Two times I have made an appointment online in the past (within the past 3 or so years) for things like inspections and received a call that their inspector is not in that particular day and to reschedule. Today I walked in with an appointment that I have made online the week before for an inspection and tire rotation. I received at least three emails of confirmation and reminders. I walked in 10 minutes early to my appointment to Anthony on the phone with someone. I patiently waited. After he hung up he continued looking at the computer screen like I'm not there. Being the respectful person that I am I continue waiting for him to finish up whatever he is doing so I do not interrupt. Finally he says "Can I help you?" like I'm a nuisance. I tell him I have an appointment. He tells me his inspector is booked for the day. Confused, I repeated I had an appointment. He tells me again they are booked and that their website does not coincide with what is actually available. WTF. Meanwhile today is my only day off during the week as someone with a full time job and two young children... and I had planned this entire day out around this. No apologies whatsoever. I can't believe it. I walked out saying "Thanks... for nothing." Because it really was nothing. Unbelievable. "CHEAT" This is a seat scam shop, after spending $1000 on tire and breaks the guy at the counter told me, my tire rotation is free on my oil change. So, when I went back for oil change my tire was not rotated but on paper, they said it is done. I caught the scam because I had changed only two tires. I will report this to BBB. You can set up an appointment for service - so I did. I came in 30 minutes early and the employee that took me in was professional and polite. For purchasing 4 tires and wheel alignment, he gave me an estimate of wait time 2 hours. My appointment was at 9am and they didn't touch my vehicle at 1230pm. It is now 2pm and I ended up waiting from dropping off my kids to school and now someone in my family has to pick them up. Next time I'll go to BJs or Costco. Their specialty is tires - oil change and other service should be 2nd priority. I will never use this Mavis ever again. I called Mavis on Sunday afternoon in the hopes they could squeeze me in on Monday morning for an oil change and inspection. I was pleasantly surprised to hear that that wouldn't be an issue. I was told that their inspection guy (probably not his actual title) was only there until 1 and that I should drop that car off as early as possible. I promised I'd drop it off between 8 and 830 and said I was in no rush for the car, as long as it was done by the end of the day. I dropped the car off around 8:15 and left my spare key with Anthony, who was incredibly fun to chat with. We talked about the longevity of my car and how they don't make cars like that anymore. I was quoted $975 online for my cars tires and balancing. When I walk in the price they told me was over $1,300. They were charging for all these extras like valves, balancing, and warranty. When I asked the sales associate what all this was and why the price didn't match the online price. First he acted like he didn't know why, then ask I asked more questions he had a condescending attitude and annoyed why I was asking him to run me through these extras to help me decide if I needed them. I just walked away, there so many other places I can go, they should know that. I think it's terrible practice to add on all these extras and not explain why I needed these things. I made an appointment for a NYS inspection on a weekday. I chose this location because I figured if the wait was substantial, I could walk to the mall nearby. My first clue should've been the guy rolling his eyes when I didn't have my license plate memorized. I thought no big deal - I'm sure it's annoying asking the same question throughout the day! I was super confused when the same gentleman informed me that my car had failed inspection due to my wipers being worn out, my brakes were "metal to metal", and a rear light was out. When I expressed surprise at my wipers being in bad condition because I had them changed less than a month ago, the guy snorted with derision. He insisted I had to spend over $800 to remedy the aforementioned issues in order to pass the state inspection. When I told him I'd like to discuss this with my husband before going forward, he became even more condescending. He emphasized that if I didn't get this fixed soon, I could get pulled over and ticked as if I don't understand the state laws regarding a car inspection. He also made it a point to state that he was gracious enough to not take off my current NYS safety/emissions inspection certificate sticker off of my car. Further confusion because why would he do that if it's still current until the end of the month anyway. I took my car to the dealership to get another NYS done the following day. I showed them the paperwork that was given to me by the gentleman at Mavis and expressed my concern regarding the state of my car. My car passed the inspection and they found no issues with the windshield wipers, brakes, or rear light. I'm extremely irritated that I wasted $37 to be spoken to condescendingly and pressured to spend money when I didn't have to. I'm extremely aware of the stereotype of dishonest mechanics taking advantage of women but I always try to assume the best in folks. It's deeply disappointing when I actually do experience it though. Do NOT go to this location unless you want your personal belongings RAN THROUGH and STOLEN. I had about $1000 STOLEN from me after I gone to this location to get service on my tire. I arrived there at 2PM and was told it would be a two hour wait, so I waited in my car for this whole duration. I had taken about $200 cash out the bank for my errands that day and had about an $800 gift card in my wallet. I know they were there since prior to arriving at the mavis I stopped at a convenience store to purchase a beverage and was rummaging in my wallet to find a $5 bill but only had 20's. Some of the cash was also not even in the pockets and just in my wallet so that if you unfolded it, it would be right there. I waited a total of 3 hours before my car actually got in the shop. My wallet was left in the center console as I didn't really think they would be inside my car other than to move it in and out of the bay. The service takes another hour and upon receiving the car I realize that a bunch of money is missing from my wallets, my gift card is gone along with its receipt and I start freaking out. I notify the man at the desk and he gets the tech who was working on my car to discuss it with me. He says the only time he was in my car was to test drive it after the service was done, and I imagine this is when he took my belongings. I asked for the camera footage still, just so I could see if anything went down when he was actually working on my car but my guess is I probably wont see anything as the actual theft was when he was driving my car around the block. I know it's my fault for leaving my wallet there for someone to just go through but that's no reason for someone to steal my belongings. I honestly should have called the cops and dont know why I didnt in the moment. I honestly was just so shocked and infuriated at myself for letting something like this happen to me. I'll probably never see that money again but that's life I guess.. Moral of the story is always keep your valuables with you and stay FAR FAR AWAY from this shop. I brought my car here a few days ago because I've had a slow leak. They proceeded to tell me the lug nuts wouldn't turn and they wouldn't continue to work because they didn't want to risk cracking the rim. Ok cool, but these are brand new lug nuts not even 1 month old, and your mechanics proceeded to strip the lug nut. That's why it kept spinning, not because of the last mechanic I brought it to and purchased these on my behalf. Also, your employees don't wear masks inside but I'm required to wear a mask to walk in and after I'm already inside you decide to put a mask on? Make it make sense. For the sake of your life, avoid this Mavis Discount Tires at all cost. My boyfriend came in for a oil and tire change but was offered rear rotors change. Change that almost cost us our life. We came in June 2nd for the services and within 400 miles our lug nuts "came loose;" only two were holding on to our front left tire. It's disgusting how a branded car servicing establishment can intentionally not tighten someone's tires, just so they would come back for "maintenance." If we specifically changed our front tires, I see no reason as to why it was loose after 400 miles. Additionally, the mechanic/manager who spoke to us that day was rude and careless. Our leather steering wheel was teared due to his tools and all he can do it offer us a coupon for 2 oil changes. I ideally would like to trade in the car and made a mention as to how it may affect our value. He was nasty and responded that a tear won't lower anything. Even if it doesn't, I wouldn't want my steering wheel to be teared, as it is hard to replace. If I knew that my lug nuts were loosened in addition to the tear, I wouldn't have paid a penny. If I can give them negative five stars I would. I will never suggest this location or Mavis to anyone. So my original review was a positive one. What I thought was great trust worthy service was totally not what I got. So I blew a tire, needed it to be plugged. They plug it. While they did that they noticed that the tire I blew wasn't under warranty. Since I'm not a tire expert let's keep this in mind. The guy says he highly suggests me to buy a warranty. He wasn't sure why my other tires were under warranty and not this one. He saw I purchased it a while back from the store. Well a few weeks later I had to bring it in. It kept going flat. I took it to another Mavis tire. They called me and told me I had the ring of death. I needed a new tire. That's the first thing that angered me was the Mavis previous didn't even tell me! So I told them I have a warranty I had just purchased so what would that cover. The guy laughed at me and tells me it's bald. The warranty wasn't covering it. I said I just got the warranty that was told to me to get. After they looked into it they weren't sure why the other Mavis would tell me to buy it. They saw it on their end the date it was purchased. So, they offered me since I've been a loyal customer for years! A ten percent discount. Before that after ten phone calls back and forth the first guy tells me the only tires they have available are $180 to $200 a tire. Well I spoke to someone else a few minutes later and told me they had cheaper ones in stock! But the first guy didn't even offer them to me! So when I tell them to put the cheaper tire on and they confirmed the discount I tell them to proceed. I pick my car up and they didn't even apply the discount. *I was scammed to get a tire warranty on what was a bald tire. I didn't know. Warranty not usable. *I was lied to and scammed into getting a tire with a discount that wasn't applied. *I wasn't told I had the ring of death from the second visit to a Mavis from the day my tire got a flat. the first Mavis vinegar told me. I was told that it was severely dangerous! So I was driving around with something seriously dangerous and the first visit failed to tell me. They told me one pot hole I could of blown out a tire. * then I was told from the second Mavis visit that they had to charge me for the second plug because they weren't the location that did the plug! So I asked oh, are all Mavis discounts under different corporate policies. I called and they are required to fix any issues from any other Mavis. So I was lied to again!!!!! Brought the car in for an inspection at Mavis Tire at the Broadway Mall in Hicksville. They charged us $1500. New tires, that I did not think were necessary with lots of fees and add ons (valves, balancing, warranty etc) New brakes, new shocks, new fluids, new wiper blades etc. All on a well maintained car. Said it would not pass inspection and was dangerous!! The car seemed fine but we had the work done. Looking at other reviews, I guess everyone going in for an inspection will be told they need new tires, brakes and shocks. A week later, the brakes seem low and the car shakes on the highway. I bring it back to get it checked and the salesman was very condescending. Nasty. Said he checked everything himself and The car needed all that work and the car brakes were good. The car is not good. It still shakes. The mechanic said the brakes were ok, but they are still low. Mavis at the Broadway Mall in Hicksville does not not stand by their work. I was heading to IKEA and Target, and I really needed to get my NY State inspection done ASAP so I googled and found these guys. The location really can't be beat for leaving your car and going shopping at the mall. The down side is you really need to have a few hours to kill. Like, a sit-down meal and a movie, or a long IKEA visit plus some clothes shopping. These guys have a lot of customers and they don't work particualrly fast. But they were incredibly friendly and pleasant and they didn't try to sell me anything. All I paid for was the inspection, and once they actually got to it they were pretty quick. All said and done this was a positive experience. Forty minutes later, I return and my car was just finished. A mere $25, no hassle. I inquired about my back tires which are fairly new yet the Honda dealership I bought my car from insists I immediately replace. Was told I have plenty of traction left. These guys are rude and incompetent. I dropped off my car, as instructed, around 11am. I needed an inspection and an alignment. At 330pm they call and say I need to come get my car because they can't figure out out to start it and put it in gear. Its an automatic so I'm not sure what was confusing. "D" is for drive. Anyway, I go pick up my car and it starts up with no issue. Then they told me I needed to buy new tires before they could do anything. Eventhough, the tires are brand new but I bought elsewhere because Mavis is a rip off for tires. I didn't argue because if they can't figure how to drive an automatic I don't want them touching my car. I went down the road to a local small business and got it taken care of. Do not go to any Mavis!! They don't hire real mechanics!!! They are scam artists like Jiffy Lube that want to overcharge for tires and/or shotty service. Worst customer service i have ever received. I would prefer to give this establishment no stars. I brought my car here for an oil change, called ahead to ask the price they advised it will be $40. I dropped off my car, asked the Employee Anthony to make sure my fluids were checked and filled and to fill my tires with air since they were low due to the cold. I left Mavis and went to the mall while I waited for it to be done. They called me once it was done and advised my breaks were really bad that I had none left and my belt is horrible. My breaks and belt were perfectly fine when I entered the shop. I advised I didn't want the work done and went to pick up my car, when I got there they charged my $76 for the oil change even though they told me over the phone it was $40. I was disgusted at this point so I paid and left promising myself never to go back here. The next day I started to have problems with my car after this, I had someone check the fluids and turns out I have completely no antifreeze or break fluid. I had my oil change last Saturday 2/20/2021, I asked specifically to check my fluids. They obviously was trying to make money out of me and drained my fluids when I denied them to do the work for me. I wish when I made my reservation if would have notified me that the location didn't do NYS inspections on a Sunday perhaps that's just a labor shortage problem. Jason, the manager, is the best. No matter what I've done to my car (and I've done a lot - blown tires, ran over a truck muffler, side mirrors and passenger windows were vandalized, and the usual wear and tear), he's always fixed it up as good as new. I know very little about cars, so by the time I notice that something is wrong with my car, there's something REALLY wrong with it. No matter what the problem has been, they're able to fix is promptly and cheaply, but more importantly really well. I've never had another problem once they fixed it. Their price quotes are always really low. I've checked it out by either googling what the price should be or asking one of my friends who is a car aficionado, and their quote is always on the low end OR actually beats what I expected to pay. The service is incredible. Friendly, knowledgeable, and fast. If they tell you that your car will be done in 3 hours, it's done in 3 hours. If they're running a deal or a sale, they'll always give you the best price without asking. I went in for an oil change and if you had a coupon, they'll give you 10% off. I didn't have the coupon, but they gave me the 10% off without asking me about it. I trust STS with my car. And for an LA girl, that's like trusting someone to take care of your baby. read more

This is the second time I went to this shop only out of convenience. First time was for a inspection and they called me not even 10 minutes later saying I failed due to my emergency brake not working..when I get in the car I pulled me emergency brake n put it in drive n gave it gas n the car did not budge....they tried telling me my motor mounts were bad and I needed new ball joints ....I'm a mechanic for the last 10 years on n off.
