I went in for an oil change and they tried to charge me $81. I told them" I always pay $30 something for oil changes(which I get at the dealership for my car). The guy responded in a laughing matter "then they are not putting the right oil in your car". Why would the dealership where I got my car put the incorrect oil for my car? Needed new tires and had an 8am appointment. Got there at 7:45am and people already waiting outside, but i did not worry because I had an appointment. Imagine my frustration when the same employee that set up the appointment tells me at 8:15am that it would be a few hours before my car could be ready! " there are other customers and I'm wating for another guy", he told me. Just to make sure, I asked him if it meant it would not be ready until noon and he said "yeah". I went here a few times, and it's often a very long wait. I once called to get their price on their least expensive tires. I got 2 different answers from 2 different employees. I also brought my car for an alignment. My car was definitely not aligned after. I brought it back (about a 2 hour wait each time), and they gave me another one for free when they saw it was not aligned. It felt somewhat ok, but then I could tell it was pulling. This place used to be great, management changes vet the last couple of years has made it slowly decline. I was a big fan of Mavis and now I am done. When you have an appointment two weeks in advance and you wait 2 1/2 hours before your vehicle even rolls in is very frustrating. First question they ask,.... "Are you waiting?", well apparently whether I sit in the waiting area with an appointment or not, I am waiting. The manager threw the paper at me when I told him that couldn't be right. Brought it to a more reputable place that same afternoon and I passed the inspection and they confirmed all four tires were absolutely fine. DO NOT USE THIS PLACE TO HAVE YOUR CAR SERVICED!!!!! If I could give this place negative stars I definitely would ! I have had multiple problems with this location! My first experience with this Mavis was back in April, I had all four tires replaced, a few weeks later I experienced multiple flat tires. I removed the flat myself to look for any nails or objects that might have gotten lodged in the tire, I then took each tire to the local mechanic who couldn't find anything wrong with the tire. He concluded that the tires were not securely put on to the rim so air was escaping from the tire. My last experience was last week.. I thought maybe i'll give them another try. So I take my audi to get four new tires. I arrived at mavis at 9am, with a scheduled appointment at 9am! I ended up waiting three and a half hours, which is fine cause I have a lot of patience as long as I know something is going to get done correctly. I leave mavis and get home only to realize that they didnt place my lug nut caps back onto the rim on both the driver side tires. Now let me give you the math on that...each lug nut cap is worth $5, theres 5 caps on each tire, I was missing caps on two of my tires...thats $50 ! so I call mavis and tell them what happens, the guy goes to look around and comes back to tell me "oh well i only found 5 of your caps" and he expects me to be fine with that ... ABSOLUTELY NOT , youre not going to have me wait three and a half hours then get over $50 on me and expect me to drive all the way back to your location and only have half of my caps back. I didn't receive any type of apology for them losing and/or stealing my caps nor did the manager try to give me a resolution to the problem! So better believe I told them to order my caps and call me when they arrive! This location is very unprofessional and I will not be coming back. We always get our tires here. They're fair, honest and always get us in the same day. It's a very busy place, so we drop our vehicles off and pick them up when they're ready. That way, we don't have to worry about waiting. We could go somewhere that doesn't take walk-ins, make an appointment and wait but we're so busy that we'd rather just drop it off and go on with our day. These guys make sure we can do that without worrying they'll slap on unnecessary extras. It's nice to have a place we trust. read more

Updating my review on waiting five and a half hours for a tire repair: I had my car back in the shop today for a tire rod repair. I was told the repair would be covered under warranty and no charge for the alignment. I just had to pay $90 for labor. Upon picking up my car, I was charged nothing associated with the tire rod, just the oil change. I feel like I was fairly compensated for the hassle I endured earlier in the week. read more

Without a doubt one of the worst. Told two hour window for tire change, left, came back just under two hours later. They hadn't even moved my car from where I had left it. Fairly rude in providing rationale. Then, had employee jump in car a drive it in to garage where it sat, for another fifteeen minutes until I caught the manager ( who seemed to be trying to avoid me by not coming to front desk, also abandoned by clerk who told us it would take two hours) and told him to cancel order. Got my car back and left. Poor service at best. Another lost customer. Called Tire Rack, who provided expert advise, courteous service, better pricing and one day, free shipping. My mechanic will install and bottom line, for same tires, is about $10.00 difference. Even if if was $50.00 it would still be worth it. Never again will I make the mistake of going to big box like Mavis when I can order to be shipped local and have my car taken care of by a trusted, locally based business. read more

I waited two hours on a Saturday morning after making an appointment the previous day for an inspection. The manager who is a nice guy, (Pete) then tells me that they cannot do the inspection because the light is on reading check engine. OK lets fix it then......................Sorry we can't do that we don't have the capability to do it today. The sign on your door reads inspections done here. Don't even walk through those doors!! They are lying thieves and they do not care one iota about customer loyalty! I purchased tires from them less than a year ago and that went well. Suddenly, my car began to make loud noise that varied with the speed of the vehicle. I brought it back to Mavis, to rule out a problem with the tires. Joe asked which tire I thought it was coming from and I said it is hard to tell, I thought it was the front passenger side, but I wasn't sure. After a few minutes of checking the car on the lift, Joe told me "it was the wheel bearing making the noise and the reason you can't tell which side it is on is because it is both front tires that need repair at $325 EACH". He then said, "You need your brakes done also because these are really bad and the rotors need to be replaced too". Not trusting his face because he even looked shifty, I took it to an independent mechanic without telling him about my experience with Mavis and he said the brakes were still OK, but that the noise was coming from the front right tire because the bearing was bad. I asked about the left side and he said it was perfect. As a tie breaker, I bought the car to Johnson's Toyota and they, too said the right bearing was shot and we could do the brakes, but it wasn't really "needed" at the moment. Johnson's Toyota offered to do the work for about $1100.00!!! We went to Auto Zone in Washingtonville and purchased the parts to fix the bearing and decided to do the brakes while the tire was off. It may have taken an hour or two longer to do it without the lift etc., but for $200 the car is as good as new. I went back to Mavis yesterday and I told them that I could no longer use them because of their dishonesty and attempt to screw me out of my money for something they out and out lied about. Joe said "uuuh, well, I just went by what my mechanics tell me". I told him "I call bullshit". I said he lied to me either because I am a woman or because he thought I was just stupid. I said I would have been stupid if I took his lying word for it and had them do the unnecessary work. I then told him that they were the stupid ones to not care about customer loyalty which would have resulted in repeated business from me and my family. Called the store to get find out how long it would take to remove my snow tires and install my regular tires. I was told about 2 hours. I brought my car to the store to drop off and was told about 2 hours. I left the car there and called back 3 hours later. I was told no work was done and they needed a couple of more hours. I ended up picking up the car and plan on going somewhere else. I understand running a little late but telling a customer 2 hours and them changing to 5 hours is not right. On Sat 6/18/2016 I had a flat tire about 1/2 mile from the Mavis Tire Vails Gate store. I changed the tire with my donut spare and drove the 1/2 mile to Mavis Tire. I explained to the service representative what happened and all I needed was my flat tire repaired. To my surprise he advised that they could not do it and that they were all booked up for the day. I was completely disappointed since I was in a tire shop. This is probably a 15 minute job. At the minimum I thought the rep should have offered the option of leaving my tire and picking it up prior to closing or at least the next morning. No options were offered. He did not even ask if the tires on my car were purchased from Mavis. My advice is if you get a flat do not go to Mavis in Vails Gate for a repair, but try Monroe Muffler arounfd the corner. read more

When I showed up i was told it would be about an hour and a half wait despite the appointment and that there was 1 inspection ahead of me. Over an hour later, i decided id had enough. My husband called Mavis Discount Tire Thursday night and told them we needed 4 new tires on our Honda Civic. The man on the phone gave my husband the price of $80 dollars per tire plus labor.. We asked when we could bring our car in to get the tires, we were told anytime the next day- Friday. My husband informed the man on the phone that he needed to leave for work by noon the latest on Friday since he commutes to the city. The man on the phone said no problem, "Bring the car in as early as possible, we open at 8 am and the car will be finished by 10:30am the latest." Okay, perfect. ...not so much. We arrive at Mavis at 7:45 am on Friday morning, the doors still locked. So we waited outside patiently. Another customer showed up and waited to go inside as well. Finally, at 8:10 the doors open and my husband goes inside drops the car off and we go home. I get a pone call around 9:30 am saying our back tires are chopped and we need new shocks. ugh, fine I decide lets do the shocks too. I ask the man on the phone the total for everything and he tells me $498 dollars and the car will be done at noon. I told him my husband needs to leave at noon for work, he asks me if he can leave any later, I said 12:30 the absolute latest. I get home tell my husband the story, so he called Mavis to make sure everything was going well and he could still leave by 12:30 the latest. The man on the phone transfers us to another man... the man on the phone proceeds to tell us the total cost for the new tires and new shocks would tally out to over 1,000 dollars!! He informs us this is including one free tire due to a special they were having (buy three tires, get one free). My husbands words to the man, "HOLY CRAP, are you serious." At this point there was nothing we could do, we needed the shocks and the tires so we agree and hang up pissed. We show up at Mavis at 12:15, and is told our car was still not done! The employee told my husband they got busy so they had to pull his car out unfinished to make room for all the other people who brought their cars in. We were furious. We were the first ones there before the doors even open and still our car was put on the back burner. The man offered to do the alignment the next day so my husband could get to work on time, then he changed his mind and said, "We'll pull out the car ahead of you and do your alignment now, do you have 15 minutes to wait." My husband let them know how much they were screwing him over and reluctantly agreed to give them 15 more minutes. Another Mavis employee interrupts their conversation and sarcastically says to my husband "Do you want me to write a note to your job for you"... like excuse me? is this high school? RUDE. absolutely terrible service. Finally at 1:00 our car was finished. This was a TERRIBLE experience. Every time I go there, something has gone wrong, well this was the last straw. I vistied Mavis Tire in Vails Gate N.Y. late Sunday afternoon. When I visited this location I realized that it was late in the day I had no expectaions of having my tires put on my vehicle at this time, I was just looking to get a price for the tires and make an appoitment to have them mounted. I did get a fair price for the tires however the service rep stated to me that they would have to be ordered, he would get them in on Monday. I then advised the Service Rep that I would like to purchase the tires and have them mounted on Tuesday at 4 PM which the Service Rep. stated would be no problem. I asked the Service Rep if he needed my name, to which he answered no he did not need my name. I left the business thinking it is unusual that the Servive Rep did not need my name. I rushed home from work on Tuesday going straight to Mavis Tire. When I went up to the service desk the same Service Rep I delt with on Sunday was on duty. The Service Rep did not remember me and was not sure what tires he had ordered for me. The service Rep then advised me that he had no time to put the tires on at this time. I feel as tough the Service Rep did not care about my business and was not honest with me. If he would have been honest with me from the start I could work with that. At this point I took my business to another company which is a shame because I did business with this Vails Gate Mavis in the past at that time I had a positive experience. read more

Needed 4 new tires for my car so I decided to purchase them from Mavis in Vails Gate, NY and scheduled a 9:30am appointment. Got there at 9am and all seen well. Was told by the Service Mgr. (Craig) that there was a very short wait and to have a seat. 3 hours later my car was still in the parking lot. I then speak with another Mgr. (J. Soto) who tells me my car is next. Its now 12pm and they finally bring my car inside where it sat on a lift untouched along with several other cars for about another hour or so while the workers walked around. Finally I had enough and told Craig to bring my car out because I couldnt wait any longer and without hesitation he pulled the car out & handed me the keys and I left. What a total waste of time. If this is how they treat someone who is spending $1000 on tires I could only imagine what kind of service they provide to those who are spending less.
