Sal is an honest mechanic. Full stop. This holiday I was having trouble with my truck. Smoke was coming out the engine bay and there was coolant everywhere. I drove it to his shop after searching a mechanic in the area. As I pulled up to his shop, smoke was pouring from under the hood. I feared the worst. Sal took my keys and told me to have a seat. He came back 45 minutes later and explained that a clamp broke on a hose and he replaced it free of charge. He could have told me anything at that point. He even refused to take anything from me when once he saw how relieved I was. Amazing service. Straight shooter. And my new mechanic!!!! read more

I had a wonderful experience when I took my car to Sal. I needed a state inspection, and an oil change. I also had had a warning light that needed to be checked out. All of the work was completed in a little over an hour. Sal explained everything and kept me posted as to what was happening. His staff was also very helpful and friendly. His office was filled with several people who all knew and loved him. The walls were covered with pictures and cards from satisfied customers. He provided donuts and coffee for all. Last summer, the A/C suddenly stopped working in our car; a friend recommended Sal's so I brought the car in. I'm very glad I did, because it turned out to be the best experience I've ever had with a repair shop. And that's saying something, because I've needed more than my fair share of repairs over the years. I knew I was in good hands when Sal came in with a list of all the cars they were working on that day and sat down with every single person to ask troubleshooting questions and explain what the plan was to get their car fixed. Sal and the staff did a great job diagnosing the problem with our car and keeping me informed every step of the way; they even took the time to bring me out and show me exactly where the issue was in my car so I could see it for myself. On top of that, everyone was incredibly friendly--not just the staff, but the other customers too. If you've ever taken your car for repairs or service, you know the waiting room is usually dead silent, but Sal's waiting room was more like a barbershop, with people just popping in to say hi and shoot the breeze. (And if that's not enough, they also ordered pizza for staff AND customers.) When the work was done (for a reasonable price, too) Sal made sure to check in with me personally and recap everything they did. He also told me to stop by any time in the following week or two so they could recheck the car and make sure everything was working as intended--free of charge. I was almost hesitant to write this review because I selfishly don't want everyone and their mother knowing how great Sal's is, but the quality of their work and their customer service are outstanding, and they deserve to be recognized for it. I just had the most pleasant experience taking my Mercury Mountaineer (SUV) to Sal's Auto Repair. My Service RSC light kept coming on along with an annoying sound. My usual mechanic seemed to have closed out of nowhere, so I searched online for another mechanic and found Sal's. The mechanic checked out my car, ran a diagnostic, and found that the system just needed to be reset. I was sure they would charge me for the time and use of their computer, but to my surprise, Sal told me what the problem was and told me "no charge". Most mechanics, even the mechanics i visited for over 20 years, would have charged me for their time and equipment. The reviews about this auto repair shop are for real. Nicest repair folks ever. We drove over a sheet of plastic (had no choice) which wrapped itself around our the drive train instantly. We found Sal's after a google search for the closest repair place and lucked out. They were about to close, but ushered it in and fixed it and our loose front bumper for free. Had a front-end leak but only when the motor was running. Went to a repair shop recommended on Yelp. Was told they didn't do Fords but the person who attended me was kind enough to take a look at the leak. He said it was the top engine gasket that had to be replaced and said I should go to another shop down Utica Avenue to get it fixed. When I did so, I went past Sal's Auto Repair and remembered I had been there 5 years ago to fix a window that had fallen into the door and had been very pleased with the service. Arrived about 5 PM. Sal took one look at the engine, poked the radiator hose, and said that was what was causing the leak. Thought I would have to come back to get it fixed because it was so late but he had it fixed by the time he closed at 6 PM and only charged me $70 for the repair. read more

Our Warrenty had expired for our car. But before it did my Husband took it to the dealership to replace a head light. The Dealership said it was a wiring problem and would cost about $500 to fix. So my husband but it off. The other day the other head light went out. My husband took it to Sal's thinking it would cost at least $500 to fix. The guy at Sal's said it's a short (Just like they said at the Dealership) He fixed it in 20 min. and charged my husband $50 for labor, the short and a new light bulb.
