When I go I tend to have so many small pours that at the end i've had multiple glasses so it all works out. They usually have so many varieties on tap that there is always so many for me to choose from in the categories that I like. But Max's isnt all beer, its usually a stop when doing some bar hopping in the area because they are still a full bar and does some pretty decent shots. They also have a good selection of pub food, the Max's tots are close to one of my favorite things to have when I want to put down a good base lol. If you are looking for an extensive beer list in Fells Point, Max's Taphouse is your place. We went for lunch as it's one of the places that opens on the early end in the area. I was surprised at their menu offering with amazing pulled pork served in many ways and portion sizes that are huge! The pulled. Pork sandwich was great, the tater bowl was enough for 4 people and full of flavors including crispy tots, pulled pork with bbq sauce and melted cheese. This is a great pub with so many choices of beer that has enhanced their menu with a great pub style food. My only recommendation is share the Tater bowl!!!! read more

The tap list and bottle selection alone makes this a 5 star beer bar. If you can't find a beer you don't like then you just don't like beer. Went Thursday around 1:30 to grab lunch and try some beer after reading reviews. It wasn't crowded so we came in and sat at a table. No one acknowledged us and we proceeded to try to scan the QR code on the table to order. We literally all used the restroom (there were 4 of us - 2 men and 2 women). We for whatever reason could t figure out the QR code or how to order. No one came over to see if we were ok, or if we needed help, nothing at all. My family and I sit at a table for 15 minutes and neither the male or female workers come over to take our order or explain how we can order. The male employee just gave dirty looks the whole time. Jamie was spectacular. Very accommodating and do not even get me started on our food. My boyfriend got Max's Nachos with pulled pork and LOVED it. I got a quesadilla and I was a bit complicated with how I wanted it but Jamie made SURE that it came out the way I wanted. Even went back to the kitchen to make sure they made it correctly. We are not from Baltimore.... This place was THE place to stop and I am so glad we did. The vibe, the people, the staff, the food. Phenomenal. Highly recommend! I did half half with another flavor but the honey was just so good. Service was also decently fast and had a bar vibe but wasn't overly noisy. Max's Taproom has all you could need for a great get together. 190 drink selections, which I heard was the most in the state, so nobody gets left out. Bar food was tremendous. My party had pit beef and pulled pork sliders, along with great pretzel nuggets and cheese sauce. Service was attentive and informative. Lots of nooks and crannies to see collectibles unless you are more interested in the sports on the many screens. Now that the Orioles are relevant again, American East series should pack this place. This is definitely a Fells Point staple. We went for the comedy show on Saturday nights. Note: there are no tickets. The event is free! Doors open at 7 and show is 8-10. I can say some of the comics were really funny ...and some just didn't hit it. But that happens... There's a nice small bar upstairs so you don't have to keep walking downstairs for booze, nice! I've been going to Max's since 2009 and I love it more each time. In recent years, the interior has improved, with new furniture. What's remained the same all these years is the great beer selection. I am a beer snob and there's ALWAYS something I'll drink and enjoy at Max's! The staff are super knowledgeable about beer and very helpful when I'm undecided about what I want to drink. Always a good time. Miss the pool table from back in the day, but I can just go down to The Point if I want to play. Max's is a win in my book! read more

We popped in here for a quick drink after we saw "Beer & Bourbon" on the to go window. Disclosure: they don't have bourbon in the to go area, you have to go inside the actual bar. Upon walking in, it's a really cool spot. Lots of history, and they did a great job of capturing the original feel of the building. I was a huge fan. They have a HUGE bar with anything you could ever want either on tap, or in a can/bottle. An option for everyone. We stopped in on a hot afternoon and they weren't super busy. My only complaint was they weren't super busy and we didn't get great service. I think there was one bartender and another person behind the bar (not sure what their job was) and the bartender seemed to be giving all his attention to one small group that he presumably knew. I know we're in a staffing shortage, I get that, but this wasn't that. The experience itself was okay. Their liquor selection is pretty good. We didn't try food, so can't speak on that. Great beer selection. My husband gave the bartender our criteria...IPA, hazy, citrus, west coast, but keep in mind that it is $7.50 for a 14 oz pour. Average beer in the US is a 16 oz pour. After having dinner in Fels Point, I was looking to check out the bar scene. Fels Point is a great spot to bar hop as there is a long string of bars by the pier. I ended up checking out Max's Taphouse and I was glad I did. It's a casual bar, but a spacious one, with plenty of seating. There's a long bar as you walk in and they have a huge beer list. I ended up picking a local one, got quick service, and made my way to the back of the bar. They have a little purple minibus there that has some seating. Best place for beer drinkers! They have a huge selection of draft and canned beers to choose from with a little bit of everything. I always enjoy coming here to try new beers with their rotating menu. My friend and I came here for a drink after their kitchen had already closed and they even let us bring in pizza from outside so that we could stay their and enjoy our beers, I wish more places allowed that! Such a chill atmosphere with a good amount of TVs so that you can come and enjoy the games. Will be back again to try more beers and finally try the food here. read more

Review based solely off beer, did not eat any food. During our Baltimore trip due to the days of the week we were here and the holiday most to all breweries around were closed. Thanks to Max's we did not miss out on a beer experience fully. It's in a great location somewhat close to the harbor so if visiting the area and staying in the harbor great spot to walk to and from. With around 110 beers on tap you'll find plenty of options available, especially since they appear to do many tap takeovers/beer events and feature beers from close and far (was even nice to see some local to me, Maine breweries featured on taps). Can't just pick one beer since so many options then order a flight and try a ton of options. The bartenders were attentive and friendly and even cracking jokes at each others expense and in general which was a great touch. Had a great local bar vibe to it that would honestly make me a regular if I was from around here. This is an absolute must for beer lovers from or visiting the area. If I'm back in the area I know I will return and try the food next time too. read more

We now live in Baltimore and frequent Max's a lot. They have really won me over. Let's not deny the amazing amount of beer taps they have to satisfy every beer palate but they carry 19 crimes wine which is great when I am attempting to reduce my carb intake. Their customer service is fantastic and the servers know their beer. The greatest recent news is that they added a new chef, Joe, who has elevated the once mediocre bar food to amazing bar food. Pit beef and turkey: Get the pit beef and turkey or both! I consider myself obsessed with bbq smoking since I went to Austin in 2014 and bought a big green egg kamado smoker to make smoked brisket myself. It's an art. Pit beef is a Baltimore tradition that makes me proud to be a Baltimorean. Delicious smoke flavor at medium rare is not as easy as it seems. I've unfortunately had awful pit beef. But joe does a great job to serve really delicious pit beef and turkey. Now we can go to Max's for the beer AND the food. Chips: house made chips deliciously crisp. Nachos: I could drink the beer queso but I won't. Crispy corn chips with tasty house made chili elevates this bar food to awesome. Jack Daniels apple dessert with ice cream: Joe is very proud of this so it must be amazing. I will try it and update my review when I do. read more

Wow! so thankful for this spot, they have always had an incredible beer selection and even during the pandemic they are friendly, helpful, and of courseeee have great taste. Was so great to try two new-to-me beers Barrel Aged Duvel and Fantome Lea's Journey thanks to Matt. Of course I also had to have my annual Mad Elf from troegs! There was plenty of room to social distance both inside and outside and Matt was super helpful with selecting beers. I didnt get food this time but I love the burgers here too! read more

Pros: Large selection of draft beers, in some cases, drafts that you can't really find many places and good selection of bottled beers, again some you can't find elsewhere easily. Large interior. I'd go back for the beer. Cons: Service was efficient but not truly warm or welcoming at first. It got better after and granted we got there when they first opened so maybe it took a few for them to wake up lol. Overall: Things got better with service after we ordered food and beer so I'll go back for beer. Max's Taphouse was a lot of fun! My brother was in town from SanDiego and wanted to go down to Fells Point. The atmosphere was full of energy and the staff did a wonderful job setting that vibe. We didn't eat there but all the dishes that were coming out looked delish! The place was crowded so that's always a good sign. They offer a huge variety of craft beers to choose from. We went to Max's because it didn't seem as crazy crowded like the other pubs, and was able to order before their kitchen closed. We were pleasantly surprised by how large the draft selection was, and also totally impressed by how delicious their nachos were! It was loaded, a mountain of nachos covered with cheese. They accidentally gave us chicken instead of the bbq pork, but we still enjoyed it! We were skeptical given its very easy to have dry chicken, but this was cooked to perfection and surprisingly moist. Ambiance is ok; typical pub feel. So if you like watching sports, drinking beer, and eating bomb nachos, definitely come here. read more

Came here for drag bingo last week. The event was fun and nothing I have ever done before so it was a great experience. Went there hungry and hoping to play bingo, eat good food, and have a good time. I ordered chili nachos with my friends and they were hands down the worst nachos I've had in my entire life (and I have had a lot). The service was fine nothing good or bad to say, just normal. While in town I went to Fells Point for drinks. Went to Max's for the first time. This was a happening spot with a lot of positive energy. Whether there watching TV, hanging out with friends, or by oneself, I noticed that everyone was having a good time.
