Original review from 2023: I cannot recommend Max Auto enough. I was told that I had 3mm or less left on my rear brake pads and was then quoted $600 to replace them at AutoNation on Tufts Ave. I knew that was ridiculous, so I called Max Auto. After dropping my car off, I got a text a few hours later showing me my brake pads. They said they looked nearly brand new and I definitely did not need them replaced. Along with that, they had much better pricing (aka not taking advantage of customers) for a few other items that I wanted to get done on the car. We will be Max Auto customers for life! 7/24/2026: Updating this review after a more recent, more complicated repair. My most recent repair was a rough experience. The car was towed in on 7/13 after we hit a boulder during a creek crossing and obliterated the oil pan. I was told on 7/14 that they'd get to it that day, but it wasn't actually looked at until 7/16. From there, the part had to be ordered and didn't arrive until 7/20. (I was later told that they did confirm the oil pan damage on 7/14, but the oil pan still was not ordered until 7/16.) While the work was scheduled to be completed on 7/21, the car wasn't ready to be picked up until 7/23. The bigger issue was that I had to initiate almost every single update myself. I'd ask "any news?" and get a status; otherwise I heard nothing, even on days they'd told me I'd get an update. At one point I was told "tomorrow will be the day," and then heard nothing again until I followed up. I understand that this was an unscheduled tow-in, and they told me at one point that they'd put other jobs aside to get to mine faster, but honestly, there never seemed to be any sense of urgency on their end -- our (only!) car ended up being in the shop for over a week and a half. It doesn't seem like the place for an emergency repair, since their schedule seems consistently over-packed, which makes it hard for them to actually prioritize anything, urgent or not. To be clear, I don't doubt the quality of the actual repair work, and I still trust their diagnostics and pricing based on my original experience. But the communication issues were enough to make me hesitant about coming back. read more

I am bringing all 4 of my cars to Max Auto moving forward and if you dont want to waste months dealing with crooks, pay the $139 diagnostic inspection. Great service, the guys are very friendly. Booked appointment online through Openbay, to use my Lyft driver discount. Had them replace a cracked windshield washer fluid reservoir in my 2009 Ford Escape. Everything went smoothly, and they topped off my washer fluid for free. I appreciate the little touches and the extra care taken, like covering my driver seat and floor in plastic before even getting into my car. I'm so relieved to have found a trustworthy shop. They went over all the things that needed to be replaced and said that they didn't need to be done today, but to keep an eye on it. They even told me that I didn't need a few items on my scheduled maintenance at all as they were perfectly fine. They also wrote me up an estimate for when I can afford the repairs at a later date, so I can prepare. I'm riding my old car into the ground so appreciate how they handle estimates and repairs. I took my 2014 Ford Explorer to Max Auto and my water pump needed to be replaced. I have learned this is a big job for this style of engine as the water pump is under the engine. So the mechanic did a great job and did run into some issues but we gave them time and they completed this very difficult job. Everyone is friendly and pricing is great. My review is based on the customer service and the quality of the repair - the cost of repair seemed fair to me, but I wasn't the one paying for it so I wont comment on that. The experience I had at Max Auto was outstanding! And I am the guru of customer service! First impressions can "make it" or "break it" for a company. If your customer service is lacking, you've already lost my business. So, my first interaction was a phone call to check on availability to look at some issues with my Jeep. Chris was so polite on the phone, told me to bring the Jeep in the following day. I took it in and left it with Chris who was just as nice in person as he was on the phone. He said he would look my Jeep and get back with me with repairs and cost. I knew I had some major issues. Chris called me later that day with the list of repairs needed. He was given approval to do the work. Chris kept me up to date on the status of parts and how the repairs were coming along. I have had my Jeep back for a little over a week and I am not just happy with the repairs, I am ecstatic! Driving my Jeep is AMAZING, it no longer feels or sounds like I'm driving a lumber truck! I only spoke to Max once, when I picked my Jeep up. That brief encounter was A-OK in my Customer Service Book. I will be returning to Max Automotive for all future mechanical needs. read more

This is a shop you can trust. Unfortunately, one of the hardest things you can find these days is an auto shop you can trust. Matt and his crew go above and beyond to make sure you are getting the right fix, for a good price, and in a reasonable time. I had one of the infamous oil leaks in my Jeep. They are not easy to diagnose or fix, but Matt and his team figured it out and did me right. I was referred to Max by a friend and neighbor with an excellent reputation and I was not disappointed. Max is a referral from a friend, when my alternator originally went out, he didnt put in the brand new alternator he charged me for. When I took my car to him again for electrical issues, upon trouble shooting he blew something up under my hood. I was out of town and he called my roommate saying he would have my car towed that day if it wasn't moved--to avoid fixing parts he broke and taking responsibility, even if it needed to be moved he should have had enough respect that I was working out of town and charged me like any good mechanic would. I got to return from work to find my car in pieces. DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR HERE, MAX'S actions cost me thousands of dollars, he had no respect for my car, the wellbeing of it, or how much physical money and time he cost me. Its so hard to find a good mechanic that you feel comfortable with and don't feel like you are getting ripped off. Matt is great. He'll tell you what you really need to do first, and what could wait for later if you are working on a budget, and I feel comfortable sending my wife in with the cars. He's always stood behind his work, his prices beat the dealer by a LOT, and the hours of operation really make it convenient for us. Woo hoo, this shop is as good as it gets! Fantastic, reliable shop, with great pricing...DEFINITE 5 STARS!. I have been going to this shop for years and as a single female, I never think twice about services or repairs after an experience with a local brake shop. I discovered them after going to this chain brake shop where I had a "warranty" on the brakes I had purchased a few years prior. The brake shop indicated that my car was totally unsafe, had multiple major issues and I should not drive it at all and even went to the extent to say that if I did not get service there, I should have it towed. Their estimate to make my car "safe" was $1,100! After finding Max Auto and reporting all the issues that were supposedly wrong with the car, I was able to have my auto repaired quickly for approximately $400 and have not had any problems or issues with the repairs. Very honest and will sell you only the services you need. There have been a couple of occasion where Matt didn't even charge me for the work; you don't find that at any other garage. Does great work too and I go out of my way to have them service all three of my vehicles. Honesty is tops in my books when it comes to services that are often times oversold and over priced. I used to take my vehicles to this shop all the time. They replaced a fuel pump for me 3 years ago and the pump has already failed. I would think a fuel pump would last longer than 3 years and it should.The shop offered 5% off the price of a repair they already performed 3 years ago and that was the best discount available. I will no longer take my vehicles here they use cheap parts with limited warranties they do not seem to care that the service of the business is subpar. read more

I would highly recommend Max Automotive to anyone. I've been going there for 6 years, and would not go anywhere else. Matt and the other mechanics are exceptional. When I first came to them, they saved me almost $1000 compared to the dealership. They also showed me several items that "needed to be fixed" at the dealership, but were in fact fine. I've been going to Matt for about 4 years now and won't take my Jeep Grand Cherokee anywhere else. He works on anything but is definitely an expert on Chrysler / Jeep. He is the one doing the work, not a place where you speak to someone on the phone who is not going to be doing any of the work. Straightforward and honest, not going to tell you need something that you don't. Parts and Labor prices are more than fair and he stands behind all of his repairs.
