I do not usually take the time to write a review but when service is exceptional it's important. My muffler/exhaust was hanging to the ground Monday May 18th. I called Master Tech and Keith said bring it right in. I got there at 8:30 am and they put on lift and pulled off the muffler so I could get to work and bandaged up the exhaust so they could order a new muffler. Keith called mid afternoon and was unable to find a muffler for my Volvo which would have been $650 plus. He welded and fixed it like it was new and the charge was 1/4 the price. He is a family man/people person as I witnessed when he showed me a video of his daughters singing. He was proud showing the video as he appears proud of his mechanical skills saving customers time and money. I will be back because there is no reason to not have Master Tech Auto service your car!! I was in Vermont for a shopping trip with my friend, when I had very unexpected car trouble in the Costco parking lot. We were given the name of a local shop, but they were unable to come to our assistance, and they recommended another local business, Master Tech Automotive. Keith listened to my issue, made a suggestion, and when I couldn't resolve the issue on my own, I called him back. He came to the rescue very quickly, identified the problem, fixed it efficiently and we were on our way. He was friendly and professional. I've been bringing my Jeep here for a year and I guess it's time to do a review. Fast, competent or cheap -- you can pick two. That's a saying I hear a lot and from my experience it sees the world in black and white - no shades of gray. Master Tech has a good scheduling system that doesn't suffer from time management issues. If they say they can fit you in tomorrow your car will be worked on tomorrow. That doesn't mean it will be done tomorrow because they are professionals who know vehicles and something might come up that needs more time. They will consult and if you choose to proceed give you a priority in the work queue. With 5 bays going all day long keeping things moving along and keeping everyone happy is a good trick. The loaner cars are a great feature when things end up taking a while. Competence -- My first experience with them was when my "regular" mechanic couldn't figure out what was wrong with the transmission on my new to me Jeep. Master Tech ended up taking it to the local transmission shop where they had advanced diagnostics tools and were able to nail down the problem and present me with the only solution - rebuild the transmission. Second go round was the "Death Wobble" a know issue with Jeeps that my now "ex regular" mechanic charged me $700 to fix and made worse. Master Tech replaced different parts of the front end and fixed it. Finally I was looking for a skilled welder to fix some frame rot on my Jeep. Keith the owner did it himself, did a wonderful job, and swore he would never do that again because it was so time consuming. Which brings us to price. These guys are competent, they get you in on schedule and no one is standing around drinking coffee. I didn't see anyone driving Jaguars or Ferraris either. They charge for the hours worked and the hourly rate is clearly displayed. I've paid them a lot of money, but for everything I paid for I got a competent repair. My "ex mechanic" charges $30/hr less... On the frame welding I was given a quote of "less than $1000". I heard the owner spent the majority of 3 days on it but kept to his quote. I don't like spending this kind of money on my transportation but I think I can blame myself for purchasing a used Jeep that had so much wrong with it, not Master Tech who has worked with me to get it straightened out. Next time I buy a used car I'll bring it to Master Tech first. read more

I recently brought my 07 Toyota Rav here for a engine light that was on. Master tech worked hard to figure out what was going on and properly diagnosing it and fixing it quickly. There friendly and knowledgeable staff not only took care of my car but made sure I could could still get to work with a loaner car. We all know how hard it is to find a great mechanic and one that you feel comfortable enough to trust when it comes to your vehicle. So the place I usually go (Bouchard and Son) was booked the whole week and I needed to change out my winter tires. (I'm from California, so please excuse my ignorance on needing to schedule a week ahead during this time of the year). So after doing my research I called up several other places with high ratings. All were booked except Master Tech. According to the 9 or so Google reviews, this place was a 5 star spot. But if you take a look at their website, the reviews correspond to their "testimonials" and each of the reviewers only had that sole review for Master Tech. And I thought it odd they had no reviews on yelp. Anyways, the good thing was that they have a lender car program in which they give you a car to drive around while yours is in the shop. Again, coming from California, in which this is not a common practice, I was surprised. (They just give you a car!?) In addition to needing my tires changed, I had a check engine light on and I wanted to test for a battery draw since my battery had died once over the winter. The prices were about average, if not a little above average for parts ($71 for a DPFE which you can find for anywhere from $30-60 yourself). I dropped my car off around 8:30am and they were done around 2:30pm (just to change the tires, replace the DPFE (which they charged $45 in labor just to have someone pull it out and plug a new one back in), and check the charging/battery). So I'm not sure what took so long. They also quoted me on some suggested fixes (totaling $1200) which seemed steeper than they should be (but they say they are using higher quality premium parts, which is sometimes true that you get what you pay for). My main complaint is that they charged $100 to have my check engine light read and EGR system tested. And an additional $30 to have my battery charging system checked. I think I have been spoiled since both my mechanics in California (which I found through yelp) and Bouchard and son (which is awesome, and was recommended by my medical school classmate) have checked my check engine lights and battery draw for free. In the end, this place is decent. They are competent but their prices are a little steeper in my opinion. And don't expect to get cut a break. It definitely wasn't worth driving all the way from south burlington to cholchester. Next time I'll be making appointments a week earlier at B&S. read more

I have been going to Master Tech for almost 7 years now, since I moved up to Vermont. I have had nothing but good experiences. They are always honest, their prices are reasonable, and they are never pushy. I ordered a clutch online, because mine needed to be replaced. It was the wrong size, so they couldn't install it (completely my fault for not triple checking). They ordered a new clutch for me, that was cheaper than the one I had brought in, and gave me a loaner car over the weekend while it was being worked on. The lengths even with it being my fault were incredible. I have a few times tried other garages that are more convenient, and have always had issues, a repair not being done correctly, or work being done that didn't need to be. Master Tech would need to be hours away for me to consider going to someone else again. The peace of mind I have knowing that the job will be done right, and at a good price is worth the small trek. read more

Horrible experience! They did unauthorized work on my car and were extremely rude and belligerent when I questioned them about it. They did not have my car ready when they said they would. Jason and Keith are great. I work in the car business and I bring my car to them. I have had a Head Gasket done on one car and transmission seals, control arms, tie rods and ball joints on another car. Recently, I thought I need front brakes (pads and rotors) and was prepared to spend ~$400. They inspected it and found out it was just a little low on fluid. Very happy with the service from them...only reason it didn't get 5 stars is its the place you want to drop off your car vs. waiting there for it...which is not a problem for me! read more

I have been a customer of Master Tech for a good number of years and have always been satisfied with the work they have done. I became a customer for a few reasons. Number one was that the previous mechanic I had used broke my main rule. Charge me whatever is necessary but make sure you fix it. He didn't !! Secondly when I became a Master Tech customer I lived about 2 miles away. Very Convenient. My initial interaction with them, other than inspections was an AC issue in a gen 1 Honda CRV. Once fixed they apologized profusely about the charges. They stated that there was an inordinate amount of labor because the actual issue was something behind the dash. An inexpensive item to complete the repair but a seemingly large amount of time to repair it. Because it was repaired and they were honest about it I was completely satisfied. I had a working AC. Luckily through the years I've had very few maintenance issues. Normal issues such as brakes and such and once again always felt as though I was treated fair. Where else can you go today and get a loaner any more. If not the loaner I've been offered a ride to where ever I needed to go. My most recent issue might make you think that it was time for a change. For well over a year I have had TPMS issues. This isn't just the low tire pressure problem, it's more of a sensor or sensor receiver issue. About 18 months ago I took it in for the annual inspection. At that time I had been having intermittent TPMS issues. Because it wasn't happening at the time of the inspection it did pass and I went on my merry way. Over time it became less intermittent and more permanent. This year when it went in for inspection I told them that it was on. While inspecting it they were able to clear the codes and the light went out. BOOM !!! It is now inspectable. Once again I am a happy customer. Sadly I wasn't far away when the light came back on. I was able to get it in again right away and they dug into it a bit deeper. Over the course of a week or so they tried several fixes with no real solution. Now comes the part that, FOR ME, once again makes me believe they are an honest company. Keith had tried all he could. He contacted the maker of the new senors he installed. He contacted the company that made the sensor tester. They all tried but to no avail. Instead of consuming his time and mine over this issue he contacted a repair place that he felt could help with the issue. After a couple of visits to the other garage the problem now seems solved. So to Keith and all the folks at Master Tech I once again thank you. Honesty and good work are requirements for me. I do feel like I have been treated above and beyond what other companies have to offer. Because you continue to respect me as a consumer I will continue to bring my vehicles to you for your continued support. read more
