I went to get my car inspected at the Autosmith the other day. Not because I heard good things…read more(just the opposite), but because I was feeling lazy and the Autosmith is close. They inspected it right away, and found that I needed new springs in the front--they said mine were broken. Their two options to fix the issue would have cost me approximately $615 (the "cheap" option) to $665. Well, folks, Tracey Phelps doesn't have $700 kickin' around, so I got a second opinion. My boyfriend, Jake, took a gander at the springs and being a car guy, noticed that the springs WEREN'T BROKEN AT ALL. The paint was peeling off, but otherwise totally fine! He then told me that the Autosmith tried to rip him off in the past and that I should head over to Bob's Auto in Essex. All in all, it cost me $65 for an oil change and inspection at Bob's Auto, as opposed to ten times that at Autosmith for work that I didn't even need. I know Autosmith is trying to expand and pay for their new stuff, but can they give their neighbors a break? I can't afford to pay for your new shop, and neither can most of us in this cruddy recession.

I was glad to see they found an issue in my front end (go figure with the wonderful roads in VT) while doing the oil change. It cost a bit more than a free oil change, but was certainly reasonable and the service was very prompt. On top of that, on even SHORTER notice, they welded a rusted-out exhaust pipe that might have broken on the first bump on the three-hour drive home in my new-to-me auto. So I was able to drive home stress free. And they charged me a very reasonable price. KUDOS to the three generations of Stones running that place. It is a very, very busy business. My family took all our vehicles here till we realized the service was no longer great, the work was below sub-par, they smoke IN customer vehicles and are on drugs that aren't marijuana constantly. Not only that but they aren't even BBB accredited anymore! Save your money and your vehicle and just go to ANYWHERE else. Essex has some great auto professionals, but this isn't one.

Every time they have done a great job! Located right next to my work so the commute there is very easy! This is owned by a father/son team. Both of them are very good at what they do! They also seem to have a lot of jobs to do. I will continue to go for my oil changes and tire rotations until my service contract is up with my car! So for the simple things these guys are great! I will report back in when the car needs some major work done and I can get it done here! 4/5! They are easy to deal with!

Recently i have spent 4k plus on my vehicle to only have issue after issue. First it was only one wheel barren gone to find out it was both. Told us it was driver side but was both. Then it's bring the truck in Tpms sensors for my aftermarket summer wheels they used a short socket on a tall lug nut Damaging them In the spring. They did order new lug nuts however not what I originally had and didn't care for them. then bring my car in for summer tires and an inspection then cancelled the inspection few days prior ( we cancelled as I had a crack in my windshield knew it would not pass) and ask them to replace a tpms sensor while doing the work. They do the inspection even though we cancelled it and did not put the sensor in so they had to pull it back in. Then in the fall bring truck back in to put stock wheels on for the winter they put the aftermarket lug not on the stock wheels. when stock lug nuts where sitting in the floor of the truck. Which I did not mention where there but a mechanic should know you can not put after market lug nits in stock wheels. As was admitted by the service manager you can not do that. We en up having to change them ourself in the dark in our driveway as we needed the truck for morning. Then the truck goes in and 2300 dollars for a brake job to be done this spring all new parts and e- break parts and they scratch the shit out of my rear driver side door to the point it needs to be repainted and they use touch up paint to cover it up and basically say good enough and the rear fender panel has some damage That they buffed out That looks ok. this place seems to be headed down hill not sure what happened. I have had multiple Conversations with the service manager and we even had a conversation with Brain the owner. With admitting there was a issue with one person but said they have delt with and we are still experiencing issues.

I changed the filter myself, but went back to them, explained the situation and requested they change the oil-soaked belt belt. They could not accommodate me for several days, despite their mistake. As I drove less than a mile to another garage, the serpentine belt broke, wrapped around the shaft, got sucked through the the front seal, filled the engine with rubber, and destroyed the engine. $7,000 for a rebuild; $10,000 for a new one.
