My husband ran over some nails with his car on a Saturday night. Luckily, this Mavis location was close by - with Sunday operating hours - so that we could leave it in the lot and make an online appointment to have it looked at first thing in the morning. There are plenty of seats in the waiting room (even two smaller chairs for those with children), along with water and bathrooms. Our car was seen and repaired within the hour. Best yet, they didn't take a dime for the service. They removed all the nails, but since none of them had punctured actual holes in the tires, they let us go scot free. It's so rare to receive unpaid services in this day and age, and we definitely grateful for their generous time and diligent attention. Small but hot tip if you're waiting long for your car: there's a Starbucks a short walk away inside the Stop & Shop so you can enjoy a cuppa joe while your car gets serviced. read more

Not happy with the experience I had at Mavis today. I called to see if I could drop my car off for inspection and was told that the wait would be an hour. So I brought my car in and confirmed with the gentleman at the front desk again that it would be an hour wait. Came back in an hour and he stated that my car would be next. Followed up half an hour later and he tells me the person that performs the inspections is on lunch and won't be back for 10 minutes. 15 minutes later, my car is still where I parked it. Almost 2 hours in and still nothing, so I took my car and left. Wasted my time. Just be honest and say it's going to be 2 or 3 hours! I would've come back at the appropriate time. read more

Paul, Ron and Carlos are probably the most honest folks in the auto service business. This is my secret neighborhood place, but I had share these guys with my Yelp community. I bought 4 new Continental DWS tires from Mavis over a year ago, but haven't been driving much due to CV19 and working from home. I didn't buy the tire warranty as I didn't plan to be putting a lot of mileage on my car for a bit. When I needed to add air every week, I figured I had a slow leak. Needless to say, I took my car back to Paul and Ron at Mavis and they found the screw in the tire. Even though they were very busy after the historic NY floods, Carlos took the time to cover my seat with plastic and a carpet cover. I went across the street for a cup of coffee and upon my return, the tire was repaired. NO Charge because I bought all 4 tires there. I needed 2 new front tires for my FWD car last week and set an appointment for 11:30am. When I set my appointment online, I also selected the exact tires I wanted to purchase and have installed. I arrived a few minutes before my appointment and went inside to inform them of my arrival. An employee pulled me up in their system and confirmed my appointment. He also asked me if I wanted to have my alignment done and I said "sure". When I asked him how long it would take, he said they should have everything done by 12:30 or 1:00pm as it takes approximately 20 minutes per tire. Okay, so that math doesn't add up since I arrived at 11:30am but I didn't question it and grabbed a seat by the small TV. From there, I could also peer into the garage to glance at my car while they were doing the install. Half an hour went by and there was still no sign of my car in the garage. They finally drove my car into the garage around noon. At around 12:30 I looked over and saw that my 2 front tires had been removed. I stood at the window and watched another 15-20 minutes go by before anyone reappeared to do anything. As I continued to wait, it dawned on me that I hadn't even asked how much the alignment would cost. Another employee (not the one who checked me in) said it would be around $80 so I left it at that. Fast forward to around 1:00pm and they finally had my 2 new tires on. At that point, they moved it into another bay to get the alignment done. At around 1:30pm, the work was finally done, and I went to pay & grab my keys. When the 2nd rep rang me up, he told me my total and I asked him if he could break down the cost as it seemed more than I was estimating. Since I had preset my appointment, selected my tires, and saw the cost for those before I arrived, I wasn't expecting to hear the number he threw. When I went around the desk to look at the breakdown, I noticed that the cost of the alignment was rung up as $129.99! When I asked him why, he said he wasn't sure since the 1st rep was the one who entered that into the system. The 2nd rep went and spoke to the 1st rep and knocked the price down to $89.99..."just like that". Now this is where I furrowed my brow while thinking if they were trying to pull a fast one on me. Shame on me for not asking the price of the alignment to begin with but shouldn't the 1st rep have also taken a second to let me know the price? Being that I didn't ask beforehand or look anywhere else to see how much another service center would have charged for an alignment, I didn't balk at the $89.99 the 2nd rep adjusted it to. Lesson learned here is to ALWAYS verify the cost for such things either by calling ahead (if not advertised, which it wasn't) or before you hand them the keys to your car! I've been to this Mavis location many times over the years, and all in all, they've always done a decent job, but they have also always been extremely slow. I was most displeased with the latest visit due to the "confusion" over the alignment pricing but it reminded me to be thorough in my dealings, as I would suggest anyone be when taking their vehicle in for servicing anywhere, be it to a dealership, local shop, tire center, etc. I still have half a mind to call them back again to see what they say over the phone what they would charge for an alignment. read more

My tire warning light came on and I brought my car in today to Mavis in New Hyde Park- being a female and I know nothing about tires I worried about the cost for this visit. I waited in the waiting room and when my car was ready the service man printed a receipt and I asked " How much?" He replied "No charge! It was your tire inflation and it set off the sensor!" I was so shocked and pleasantly surprised- that even so- there was no charge for their time to figure this out! This is not the first time I have used this facility and will not be the last! My family has been bringing our cars here for years. The manager Ron is helpful and responsive and takes time to talk on the phone. I came here on a Saturday morning to get my brakes done. $100 cheaper than dealership, before tax, and includes a lifetime warranty. I went for a oil change. Mike( I believe that was his name) was super friendly and chaged my oil super quick. He was friendly and courteous. I would recommend Mavis for your car needs. Especially for ladies. They are transparent with the pricing and breakdown the charges. They don't try to sell you things just because like other places. Being a woman most places think you don't know better. Here at Mavis you tell them what you need done and that's it. If you have other issues with your car, they will answer. This location is absolutely ridiculous and I will never recommend this location to anyone. I hit a pothole on Sunday morning on Hillside Avenue and my two front tires blew out. I brought my car to Mavis Discount Tire and the place was packed. He said it was a 2 hr wait so I left my car there. They told me the car will be ready by Monday. I got a call on Monday and Louis answered the phone. Another coworker answered the phone and said my tire will be coming from the warehouse in New Jersey. It won't be coming here until tomorrow. So I said ok. Then Ron called me on Tuesday leaving a message that my tires wont be in until THURSDAY. This location is so incompetent and unprofessional. I called and I believe Ron answered the phone. He got upset to my response to the bad news and had the nerve to hang up the phone on me. Then he recommended for me to get two tires that are a half size bigger if i wanted the car today. After, he recommended that I get all tires replaced with the same size. So whats the point? He wanted to upsell me. Then I asked him no other location has around? Are you sure? He said yes ma'am no place has them. We are positive. Then my friends husband said try STS tires. I called them and they found my tire right away in the Mavis in Franklin Square because I realized that Mavis and STS are sister companies. I will absolutely never return to this mavis because they lied to me. The Franklin Square location had my tires without any issues. Thank God for Russ in the Franklin Square location! I went to the Mavis in New Hyde Park to pick up my car and they threw out my tires. So my car had two missing tires and the tow truck refused to tow it because the tow truck said my car would be damaged. Then the manager of the Mavis in New Hyde Park complained that the AAA tow guy was lazy and he could of took the vehicle. So the staff put my spare on it and put another donut they had in the shop. Horrible experience. I went to get a wheel alignment, they took over 2 hours for a standards Toyota Corolla. After the 2 hours they said their alignment machine wasn't working and left my steering wheel pointing to the right way out of alignment. They left my car worse than when I came in. 1.5 stars...rounded down. I have come to this store twice in the past, both ONLY because the tires needed to be replaced ASAP. The only reason why its getting 1.5 stars is because compared to the tire stores nearby, they tend to quote you fairly low. It is still not as low as the deals you can get at Costco but i digress, i live nowhere near Costco. As stated, I came here a few years ago for a tires on a beater Camry and most recently for my baby G35X. Both times they wanted to replace shocks and struts on 1 of the wheels... Really? Shocks and struts on a 3 year old vehicle with mostly highway driving? I regularly get my car serviced and tires rotated by the dealer (cause I am a newb) why is this the first time I am hearing about it? Also, after i got my car back and drove it off the lot, i noticed the steering was INCREDIBLY light. i would equate it to driving on ice... I go back to find out they did not do the allignment right...did they even do the alignment? w t f? Did i mention the wait times? the original new tires + balance + alignment (Which they did not do properly, or probably didnt do) took 1 extra hour to complete than they stated. When i went in to get the alignment redone, it also took TWO HOURS. There was only ONE OTHER PERSON in there besides me. Lastly, as a warning. the dude in there aside from me came in to get new tires only to be told his engine would not start after. He was flippin out and rightly so. If i overheard correctly, 1 of the "technicians" knocked something loose and instead of not doing his job right decided to tell the car owner the key was busted. If you are coming here because its an emergency i understand. If not, go to tire rack, sears auto or Costco. this place is garbage. read more

I needed one tire replaced since I ran over something and punctured the side. I was told it would take about 1.5 hours to replace the tire. I made an appointment and came in to the building. The rep asked for my tire size and I went to look, when I came back to give it to him he said, "They will check it when they pull it in." After watching other vehicles that arrived after me get serviced before mine, I went up to the counter and I was told I was next. One hour and 40 minutes later, I was told that they only had one tire for my vehicle but that they could not have it delivered until the next day. 1 hour and 40 minutes for that? The rep said they were "very busy and it's better than taking it to a dealer because I would have waited all day." I'm taking my business elsewhere. Such a waste of time for everyone. I would have appreciated this information when I first arrived for this appointment. I will not be returning. read more

My car is 11 years old soon so things start to fall apart and need some maintenance work. I brought my car in for an estimate. Nick is so great. He even gave me a ride to my work nearby so I wouldn't need to ask for a ride from coworkers. Their estimate was pretty close to what my dealer told me, but the price was more affordable. They fixed my car literally the same day including brake, shocks, ....Mel also gave me a discount for the total work. I am very happy with their service. They treat you like friends. RED ALERT! WARNING! STAY AWAY! USE ANY OTHER TIRE STORE THAN MAVIS DISCOUNT TIRES I am proof that ALL Mavis Discount Tire stores are terrible and have rude and repulsive employees. It's the worst customer service I have ever experienced in my entire life. It has to be a systemic problem for people at different stores to act the same way. I went to one Mavis store and encountered a disgusting, nauseating employee. I left and went to another Mavis nearby. They were just as bad! Does Mavis teach them how to be mean and nasty? Or the employees left unsupervised and think they can act and say whatever they want? Well, thank god for Yelp. Now the customer has a voice. I left my tire to be fitted and was told I'd get a call in 2 hours. After 3 hours I had to call them. I explained to RON at the Hillside Ave store that I had been there earlier in the day, left my tire to be fitted and was there to have it installed. I gave him my name, he typed it in to the ancient computers they have (dot matrix printer, anyone!) - and thought I just walked in for the first time. Told me it would be two hours - even though I waited three hours for the fitting. When I acted surprised he started with the "Sir, calm down..." It was all his fault and I was told to calm down. Another employee came over and I was done and out the door in ten minutes. Big surprise, RON didn't even look at me to apologize. 1 day plus 2 stores plus 3 stomach-churning employees equals 0 times I will ever use a Mavis Discount Tire store again! read more

Well if you want to throw money out the window this is the place to go. Brought my car here last month for balance and alignment with tire rotation. Got a call that rear brakes were shot, told I needed new ones; declined to have them replaced but told them to go ahead with balance and alignment. Picked up my car and it ran worse than when I brought it in. Was then told that it was the motor mount. Again declined them to do the work. Just picked up my car from my mechanic...... rear brakes fine; no need to replace. He said there was no way that they did an alignment and that motor mounts where fine. All it needed was proper tire rotation and balancing to fix the problem. Oh and the woman that answers the phone......needs to learn phone etiquette. I went to the location at 500 Hillside Avenue NHP yesterday. I have a medical condition and cannot wear a mask for health reasons. From the moment I set foot in the store, the young lady behind the counter started in with me. I explained to her that I am not able to wear a mask and that I even had the doctor's note with me. She went and got the manager and he started screaming at me to get out of the store. This psycho then took a disinfectant spray and started spraying it in my direction. He then stepped to the work area, pulled down his mask and lit up a cigarette. When I started yelling back about how he and his other co-workers were not wearing a mask he came back in and locked the door on me. He then actually called the police and two Nassau County police cars arrived. This location is a nightmare ! Today I went to another Mavis location at 255-25 Jericho Tpke and the manager and staff could not have been nicer. They treated me with total respect. Go to that location instead so you wan't have to deal with the lunatics at this location. read more

I always seem to have an issue no matter what location I go to when it comes to this business. I came to this place to get a flat tire fixed and that went fine. But shortly after getting on the road I noticed my steering wheel shaking like crazy. Which told me that the tire they put on was not balanced correctly. I couldn't drive more than 40mph. I couldn't go back that same day so I needed to wait a few days to get it fixed. They couldn't do it for me. So I went to the great Neck location to get it rebalanced. I was told to come in at 8am as soon as they opened and that it would be taken of. I waited OVER TWO HOURS because apparently everybody called out that day. Two hours. When I showed up as soon as they opened. I'm leaving this negative review for the location on hillside though because if they had just put my tire on correctly in the first place when giving me a new tire than I wouldn't have had to come back and wait all this time. read more

BEWARE!! I took my car to Mavis in New Hyde Park for tires, I always like patronizing local businesses. When they called me a few hours after leaving the car, I was told that I needed front and rear brakes, my struts were leaking and the brake fluid was dirty. I found this hard to believe since I just had the car in to the dealer for scheduled maintenance only 2 weeks prior. In checking my maintenance history records, I saw that both the front and rear brakes had been replaced just 10 months ago, for a total of 9,000 miles. Just for my own peace of mind, I took my car back to the dealer to be checked out. They immediately showed me that the brake fluid was clean and that my brake pads were fine, there was plenty left, I was told on average my car should get between 20 to 30 thousand miles. This isn't a matter of opinion, you either need brakes or you don't and in this case, it isn't even close! But I left the car so that the struts could be checked by a mechanic. Well, I just called the dealer and they told me the struts were bone dry, they are NOT leaking and none of the issues that were indicated by Mavis required attention. Amazing! While I'm glad that my car doesn't require the so-called repairs Mavis tried to sell me, I was inconvenienced by having to drive 20 miles to my car dealer and get a loaner car so I could go to work. And now I have to drive back to get my perfectly sound car. All because Mavis wanted to rip me off. Don't make the mistake of going to Mavis of New Hyde Park unless you enjoy paying for unnecessary repairs. I will say this on the positive side, the 4 tires I got appear to be round. read more

ok...so heres another update. yesterday i went to the mall, and parked in the lower lever. when i returned to my car after a couple of hours...one of brand new tires was completely flat. a quick glance with a flashlight showed i had driven over a screw. crap. so i get out my spare and my jack, i go to take the lugs off and....nope. these guys way way WAY overtightened the lugs. i actually broke the socket trying to loosen them. i called aaa and he broke 3 tire irons trying to remove the lugs off my tire. i finally had to have the car towed, which wound up costing 60 bucks. now i just got off the phone with the shop...they've been trying for over an hour, using an impact wrench and torches...and they still cant get it off. so now not only did mavis break my door...but they have cost me at least $150 and hours and hours of my time because they dont know how to turn the pressure down on their impact hammer. even though im sure they get asked every single day to not over tighten the lugs. these guys are a complete and utter fail. read more

I ordered 4 brand new tires for my suv and the price for reasonable and fair. My appointment was for Saturday morning and everything went as scheduled.. They pulled my car in and I should be on my way. I needed 4 tires replaced and they asked if I wanted an alignment done for $79.99.. I said sure.. I told them that I will wait. 15 minutes later the short dark skin fella with the glasses, I didn't get his name but he had to be ranked higher because he was wearing the white shirts. He called me over and told me that I need new shocks for front and rear.. I asked all four.. He hesitated and said yes, and that mavis can get it done for about $800.. I was amazed that all four of My shocks and struts can be blown since I changed them 2 weeks ago and have abt 10 miles on them. Better yet since they are gas shocks if they were bad they would be leaking oil. Guess what!!! They were bone dry..sucks that I have a clue abt cars because if it was someone else, they would've made an extra $800 bucks.. UP-SELL CITY. This place STILL employs that older-than-dirt tactic of offering reasonable estimates but then 'discovering' a host of problems that you never knew your car had! It's utterly amazing how many minor issues their mechanics find whenever you bring your car there. I brought my SUV there a few times for various services (including replacing all shocks-and-struts, a service that I now feel was likely unnecessary), but stopped going because I simply got tired of the never-ending litany of nonsense. If they give you a good quote on a repair, then go for it - their mechanics are fine. However, be prepared to get a phone-call listing a dozen problems they'd 'recommend' you get fixed while the car is there. If you're prepared to ignore and laugh-off this classic sales technique, then you should be in good shape.. read more

This is by far the worst tire place I've ever been to. I have been here for 1 hour and my car is now being taken care off. Just so you know there was only on car being taken care off while theirs 6 people working 2 are on the phone 1 is sitting on the steps 1 is eating at the desk 1 is working on a car and one has gone missing. To top it all off the guy at the front desk told the guy changing the wheel on my car the wrong one to replace. What a waste of time. He forgot to oil the tire to have it go easier onto the rim SMH. How do you work here and mount a tire wrong... Never again. It get better my alarm keeps going off because they did not silence the alarm so every time the car gets touched the alarm goes off. Was hoping to get an inspection done on a Sunday since Mavis was open and my local mechanic was closed. Sure enough, I get the phone call saying I needed to repair both lower control arms to pass inspection with parts @ $210 per control arm. Stop right there please, declined took car to local mechanic the next day, no issue what so ever with the control arms. What a waste of time, if someone brings a car in for an inspection granted it's no money for the shop but it's a NYS mandated service no need to upsell. Now my time was wasted and it's obvious that Mavis NHP Hillside is an upsell shop. read more

second time at Mavis. Couple weeks ago new tires installed and wheel allignment and oil change. Saturday had rear drum brakes installed, Leon told me I need brake fluid flushed. Showed me why. It really did. Never feel pressured with them. Appt was 9:30 but I got there before 8am...by 9 am i was out. I had ordered my own parts for front discs and he showed me how wrong the part was.
