) I dance hula and I'm supposed to keep it long. (3) I love having long hair! So...it had been about 10 months since my last haircut, and I had been having internal dialogues with myself about sucking it up and making an appointment to cut it because the ends were ratty and damaged and it was getting harder to hide its unkept, shabby condition in ponytails and braids. With a kiss of fate, I met Abe and his fabulous team at Nueve Salon at the Honolulu Night Market! They came by our Yelp booth and talked story and convinced me to make a haircut appointment on the spot! It was a fateful night for my dying locks. About a week later, I ventured to their salon in Kaka'ako. It's located on the second floor of 614 Cooke St. and is attached to the Nueve Spa. The salon is super spacious and chic. Abe, the salon owner and hair stylist, still made it in time for my appointment after tending to a flood at his house! (Talk about prioritizing your clients!) He was so professional and did a wonderful job on my hair! After an awesome shampoo and scalp massage, Abe snipped off the dread-like mess at the end of my long hair and gave me a great cut! He didn't go too short so I won't get in trouble at hula, but he cut off enough to put some life and bounce back into my ends. I hardly recognized myself! I loved spending a therapeutic hour at Nueve Salon talking story with Abe and the other stylists, and I can't wait to go back for another cut! read more

We corresponded before my appt, discussing what I wanted, sent some pics, and she responded courteously. I have naturally dark and colored hair ( to cover grays ) so it did take a while to bleach my hair. She will tell you up front whether it can be done or not as she assess your hair in person. When I told my go-to hairstylist Mahina that I wanted to dye my hair brown, she was shocked cause I have been dyeing it red for so long... Fortunately she was down to take on the project. The first dye she did was a rich brown color but not enough to take out all the red. The second time she dyed it she used a darker brown, almost black to pull the red. At first I was uneasy on how dark it was but she reassured me that I would like it and it would lighten up. Remember now, she's reversing 6 years of artificial redhead-ness. After she washed my hair and gave me her amazing neck/head massage (I swear I fall asleep every time!) she dried and curled my hair. I was more than happy with my transformation and stoked that she had gotten all the red out. I felt like Carrie of Sex & The City when she dyed her hair brown. I've been here twice-both with Groupons. They put out some great deals, so scoop them up! The first time I went was for a massage, and the second time was for hair. I had only ever had one other professional massage before this experience, and I hated it! It hurt so bad and there was no way I could relax. I guess I don't really think about getting a massage as a health benefit as much as I think about wanting it to just feel good! Well, I told Kim, my massage therapist about my first time and what I didn't like about it. She listened to me and gave me a fantastic, relaxing, yet still beneficial massage. I bought two more for myself and another one as a gift. The second time I went back was to get a haircut, partial highlights, and deep conditioning treatment----for $49!!! I got this deal off Groupon, so honestly, I wasn't expecting much. I thought at most I'd get a decent trim and at least some fresh color. Monae did much more than that, though! She really listened to what I wanted...I wanted highlights I didn't have to maintain every month, so she did something I would have never thought of-she put them under my top layer! Now, I never have to worry about roots and my hair looks really great! She did such a wonderful job, and for the price (the original would have been $105), it can't be beat! I don't know why I would ever go anywhere else now that I found this gem. She also gives a pretty lengthy scalp massage during the deep conditioning treatment which was a huge plus. read more

In an effort to grow out his hair, my BF kind of looked like...a chia pet. *sigh* So when we both got sick of the 'fro, we asked the extremely talented Cindy to work her magic. (On both of us! I used a Groupon for a haircut + extra treatment. What a steal!) - When I say, "Cindy, you're the best stylist ever!" I also mean, "Omg THANK YOU. My boyfriend finally looks like my boyfriend again. Except with better hair this time!" BF's hair was awesome. She helped him find a style that would work with his hairtype. She cut it super cleanly and evenly too--he usually goes home to even it out after cuts but didn't have to after Cindy was done. - My haircut was...perhaps even more awesome then BFs! I was in dire need of a trim but I really love my length. Cindy made sure I was okay with whatever she cut off and gave my hair more movement with face framing layers. She even showed me how to properly curl my hair. So yep--we both walked out 100% more stylish than we walked in. Parking: you can park in the parking lot located with the building. It will say only 20 min, but you're able to park there for longer. I wasn't aware of this the first time I went, but the guy told me once I checked-in for my appointment. Location: it's on the 2nd floor and there are two entrances. One is for the spa and one is for the salon. When you're in the parking lot, take the stairs that are on the furthest left when looking at the building, take those up and take the first door that comes, that's the salon. Haircut: I originally bought a groupon for haircut, blow dry, and hydration lock. When I got there, I didn't know what to expect. I realized I wanted shine instead of the hydration lock and Cindy was generous enough to offer that to me at no extra cost. Cindy is great with haircuts!! She's super nice, friendly, and takes her time to get it done right. I was worried about getting a haircut from a Groupon vendor and the fact that I went to only one person for the past 6 years in VA, but I realized that most vendors do groupons if they're new and are trying to build their clientele. I loved my haircut and plan on going back to her because the prices seemed reasonable. Spa: I had also gotten a groupon deal to get a 60 min massage. You fill out a questionnaire at the beginning of your session to let the masseuse know what your problem areas are or if you want them to concentrate on a specific portion. This review is for the spa. I had bought a Living Social deal for a facial from Kristin and went to see her last Thursday evening. Kristin's facial included ALL the things that I love best. Head massage! Neck massage! Treating the décolletage area. Massage and moisturizing the arms and hands. When I left, I was very relaxed and just felt that a weight had been lifted from my shoulders...the traffic jam on Ala Moana Blvd. when trying to get home didn't even take the buzz off. I rarely let my expectations rise for any occasion as for one, people rarely meet my expectations and two, I hate the feeling of disappointment. But for Cindy, she set the bar for me!!! I came in for a trim and ombre as I have been wanting to get some color in my hair. Let me start off by saying, I LOVE MY HAIR!!! Cindy listens to what you want and adjusts to fix your hair so it suits you! She is very meticulous, detailed, and takes the time to give you that individual attention every person needs for their hair. Prior to my cut and color, my hair was dark brown and medium length with no real shape to it. After Cindy, my hair is a beautiful color of brown, dark brown, and golden brown with multiple layers put in! Usually when you go get your eyebrows done, its a very intense experience (at least for me) But my last experience with Kristin, I think I fell asleep while she was doing it.... What a troll!!! The room is an amazing setting... You get to lay in a message bed and she plays soothing message music.. What I love the most is that she takes her time when it comes to shaping your eyebrows... And she puts something before waxing (which I found out last visit it was baby powder) and it's less painful. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND KRISTIN TO GET YOUR EYEBROW DONE! Trust me, she may not have years of experience under her belt yet, but I have NEVER been disappointed in her work yet. She has always exceeded my expectations. The past few visits we've been doing a purple haircolor, which ended up with me carrying around her business cards. So many people have asked me where I get my hair done; I'm like free, walking advertising!! Great, awesome, highly recommended stylist!!!! The salon itself is clean and has a great, comfy atmosphere. Parking is sometimes hard to find if the 3 dedicated stalls are taken, but then again, where isn't it in this general area? Anjalee is who to see if during your visit to Honolulu you need a special look for a special someone or a special event. You will be gratified beyond your wildest dreams. We recently relocated to Waikiki and after four weeks were in desperate need of the services of a stylist. A neighbor's recommendation took us to the Nueve Salon in Kakaako. The salon is on the second floor of an office building with ample parking and close to a bus stop. More importantly Nueve Salon is where Anjalee works her magic. She is a delightful person who actually listens before commencing work. Although she had never styled our hair before she was able to discern our needs after a few questions and a wash and combing. Previously we had our hair styled on Boston's Newbury Street so we expect the best from our stylist. Anjalee exceeded our wildest expectations. She is an artist who relies almost solely on scissors and a passion for perfection. read more

She called me back and scheduled an appointment with me for the following day for 5pm. And let me tell you... she was right on time! Love her! So fast, so friendly. She did a great job on my hair! As far as the salon goes, there is free parking downstairs and also metered street parking if all the stalls are taken. As far as I've heard, all the stylists here are great. The location, right in Kakaako, is convenient for those in town. Worth the drive. One warning, though: they may not answer the phone. I think a lot of the stylists give out their own personal numbers in order to schedule appointments. Check their website for the information. I've had many facials and am very picky because of that. thankfully, Kristin's facial was great. She is very attentive and takes her time. I wanted to do my haircut and color but turns out there was not enough time for coloring. I settled for getting a haircut first, as I am in desperate need of some chopping action. Free parking downstairs! This was a relief. I hate finding street parking. The salon is in Kakaako and pretty easy to find. I showed Anjalee some photos on pinterest of how I may want bangs and we worked something out. I got longer bangs than anticipated, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. I chopped off over 6 inches of hair - yay! I would have liked to go shorter but Anjalee recommended that longer layers be better for "weighing down" my hair so it doesn't get as poofy. :) read more

I am usually the most difficult to pin down on what it is I want done so I ask for suggestions. She has never steered me wrong! She also seems to have her finger on the pulse of what is current as well as what might be the best style for her clients. Bottom line, Linnea is awesome! As for the salon itself, it is very clean and welcoming (even to our very energetic 2 year old son)! Ok, so, like most young-ish women, my long hair is my safety net. BUT I came to grips that 90 percent of my mane was absolutely dead and I needed a good chop. I found Nueve Salon & Spa through a Groupon and after seeing all the positive Yelp reviews, I just couldn't pass on it. I booked an appointment with Cindy (she's quite busy so don't wait!) and told her I wanted all my dead ends cut off. I haven't had hair shorter than my boob-area (is there a better term for this haha) since I was 16 after a traumatic hair cut. Cindy did an AMAZING job with my hair. She chopped all the dead ends off and made it look flattering and cute for my very round face. Cindy is super sweet as well and easy to talk to. Monet is absolutely amazing!! I've been scared to go anywhere to get my hair done since I moved here 2.5 months ago, but my roots were awful. I am a natural ash blonde who went really dark brown last Nov. and am now working my way back to ash blonde....after two rounds of blonde highlights before leaving the main land, and a couple months of growth, it was well over due. Along came an amazing groupon deal, for $49, color or highlight, cut and conditioning treatment....that and the fact that it's right across the street from my doggie daycare, I decided to give it a shot. To my surprise, Monet is from Colorado, my hometown, and she knows how to color white girl hair....something that is rare here- even if you wouldn't think it. She weaved lots of ash blond highlights in my hair and it looks fantastic, almost back to my original color!! And she cut the dead ends off and even added some long layers to give my long hair some texture and movement. I will defiantly be going back, I found my new salon! But if you have a busy schedule or someplace to be after your scheduled appointment, I would not come here. We confirmed the night before on our appointment time but only one side felt the need to honor this. Waited unacknowledged by 3 staff for 20 mins until I finally texted the hairdresser, Anjalee. Claiming you did not see the customer is not an excuse... 25 minutes after my scheduled appointment time you would at least look up from your work to see if your next customer is there instead of waiting for them to come look for you.
