Booked an appt online and was called to confirm it, which I did. Then, received a call from the store a few days later with no voicemail. A few days later, I was running late to my appointment and called to reschedule. However, I learned through that phone call that they did not have my tires in stock but they had a different brand that they could install that day. Yes, 5 minutes before my appointment I was informed they did not have the tires I reserved. Upon arriving at the store, they clarified that the Continental VikingContact 8's I wanted had a $180 freight charge that I would have to pay if I still wanted them, and that they'd have to install it another day. They then suggested their other snow tires, the Blackhawk Ice Prey's, to put on my car that day. During my search for tires in previous weeks, I did not once come across the brand Blackhawk at my local tire stores. Even Mavis's own website does not have these tires. Upon doing some quick research in their store, reviews noted the tires were a budget tire and performed as such. The price at Mavis would've been barely cheaper than the more premium ones I had reserved without the freight charge. Other websites had the Ice Prey's cheaper than Mavis by over $70/tire. Overall disappointed at the lack of communication and the up charged pricing on the budget tires they were trying to sell me. At least their staff were kind and explained the situation to me when I got in the store. They also were understanding that I did not want to pay the price of premium tires for budget tires. I have had nice experiences with this location: pleasant people and efficient; however, not so much today! I missed a message from them telling me some tires I wanted were in and I said as much when I called. They had recommended in the last visit that I get shocks too so I asked the price and got told that I had already been given a price at the time (I hadn't because I declined the service!). Clearly aggravated, Brian gave me a price. I said then let's just do the tires. He said that they had been sent back, so I said thanks anyway and before I could say another word, he hung up on me. Right from the start of the call, he seemed intent on punishing me for having missed his message that the tires were in. Maybe he was having a bad day but I won't be back. Needed new tires for the Honda and stopped into Mavis in Byram, NJ just for some basic information on tire cost, availability, etc. Jose could not have been friendlier guiding us thru the whole process. I noticed how clean and neat the shop area was, which is a "big plus" for me. They were ready and willing to mount/balance/alignment the same day. Making an appointment for the following day, we had the tires installed. Highly satisfied with this Mavis location. In fact, they said bring it back after 25 miles to double check torque and proper tightness which we did. No problem and I would definitely return. read more

I had a flat and discovered more damage to rear tires. Ordered new tires and it took a couple days. While they had the car I said may as well change the oil. Picked car up two days later and while I was driving to work I heard a loud bang come from under the car. I pulled over and tried to look under car but could see anything. Thinking I'd run over something I continued on. Once up to speed same noise now it's a scraping noise too. Pulled over and the under post of the car is hanging down. Definitely wasn't like that when I brought the car in. I honestly don't want them touching the car again. If you can't put an underbody back on you shouldn't be working on cars. 3 hours from home, my day started with a flat tire that required towing and a repair at the Audi dealership in Newton. Took 3 1/2 hours. 60 minutes later that same tire is flat and it's 4 PM on a Saturday, with the next day being Easter Sunday (everything will be closed). I limp in 5 miles on a flat tire to this Mavis shop at the urging of Eli so they could help me out. While they didn't have my specific tire, this team of Eli, Bryon, and the technician change my tire and at least get me on a donut with 15 minutes to spare (before they close for the holiday weekend) so that my weekend isn't a total trainwreck of major costs and zero transportation. Not sure when these other reviews were written, but my experience was stellar. Couldn't be more grateful. Great guys. read more

I get my routine service performed here for my truck and have never been dissatisfied. They always go out of their way to cut me some sort of break or minor discount which you know, it helps! started 8 min before my scheduled appt time. after 2 and half hours my car was finished. I previously took my car to Walmart and had me in and out within 38 min. no reason a tire change should take 2.5 hours. no update no concern that the whole waiting room was empty after 5 people in front of me got their cars and were on their way. terrible service and will never be back. last Saturday I stopped at a car wash in Byram and had the valve stem ripped off by the tracks. Where to begin..... I came here today to get my wiper fixed (one wasn't working, I assumed I just blew a fuse), and went in early. They said they were gonna start checking it out right away. Come back an hour and a half later (expected), said the whole thing needs to be replaced, it's gonna be like $650+......okay, I thought about leaving and just going to a dealer to get this done if it's "major work", but decided to stay. Hours go by, and I'm wondering if I'm getting my car back today. Get the car back, and they put new wipers on it for an extra $40. Okay, now I'm angry because I just spent $20 to replace them last week (bought them at NAPA of Stanhope for $20). So I call over pretty peeved and basically say "Give me back my wipers." Well, I got back wipers, but they sure as hell ain't the ones I had on there. So now I'm out $20 and a set of wipers. If you have a bin of wipers you throw all of them into, at least own up to it and say "We lost your wipers." Don't just give out two random wiper blades and say "You bought the wrong ones." Because streak marks on the windshield from the one day both worked don't lie. These guys are horrible. We had to TOTAL a previous car because they couldn't catch a minor problem that turned into the engine cracking. I'll be surprised if the wipers last the week, AFTER I go pay ANOTHER $20 at NAPA for another set. Giving a one star for these guys to me feels like a good deed. On a year old Jeep with only 18k miles. Decided to buy 4 new tires from here because of appointment ease. I ordered the tires through their website at 192.99/tire and I also booked a balance and alignment. Apt took forever and they ended up charging me 204.99/tire without being told so. Car drove horribly after so I went back a couple days later, they worked on it again, again with no one telling me what they did, and when I got it back they had broken my drivers side window switch so I could no longer roll down my windows. Car still drove horribly/shaking/felt no control, after that I decided to take it to a dealer, where they confirmed no balance or alignment was ever done and I had to pay again. I was going to travel with car so I just did it, car drove perfectly after that and they replaced window master switch. Will never return to Mavis after this complete headache. read more

An update on my review of Mavis Stanhope. If I could give zero stars I would! When I took my car in for an oil change and to check my tire because it was low (I thought there may be a nail in it) they brought me into the shop and showed me that there was a small gash on the sidewall of my front passenger side tire. They informed me that I should replace 3 tires but I said no, I'm unemployed for over a year just replace the tire with the damaged sidewall. ..well when my car was finished I didn't look at my tires because of course I assumed they put a brand new tire on..about a week ago I came out to the driveway and noticed that the "supposed" new tire was going flat. When I went to look at it I saw that they never replaced the damaged tire! So I have been driving around for months in danger of having a blowout because of this damaged sidewall with a gash in it. After my first complaint with Yelp I was told to call HR and they assured me that the regional manager would contact me. HE NEVER DID! I needed new brakes so I took it to the Mavis that I had been going to for 20 years, which is an hour away, but after the lying, scheming thieves at Mavis Stanhope I made the drive. I showed them the bill with the sensors in my aforementioned complaint and the manager of my usual Mavis said there is nothing wrong with your sensors you did not need them replaced! I think it may be time to go to small claims court since public relations did nothing about my first complaint. read more

9/16/21 was my 3rd visit to the Stanhope, NJ Mavis location in 3 years and it was certainly the last. Each time they have found ways to charge for unanticipated services. This visit was for 2 front tires and front brakes, an alignment and an oil change. I dropped my car off at 10AM, was called and told it would be ready by 4PM, but it wasn't done until after 6. Two problems: an $80 charge for brake line flushing which was never requested nor even discussed at all. The manager claimed it was part of the brake job(NOT!) and refused to remove the charge. When I asked for the alignment report, they feigned regret and claimed they had forgotten to print it. When I demanded the report, they had to make 45 minutes worth of adjustments to my car to generate one. They claimed the road test changed the settings from the alignment they had done earlier that afternoon. Really? I don't believe any alignment had ever been done and only because of the service I witnessed was a report able to print. read more

I stopped by telling them my elderly parents had a flat tire a couple miles away, and i was headed over to take tire off would you be able to fit me in to your schedule to repair flat? Went in to purchase 2 tires. I was given a price of $101.50 per tire, plus mounting and balancing. I said ok let's do it. When I got the bill, I was charged $13.50 x2 for TPS service and another $6.99 x2 for valve stems. I'm no idiot, was a mechanic for 27+ years. Valve stems aren't replaced because it's a tire monitoring system. There is no servicing. There is also no need to replace the inners of the valve stem if there isn't a leak to begin with. I watched the guy remove my inners of the valve stem and reinstall the same ones. I had an appointment for Thursday at Discount tire up the road. My lack of patience cost me an extra $50. Lesson learned. Beware of hidden charges at this location. read more

If I could give it zero stars I would based on the customer service I received over the past two days. I brought my car in as one of the tires that I bought from this location was losing air. I was told that the issue was a faulty stem and that it was fixed. Unfortunately, the tire was flat again the next morning. I called and was told to bring it in at 1:00 PM so that I did not have to wait behind the 12 customers that were already waiting at the store. I arrived on time and received a serious attitude from a gentleman that stated he was the manager of the store. The "manager" repeatedly asked me who I spoke to as he pointed to the cars already there. He explained that I would have to wait as long as it takes, and again asked who I spoke with. The rest of the conversation was heated to say the least. I called him out on his passive aggressive behavior, and his failure as management to take responsibility for the failure to address the issue originally . Management failed to work with the me as the customer to find a solution that was acceptable to both and appeared to be more interested in an argument. I have used this location for 20 plus years and will not be returning anytime soon. There's plenty of places to buy tires. There's no reason to have to get an attitude from a manager of a store that you're trying to give business to. read more

I have to say that every time I've been to this location, which is several times, I've had good service and fair prices for tire mounting and flat tires, etc. They're friendly and if they can get to your flat tire right away. I recommend this place, even when it's busy. read more

We had a great experience here with customer service and our car. Very big thank you to Gary and Tom. We brought in our car Wednesday due to the thermostat going up after we'd hit 60mph. They did a thorough diagnosis and thankfully the thermostat did not need to be replaced. We thought it did and anyone could have told us that if they had wanted to. We appreciate their honesty and great customer service. They charged us a very minimal fee and we left with the problem solved. Can't thank u enough. read more

I am writing this to share my horrific experience with Mavis Discount Tire, in Byram (Stanhope), NJ in the hopes that other consumers steer clear of their shoddy workmanship. It could literally be a matter of your, or someone else's life, or death. On Wednesday October 7th, 2020, I took my vehicle to Mavis for an oil change.  When the oil change was complete, a technician advised me that I needed new brakes and a new exhaust system. I declined the work, paid my bill and left. On Sunday, October 11th, 2020,  while I was driving my van at approximately 45 MPH, my left front wheel fell off. The wheel released with such force that it crossed a lane of traffic, hit an embankment and flew back into the lane I was traveling in. It also completely demolished the front right of my vehicle as it tried, and eventually succeeded, to leave the wheel well. The vehicle was damaged beyond repair.  I am very fortunate that when my van went out of control and crashed to the ground, that I was able to bring it to a stop before hitting another vehicle or pedestrian.  The wheel was a lethal projectile as it flew across traffic and in front of other drivers.  I feel very fortunate that the other drivers were able to dodge the wheel without having or causing another accident.  It could have ended tragically for many. When the police officers arrived, they noted that all of the lug nuts were missing from the vehicle. Three of them were recovered at the scene. It was apparent that the lug nuts were left loose, eventually causing them to fail. On Monday, October 12th, I went to Mavis to inquire about the work they did on my van. I asked  Tommy Miller, Store Manager, how his Technician would have known that I needed new brakes. Mr. Miller  told me that they took my wheels off to make that determination.  I asked him if it was customary to remove a customer's tires when an oil change is requested.  Mr. Miller provided a lengthy explanation about Mavis's "company policy" to always remove tires and check customer brakes any time a vehicle comes in. He said this is done for "safety reasons."  I proceeded to show him pictures of my accident and the damage to my vehicle.  He left the counter to phone his General Manager. Mr. Miller returned after speaking with the General Manager and informed me that footage from the garage cameras would be reviewed to determine if the proper protocol was followed and whether my lug nuts were tightened properly.  I asked him for the General Managers name and number and he refused to provide it. Three hours later Mr. Miller called me back and told me the footage was viewed and that the tires were never taken off of my van.  I asked him to view the film and he said the only way that would be possible is if I had my attorney subpoena Mavis for the footage.  I asked again for his General Manager's information to which he replied he was in charge, and that I was not entitled to the General Manager's information.  He further stated that the General Manager instructed him to tell me that he would not speak with me. He said that if I wanted to access the General Manager it had to be done through my lawyer who would need to contact Mavis's lawyer. I had my attorney contact Mavis.  I received no contact at all from Mavis from the time that I left the store on Monday October 12th until October 26th.  For those two weeks Mavis did not express any concern for the events that took place at the result of their negligence.  I'm a single mother of 4 kids and desperately needed my van to get to work, get my kids where they needed to be, etc. On October 27th, Mavis's Regional Director came to my home and inspected my vehicle.  He acknowledged that his technicians were responsible and was very apologetic.  Shortly after he left my home, the Regional Director called me and asked me if we could work out an agreement without lawyers involved.  I declined. After several more weeks passed, Mavis's legal team offered to settle for a sum of money that would not even begin to cover the damage to my vehicle, never mind the inconvenience of being left without a source of transportation for my family for months. Further, they demanded I sign a non-disclosure agreement in exchange for the pittance they offered. Quite frankly, their offer was offensive and clearly demonstrated a lack of care for what they caused to happen to me and my vehicle. Through my attorney, I let Mavis know that their offer was not acceptable. I have also shared these comments with them along with full disclosure that I would make them public. To date, Mavis has not responded. They don't seem at all concerned that I will be exposing them for the incompetent and unprofessional business that they are, who nearly causing a catastrophe for many people.  It is coming up on 6 months since my accident and they continue to ignore me and to refuse to fairly compensate me. I am disgusted at the dishonesty, sheer lack of accountability and disinterest in making amends. read more

For a business that is suppose to "thrive on customer service" they are absolutely terrible. Brought brand new wheels to get tires mounted on them and balanced and they scratched and chipped the paint in multiple places. When the man that did them (tommy) came to "talk" to us about the issue he immediately was nasty, to the point of almost yelling at us about it. Yelling at us... about the scratches and chips that were no fault of ours. He then proceeded to (with an attitude) tell us "this is exactly why i dont work with local businesses" and that he "doesnt want to hear it". So if you are looking to pay full price for your stuff to get messed up because they dont care clearly... this is the perfect place to go. read more

So far, I'm not impressed. All I needed was 2 tires changed. I dropped my car off at 8 AM, the first customer of the day. They told me I could have my car back by noon. I called several time during the day and was told at 3PM the car was being worked on. The customer service person I spoke to said "I told you, you'll have it back by the end of the day" (I reminded him that was not true... noon was the promise). The store closed at 5 today and I still don't have my car. Don't appreciate being promised stuff that doesn't happen. Don't appreciate being treated as unimportant. Maybe they will lose business over this review and that will help them to keep future promises. read more

I wouldn't recommend this place even for an oil change. You would think it's impossible to screw up an oil change but they did. Incorrectly installed the drain plug by cross threading. The next morning had oil all over my driveway. Brought my truck to my regular mechanic and was told that whoever did my oil change last completely stripped out the oil pan threads and that I would need a new oil pan. Not a cheap job. After bringing my truck back to this place to see if they'd do something about it they refused to admit that they stripped the threads and gave me the most temporary fix possible, which means I'm going to have the get the expensive fix done with my regular mechanic. Tried blaming everything they possibly could to get the blame off of the actual cause of the problem, themselves. Had to argue with the managers. I would not risk bringing my nicer cars here for any kind of service. Save money/time with someone who has at least one good review. read more
