I took my car for an oil change for the first time at Mavis Discount Tire in Sayreville. They were quick, efficient, and it all done with a friendly attitude. They checked other fluids as a courtesy. I felt confident leaving knowing my car was properly serviced and the price was very reasonable. After asking questions, being that was my first time there, the assistant manager, J Rule, (I'll never forget his name ) was so nice to me, reassure me that he'll make sure my car is thoroughly checked before I leave. I needed an oil change, new tires, and a new battery. Had it all done at Mavis. So glad I was able and I have everything I needed for my car, in one spot. The service that I was provided with at this establishment was extremely unsatisfactory. I experienced manipulation, deceit, and fraud throughout the entirety of the procedure. This location is occupied by legitimate con artists. They quoted me a different price than what I was informed when I went to pick up the vehicle. Despite my objections, things I didn't want to be a part of it were included. Although they informed me that I was obligated to pay since the task had already been completed, they proceeded with its completion nonetheless. I ultimately settled for $600 as opposed to the quoted $300. The fact that this location is shady should be brought to the attention of all, without exception. read more

My wife from Delaware was visiting her daughter in South Amboy NJ and had a flat tire and went to Mavis tires. She was told that her tires were dry rotted and really needed all four tires. She bought 4 new tires and had them balanced and aligned, after paying and driving back to Delaware she notice the car steering wheel was vibrating while driving and the car wasn't right. After coming home and telling me I brought the car to Pepboys and had them look at the tires. All 4 tires were rebalanced and one wasn't even seated right which is a big safety issue and driving home on the NJ turnpike, (not good). I DO NOT RECOMEND this place to anyone. read more

I should have read the reviews first. I stopped in on a Wednesday because I know it usually not as busy. I had been going to this shop since the 1980's. It's really gone to crap since Mavis took it over. I left after waiting over an hour without getting my tire fixed. One customer before me spent over 5 hrs waiting for 4 new tires and then they ended up putting on the wrong ones. The only other customer before me spent 3 hrs waiting to get his tire patched. This was also a long time customer that said he would never come back. I left after the entire place shut down for their 3 pm lunch break. read more

If I could rate this a zero I would. My tire had a very small nail and needed a plug. I was told I needed to replace the tire. I took it somewhere else and they said a plug wasn't even needed. They try to rip you off to make a tire sale. They tried this with my brother and my husband. Don't recommend to anyone. read more

I went in for a routine replacement of 4 tires. I was told an hour and half wait was expected. I was called 20 minutes later and told my brakes were bad, which I was surprised by because I never felt anything wrong with the brakes at all. I was also told there was inside wear on the tire so my alignment was off. I inspected the tires myself prior to going in, and I did not notice any wear. I told the GM repeatedly I could not afford the extra work, to which he tried to lower the price 2 or 3 times. I finally agreed to the alignment, but not the brakes, he rescinded his offer at a discount because he said the discount would only be possible with a package deal. I returned to the store about an hour later, which would make my total time waiting about an hour and 20 minutes at this point. I waited for another hour where I was called to the register, and I was told that there was a mixup, and they forgot to tell the technician that I wanted alignment done as well, I was told I would have to wait another hour for the alignment to be done when I refused I was given an attitude by the man at the sales desk. I had already been waiting at this .2 hours and 20 minutes for a simple job when I finally got my car back and started driving my brakes felt completely different, I honestly don't know much about cars but I would hope that someone's better judgment would stop them from putting old brake pads on in hopes that I would return to get the job done. Overall a pretty terrible experience, and I would not recommend this place to my worst enemy. read more

I purchased 4 new tires from Mavis Discount Tire in South Amboy in February 2022. The staff was especially thorough and answered all of my questions. I needed to return 2 weeks later due to a question about my tire pressure readings on the instrument panel and the guys in the shop took care of me right away. The manager, Matt O'Brien was very accommodating and explained to me about the tire pressures and that they may need to be reset. The mechanics reset the tire pressures on my lunch hour and I was back at work in no time. The manager really was professional and helpful. Everyone was friendly. read more

Went for an oil change. Took almost 3 hours when I got there less than an hour after they opened so they weren't that busy. Gave me full synthetic oil instead of the blend that I asked for so I was charged more than I was suppose to be and his way of fixing it was giving me a $10 coupon I was already using. I brought my own tires with me and asked if they would mount and balance them. They said I was last in line and would have to wait awhile. I stayed anyway, and they got to me in maybe 20 minutes tops. The price to do this was even cheaper than the local mom and pop place. They did good work and even cleaned the rims on my car. Scheduled a maintenance request a week in advance for a full 4 tire replacement + alignment. When I had showed up, the business was short-staffed and my tires were on the truck to arrive late in the afternoon..my appointment was at 9am! I tried calling customer service who deferred me to the sales department in which there was no answer nor call-back received to reschedule.
