En route to picking up a friend to take her to an urgent doctor's appointment I got a flat tire. I was near Mavis and went there right away. When I explained the situation, and how I needed to pick up a friend in a half hour, the person whom I presume is the manager was unbelievably kind and got a mechanic to immediately fix my flat. Luckily I called the day before because when I called my usual go to Mavis, some other guy who must of been new, didn't even bother to give a discount being that I been there several times especially when I bought all 5 tires there. Showed up to Riverdale and it's very spacious. Went on a Sunday, 3 cars ahead of me and I was in and out less then an hour. Tires... especially all Four truck tires, are not a Bill you look forward to fitting especially during the holidays. However, safety is important especially when dealing with the schizophrenia of Mother Nature during a NY winter. Basically, I didn't have a choice and elected to just rip off the band-aid and get it over with. So this is how I spent my Saturday afternoon, getting new shoes for my baby. Came here based on recommendation of a mechanic. What I didn't know was how much time it would take. Was told 1.5-2 hours, still sitting in the waiting room 4 hours later and I don't expect to be out of here anytime soon as I'm looking at my car untouched to compete the alignment process. As I watched them working on the tires, I had to correct them because I requested the front tires move to the back and the new tires to the front. Glad I caught that. DANGER!!! Do not use! I scheduled a NY State Inspection, tire rotation, and tire examination due to TPS light on December 23. On Sunday, December 27, while traveling on highway there was a crunching sound and my brakes stopped working. I made it to the side of the road ok. I had my car towed off the highway ($203.73) to a local repair shop as I was 80 miles from home. No visible damage underneath but the brakes didn't work neither the emergency brakes. After two days, I got an estimate after investigation by Right on Point Automotive in Salt Point, NY. Here is the literal mechanic's description of the issues (I would post a picture of the actual bill, but Yelp does not allow attachments.): -Check noises from rear of car while driving, car unsafe to drive -found lug stud broke off on r/r wheel and lug stud fell inside rear drum and caused damage to parking brake shoes and destroyed all parking brake components, had to use excessive force to remove the 5 other remaining stripped out lug studs that were holding the rear wheels on, 2 total rear lug studs and lug nuts were replaced on drivers side rear, replaced pass. Side rear brake drum also so car would be drivable for customer. Still needs parking brake components fixed on pass. Rear tire. (Labor: $442.73, Parts: $128.24) The $98 tire repair and inspection from Mavis turned into a $700+ repair that is not even done yet as I have more to fix. Mavis stripped 5 studs and nuts on my tires which needed to be replaced. Because of their unprofessional repair, my car then went into an emergency at 65 MPH bc Mavis broke a stud and didn't bother to fish it out and fix it. How do you remove and replace a tire and not notice a broken stud???? PS I have all parts that were replaced...again, I would show pic of stripped studs but Yelp doesn't allow images on reviews. ordered tires and scheduled appointment super past . work was done within 2 hrs. new tires alignment and balancing all paid for. alignment was and balancing were both way off. took it back to them 3 time and still didn't get it right. had to to take it to another mavis store to fix the alignment and balancing with I had to pay for again. never again will I go back to this mavis shop. purchased many tires from mavis and this was the first and only time there was an issue. read more

Brought the car in for an oil change and new brakes/sensors Mechanics couldn't perform a basic oil change and the car broke down on the highway - full on DRIVE TRAIN MALFUNCTION . Brake sensors were not installed correctly and brake light remained on. Good luck trying to get any type of solution or money back. A lot of other options in the area who are less expensive, perform better work and won't take as long to repair. Really low level of workmanship. read more

I had a flat tire and upon inspecting found a screw in the tread. I haven't had a flat in over 20yrs (for which I am grateful ) so I wasn't sure where to go to have it fixed. My brother suggested a tire place so I thought of Mavis, though I'd never been. These guys were so polite, explained my options well, and fixed my tire in about a half hour! And it was $20.67!!! They explained they do a plug and a patch together which should last the life of the tire. The rationale for both makes sense even to mechanics I have spoken to, as in the past most had said a plug is not good. I went when they opened so they weren't too crowded, keep in mind that plays a role in how long you wait. These guys were excellent, and so far the tire is as good as new. Shout out to Mavis discount tire Center which save me a trip going all the way to New Jersey. I went to another mom and pop tire place in the Bronx in which a call before hand and asked if they had a Michelin tire specifically for my vehicle in which they stated yes and I made my way there coming all the way from Manhattan. Upon arriving at this mom and pop shop they tried to give me a tire called "Presa" which I know nothing of the brand but they said they had the tire I called for in which this wasted my time. My brother did a Google search for me and found this Mavis discount tire center 20 minutes from where I was that the mom and pop shop I called in and ask for the Michelin (245/40 R18 XL) the young lady stated that they had the tire available and I said I will be on my way. Upon arriving there were two cars already on the left one car in front of me and I was next up there was only an hour wait only because there were two guys in the shop and one of them went on break but it was raining and it's a Sunday so I didn't mind the time as long as the tire I was looking for was available in which it was. The young lady I spoke to was very knowledgeable and explained to me the difference is between a run flat tire and a regular tire and help me make the right choice in picking the correct tire for my vehicle which was a good look. I got my tire replaced because the one I had on had a slow leak I also got the insurance for the tire which is really good and she explained the benefits to me when I return to get the other sets as well, I will be returning to get those tires put on the rest of the vehicle slowly but surely and I will make this my go to place to get anything else done in regards to wheels and tired. read more

I brought my car in to get four new tires put on. The tires had been sent to them. I made a 9am appointment and when I got here was told there were no reservations; it was first come, first serve. I was told it would take 2-21/2 hrs. I called corporate customer service and was told my reservation didn't go through , maybe it was a glitch. I did get an email reminder about the reservation. At 10:45 when was in the bay but not on the lift, I was it would be another 2-2 1/2 hours. I would stay away from here if you have a chance read more

straight to the point. I don't leave any reviews but they deserve my time to write and advise the consumers. The communication from the call center, main office, etc. whoever, takes the appointments and orders over the phone and sends it to the shop sucks! The combination of messing up my tire order and the appointment was a total of three times. not once or twice. 3 freaking times!!! I went to my appointment today to get all 4 tires changed and only two were in stock. when I made the appointment over the phone they were 100% sure that all tires were in stock in that location. I wasted my time going over there for nothing. now I have to wait 2 days for the other 2 tires. they failed in communication. I actually like coming to this location, for the most part they get things done well. But the manager with the grayish hair and glasses has a serious attitude problem. I came in after experiencing a flat this morning. The mechanic working on my tire couldn't find a nail or any other source of the leak, and suggested taking the tire apart to investigate further. For some unknown reason, the manager came by and didn't let him take apart my wheel from the tire to see why it's leaking air. In his words "if nothing's wrong then nothings wrong, put it back." Literally did not care to help one bit. Not the first time I've noticed his attitude but beware when dealing with him. Dude clearly wakes up on the wrong side of bed most mornings. FYI I waited an hour and a half for practically no resolution, so now I have to take my car elsewhere to figure this out. read more

Absolutely awful service. I took my car in for a simple oil change. Because Mavis doesn't do this as a part of their service, I also asked them to rotate the tires and top off all the fluids. I was scheduled to take a road trip two days after the oil change. I get to the George Washington Bridge and go to break and the break pedal goes right to the floor. So I pull off at the closest Mavis and it turns out I have a broken brake line. But upon looking at the brake lines, the one that broke was clearly warped and tampered with. I took photos and submitted them to Mavis corporate. I was charged to have the brake line fixed but then proceeded to call Mavis corporate to explain the situation and tell them that something needs to be done. The repair cost $300, but it could've been a lot worse than that. We'll see what happens. Then while on the road, the "oil change needed soon" alert came on in my car. Come to find out the tires we're not rotated, the fluids were not topped off, and Lord knows if they even actually did the oil change because failed reset the oil life alert. This has got to be the worst job anybody has ever done on my car. Literally, just thankful I did not die. read more

Mavis has been my go to place for tires and other repairs for years. I think Harry, the main manager there, is the very best shop manager around. He's always professional. However, recently I had all 4 tires replaced (not an inexpensive service). Unfortunately, for the first time in my life I refused the extended tire warranty --big mistake. Less than 2 weeks later I had a flat. Mavis CS (Harry was on vacation) just said there wasn't anything they could do. I thought, if Mavis is going to charge me to just to fix a flat on a new tire, well, I may as well go to my local service station. After all, Mavis said it would be up to 2 hours before they would get to my car (and I know it would have been much longer). So, when my local mechanic checked my tires (it took about 45 mins or so) he said that who ever had installed the tires hadn't tightened the stems. Not just on the side with the flattened tire but, on both front tires. That could have ruined both tires and been very costly indeed. I wondered, "would Mavis have even acknowledged their mistake?" My local shop, Tyrone32, tightened the stems, didn't charge me anything and I was off and running. Thanks Orlando! read more
