I can't say enough good things about the team at Mavis Tires in Dover, NJ, especially James and Lenny. I blew a tire on I-80 and had my 2013 Nissan Pathfinder (160k miles) towed to their shop. What started as a flat tire turned into a much bigger issue, but thanks to their honesty and care, it was handled in the best possible way. Once my car was on the lift, Lenny immediately noticed that my rear subframe was completely rusted, posing a serious safety issue. He took the time to walk me through everything he saw, explaining in detail what was affecting my car's performance. He didn't just point out problems--he provided cost-friendly solutions and created a package that addressed my vehicle's most urgent needs without overwhelming me financially. All four tires needed to be replaced, but when the work was complete, the difference was unbelievable. My car now sits higher in the back, drives smooth, and feels practically brand new. Worst customer service experience ever. I brought my car in at 2pm, Jim, the manager, gave me a price for tires that he had in stock and said it would be about 1 1/2 hours. There were no other customers in the shop at that time, as I sat down to wait. During the afternoon several people came in and out for tires and repairs while I continued to wait. By 4:30, there was only myself and one other client, who came in after me also, as several others came and went after I came in. When Jim took that clients car also ahead of me. I asked him if he was putting me last because I'm an older woman who sat quietly. He was so disrespectful, said he told me it would take time, lost his temper and shouted to the tire techs 'put her old tires back on and let her leave' ! I left with my original tires put back on frustrated and furious over his bad tempered treatment. The last client there with me said you should have been treated better. The tire techs and the other manager offered their apologies while Jim just glared at me. I said I'm giving you a bad review. Terrible treatment and experience and I would not recommend this shop. read more

My car was shaking when i was driving on the highway. Brought it to Mavis since it was the only place open on Sunday. I had just had the tires balanced, the car aligned and tires inspected / rotated elsewhere and none of those were the issue. I thought maybe the muffler. Was told the muffler had minor holes but nothing serious. My brakes however... but how my brakes could make my car shake whiler accelerating? Who knows. He and another employee gave me a price. I agreed. 2 hours later was told they didnt have the scanner they needed and to come back in the morning. Wasted 2 hours of my day. But that was ok bc they got me tomorrow. Got there at 8 am the next morning and surprise no one i spoke with the previous day was there. And this team didnt seem to have knowledge of anything and quoted me over $100 more than the previous day. I sat and waited. And waited and waited. 2 hours later and still not done. Explained i had a dental appt and would be charged if i was late and the car had to be done by 11. They said sure. Fast forward: the car was not done by 11 so i was charged $50 for a no show from The dentist. the price, although "discounted" for my time waiting, was still over the agreed upon cost from the previous day, and my car still shakes violently when i drive down the highway so my original issue was never solved. One of my tires went flat at, ok, I'll say it, the Costco gas station. I pumped air into it and brought the car a couple of hundred feet away to their tyre center. Alas, they did NOT have the size I needed. I called this Mavis (it was five miles away), they confirmed they had multiple options. I had a tow truck bring my car there and aside from a bit of delay (they're very popular!) everything went great. They even pointed out the likely reason for my tire failure which is one of these zebra possibilities, so when I can drop the car off, etc., etc. Highly recommended. read more

Very very rude employees. Do not go to this location!!!! It was 8:03 and I went to go inside and found the door still locked. I patiently waited outside for someone to open the door. When the guy came to open the door, he pushed it open and didn't say a word. He walked all the way back to the counter, turned around, took a deep breath, and then said "help you?" I said "no thanks." and walked right out the door. If you open the door to a customer, the absolute least you can do is say "hi." It's not asking too much. It's called being friendly. Again, do not go to this location. I ended up going to the location in Denville in 46. (Please see my review for them.) Not that it matters but, the reason for me to bring my car in today... not less than 2 weeks ago, I spent almost $1,000 In NEW tires at Mavis. Then on a Sunday, I was traveling on Rt. 46 and got a flat. I happened to be very close to this location and coasted on it. I was told it was over a 3 and a half wait for my car to be looked at. I waited over 4 hours to be told that they didn't know how the tire got flat because there were no nails, razors, glass, etc. and they ended up replacing the tire... of course after paying $33.48 for the "computer balance package." read more

Absolutely awful. I called and spoke to someone and gave them all specifics on my tire and they gave me a great quote. I called again to book the appointment and repeated my tire specifications again. Came to my appointment and they do not have my tire. They ordered the wrong one after I repeated myself 10 times. They told me to come back the next day and the tires will be there. Next day I called before I arrived and they said yes they are in the shipment and will be dropped off at 3:30. I arrive and low and behold no tires. They do not know when they will be there. I canceled and left. Save your money and go to pep boys. read more

I arrived 15 minutes prior to 8:00 which is when Mavis opens due to a tire indicator light on my dash. Andrew, the manager of the store tells me "give us a few minutes, it's not even 8 yet." Ok.. weird way to greet a customer I thought ... most businesses in this country say "Good morning" maybe this guy woke up on the wrong side of the bed.. Andrew then explains since I don't have an appointment I would have to drop off the car instead of waiting. I would have wanted to wait if possible but ok, if Andrew insisted he had so many appointments, I could manage to come back later in the day. I received a call from Andrew at 11:20 to come get my car as everything was done regarding the indicator light. He suggested I also receive another repair to which I declined (I'd rather it be done elsewhere at this point) I arrive at Mavis to pick up my car at 11:40 but I am told they don't know where the keys are and Andrew is currently out on a parts run. I had to wait for an hour to be able to be on the road again. I wouldn't suggest this tire shop. Problem lies in management. Andrew did not even apologize, he would not even look me in the eye. As I motioned to pay he just said "you're good buddy." I did not even receive an apology or any explanation as to why my keys were lost. At least my tire valve was fixed for free. I went to Mavis in February before a surgery which is why this review is delayed. I needed 2 front tires and just to state there was nothing wrong with my truck before I took it here. The day I took my truck my husband had ordered the wrong tire and they didn't realize this until they had my tires off. They put my old tires back on and told me to come back the next day. When I got in the car the tire pressure sensor was on and the car was making a funny noise. The next day i went back and they put the new tires on. When I got the truck back the tire sensor light was still on and the steering wheel shook when I got up to 60mph and the same noise I heard was still there. I went back to mavis to get the truck checked. They were having issues with their machine and told me to cone back the next day. When I went back they told me the back sensor was broken. They told me it would be $80.00 to fix. The sensors are designed to last 10 years my truck just turned 3 years old there is no way the sensor would have broken I declined and left. After I recovered from surgery I took my truck to my mechanic. He discovered the left front sensor was broken, the tires were not properly balanced which is why the steering wheel was shaking and they broke the front stabalizer bars. The total bill to fix what Mavis broke came to $463.52. The fact they took 0 responsibility and then tried to charge me for what they did is disgusting. I would never recommend this company. Beware if you take your vehicle here. I want the money back that I had to spend on the repairs to fix what Mavis broke. read more

On 7/17/21 my son got a flat tire and stopped on the side of the highway to fix it. He discovered he had no lug wrench to get the tire off. He did a giggle search and found Mavis tire on RT 46 in Dover NJ and thought wow only 6mins away they will help me. So he drove on the the flat to the store. He walk in and told the guy his situation and the guy says I have 7more cars to do only 2 guys and we close in 30 mins. My son calls me a tells me what's going on. I called the manager and he tells me the same thing. I said wait it's an emergency situation can't you at least let him use a lug wrench I'll give you my cc over the phone to charge. He says I have 7 cars left and 30 mins until closing. I said what if this were your child or your sister you wouldn't just do the good deed of helping for a few minutes? All i have to say is that this place was amazing, The people that work there were very nice and Andrew was very informative. If it was not for these people i would not have known that i had an oil leak and needed a shock replaced. I was also getting ready for a road trip to the Carolina's which would have been a nuisance if i had not known this. I feel this place was completely honest and sincere. The check engine light came on my mustang. Brought it to here to see what was wrong and potentially get it fixed. $128.00 later they diagnosed the issue as needing to replace the canister purge valve which controls the EVAP system. They quoted me $620.00 for parts and labor (diagnosis fee would have counted against that). I told them don't do anything and took it elsewhere. The new shop did the same work for $232.00. I have been a regular customer at this location and I wonder how many other times they have taken advantage of me for not knowing enough about cars. I will never take any of our family's cars back to a Mavis/STS location again. read more

Should have read the other on Google that said how awful this place was before going here. My husband and I bought 4 tires 2 months ago and one of them started leaking air due to a defect in the tire. They said it was leaking air from the rim and said they fixed it, but it was still leaking air. The tire is covered under manufacturer's warranty, but they refused to replace. My husband and I thought, no big deal, we will just buy another tire even though it would cost us around $120 out of pocket. They told us the tire would be in the next day. I went there the next day and the tire still wasn't there, but it would be there tomorrow. I went the next day and the store manager Julian was extremely rude and ignored me and spoke to me in a condescending tone when I asked if the tire arrived. He ignored me for 10 minutes while taking a phone call and doing a refund for another person. Finally, I asked him again when the tire would be in and he said "tomorrow". I waited a few more days because surely the tire would be in by then, right? I went in yesterday and Nick who was very polite told me that it still wasn't there and that he would call and get the tire delivered ASAP. I went in today and I get Julian again and he ignores me for 5 minutes until I finally ask again and then he says that the tire was discontinued. I just bought 4 of the tires 2 months ago and during the 1.5 weeks where I was waiting for this tire, no one told me that the tire was discontinued at all. DO NOT GO TO THIS STORE unless you want to be treated rudely and given the runaround. Unprofessional and incompetent workers, especially the store manager Julian. Was there today to replace 1 tire, not a set but one tire, took them over an hour to get it done...two guys working there couldn't figure out how to drive my car which was hilarious, the one walks back in to the waiting room back onto the register and goes to tell me he doesn't know how to drive manual, yet he was out there in my brand new car trying to to figure out how to move it, pulls it half way into the garage waves at me to get my attention, I go over there and he goes I'm going to leave the car here which was parked half way inside the garage, then said he'll have his manger move it completely into the garage so over an hour passes by, guy that was apparently a manager as well too moves my car to the front cause it was finally done, I go to expect the work they did and what do I find on my brand new rims? Marks either from the mounting machine or the bead press, guess they were too lazy so my conclusion was it probably happened when they were putting the new tire back on. The tech probably didn't use the bead press arm on the tire machine and instead used the metal tire bar/lever to help seat the top bead. Laziness but what should I honestly expect from a cheap tire place like Mavis...lesson learned...So as soon as I brought it up to one of the workers he had the guy come out that was working on my car and ask if if he did it denies it of course and then tried turning it around and telling me that it was like that when it came in there and that I did it...Little do these workers know I took a picture of the wheel before they took it off in there garage, before they started doing the work on my tire in case any nonsense like this happened. So I'll be going there early tomorrow morning to speak to a manger to settle this. But long story short avoid cheap service stations like Mavis it'll save you a headache in the long run. Just a bunch of younger teenagers that don't know what the hell there doing. My car needed new brakes, so I took it to Mavis after I had heard good experiences by word of mouth. After calling them the next day 4 times, sitting on hold for 7-8 minutes each before having to go back to work, they finally answered. The mechanic gave me some ridiculous excuse that my brakes were the worst type to do, that my calipers were located behind the hub and wheel bearing, and it would take 3.5 hours to do the front brakes alone. They also told me I needed new calipers, and new shocks. After telling them I just wanted the brakes to be done, they advised me it would cost around $1,100 to do the pads and calipers with labor. I advised them that I wasn't comfortable paying that and I would take the car home as is. When picking up my car, the person who dropped me off noticed that my locking nut tool was sitting in the cup holder, with a snapped off lug-nut. The mechanic explained that they did not use an impact wrench, and they were doing it by hand when it snapped. They did not offer to give me a lug nut that was snapped, and I ended up driving the car home on a missing lug nut . I ended up doing the brakes myself, after having a family friend who's a mechanic check the rotors and calipers, who said they were 100% fine, and spending $40 and taking a half hour out of my night to do it myself. I will never be giving this, or any other Mavis, my business ever again. read more

I visited the location at 416 Route 46, Dover NJ 07801 today to have a battery replaced. I arrived at the location and parked my car in the parking spaces across from the repair bays. I went inside the store and spoke with the gentleman behind the desk. I later found out that this person was the regional manager as told to me later by the store manager. The regional manager informed me that a worker would have to drive my car into the bay. I informed that I had concerns about this in lieu of the corona virus that is extremely present in this county. The regional manager informed me that the worker would be fully outfitted with protective equipment including gloves and a mask. I witnessed the worker exitl out of my truck without wearing any gloves and wearing short sleeve shirts. I saw the regional manager approach the worker as exited my vehicle handing the worker gloves to put on. Again, this is after the worker contaminated my car. The regional manager proceeded to go back to the desk area in the garage bay. He did not make any move towards to me to acknowledge what had transpired. He clearly was hoping I did not see what happened. This conduct is deceitful, dishonest, and shows a clear disregard for the safety of your employees. I had to knock on the glass and tell the regional manager that I saw the worker exit my truck without gloves being worn. The regional manager clearly acted like someone that had been caught in the act. This is absolutely shameful! The fact that he tried to hide what had happened to me beyond belief. I had to tell him that he needed to disinfect my car. He proceeded to tell a worker to wipe down the steering wheel with disinfectant. I had to go back to him again to tell him he needs to wipe the door, the handles, the windows, and anything else that might have been contaminated. He acted like it was all inconvenient to his time. It should also be noted that you had other employees behind the desk that were not wearing gloves and constantly removing there masks. Even when they wore their masks they were below the nose. The level of cross contamination is disgusting and rampant. This company clearly does not care about customer's safety. Don't go to this location unless you want to put yourself at risk of covid19. read more
