TL;DR - they changed the wrong tire and did nothing to make it right. I took my car there a few weeks ago to patch my rear passenger tire. Knowing that it had already been patched, I figured I would need to pay for a new tire. The tire wasn't in stock so I had to bring it back a few days later. Showed up on a Wednesday morning, they had me in and out in less than 90 minutes. Wednesday evening, I received a notification that my tire was again flat. As this Midas was 25 minutes from my house, I took it to a local shop to see what had happened. The lady confirmed in 20 seconds that the new tire was the front passenger, not the rear. I took it back to Midas and explained they changed the wrong tire. After an hour of looking at it, they realized their mistake. However, the tire they took off less than 12 hours before was apparently no longer at the store. Their offer to me was to "only charge me" the wholesale price of a new tire. I said that was unacceptable, as it was their fault, and they owed me a tire. One of the guys said it was his boss's call, and they would call me in the morning. They never called. I called back a week later. I got the same reply - it's the boss's call and he'd call me back. No call back. I called the Midas number to get a solution. They called the store. A few minutes later, the same guy called me and said...you guessed it..."it's the boss's call and he'll call you in 30 minutes." Never got a call. Once the workers realized their mistake, they were super apologetic and were actively seeking ways to help. They ended up patching my tire from the inside, and the guy who did it (I forget his name) said "it's good for the life of the tire, but that's not right by you" which was a pretty stand up thing to say. However, I still need a new tire as the light is still on. I have no problems with any of the workers at the store, as mistakes happen, and they owned up to it and tried to help. However, the owner of this particular store still has not provided any contact whatsoever, and his one offer to me was to buy another tire. I cannot recommend this place because of that, and will not be returning. If I those workers were not there, I would rate this store below zero stars. read more

Avoid this location and go to another location because Kevin the store manager (as he says) is extremely rude and condescending to the customers and employees. I was trying to get new tires, brakes, and oil change performed on my car and was asking if they had a package deal. My total was $1500 and just asked if they had coupons or offers. I was talking with another technician and I heard Kevin call me a cheap f word. I told him to repeat what he said to me. I was accused of being disrespectful and told to step outside to "talk". They stated $300 for the battery, $150 for battery labor, and the remainder was for alternator replacement. The staff was pushy, rude, and one gentleman, possibly the manager, refused to honor the quote the other person gave me. A bystander mechanic--who had no affiliation--warned me I was being taken advantage of. On his advice, I went to another local shop, where I paid $200 for the battery, $28 for labor, and my alternator was confirmed fine. This behavior is unacceptable. The manager was sketchy and rude. Mostly importantly, they are honest and won't recommend unnecessary repairs/replacement of not necessary. I'd always visited my local auto shop or the Chevrolet dealership for all car related services for my Chevy Equinox, until one day they weren't able to get me an appointment for a much needed oil change. Fortunately, Mavis at Hackensack was able to get my vehicle in and out quickly! And I've been a customer since! Another perk is their convenient location. I had an appointment for 10 AM for tires which allowed me to see what was available beforehand. I don't think it's necessary to make the appointment because it seems like it's first come, first served. Although I was there for over two hours the person at the front desk was very efficient and had the shop running like a fine tooth comb. A few weeks ago, my Tesla front tire had a "bubble" and it was unsafe to drive. I called Tesla and they could not provide service (replacement tire and/or mount and install my four all-weather tires) for three days. I've used them couple times, there knowledge as a mechanic is unbelievably low...I had to go to another transmission place to get repair on my transmission which Mavis messed up. They might be ok to replace a tire but not as a mechanic. I want to charge the fee of $2600 that I need to pay for the repair which was unnecessary if Mavis didn't do anything wrong. read more

STAY AWAY from Hackensack location! Mavis Tire in Hackensack apparently hates women. My wife took her Ford F-150 pickup to get one leaking tire checked out and they were condescending and extremely unhelpful. At the beginning it seemed like they weren't going to honor the road hazard warranty because they didn't believe we had purchased it. Isn't that in the computer? Then, the manager proceeded to belittle and berate her in front of all the mechanics when all she wanted to know was if the tire needed to be fixed. This is extremely disappointing because we've spent well over $2500 in the past few years buying eight new tires for two different trucks, two four wheel alignments, oil changes, etc. After relaying our experience to friends and coworkers, they told us their wives have also had similar experiences at Mavis. What is this, the 1800's? Treating women, or any of our fellow human beings in this way is completely unacceptable. I got a flat tire on the side of the road. I had a tow truck driver come pick my car up and bring it to the nearest tire shop, which was this Mavis location. I came back the next morning to get the tire changed and when I left, I was $140 poorer, the hubcap on the tire was missing, and the tire sign came back on almost immediately. Will never return. Update: Went to another tire place and they stated that we didn't have enough air in any of the tires. How are you going to a place that advertises tires place and they don't check the air or the pressure? And, Why does a brand new tire have the lowest amount of air out of all the tires? read more

Third time I have come to Mavis to get tires. Twice in Hackensack and once in Closter. It is rare that you see a company so lazy that when you set up an appointment and order the tires in advance; when you get there they have no tires. Then they say the delivery didn't come today but don't call you to reschedule before you get to the store. Unprofessional and do not deserve to be in business. Customers mean nothing to them. Mavis is already known to be a total rip off scam operation by providing vulnerable and unsuspecting people of services they don't need. With that said sometimes they are OK. Called earlier and spoke to a gentleman named Steve to see if I can get a tire patched. I already have confirmed the tire can be patched. Steve first tried to sell me new tires (without even looking at my tire or seeing if they can patch it) and when he realized he I won't buy any tires right away, he said he can't patch 22" wheels and hung up rudely. I thought for a minute and decided to just get new tires instead and called Steve again to arrange the job. He didn't answer my two calls after from my number when I used another phone he picked up right away. Ended up going to small mom and pop shop who had it done for $20 in 10 minutes and told me I could get another year and half out of the current tires. I scheduled my jeep to have tires installed for monday 12/10 @ 200pm. I scheduled the install on 12/5. At 1230pm someone called and wanted to confirm appointment. I informed him that my wife would be bringing the jeep, he informed me there maybe a 30 minute wait. I told please do not make wait Any longer than 30 minutes. He told that shouldn't be problem. My wife arrived at 145pm and was informed she would have to wait over 2hrs just to get in shop and unknown how long for tires to be installed, plus they already were adding a $79 wheel alignment charge. My wife took off from work in order to have tires installed and was very upset. The installer really didn't seem to care. I'm very disatified with how my wife was treated. Basicly why bother scheduling appointment if there not going to adhered to it. I would never recommend mavis tire to anyone. They seem disinterested in helping a customer. I get the overwhelming majority of required maintenance taken care of for both of my cars at the Hackensack Mavis location. I trust my cars' dealerships to recommend what I need when I visit them annually for an oil change/checkup, but unless the required maintenance is very make/model specific, I get the work done at Mavis where the price is always at least 50% less. Ray has been my go-to guy for years here even when it was STS. The name changed to Mavis but I still go here to deal with Ray and now Jose as well. Ray and Jose are both people that I trust to do the work right and for the right price. read more

STAY AWAY! First, I was called to confirm the tire I had ordered over the phone was at the shop. When my wife arrived the next day, they told her the tire wasn't there. She had to go back hours later once the tire arrived. Second, I Was quoted one price over the phone, there was a second different price online, and my wife was charged a third and much higher price at the location. When I called to ask why the same tire I was sold cost $30 less online, the employee claimed the shop had no internet access so he couldn't verify the price online. Brought in our car for four new tires. They said that our struts were leaking and the battery was leaking acid as well, and would cost $800 to repair. We declined and took the car to Toyota and they said there were no issues with the struts nor with the battery. It seems like they were trying to scam us, or the mechanic was not properly trained by Mavis. Later, when driving the car at speeds above 40 mph, the car would vibrate and shake. Unfortunately we only noticed this on our way to upstate New York. It urns out that although they did a wheel alignment which we paid $80 for, they did not balance the tires. Fortunately, Mavis in Florida New York were able to assist us and solve all the problems that Mavis Hackensack had created. read more

I knew it the second they pulled my truck around. I had made a tremendous mistake. Sloppy, unprofessional looking guys, salesman was constantly trying to upsell me, very uncomfortable. So, when I saw my check tire light was still on, I asked about it, "just drive a little, it will turn off" I was told. Guess what? It didn't turn off. I did notice however, that my wheels were way out of balance. The truck was vibrating like mad at any speed over 40mph. So, rather then bring my truck back to STS I took it to Toyota. Where they confirmed my suspicions. These idiots at STS broke one of my tire sensors. The idiots also used 6 weights to try and balance the wheel with the broken sensor. The Toyota mechanic actually brought the weights out to me to show me. He had never seen anything so shoddy. I have called the STS corporate office and am currently waiting on a return call to see what they are willing to do to remedy this situation. This place is horrible. Let me say that again... Horrible. I want to stress that. On two separate occasions I've had them tell me that I needed hundreds of dollars worth of work done when all I did was bring it in for an oil change and to get the rear tires replaced. I've heard stories from multiple people about STS being very shady with what work in their words "needed" to be done. A co-worker was told she needed new tires when she had literally bought them 2 months earlier and another co-worker brought in a van for some light repair and was told that it needed thousands of dollars worth of repair. Hi, I purchased 4 Pirelli Scorpion Verde All Season Plus tires online because the price was amazing. I noticed that I thought the installation was high, but after all was said and done, it was still cheaper than the competitors. I was called before the appointment was scheduled and they said I could come right in that day to get the tires. I waited several hours at the store and finally the work was done, they were a little pushy about brakes, but I thought that this was "normal" for mechanics, and I told them that I ONLY use oem brakes because I have used almost everything and didn't like any vibration on the wheel when braking. I did end up doing the brakes myself and noticed that they didn't remove the old wheel weights, they just slapped new ones on too. The techs replaced the tires and did the alignment.. almost $800 later, my car shook like it had epilepsy while I was on the highway. I asked about what type of warranty they had for balancing, and they said none. I ended up having to bring the car somewhere else and pay $200 for road force balancing, which I should have done in hindsight anyway. I am really upset because the money that I thought I saved, I had to spend elsewhere. I would stay away unless you want to get low quality work for low prices. read more

Horrible experience. I had an appointment at 8:00 am to get 4 new tires installed. When I got there, the store manager told me that I had been quoted for 3 tires instead So I ended up paying $200 more then what I walked in there initially ready to pay. I got a call at 1:55 pm saying my car was going to be ready in 25 minutes. No one ended up calling me so I called back around 4:10 pm and my car was now ready. I don't know when they were planning on calling me since they close at 5 pm. Anyways, when I got my car back, my car had a scratch so I brought this up to the store manager and he took a picture, said he'll show his boss Monday morning and said " by the way, that's rust" and as I'm still talking to him, he just walked away before I said hello I'm still talking to you. He didn't tell me when someone would reach out to me or who would even be reaching out to me. Super unprofessional. I then had to go back after getting home and seeing an extra 5-7 scratches. When I got back, Andrew was efficient in helping me. Took the pictures, said he'll give them to his boss Monday morning, and even apologized for this happening to me. read more
