I wanted to do a treatment for my hair so he did a special Japanese 5 Step treatment plan for textured/curly hair followed by a blow out! So being unfamiliar with his skills, I showed him a video of the cut I wanted and asked before booking an appointment if this is something he could do since what I wanted was not an easy ask. He said yes. My end result frankly looks nothing like what I showed him. I've had my hair colored before to cover my grays (admittedly about 7 years ago...before the pandemic). I never really did the highlighting thing (which is what Jun did this time around). I was instructed to purchase "purple shampoo" to ensure the highlights don't get too brassy. I went with a good brand (Paul Mitchell). I don't know if it were the highlighting or the shampoo but all I can say is that I started losing my hair (and we're talking half of my hair in a month's time span). I based this on how much thinner my ponytail's girth is compared to previously. I didn't have any chemical at the roots so I'm not entirely sure if the cause was the bleaching chemical used, the shampoo, stress and/or menopause (I should mention however that I went through menopause unusually early, 15 years ago at 43). I lost as much hair as I did shortly after having a baby. The difference then though is, I didn't lose any hair during the pregnancy; as such, by the end of my pregnancy, I had about 3 times the volume I normally do. So even though, I lost a lot of hair during this postpartum period, it wasn't as alarming as losing a lot of hair that wasn't voluminous to begin with. If you've ever been pregnant, you can relate to what I'm sharing. Now the average person would have given Jun a 1-star. I chose to give him a 3-star review because I cannot say with absolute certainty the cause of my hair loss was Jun's doing. I can only say it's an interesting coincidence that it happened the first time I washed my hair after visiting the salon. I stopped using the shampoo I purchased and it did not remedy the hair loss. My main criticism is that what I ended up with looks NOTHING like the video I showed him. He did a good job with the cut so even though I was disappointed, I didn't fret too much. Would I have paid $350 for what I got (cut, highlights, styling & gratuity)? No. But I gave him a decent tip regardless because he had stayed late to accommodate my sense of urgency. I had an event I was attending a couple of days later. So I coughed it up to lesson learned.
