My insurance company assigned Max Care to do water damage dry out and repairs. I definitely would not recommend them. Their communication was borderline rude and their service very subpar. Two weeks after they supposedly reconnected my HVAC to the house register I have pictures of the ducting lying on the ground in the crawl space. They had tried to attach the wrong type and size ducting to the register with duct tape. They clearly did not know what they were doing. There were other issues, but this was the most egregious. Lesson learned.... you do not have to accept the company that your insurance company recommends for repairs. read more

MaxCARE did awesome for us after the bomb cyclone last November. Mike in particular did an awesome job helping us get everything sorted - new roof, kitchen ceiling demo and restoration, anti-mold treatment, the whole enchilada. I had a poor experience with MaxCARE a few years ago, and after a few years, I found the deck was warping because of the previous poor job. But then I contacted Maxcare through the BBB, and The new team at Maxcare were fantastic! First of all, they listened to the whole situation, and promise to fix it. They called me personally, and Mark talked me through it. He came out with the project lead Zach. They walked the entire project, and even found the plates of glass were a little bit loose. Zach coordinated for someone to come out and fix the working and tighten the glass and pick up all the shower glass that was still all over the ground because it wasn't addressed the first time. Both the professionals took care of everything!Professionally, quickly, and thoroughly! At the follow up, both Zach and Mark called me to be sure I was satisfied. I was so impressed with them. They did everything possible to make up for the previous situation. I now highly recommend Maxcare and would turn to them in the future!! read more

I have been dealing with this company for over a year following a flood that started in my bathroom and caused quite an extensive damage to the adjacent hallway, living room and bedroom as well. Unfortunately, they were the only recommendation suggested by my insurance. A year later, I am waiting for them to come back and redo nearly everything they did. I have been playing phone tag, email avoidance, and family emergencies for over 6 months. I can't even put into words how frustrated and disappointed I am. I had hip surgery in September and they told me it would be taken care of before that because of the potential of tripping and falling. Guess what? I did trip and fall! Just completed an extensive job with Kevin Carbon of Maxcare. My house has turned out to be quite the lemon after just purchasing it in March of 2023. Thanks to some shoddy DIY flipper, all of my plumbing in my spare, master, kitchen, and laundry failed in sequence causing large amounts of water damage and black mold. My project began in April as a small leak behind the tub in my spare bathroom and spread to a half home gut and restore. Kevin, Hector, and the other workers did an amazing job with kind, professional and open communication. I felt involved in the process and knew the status throughout all the additional issues. Despite it being a long process, Kevin made sure to schedule things quickly to ensure the process didn't stagnate. I'm so glad to be back in my home and confident with the attention to detail provide by Kevin and his team. Total flooring replacement, plus drywall & ceiling, insulation, vapor barrier, painting, trim replacement, 2 gutted shower/tubs with tilin, 2 reset toilets, 4 plumbing replacements, plus a million other tiny details. TLDR: Blame everyone else for their inability to coordinate & communicate. Months long delays without them initiating contact. Attempt to get us to sign a contract & pay before any materials selected. When we objected to signing without any materials details They refused to change their "process". I cannot recommend this company. So many issues. They did do a fine job on mitigation as far as I can tell. They then spent months dragging their feet on repair. No communication. It was me calling every time trying to get an update on what was going on. They began blaming the insurance company for their paralysis. They claimed not to have the phone number for the independent adjustor. I handed them his card myself, so I know this is not correct. My insurance company verified they'd been given the information multiple times. They claimed I needed 61 feet of wood flooring if a repair job could be done. Just had a flooring professional out. Less than 30 feet needed. They claimed they couldn't match the flooring. Flooring professional indicated he'd have little issue getting a close match. I can't figure out what value they provided other than trying to bilk my insurance company and adding lots of middle men & admin, all ineffective, to a repair process. They asked us to sign a contract & give them $1000 without any materials review or approval. We told them we'd only agree to start a job after materials were selected and agreed upon. They refused to budge. Needless to say, they got only the remediation work. Don't bother asking them for help on any other front. read more

I was basically forced by my insurance to use MaxCare for mitigation damage to our bathroom. Two months later we still didn't have our bathroom fixed. Was promised a date, then at the last min switched to another date a month out. So that would have left my family without a bathroom for 3 months. Unreliable and flakey business. I was able to get a licensed and bonded contractor out the next day to fix my bathroom. I had to pay out of pocket and now try and get my deductible back from MaxCare, but they don't answer my emails or calls. I am filing a complaint with my insurance company that "recommended" them. Max Care took advantage of my family and left high and dry. I am very relieved that now I have a beautiful working bathroom, but no thanks to MaxCare!! Update from "business owner" that's interesting that you have no record of me considering I have the contract, paperwork and emails. Hmmmmmm. Sounds like your guys are full of baloney. Also update the refund was minus $600 bucks they charged me for incomplete demo work. The guy was here for literally one hour. It's funny how your company left me without a bathroom for two months with chunks of drywall on the floor and in unsafe conditions. But you have no record of me..... read more

Avoid at all cost. Garbage experience from a company who doesn't care one ounce about customer service. We were highly-encouraged to work with them through our insurance company. It took months to get quotes from them due to how slow their follow-up is and after having a hole in our roof for almost six months we FINALLY get the work done. MaxCare's involvement as the "middle-man" between us and the roofers was a nightmare. They overcharged us and the insurance company (multiple times), and we are still fighting to get our down payment back for work they agreed to complete but then refused, claiming it would cost too much. Fine, give us our money back then! They damaged our house multiple times, made no effort to make it right, and use their "project manager" as a bureaucratic way of keeping us from getting what we need. Nothing against the individual we worked with, who is super nice, but is unfortunately employed by a company with no integrity. Shame on you MaxCare! What's in a name? A label, the self proclaimed identity and purpose a company is operating from. Their very ethos. So when my Insurance Adjuster said Max Care was a preferred provider all I could say was right on! I need that kind of care. The one star is because you can't give 0 and to their credit, the phone does in fact ring to an office where they can say the name. So that'll have to be worth a star. Because l got no care, no bid, no nada, zip. In fact I'd say stringing me along and wasting my time caused more damage. But seriously, I didn't expect Max Care, doesn't say what the care is for silly me thought it the customer. But I did expect a company to care enough not to make a bad situation worse. read more

I do not recommend MaxCARE of Washington. The final work was merely satisfactory. The first drywall repair was so bad that another contractor had to redo the work before paint could be applied. The project manager was too often non-communicative, requiring multiple attempts to get a response. The repair took almost 3 calendar months, but workers were only on-site a couple of weeks. Four months after the work was completed, MaxCARE sent a simple invoice that included an additional $3,250, or 42%, above the contracted repair price with no explanation. We had no communication from MaxCARE during those 4 months. We only received an explanation for the additional charge after challenging the amount. MaxCARE did not follow the change process defined in their contract; the supplemental billed amount was not authorized by a written Change Order endorsed by both parties. So, due to the quality and duration of work and MaxCARE charging 42% above the contracted amount, I do not recommend MaxCARE for your home repair. read more

An update on this now months later. Follow through from MaxCare is horrible!!! They were supposed to resubmit a quote to insurance because they had cut my floor. I have no clue if they did or not, I had to contact MaxCare over and over to get status on what they were doing... in all honesty I have all but given up on getting the rest of the reimbursement from the damage. I decided to replace my flooring and hired a great company to install all new flooring in my kitchen and living room, when the installer got to the kitchen he said he could smell mist from under the vinyl... when he pulled the floor up he found water that was from the original leak that MaxCare had originally came out to dry out!!! So now not only has MaxCare not following up on their promises to us, they did a horrible job with drying out the house from the original water damage I had in December of 2018! This is ultimately the worst experience I have ever had with a company, I now have zero trust in anything they tell me as they have proven to me they don't care about their customers. read more

If you want terrible communication, disorganization, and constant errors, these are your people. I started the process in March with them, and was told the work would be done before 4th of July. They just finished it yesterday, at the end of October. Be prepared to be on hand all the time, and babysit them as they will constantly make errors, incorrect measurements (My shower was going to have a wall a few inches from the shower door) and schedule inspector and other contractors and not tell you. I had to call for updates, and often they would tell me they were too busy with other projects to give me updates or schedule someone. They don't read spec sheets or even follow instructions. I spec'd out everything and drew up plans, which they threw out and decided, I wanted things like a different door that opens a different way. My scheduler, I can't really call him a Project Manager, was terrible. I had to manage him to get anything done, and every time I complained to him or someone else, nothing could be done, constant excuses. They can't even communicate among themselves in their own office. I'm sure this company only exists because they can sucker money out of insurance companies. Would not recommend. "They took care of everything!" We were so excited to move into our newly purchased older home and before we could, the weather turned so cold that a pipe burst and flooded the whole downstairs. We had never dealt with anything like this before and I really don't know what we would have done without MaxCARE of Washington, Inc. Just to talk with them was so reassuring and they took care of everything. We recommend them to all our friends now because...well, they were just there for us, when we really needed it. We couldn't have asked for a better experience than we had with them. They are responsive to concerns and questions, they are very knowledgeable and experienced. Months ago we had a water leak between bathroom and a bedroom, ankle deep in water, damaged floors, carpets, walls, mold etc. It was allegedly covered by insurance. Company X recommended MAXCARE - to simply dry it out by setting fans around for several days. They found a tiny piece of vinyl in the bathroom with asbestos on it - Ka-ching! The cost for this 'service' got jacked up to SIX GRAND! They tore up the bathroom, left the funky toilet to fester in my tub growing mold, and left the moldy bedroom carpet and torn up walls in the bedroom, and told the insurance company that it was in good shape. No need to replace it. I find it odd that the insurance company has no problem paying Maxcare's jacked up prices, which come out of the total we're allowed to restore our home, yet they refuse to budge for legitimate repairs. Needless to say after being robbed by Maxcare, we haven't enough left from our claim to pay an honest, reputable contractor to put our house to rights. My house burned down, or up, depending on how you look at it, January 27, 2020 and Maxcare was chosen by my insurance to do the repairs. Some things happened beyond anyone's control so it took a lot longer than anyone thought it would. The main snag was the plumber that Maxcare chose. They tell me they've had good experiences with them before, but in my case they caused most of the delays. Also, there were some things I should have been made aware of right from the start, and I had a few shocks and disappointments when some things I wanted weren't available. But I really have no major complaints and would definitely consider them should (god forbid) I ever need that kind of service again. Their best choice was IAI Construction LLC, who did the actual rebuild. They were amazing. The "main man", Slava, gave me everything I wanted and more. He went over and above to get me the house I dreamed of. I'm about to move back in and the house is beautiful. I would definitely use their service again. read more

We had an improper installation of a shower valve which leaked into the walls and ceiling of a lower level bedroom. They came, dried everything out and did the reconstruction. Another USAA referral here - extremely disappointed. Maxcare was unprofessional and did not stand by their warranty when the work was found to be defective three months later. I had water damage in my kitchen, they came in to resurface the wood floor. Didn't show, start or finish when they said they would. Numerous misstatements and very poor communication - terrible customer service from start to finish. Three months later, the warping returned and they claimed that there must have been subsequent water damage and would not stand by their warranty. Now I need to hire another contractor to do the job again. Complete headache. read more

Worst company I haver ever done business with. Shoddy work, unreliable service, and threatening admin staff.

A friend came to visit me at my home. Unfortunately, the brake did not hold on her car. Both of the two-bay garage doors were pushed in along with the center section of the house in between the two doors. The doors were unable to be opened or closed; both cars were stuck in the garage. Within only hours of contacting my carrier, MaxCare contacted me. Within a few more hours, a rep was at the house assessing the damage. Then, much to my surprise, within just a few hours more, two men from MaxCare arrived and did enough of a repair that both of the garage doors could open and allow the cars to go in and out! Needless to say that the rest of the repair was completed and the two doors and frames painted in record time. I can't say enough good things about MaxCare. Besides the excellent repair work that was done in a very untimely manner, the office staff were very personable and professional at all times while staying in touch with me giving me updates and status and who would be at my home and when! Our story using Maxcare (co's should be scrutinized as to what they use as co. names / dba's).....pretty much one and the same as what her family has gone through and what we're continuing to go through. What "should" have been a fairly simple fix has turned into a complete disaster. A water leak issue that should have taken a couple weeks to complete, from demo to touch up paint, has taken over 6 months, and remains unfinished. "Icing...." is that the totally inefficient management (isn't the meaning of management to be control over the situation?) is not only inept but uncaring - to the MAX! I won't go into the gory details, but rest assured, if you want to end up with a crappy situation and unfinished product, use this company. My next stop will be a letter to the Attorney General of Washington to file a complaint. This company needs to be put on notice. read more

Yet another dissatisfied USAA referral. I woke up to water leak in my basement yesterday and called USAA. They got the ball rolling and in fairly short order MAXCARE called me. I was a little concerned that they were coming from Sumner and not somewhere in Kitsap County but figured USAA knew what they were doing. A couple of hours later hours later 3 guys showed up to start drying. When they left there was still standing water and soaking squishy wet carpet. I had to move the blowers so they could actually dry something. I also had to adjust the dehumidifier drain lines so they weren't going "uphill". Later in the day the company called and arraigned for some packers to come out today by 10am, only two people though. At 8 they called and said they couldn't get out until noon or so and they only work until about 4 but they'll be back tomorrow. NOT acceptable! I just got off the phone with USAA, told them to have MAXCARE get their equipment out of my house and get someone who can get the job done. Waiting to see if USAA has a local company or if I need to shop for a contractor and maybe a new insurance company. read more

How do I summarize a job that was scheduled to be completed in less than 2 weeks and that dragged on for 9 months leaving us without a working shower in our home for a full 5 months and then again for another three weeks? We discovered a leak in our only shower in early 2016, and hired Maxcare from the list of contractors recommended by our homeowner's insurance (USAA). Maxcare subcontracted with John Jacob Sehmel of DS Sales who began work May 18, 2016. We were lucky that the initial job was so poor cosmetically (cracked and chipped tiles, thick and uneven grout lines, etc) because when that job was torn out we discovered the original cause of the leak had not been repaired and the worker had tiled over both black mold and dry rot. However, fixing the job included a series of cancellations and no-shows, as well as ongoing work errors. For example, the threshold to the shower had to be re-tiled 4 times before we could take a shower without water pouring out on the bathroom floor, the glass folks have had to come out 3x to fix the door that keeps sliding out of place so that it hits (this problem is still ongoing), and the current tile job had to be re-grouted 2x because they original grout dissolved after the cleaning crew came to remove the grout haze. We did face some legitimate delays - difficulty getting the right part for the pocket door, needing to allow wet materials to dry after demo - but these account for a small fraction of the time we lived without a working shower. John's workers damaged our house with their lack of care and haste, most of which Maxcare was able to repair. Because Maxcare guarantees their work for our insurance company, we were forced to see out the job with them. Throughout, a series of Maxcare representatives (Fred, Joe Brittany) were friendly and polite, promising they wanted us to be satisfied, but our project manager, Fred, often had no idea what was happening on our job and was obviously providing no oversight to their subcontractor. For instance, as tiling neared completion and I asked Fred about plans for glass door installation I discovered that he had no idea that the tiling job did not accommodate our old shower door and he had made no efforts to order a new door that would fit. We had to tell them what products and methods were used, coordinate workers and timelines, and often even research what was going wrong on the internet and inform them, for instance, why the grout dissolved and why the shower fixture wasn't mixing hot and cold after re-installation. The workers sent directly from Maxcare (Clayton who did the woodwork, painting and finishes upstairs and Peter who patched and painted our ceiling below) were highly skilled, careful and respectful of our property. Professionalism and responsiveness rate a D because even the best customer service at the end could not make up for months of allowing John to delay and mismanage the job. The project was completed 2/22/17. We were deeply disappointed with the service provided and are aghast that Maxcare continues to use John as a subcontractor; we learned from one of the workers sent to fix our job that all he had done for John for months was fix projects that were botched the first time by John's team, so I know we are not alone in our frustrations. Overall, most problems have been resolved and the final job is good which is why we gave them a C for quality, despite getting lousy work along the way. read more

Maxcare of Washington was recommended by our insurance company as someone they did business for repairs caused by water damage. Please note, I have since filed a complaint against Maxcare of Washington with the BBB and State Attorney General and the State Insurance Commissioner regarding the insurance company. My project was to begin in August of 2018, it was supposed to be completed by November of 2018. The project was not completed until July of 2019. Maxcare refused to answer calls, they did not provide a work schedule and on the few times they did provide a schedule, they or their sub contractors did not adhere to the timeline. The wrong cabinets were ordered, the first construction of the island had to be removed and redone, they did not clean up after working and left the house for us to clean up after their departure. I reported this company to the Better Business Bureau and was advised by the BBB that they never received any response to their inquiry. The BBB did tell me I could escalate to the State Attorney General. The State Attorney General also made multiple attempts to speak with Maxcare. Ultimately, the Attorney General could do nothing more and outlined further options which included legal action. I grew up in contracting, I had a career in construction and construction public relations; never have I encountered a company so lacking in professionalism. A sailor in distress on the water calls the Coast Guard, so what does one do when one encounters hydro hysteria in their home on dry land? Maxcare of Washington to the rescue! I had a heating system leak that damaged and soaked a good portion of flooring/ceiling joists, panels, sheetrock, foundation, and walls. I received a call from Maxcare within 1 hours of my USAA insurance adjuster leaving my home and they were on scene less than 2 hours after that. They removed all of the moldy and damaged sheetrock, sealed off the area with the most water damage, and placed numerous industrial strength fans and dehumidifiers to remove all of the moisture as well as spraying with mold inhibitor. They came back to follow up several times and did not leave until everything was completely moisture free and ready for the next group to come in and replace and repaint. The crew was not only fast to the rescue, but friendly, courteous and professional. Billed my insurance directly so I didn't have to worry about waiting to get reimbursed, and left everything clean and tidy. read more

In Sept 2013 we had water damage to the upstairs and downstairs of our home. We were contacted by Maxcare within an hour of our claim to USAA. Kyle came to our home that same night and was so professional and courteous. He and Steven did most of the cleanup from the water damage. These young men were punctual, efficient and extremely professional. Then came the painting, drywall, tile, carpeting...and every one of the people that worked directly for them or that they contracted with were just awesome. Liberty Interior Construction (see my Yelp review) did an amazing job with the drywall and the painting of the inside of our geodesic dome home (thanks Craig). Super professional guys. Then Clayton showed up and did all the tile work, trim and some other woodwork. He was also so great (and what a perfectionist!). He did beautiful work on all of the tile, and the woodwork and trim looked better than before the damage! The people who helped move our furniture in and out of the house were also so helpful. Thank you so much moving crew! Not an item was damaged! And many thanks to Ivan who took on the project of carpeting our very unconventional shaped home and did a beautiful job. Thank you Fred and all of your Maxcare people...you've got a great crew. All in all, I would highly recommend Maxcare to anyone needing help restoring your home to it's normal condition (or better!). Disaster! Maxcare was hired to fix a leak and the entire experience was a catastrophe. I strongly advise you to avoid them at all costs. If you do find yourself working with them, take every estimate (time or money) they give you and multiply it by ten. Expect to have to call or e-mail several times before someone bothers to reply. If their work fails to fix the problem (as it did with my leak), they will refuse to honor the warranty. Watch your bills closely--they love to slip in costs for things that were never done. I, too, was referred to MAXCARE by USAA for water mitigation and repair. The estimator did a very thorough job and submitted his bid to USAA. Fred (President of Maxcare) was to be the manager of my job; in my opinion, he did not do much managing. He was nearly impossible to communicate with, failing to return multiple phone calls. The Maxcare crews did a good job of drying out my home and reconstructing, with one glaring exception. The estimator had pointed out to me that all wood floor areas, stairs, railing, etc would need to be refinished under the concept of "continuation." Unfortunately, that did not happen. Then for the last year Maxcare has been harassing me with bills. Each time I received a bill (marked past due), I called and told them to contact USAA. I finally got fed up and called USAA myself, and the remaining bill was paid within days. USAA stated they had never received an invoice for the end of the job. So, someone at Maxcare was not doing their job, and I had to do it for them. Of course, I had tried to call Fred many times, but he would not take my call, nor would he return calls. In short, the work that was done was done well. However, the corporate staff could use a lot of work in caring for clients. read more

Unfortunately last January there was a cooking fire that caused about $200K damage to my house. When my insurance adjuster came out to assess the damages he told me I could use any company I wanted. I had never been in this situation before and asked if he could recommend some companies. He gave me a few names and told me Maxcare was probably one of the best companies to go with but he did warn me they take a little longer to complete projects. I called Maxcare the next day and they immediately met me at my house to start the quote process. My house had to be completely gutted down to the studs and rebuilt along with some outside damages. Other than it taking about 8 1/2 months to complete, they did an amazing job. Fred, my project manager worked with me to get everything I wanted and to make sure I was happy. The office staff (Danielle and Sara) went out of their way to help me and answer my questions. They even came to me when I needed to pick something out or needed to drop off insurance paperwork. And a shout out to Corey who fixed everything I asked after the final walk through and even a couple things that he repaired that wasn't caused by the fire/smoke damage. This company will take longer to complete your project but you can know that you are receiving quality work! I would highly recommend them if you want it done right the first time! read more
