Just to be clear this is actually 0 stars. I have brought my car here several times over the last few years for everything from inspections and oil changes to $1,000-$1,500 repairs. Today I get 15 minutes from home and the whole dashboard lights up. Fine, I'll call Mavis. Try to select the option on the phone menu to talk to the desk. I do this 5 times. Bait and switch. I'd give zero stars if I could. I made an appointment on 01/18 for 9AM on 01/19. I was asked to pay a $25 deposit to hold the tires I chose. I was given a balance due on the website ($874.92). I arrived at 8:40AM. At 9AM I was told the tires I reserved were not in stock, and was offered a lesser tire. I needed the tires in a timely fashion, so I agreed to the lower grade product. When I was given the price the lower grade tires were only ~$50 less than the tires I was supposed to get. When I asked why, I was told that they couldn't have honored the price I was quoted online for the original tires, and they would have charged me $1012.00. They said that they are a franchise and not responsible for the corporate website, and that this problem "happens all time." I called corporate and was told that because the Rhinebeck store is a franchise, "there is absolutely nothing we can do to help," and the local store is responsible for giving the price quoted online. Because they blame each other, I'll let the NYS Attorney General's Office sort it out. My instinct tells me that corporate and their website is to blame, but after this, I wouldn't trust any Mavis location. read more

My tire needed to be replaced/repaired immediately. The people at Mavis did that and more. They also found and solved a problem when taking off my tire. I was missing a brake caliber bolt!! Without that fix, it would be extremely dangerous for me to drive. Now, my Jeep is driving better than ever. On top of all of that, the price was astonishingly cheap. Very professional scammers. They take hours to replace one tire tube, then tell you they are going to install the sensor too, charge you $100+ and then when you realize they didn't install any sensor at all, they will say "try more miles and the light will turn off, the sensor is fine". 900 miles after the light is still on, you might try to go and have a word with them to get your money back or actually to get them to install the real thing, but they will say "you need to replace the sensors for all wheels so that it will work". A great deal of bait and switch. Went in to have my snow tires mounted and, surprise surprise, they "discovered" my rear brakes were in terrible shape. I was risking life and limb if I didn't have them swap them out immediately. Their business model is dependent on the customer's ignorance about cars. They assume you know nothing and if they throw some technical jargon at you, peppered with some scary adjectives ("dangerous," "failure," "risk,") you'll throw your hands up, say "whatever you need to do," give them your credit card and hope for the best. Just don't do it. There are so many other options nearby. Options that are honest, competent, won't give you the run around, or tell you and hour and deliver in three. Brought my car into my normal mechanic a week later for an oil change and, guess what, I still had half of my brake pad to go. I wouldn't need to replace them for another 6 months. read more

Car broke down and was towed there late in evening. They diagnosed the problem but couldn't fix it. Car had to stay there three days til I could tow it to next shop. Kingston store will only fix your car half way what ever the problem is so you have to return. If you give them a problem they send you away. Gave me a quote over the phone for 4 tires that was much lower than what I had to pay. they failed to mention that the quote they gave me over the phone did not include the cost of installation ! Then, they told me I needed to replace my brakes. I declined. I left the store with very loose breaks whereas they were totally fine on arrival . I don't understand the negative comments. It's a good repair shop. They warranty their work and parts. They are pleasant and have a clean place. Instead of complaing here or on other media just talk to them face to face and discuss your grievances. Make them see your side of the issues. Went from bad to worse.... brought my car for inspection, check a tire we had concerns about, and rotate all tires. Told the manager to replace the the tire if needed since it had been previously plugged They call me and tell me the car needs rear disc's and pads, but otherwise is fine. I approve the repairs and ask about the tires. They tell me the tires are fine, no issues I go to the shop, pay the bill and they give me the keys. I walk to the car and see there is no inspection sticker on the car. I go back in to learn the car failed emission test, car wasn't ready?. They ask if I changed the battery, I say no. They tell me to drive the car around and come back. The systems needs to reset I drive the car towards Home. That's when the the rear brakes starts to smoke. Turn around and take it back. The caliper "blew up". They ask if I had any issues with the brakes, I say no. They say they have to see if they can get parts. I ask about he inspection, they say it still needs time to get ready, but now share why it failed. They tell me it's a O2 sensor. Once they fix the breaks, I drive to a auto parts store and get the O2 sensor, They install it, then tell me I have to drive the car more before they can recheck the emissions. I take the car Home resigned to have to drive it more. I come out in the morning to a flat tire... the same tire they said they checked and rotated! They never check d it, and n ver rotated tires Needless to say this Mavis store is bad, incompetent and unfortunately lied about work they did. I finally went to another shop and had the inspection and tire issue resolved in under 30 minutes I won't go back again... and if your value your time and money, either will yo You Just Can't Make this up.... after the last nightmare experience with Mavis I swore I wouldn't go back, but I still needed a tire( the reason I first went to Mavis) . So I looked up tires online, found STS in Kingston. Found the tire I wanted, and against my better judgement I decided I would try a Mavis spin off. I rationalized maybe it was just the one store... I called the "Call Center" reserved the tire, and made a noon appointment. I show up fifteen minutes early for my appointment , speak with a manager who tells me they don have the tire, and I don't have an appointment. But he can get one tonight or he could sell me a better tire now... you can't make this up I knew better, but let down my guard. What a horrible bussiness. These guys are the best. I had a slow leak in my back tire and for them it was a quick fix and they didn't charge me. $0 bill for 20 min of work by them. My tire valve was loose and they fixed it. Theyre overwhelmingly nice and take care of their customers. Other reviews complaining about the time it takes for a fix gimme a break. A good job takes time. read more

Mavis just helped me out again! My wife's VW Jetta needed 4 summer tires installed and NYS inspection. The dealership where she bought it was too busy to install tires, but Mavis got the summer tires on, and inspection done! They didn't even charge for the install as tires were balanced and mounted . Inspection fee only! They are locally owned as a franchise, but not a corporate ownership dealer...so they CARE about your satisfaction. They've always helped me out to my full satisfaction. Really? You can make an appointment? That wasn't my experience today. I called Mavis yesterday to make an appt. in Rhinebeck for an oil change. I was told I could bring the car in at 12. End of story? Absolutely not! I was at Mavis in Rbk. at 12 on the dot. But I was told by Matt at the customer service desk (oxymoron?) that they don't take timed appointments. And that he didn't have me scheduled. I explained that I had called and made an appointment. He said I had called Kingston. But I asked the man I had talked to if he was at the Rhinebeck Mavis. He said yes. If this is confusing, it is. Matt said I was in luck, that I had gotten there before 1:00 and that they could do the work. I asked about when it might be done. He said they were busy and it might be four or five hours and they would call when it was done or if there were any issues. OK fair enough. But at 4:00 he had no idea but probably late. I asked how late they stayed open. He said till the last car is done. I called again at 6:00. No it wasn't in yet. I asked how late - he couldn't tell me. So I said I would come and get it. Wait - I am next he said. And I asked about when it would be done. He didn't know but they would call me. None of this made any sense to me. And not wanting to have my car left there over the weekend I went and got it. Moral of the story? Never, never make an appointment at Rhinebeck Mavis. Joe was incredible. So pleasant and helpful. But, five hours to get my tires changed? A heads up would have been appreciated.

I brought my 2006 Mercedes with 90k+ miles on it in for an inspection and to have my front tires re-balanced. They failed me for the inspection because 1. the front wheel bearings needed to be tightened and re-packed and 2. one of the rear tires has slight cut on it near the rim. Today I took my MB to a repair shop owned by ex MB dealership technicians that I have known and trusted for years. They said that my wheel bearings should be tightened and repacked, but that is not a NYS safety inspection issue. As for the tire, they agreed that the tires would need to be replaced soon because of tread wear (though they were still above the wear bars and had at least 3/32" of treads left), but the cut was what they called a "flapper." Basically a thin slice rubber had been cut from the fattest part of the tire. The cut was not deep and did not expose any cords. They would not have failed the car for this tire. Bottom line: these guys are apparently using NYS inspections to force their customers to do unnecessary or at least non-critical repairs. P.S. To Mavis' credit, they reached out to me and asked for more information so they could check into it. Then the zone manager called me and offered to give me his number in case of any future issues. I had emailed (in response to their initial inquiry) that I would not accept any rebates for editing my review. However, they deserve recognition for paying attention to customer feedback. I will go back there for tire work in the future. And, to be fair, the items cited for failing the safety inspection did need attention. They just didn't warrant failing the NYS safety inspection. read more

The tires may or may not be cheap, but when you factor in the expensive repairs to your car that they will strongly advise but which are completely unnecessary (or that will, as in the case of one of our cars, actually make it worse) then Mavis is TOTALLY NOT WORTH IT. They have done my brakes, rotors, and yes, tires for years. (I never even saw a Mavis brand tire there so I don't know what the other reviewer was talking about.) Saved! My front tire blew on Sunday morning on my way to my church gig. I tried to the tire changed at the Cortlandt location on a Sunday but was told it would be a three hour wait. I had another concert 60 miles upstate with a rehearsal starting in 1 1/2 hours. I drove on the donut to the Rhinebeck location. I was told to come in for a set of tires no wait, When I got to the Rhinebeck Mavis tires I noticed every bay was occupied and told by Manager Statts that there was no way i would get tires that day but i could leave my vehicle over night. I explained to Manager Statts that I spoke to a guy named Tony that said it would only be about an hour wait if i came in. I was told by Manager Stats that calls don't come directly to the store that they go to a call center that gave me an appointment that the store could not honor. After getting new tires I had to go back twice since the pressure gauge light continued to stay on after i left the shop. when i called about it and when i went in, no one apologized or acknowledged the inconvenience.
