This was mine and my bf's first time visiting this area. We originally came by to try the new Kavat Coffee shop nearby and decided to drop by this shopping center on the way home! We parked by the Target and walked into this plaza from there. Didn't even realize this was connected to the Target at all. We walked in and were greeted by the cutest and sweetest Korean lady. We shopped around and found some nice funkos that we took home, didn't even plan on buying anything, along with a Tomy Pokémon figure that you rarely see (Stunfisk)! Also, they were playing Dabin in the store, awesome music choice! Since we spent over a certain amount, the lady told us about their gift card offer. Basically buy a $50 gift card and get a $10 gift card for free or something and we were able to use it on our purchase that day and save whatever for next time. Cute little shop and great for gifts BUT I wouldn't buy anything from the little machines by the door since they're all bootleg figures and we learned that the hard way lol. I've been coming here for years even before the arrival of my daughter. I would pick up cute things for myself or friends. The lady that's there is always really nice and helpful. Today, I was walking by and the cutest cup noodle backpack and had to pick it up for my daughter. The lady went to the back room for a little bit and I had no idea why. Hey what's up yelpers? Hope my review finds you well. The following review of Mauya Island is broken up into different categories: product, environment, service, price and overall thoughts. Product: If you love Japanese anime culture you'll love this store. Tons of product from your favorite anime's: stuffed animals, pins, figurines, trading cards, funko pops, lunch boxes, key chains, etc. I was fortunate to purchase Pokémon cards when other retailers like Walmart, Target and other chains were sold out or have customers wait in line on Friday's. (5 stars) Environment: Mauya has plenty of retail space. Mauya is located in a less congested mall in the city of Eagle Rock smacked between two big cities (Glendale and Pasadena). The area outside the mall has its shady spots and also nicer areas like every city. But when I'm in the mall I feel safe. The mall is predominately shopped by Filipinos which made me feel like I was at a family reunion. (Half Filipino) (4 stars) Service: On arrival I was greeted with a smile and conversation with Julie. She was super kind. Her manager Kim was also kind and helpful. She explained the stamp card for returning customers, which ended up being beneficial. (5 stars) Price: The Pokémon cards were $2.00 above retail but totally understandable since that specific card game is trending dramatically especially since there is a shortage on how many cards are being made. (3 stars) Overall Thoughts: Mauya has plenty of cool items directed to those who enjoy the anime culture or want to embark in this culture. Julie and Kim were awesome! Located inside the Eagle Rock Mall, this little shop provides Hello Kitty items in all sizes and figures, nik-naks pens, pencils, erasers, stationaries, back-packs, t-shirts and more! ...not to mention tons of Japanese character bobble heads, action figures and those cute Japanese cartoon characters that we tend to see on TV! I came out of this store with a cool Panda J9 T-shirt! Part android-part panda! Petty cool shirt and comfortable too! Prices are reasonable and although a tad short-handed in peeps I still got a pretty good customer service. Every time I go to Eagle Rock Plaza for eating, shopping, or just looking/going out, I always drop by a this place at least once! They have cute collections; Anime, Funko, Disney, and even Korean/KPop merchandise! It's is a bit more pricey compared to other stores like the Tokyo Japanese Lifestyle, but I love their variety of choices they have to choose. I got a few items from there and they always gave great service. They even have a nice reward system if you consistently buy stuff from there. Don't expect to get good items cheap here, because the quality of their products were really good and well-maintained. If that accounts for the higher price then I'll all for it! read more

I think that some of the products are a little too expensive but some of the products are less then what you buy at a different store.Now I'm going to focus on the product of the slimes there. When i bought 2 of them the price was affordable,but when i got it 1 was dried up and over activated which means that it wasn't slime and was breaking apart. The other one was a clear one with little fruit pieces in the slime but it was really sticky and it got stuck to everything when I tried to play with it. I love this store. They have a lot of collectible trinkets from Japan that most stores don't sell. The prices will be set a bit higher, but its convenient and accessible when I'm in the mood for grabbing cute little hello kitty or toki doki stuff. read more

This place is awesome if you love Hello Kitty and cute things! I love how they added Kpop products as well. Everytime I come here, I almost always buy something. This is a typical Asian store, jam-packed with cute accessories and shit you don't need but find yourself desperately wanting. Whale-shaped computer mouse? Get that here. Weird horizontally striped plush cat pencil case? They have it (and I got it). Impractical but insanely adorable phone covers and charms? Obviously. I love this place and most stores like it. Sometimes the employees follow you around and try to push you into buying stuff you don't need, but usually they're just friendly and polite and allow you to browse before you inevitably find that one item you never knew you needed, but now you can't live without. read more

This is the best place to hunt for my 2year old niece`s presents! and the cheapest place for the car freshners and my favorite vinyl figures! Anyway i bought my niece a hello kitty bento box and water bottle. The girls who work there are all so sweet! They are so helpful. I am so amazingly happy this place is still going strong. Ever since Sanrio left Eagle Rock Plaza AND Glendale Galleria, it's so difficult to find my whimsical, silly, and often times, kitschy Asian stationary. With KPOP blasting in their speakers, I love that Mauya Island not only carry a variety of Hello Kitty and Sanrio stationary and accessories, they also have generic, but still SUPER CUTE Korean and Japanese characters that grace pencils, pens, notebooks, and more. My current favorite is their sushi character line, because you really can't go wrong with a pirate octopus plush. ^_^ Also, there are photobooth for your purikura needs as well as Skull candy headphones and accessories, if you feel overwhelmed by all the pinks and pastels. And! What's even better is they now have a section of basic Korean beauty products, such as face masks (you can treat your skin in aloe vera or vitamin c. YES. THANK YOU.), nail polish, Biore like nose strips, and foot peels. If you can't find what you're looking for at Target, you can probably find a temporary beauty fix here. There's a lot of Hello Kitty items along with tons of little Japanese items..such as air fresheners, tiny little shampoos, pens, pencils, backpacks, cell phone accessories, candy! I came here specifically for the Korean/Japanese beauty products. Mainly face masks because I am obsessed with the wonders they have done for my skin. I walked in and was overwhelmed( in a good way) by the plethora of Hello Kitty products. They have the cutest things for gifts and stationary things. Any-who the lady showed me to the beauty product section where the masks were and sadly they have a really small selection:( only one brand of mask that I'm not familiar with, but I still bought them because they were really cheap and the lady said they worked good. The deal was $1.49 each or 10 for $10. So I got ten since I use them so much. When I got home I researched the product and thankfully it has gotten good reviews. I happen to browse items from the adjacent game store and saw the SAME PRODUCT for only $12. Love this place always go here for gifts or cute things for myself. They have the most unique stuff that you won't find in any other store. Lots of cute handmade Korean stuff which makes this like no other. A lot of other Asian stores have everything made in China but this store isn't like that. The lady there is always very nice and greets when you come in and helps you. I know some things are a bit over priced but if you look in the back it says made in Korea so I know it's worth paying for bc all imported things are more expensive plus there's no way you will be able to find or purchase most of the made in Korea stuff unless u go online to the authentic Korean website and buy stuff with Korean money. I really like this store alot. It's all so cute and has everything I like! I bought some of my attack on titan drawing books there, and just yesterday I bought a chibi L figure . ^.^ I got him for $23! I think I scored because usually those figurines would cost $40-60. Even though some stuff is overpriced, if you look real good you might be able to get things for a pretty good deal. Some guy followed me around the whole time to make sure I wasn't stealing then when I rang up my purchases the cashier lost my card on purpose why they reviewed the security tapes right in front of me to make sure I didn't steal?!!! I literally had to pick up the mouse pad and say you put my card under there.... she apologized profusely, after I confronted her about her behavior. If i could give this store 0 stars i would. First of all, we were treated as if we were going to steal things because the lady kept an eye on us when there were other people in the store. Excuse me, but we know better!! Secondly, she greeted all the other customers with a hello while my cousin and i were ignored when we first stepped in. If you are not of asian descent, then you will be ignored and treated as if you are going to steal things because you will be followed and kept an eye on, so the bottom line is we will not be returning. We can find cute supplies for school, plushies, more kpop merchandise, and other things that this store has to offer at a better place where they will know how to treat customers!! read more

THIS IS A RATING BASED ON COSTUMER SERVICE not the facility or products themselves . I came in with my little sister and she was showing me all the things she wanted for her birthday and as we walk around the lady working there was following. Us with her eyes..and when I dropped an item I picked it up and she quickly went to it and fixed it because I guess I put it on backwards . Whatever not the worst of it. So I come back a week later to get the stuff for my sister , I get there 30min before openin because I needed to go to work soon and when she opens I ask "hi can I come in?" She doesn't answer . I ask again politely but a little louder because I thought maybe she didn't hear me ," hi excuses me can I go inside your store ??" Nothing ...she's actually ignoring me. So I walk in because I still have to buy what I need to , again I'm watched like a hawk. I'm a petit Hispanic and I was wearing tights and a crop top and didn't have anywhere to put anything so even I wanted to steal something I couldn't . Anyways so I realized have a bag with me from Payless and I walk up to her while she's at the register, she's right across from me and I say "oh do you want me to leave my bag up here?" SHE LOOKS AT ME AND SAYS NOTHING and so my friend that was with me says very loudly "wow she's really ignoring you." And I say "yeah , hey I'm gonna buy something if that will make you be a little nicer to me" .
