After a 30 min wait the food came out. The sizzling pepper steak came out very hot and sizzling but it was incredibly oily. It was well seasoned, but way too oily. After we finished it, there was a puddle of oil remaining. The braised beef noodle was decent, and it was not special in any way. The restaurant was fairly clean, although the tables were packed tightly to fit the most amount of people. Our server was attentive, refilled our water frequently even though the restaurant was packed, and knew both mandarin and English. Overall I was mostly satisfied with the experience, but I would wish the food was less salty and greasy.

Our food was delivered to our table as if it were a fast casual restaurant, which we totally weren't expecting. The portions are huge and isn't overly salted. We don't normally eat a lot of salt in our meals and are always worried that restaurant food would be salty, but here, it is lightly salted and you can always add more salt if needed. Please note that even though it's not salty, that doesn't mean it lacks flavor. This place totally understands flavor and it's awesome!! Also, the inside of the restaurant is CLEAN! The first time I visited St. Louis, I had amazing Chinese food,but I still wasn't expecting this level here in Springfield. I've actually walked past Corner 21 multiple times and kept going to the restaurant across the street... yeah, big mistake. The food here is legit Northeastern Chinese cuisine, super authentic, not watered down, and full of flavor. Everything we ordered was spot on, and the dishes came out pretty quickly too. For context, I grew up in Asia and have lived in California for 25 years, so I'm pretty selective when it comes to Chinese food. This place easily holds up even compared to spots in LA. Service was great. Our server, Allen (天宇), was friendly, attentive, and just easy to talk to. It felt welcoming without being over the top, which I really appreciated. The space itself is clean, nicely set up, and has a comfortable vibe. And I have to say the milk tea was ridiculously good. I've been drinking boba since I was a kid, and this one really stood out. Even my coworkers (who aren't Asian) loved everything, which says a lot. Didn't expect to find something this authentic in the Midwest, but here we are. Definitely coming back.
