Update: since writing my review; I've been contacted by upper management whom actually understand the philisophy of sticking to what you tell a customer. I feel confident that he understood the reasons behind my frustration and that the employee whom I had encounter with will be trained on how to not yell at customers, recommend they go elsewhere and how to say what you mean and mean what you say. It was refreshing to know that my business with multiple cole mufflers is valued. When Carlos worked there my first experience was as great as my first experience with the location upstate. But on my second visit it was most horrible experience ever. Women be aware you will not be taken seriously when you ask about time frame to get things done. I ordered my tires and scheduled an appointment for 1 pm over the phone two days prior to coming to Mavis to get four tires replaced with brand new tires. The tires were 90.00 each online plus they had a buy 4 get 1 free special. When I spoke with the guy on the phone before scheduling the appointment he confirmed the price and the BUY 4 get 1 FREE sale for me and assured me that they would take care of everything when I arrive at the shop. So two days pass..I visit Mavis at 12:45 pm and speak to the manager. He finds my order on the computer and pushes me to get a wheel alignment and balance package.. so I agree to it. I ask if I could pay for everything before the work is done or if I could get the cost before hand and he refuses to give it to me.I ask if the tires I order do in fact have the BUY 4 get 1 FREE rebate and he answers YES I will give you that at the end after you pay. At this point I'm still in a good mood.. and I'm thinking well the alignment is only 70.00 and balancing 50.00 and I got my tires for under 90.00 after my buy 4 get 1 free special....not bad. So I hand the guy my keys and point to my car. He tells me they will get started right away. I wait 30 minutes..an hour...2 hours and my car continues to sit in their parking lot. They didn't take my car in until 3 pm!! ( So I'm thinking, Why in the world did I bother making a 1 pm appointment?!) But I'm still optimistic, plus my boyfriend accompanied me so I had his company and it didn't feel so bad. TWO HOURS roll by and they still haven't finished working on my car. Finally they finished working around 5:45/6pm. I go to pay for the work and it all comes out to 618.00 ( thats not including the warranty that I paid for which was an additional 56.00 = 674.00) At this point I was just tired, frustrated and I just wanted to get home on my day off so I paid took my rebate form and left. When I arrived home I thoroughly looked over my bill and it turns out the tires were 108.99 each (NOT 90.00) and the rebate was no longer BUY 4 get 1 FREE BUT buy 4 get $70.00 mail-in rebate......... My suggestion to you is DO NOT USE THESE GUYS ; THEY ARE SCAMMERS. read more

I've been going here for two years now and at first it was basic, nothing new like every other mavis, Goodyear etc. yesterday I called to schedule an oil change. They said they only do walk ins which I thought was kind of ridiculous, walk-in's should be second to people who actually call and make appointments as everywhere else. Second I asked what time is best for me to come in to avoid the hassle of waiting for me to be seen. He said come in when we open at 8 am. And so I did just that, woke up early and drove 30 minutes just to make sure I wouldn't wait. I told the guy at the counter that I have to be out by 9:30 MAX. Somehow I was still forced to wait an hour. I asked how long it would be, he said take my keys and go, come back later. I come back at a little before 1. The same guy gives me an attitude for asking how long will I have to wait now before my car is serviced. He starts to give me a nasty attitude and says "I don't know why you're arguing with me" as if I'm about to pick a fight for calming asking how long it'll be (which is understandable when this is my second trip of the day in the middle of a work day in order to get this done). Thankfully they manage to get to my car quickly but when I ask to watch the oil being changed, something I've done at this mavis before (the rude attitude had me a little panicked that someone might mess with my car as some places have done, not saying this place would do that). They told me I can watch from outside although it's freezing and standing outside the garage would not let me see anything. I decided to take my keys back and find a different place to get my oil changed elsewhere for a better price than $34. read more

Given the circumstances, I received great service getting my tires changed at this place and the guys were all really cool! I read reviews about how people would have to wait to have their car serviced even if they made an appointment. So, I was smart about it; I called ahead enough times and started with making an appointment by calling the 800#. The deal seemed too good to be true for the quality of tire! I accepted it and made an appointment at 3pm the next day. Rather than just trust all was good and well and I could have my car brought in and serviced right at 3pm AND that I wasn't scammed on the deal, I called the tire shop the next morning to verify my appointment and the price. I received confirmation, however, they told me the tires probably wouldn't be there for a half hour maybe an hour after my appointment time. Ok, no biggie. I asked if I could bring my car in a little later when I was off work versus having my boyfriend bring them in (that was the original plan). The guy, Ulysses, said he'd be there all day and to call a half hour before I can bring them in to see how busy they were so I could avoid waiting. I called when I was off work and he said they'd been dead for a couple hours, but to call again when I got home just to make sure. Called 30 minutes later when I was home and it turns out a bunch of cars came in. Ulysses said if I brought my car in in an hour, they'd service it right then, which is exactly what happened! Brought my car in and it was up being serviced within 15 minutes. However, slight issue occured: the guy who originally placed my tire order at their 800#, Rich, took my vehicle info and gave me a quote for the wrong tire size. I'm also 90% percent positive I gave him my tire size on the phone and that I didn't give him the wrong size because I'd been tire shopping other sites online awhile at that point. The tires he ordered were $25 cheaper each than the same tires in the size I needed. Ulysses was kind enough to lower the price for the correct tire size down by $20, and give me a 25% discount on an alignment given the circumstance. Thankfully, the tires in my size were in stock at the store! It was extremely frustrating to finally make it there and realize one, I may have to do this all over again, and two, the guy on the phone had two sources of information to get my tires right, and messed that up. Either way, Ulysses fixed the situation and Lou made sure the job got done (Lou was also great! Sure, he tried to sell me a warranty on the tires, but who wouldn't?? I was there in the first place because I drove over a bolt that pierced my tire... if it happened again the next day I'd be SOL! Not that I purchased a warranty. Anyway, the guy has a great sense of humor.) I was in and out in a little over an hour. We watched them do all the work from outside and these guys really know their tire business. They're not lazy and don't appear to cut corners! I was nervous they'd cut a corner and charge me for an alignment without actually doing it if I walked away (you just never know...), so I looked up the process online (I've never actually seen someone do an alingment before). I did end up walking around a few blocks to pass some time, and when I returned they were doing my alignment in the garage on the far left. From what I could tell, the machine blocks attached to my wheels (which Lou claimed do alien mathematical work, ha) were what the internet claimed a mechanic would use to do an alignment if they had the latest and greatest equipment. So I scored here! For the price and quality of work, people should be a bit smarter about how they get an appointment rather than blame everything on some guys who are probably underpaid working in a tiny tire shop with a tiny parking lot that probably has a greater demand for service than it can handle; and opt to complain less, just saying. Since most people won't do this because most people are self-righteous idiots with expectations higher than the Empire, it'd help the tire shop to call people who have appointment that present time issues (like if your guys know someone won't be serviced within 15 minutes of an appointment time) and to present realistic time expectations. As a person within the professional realm of marketing, you could offer a small discount if someone isn't served within X amount of time of their appointment and people may feel a bit more justified with waiting and talk less bull* online. A guaranty of some sort. End of story: I would definitely come here again, but hopefully, don't need to. read more

Me and my boyfriend decided two weeks ago that we would make travel to New York City. I've always lived in Gaithersburg Maryland my entire 35 years of my life and have never visited New York. Yes deprived oh, I get it. But we made travels out there what do you know tire completely pops once arrived and the closest place to me conveniently within walking distance was this company. 0 stars- avoid this location if you see that the store manager "Russel" is still working there. I went in on May 4, 2014 looking to install a set of Michelin Pilot Super Sport's on a new set of wheels for my 2010 BMW 535i Sport. After them explaining that these tires are next to impossible to get(fluff-tirerack.com shows instant availability) they sold me on trying Cooper Zeon RS3-A tires with a 30-day window to exchange for the tires of my liking if I wasn't happy with them. It took all but 1 day to realize that I was not happy with the grip and handling characteristics these all-season tires offered relative to the summer tires I both wanted to buy, and that the car came equipped with. On May 5, 2014 I return to the store and speak with Russel regarding the tires and that I'd like either the Pilot Super Sports or Continental Extreme Contacts D/W's instead of the Cooper's, we settle on the Pilot Super Sports and that he'll call me and notify me of any price changes and when they should come in. Thursday May 8, 2014 Russel calls me and notifies me of the price difference that they should be in "sometime next week" but he'll call me back with an exact arrival date. The call never came. This morning, Tuesday May 13, 2014 , I stop by to ask about the tire arrival. Russel tells me there is an issue with my exchange in that my car originally came equipped with Run Flat tires and that the only tire they can put on my car is Run Flat. Clearly this wasn't the case when he sold me the Cooper tires which are not Run flat's. Here's where it gets good, good as in bad and ugly, he literally behaved like a classic dirtbag of a thug when I was frustrated and told him I do not want Run Flat tires and all I want are the tires that I originally wanted. I asked him to show me in writing the part of the agreement that strictly limits me to run-flats for my car, he refused which compounded my frustration. I told him that fine I'll be back shortly with the car to return the Cooper Tires, he told me he can't take them back nor get me tires other than run flats. He denies that my car came in with run flats, in which I showed him photos of the tires I drove in with disproving his claim. I reminded him that on the day of purchase he clearly said that if I'm not happy with these tires he'll order the tires that I wanted and all I had to do was pay the difference, and that what he's pulling now is clearly bull-shit and he's trying to sell me on a run-flat tire which I DO NOT want on MY CAR which is why I purchased 4 new tires to begin with. He aggressively told me to watch my mouth, I reminded him that he cannot tell me how to speak and I told him to not correct my speech and if he's uncomfortable with my language (the word bull-shit) he can ask me to leave and I'll comply or he can leave. This is where he grabbed a tire iron, sucked his teeth and locked his jaw and told me to leave. I felt for a few seconds as if I was going to be attacked by a meth addict on a street corner for $20. I questioned his antics and he smiled it off, I asked him to remove the item from his hand and he hesitantly obliged. I again asked him to just get me the tires I wanted and to stop playing games and everything will be fine, and if he didn't there would be for him, his manager and his company. He goes off the grid again like a druggie asking me if I'm threatening him physically, I said of course I'm not threatening you physically which is why I said "you, your manager and your company". This is when he told me to leave and never come back unless he calls me, that's when I left and called Mavis Customer Satisfaction Hotline. I promptly notified them of these horrible experience, I was assured my complaint would go directly to the regional rep of the area and I'd get a call today (May 13, 2014). I'm currently waiting on the callback, I will update here on any progress with this terrible experience at this particular location with this particular manager. As a side note, they also scratched my rims around the lug holes during installation. The rims were brand new in box in brand new condition with zero blemishes before they touched it. read more

It was a sunday, I had a flat (and three well worn tires that I probably should have replaced months ago) and so my options were limited. I was kind of sad not to go to my regular mechanic but figured Mavis would be okay enough. What a pleasant surprise! The service was great, prices were reasonable (4 tires and an alignment for $503), and it moved quickly. Was out of there within an hour and a half or so. I'm taking off one star because of the slightly pushy sell on the tire protection (I had to say no like 10 times). All in all though: a great experience. read more

I visited the location for service in December 2012. I made an appointment online and picked out my new tires online. I went to drop off my car on the day of the appointment. The tires were exactly as stated and priced on the website. The service manager, Eddie A., recommended a tire balancing (cost me: $48 for all four 15" rim tires), and a wheel alignment (cost me: $79.99-$20 discount = $59.99). I brought my own oil+filter for the oil change (labor cost me: $15) . I asked for the free brake check & estimate (cost me: $0), but they did not find any problems. The tire hazard warranty (by tread depth) was offered so I took it ($10 per tire, cost me $40). They called me about 2-3 hours later and I came back to pick up the car. They left the unused oil bottles in my trunk. The tires have been fine from Dec. 2012 to now. Overall service was direct and to the point. I would return for free tire rotations, brake checks, oil change, wheel alignment, tire balancing, and when I purchase my next set of tires. read more

After placing this review I got an email from someone at Mavis corporate headquarters. They seemed genuinely concerned. I also called their 800 # and complained and got a call back from the regional manager. He wanted to know what he could do to make things right. I didn't want to push for too much, but I had declined the extended warranty because I couldn't see myself going back to that location, so I asked if he could give me the warranty and he said yes. I received a great price on two front tires for my Mercedes over the phone from the 800 number I agreed to the price and was informed to go over to the Utica ave shop to have them installed I arrived at 9:55 ! At 1 pm. I inquired. And was informed my car would be next . At 2:15. I asked for my keys back and left to use one of their competitors ( I will gladly pay a higher rate ) During the week I bill by the hour , so I'm very time sensitive . There is no way this business is making money ( time is money ). There is an issue with their time management !!! During my stay in the shop ( no television or anything to read ). This place really sucks went in for tire change after buying tires online then up sold me for other services . Had them change my oil next day check engine like goes off the car saying they put in the wrong oil. They then took off code then it happened again went to my guy that changes my oil not only did they put in regular oil but they left all parts lose . The worst part about it was that a simple oil change cost me 500 to change and flush my engine . Stay away from these crooks read more

This place doesnt even deserve a single star, this place is a nightmare. Its called Discount tires for a reason. Cutting corners, bad service, rude and dirty employees, concealed by the most fake first impression that tricks you in the worst possible way. Let me start from the beginning. I have a LR2 (2008 land rover) that needed all four tires replaced. I got a great deal for 130 a tire from these guys and was instantly sold (they also tried to accommodate a decent turnaround time given a snow storm we had in the area). Little did i know I'm going to get new tires with the worst alignment of my life. I took the car thinking all is good (they aligned my car for an extra 79$ and i was so excited for my car). O all was good except my mat was all muddy (i told myself well the weather is nasty) and i noticed a sticky nasty gross steering wheel (they didnt clean it after test driving i assume) and both i ignored and gave them the benefit of the doubt. Anyway... Took my car for a ride to notice a 10 degree slant on my steering wheel when going straight, the car dragging to the right when i straightened my steering wheel. What the hell. I call them (3 days after repair, i hadnt driven my car enough to notice this) and the guy said yes come within 2 months we'll fix it in 20 minutes! I go back 3 days later since i dont think id ever want to drive a car with such a terribly angled steering wheel. Come back, obviously takes them more than 30 minutes... About 85 minutes, and i take my car. O and my mechanic was told by his manager to explain the tires and alignments, he did, very poorly, totally by force, manager walks in they start yelling and arguing. While i am waiting. I ask them to please stop so i can get going, and the mechanic gets my car out of the garage. He doesnt tell me anything doesnt tell me he wants to test drive nothing, i take the car thinking itll be all fixed. First of all it was nasty sticky on the steering wheel and i asked the mechanic for a wet cloth so i can clean it, he got all pissy as if its ok for it to be gross... Anyway i thought o well he was just yelled at so who cares lets go on with our lives. Thanked him and left. Started driving and guess what? My steering wheel was now at a 30 degree slant when i was driving straight, i was being pushed a great amount to the left when i kept my steering wheel straight, absolutely ridiculous, absurd. I go back in the shop furious mad and appalled. I take the manager for a ride so he can notice it, and he says he can fix it. I had no time. Anyway i go back later the same day since obviously i cannot drive with such a messed up alignment. Ive been here for an hour and 40 minutes. Now he tells me the outer tire rod is bent causing the problem, funny thing is he didnt notice this before? He told me he can fix it for me for a good price. Over my dead body. I am out of here. Dont cut corners its not worth it, this place has made me realize how bad cheap service can be. I wont come back i wont recommend it, and i doubt ill ever forgive them. read more

I had a really good experience dealing with this chain, and Russel in particular. I had done a ton of research and decided on the exact tires I wanted to replace my old ones with. The two best prices I found was on Amazon and at Mavis. Amazon was actually a little cheaper, but equaled out as I would have had to have someone install them. I have to admit I was a bit sceptical given an earlier account regarding this location, and wanting exact tires.(of course I yelped them) Being nearby I decided just to drive by and see if they had the tires, and to suss things out.(Website said there were only 4 left) I was greeted by Russel, it was very busy at the time(friday afternoon), and he informed me the tires were not at his location, but he could see if he could get them in for me. He did point out a couple of other brands that were comparable, but I told him I was set on that particular tire, and they were the only ones I wanted. He pushed no other brands after that. I even asked him if he would install the ones I could potentially buy off amazon. He was happy to do that job as well, quoting a competitive price just for mounting and balancing. He even took it a step further working out the numbers to see if I would save anything by going that route over buying from Mavis. They were still a few dollars cheaper at Mavis. He actually even beat the quote I received on the Mavis website that I was going off of. It turned out he would be able to get the tires, and while he could not promise when they would get them, he told me he would call me when they got in. He called the next morning and I was able to drop my car off that saturday afternoon. I told him I had a picnic I needed to get to at 3pm, and arranged to pick up the car the following morning as I did not expect it to get done before then. He ended up calling back around 2pm to let me know the tires were done(I could pick up the car), but there were a few other things I should have fixed. What they did not know was that I was having work done at my local mechanic. And my trip there occurred while in the middle of that work. He proceeded to point out all the things(no more, no less) that my mechanic had not gotten to yet. I told them thank you for the insight, but I already have someone working on it. They pushed no further. I was impressed because while it normally would have looked like an "upsell," I knew it really was just a good mechanic pointing out a problem that needed fixing. Pardon the long winded and grammatically challenged review, but it is my first, and I also felt it was necessary given the past issues reported from this location. I would definitely come back, and recommend. I was thoroughly satisfied with the quality of work and service. I agree with Max C's review the most, and gave the 5 stars because while I was offered the tire protection, there was no pushy sell. read more

This was my third experience with Mavis in Brooklyn, and fourth with the company. As always, there is an atmosphere of hardworking, knowledgeable professionals from office to bay. I have faith in the work and am always pleased with some small accommodation on management's part (like a free oil change given the work I had done and a delay in receiving a part). I drove in from Staten Island, where 90% of the shop owners are crooks. It was worth the ride and the toll for the bridge. I dislike placing reviews, however, I couldn't resisit for this one. I have never been more displeased with a business. I just got my new car tires installed in this place. First of all let me tell you that they are complete rip offs, I called them and asked about the fees and it was fairly decent. I decided to drive there and get my tires replaced. They make you sign a receipt at the end when your car is complete becusse they know if they show it to you before you start, you will drive right out of the place. They don't tell you about the 60$ labor fee they charge nor do they tell you they charge 10$ to dispose the tires (keep in mind you can't even take them with you even if you wanted to "due to the NY law" as they stated). In addition to all that they even charge another 60$ as a sales fee for the tires ???? I never heard of that. Anyway long story short , tires supposed to cost me 135 a pop like they said but ended up to be about 170 each. I do NOT recoomend this shop to anyone. You are better of going to a local tire shop and buying tires there. This place is a rip off.!! Hope you guys take my advice and dismiss they place from your future purchases. If they had 0 stars I will give them 0 , I feel rating them a 1 star is to high! read more

I normally don't write reviews but this place is a definite exception since it was so bad. I wish I could give 0 stars. I , my husband and my four year old were driving this evening when we got a flat. We spotted this tire shop after driving around for awhile trying to find a tire shop. My husband went in and explained we had a flat and his family was in the car. The person working began to yell at my husband and say we are closed you have to leave. My husband tried to explain again that we had a little one in the car . He just continued to yell and tell us they were closed and we had to go somewhere else. The doors were not locked and people were sitting in a waiting area. I would never go there again. Word of advice there is a way to conduct your self in customer service. A simple we are sorry but we are closed but I can let you know we're another tire shop would have been good enough. But to yell and scream was totally unprofessional. Next time lock your doors if you are closed. I am writing this while at another tire shop. I can't believe people conduct business this way and have no compassion. read more

The team here is great, and i never had any issues with the mechanics, like some reviewers in here. The mechanic that i had was a great guy, and knowledgeable. I previously had 2 sets of tires installed on my van, and pickup. I was quoted a price, and went to do the install. Everything went well the first time, so i figured i will go them the next time. One of the tires on my pickup picked up a fat screw which rendered it non-repairable. So i called Mavis, and got a price quote on the tire, and they ordered the replacement. When i get there, i am quoted a price of $50 higher than what i had the tires installed for a few months prior. Granted, i understand more tires bigger room for playing with the price. Shop manager, simply stated it can't be done. I stated then, why was I quoted such. Anyway, i had to pay for the service, and figured i would deal with customer service, as not going to put on a scene at the shop. Called customer service, nice woman on the phone is able to pull up my quote, and forwarded it to a regional manager. Regional manager calls me back stating would honor if quoted as such. Then states no records of my initial quote. I explained that the shop had it, the lady on the phone i spoke with you on the line had it before it is escalated, and now records are mysteriously gone? Stinks because i thought i found a good tire place. Going to stick with the smaller tire shops that i have used in the past. read more
