Great neighborhood bar to stop in at that has a good vibe and yummy pub food. I live a couple of blocks away and stop in here all the time. Maxwell's has a pretty classic menu with different specials each day. My favorite foods to get are the crispy waffle fries, wings, and Buffalo chicken fingers. They also have a great beer selection with fair prices all around. It gets pretty packed in here before and after US Bank events so plan accordingly but otherwise there's ample seating at the bar or tables. read more

We came in on a weeknight to enjoy the happy hour on our way to a show. Our waiter was super friendly and though the place was busy - we were able to get a table. There was a fish sandwich special that night that I decided to have and immediately regretted. It was a sad fish stick with a piece of American cheese and lettuce that smelled - not fresh. The fries were okay but not good enough to save the meal. My husband had a Buffalo chicken gyro and it also fell flat. Not enough sauce, just a chicken tender in a pita with a quick sprinkle of sauce. Came here on a whim while we were walking around downtown Minneapolis. The service here is wonderful and shoutout to our waitress for being so awesome! It's a traditional style pub and walking in, we felt the chill and cool vibe and atmosphere. Plenty of seating around as well. We ordered the following: Soy garlic edamame: 8/10 - it was really good and salty from the soy! The edamame beans were steamed perfectly and provided that crisp pop when you bit into one. We would taste the garlic as well and it was very pleasant on the tongue. Mac and cheese: 8/10: I thought it would be the traditional noodles but it was penne style instead. It was rich, cheesy, creamy, and the pasta cooked al dente. It came with a toasted, buttered baguette slice. It was enough to feed two people and my coworker and I shared it. It was insanely good but I prefer the regular style mac and cheese noodles. To me, this was like a step above your average mac and cheese. Mexican corn dip - 9/10: do yourself a favor and get this as your appetizer! It tasted exactly like a warm elote! The flavors were outstanding and the added lime was the chef's kiss. it comes with fresh tortilla corn chips and when you first get a taste of the dip, you taste the richness of the Cotija cheese, and then follows the sweet corn and tangy lime juice and tajin. Then you end up with the slight spicy kick at the end. We all came to the consensus that this was our favorite item of the day! We finished every corn kernel. My other coworkers had a steak salad with blue cheese dressing and a slow roasted pull pork with tater tots. They both enjoyed their food as well. Lives up to its name - a great spot to grab a drink and have some pub food! We stopped here for a bite after an appointment in the area. The service is stand-out here - servers were friendly and attentive during our meal! They've got a bunch of stuff on rotating tap, and some specialty cocktails. Never again. One and done! We went here before Jelly Roll concert. Three people. We were each charged for many drinks we did not have or get. They charged way too much per drink for event pricing and on top of it added many extra drinks to each of us. I get there was a lot going on in town so I chose the place farthest on the outskirts and away from the other venues. The bill seemed huge, and I didn't understand why until I looked at it after the fact (picture I had taken). Just wanted to get to our event. Sadly after I paid in cash. Recently went here for dinner and drinks with some friends and we all had a great time! Service was super friendly and speedy. We ordered a burger, Mac and cheese, Smokey mountain chicken sandwich, and Buffalo chicken wrap. I personally tried the Mac and cheese and chicken sandwich, and both were delicious & would definitely order them again. The sandwiches also come with a ton of super yummy waffle fries each, which we loved. Food was affordable (about $14 per meal) and drinks were super cheap compared to other places in the area (ours were between $4.50 and $6 each). ATMOSPHERE: I was hesitant when my friend suggested a casual/"dive bar" location for drinks & dinner but maxwell's was clean and homey. Lots of seating available for the space. SERVICE: We sat at the bar and received excellent service. Bartender was always making sure we had drinks and that our food was good! He also recommended some of his favorite food options which helped us decide what to get. FOOD: I ordered the Nashville hot chicken sandwich and it hit the spot. I would say the sauce itself is more bbq than "Nashville hot" but it was still tasty! It had fried pickles on it as well which I liked. Also, they use chicken tenders as the chicken, as a heads up. Still delicious but maybe not what I expected. The waffle fries and seasoned sour cream is a must. The mac and cheese was delicious. They use penne pasta which I personally prefer over macaroni noodles. My friend ordered Cajun shrimp as the protein. DRINKS: You can order whatever drink you'd like, I always like a good dirty Shirley. PRICE: The rail drinks were $6. Average bowl of wild rice soup and average salad. My main reason for bothering to write a review is to comment on the service. When I ordered my soup I also asked for a salad with blue cheese dressing. The soup was delivered with a bread stick and a small condiment container of what tasted like ranch dressing which I presumed was for the breadstick (?) but no salad. I reminded the server about the salad. It was delivered but no blue cheese dressing. I asked the server for the correct dressing and she pointed to the ranch dressing on the soup bowl plate and said that it was the blue cheese dressing. I explained that I had tasted it and it was not blue cheese but rather than going and getting a side of blue cheese she repeated that the ranch was blue cheese. Me and my stopped in because we both were craving a burger and drink after a day at work... and I must say it was an excellent find. The inside of the pub was very relaxed and comfortable-plus the entire staff (both waite staff and bartenders) were all very friendly and inviting. We were both excited to see that the special that night was a $9 cheeseburger and fries both of which were really good and a very generous portion. The beer menu constantly changes, but they had an orange Creamsicle cider, which was very refreshing . I like Maxwell's. A nice, chill pub! A few years ago, I lived an exit away in the dinkytown area. My mom & I would go here every Saturday for the drink specials on bloody Mary's and mimosas, and of course we tried the food and loved it. We went today for happy hour, my first time in a long time. We ordered way too much food. We got -steak bites. My mom said they were good, I don't eat beef). -cheese curds. Not my favorite, but had to try them) -waffle fries. They were good & I really liked the dip they came with. -wings (Buffalo/hot wings). Again not my favorite. I have come to realized when you order chicken with sauce from most places they don't season the meat (or maybe they do with plain salt, I'm no chef, I don't know) but it has no flavor & then they throw a thin layer of buffalo sauce over it and it's still minimal flavor. I say all of that to say my tip would be to get the dry rub wings (because they are seasoned) and dip them in hot sauce or buffalo sauce. They weren't horrible wings they just lacked flavor which seems common. For a drink, I got a Wintertini. Very good. In the past I ordered off the regular menu, things like chicken sandwiches and so on and have never not liked my food. I ordered off the happy hour menu because I could try more food at a cheaper price. The service was great, as always. The waitress was nice and made sure we were set with everything we needed. Overall I like Maxwells! Nice atmosphere, good food, good drinks, cool people! Parking is metered all around. read more

This is a great little bar very close to US Bank Stadium. It is super clean and has a fun atmosphere. They decorate with old pictures of Minneapolis, which is super cool. Loved the chill atmosphere- sometimes you don't want to have to put on your best show for a nice drink with friends. Maxwell's has awesome happy hour deals, both for their beverages and their tasty apps. They definitely do not skimp on the amount of food either. The nachos are piled high with a variety of ingredients. There were steak bites for days and cheese curds up the wazoo. My boyfriends favorite is the edamame and I gotta say I was very impressed- it was very well flavored with lots of soy sauce and garlic to the point where my kidneys had to tell me to stop eating so much salt. Maxwell's is a lock for my "Best Burgers of the Twin Cities" list. It's an unassuming spot in an unassuming part of downtown, just a few doors down from Bobby & Steve's off Washington. Our server was gregarious, prompt, and attentive. She gave the "I'm glad you guys are here" vibe in a completely genuine way. Bravo. The Laredo Burger was excellent: a hearty half-pound of meat, a generous heaping of avocado, smothered in pepperjack cheese, pico de gallo & chipotle aioli -- all on a fresh baked bun. Phenomenal burger, and a great price point: $8.50. I paid the extra $1.50 for fries and seasoned sour cream; 'twas a wise investment. Perfect amount of seasoning on the fries, and their sour cream was magnificent (and this is from a guy who normally isn't into seasoned sour cream). My dad had the Reuben and said it was wunderbar. Being a carb-conscious old man, he subbed veggies for chips. Most places give you a meager serving of veggies, but not Maxwell's. They loaded him up with a diverse mix of fresh, steamed veggies. Well done. The vibe is cozy without being cramped: tastefully appointed, and a generous number of flat screens to catch the game. Lunch here was weird. I came with my girl, Rachel C, just as she had arrived into Minneapolis after a long flight. I hadn't eaten yet that day so we were STARVING. Rolled up to Maxwell's since it was right down the street from our hotel. Came in and right off the bat it was a little odd. The waitress/hostess was not welcoming. In fact, seeing as we were the only two people in there at the time, she seemed down right annoyed that we were there. Oops, sorry we're hungry and came into your RESTAURANT for food. Sigh. Anyway. I just never felt like she warmed up to us the entire time we were there and it just made me feel uncomfortable. Do you know when you have questions but then the person you're asking them to gives off some 'tude so you get even more flustered and you get even more wordy and then they pretty much hate you? I felt like that was the pattern here with the waitress. I had some questions about the menu but she was standoffish and less than helpful from the get go and then I got flustered and forgot what I was going to ask and it just devolved into me ordering a club sandwich. Now, don't get me wrong. I like a club sandwich. But I felt like there were other, more exciting things on the menu worth trying but I felt so rushed that I made that decision and there we were. Now, the club sandwich was pretty good. Nothing special but it was satisfying. I was starving so I nearly downed the whole thing which was quite sizable to begin with. The fries? Now the fries are off the HOOK. I love a waffle fry. They had good waffle fries. And they also had this neat little curry sour cream dipping sauce for them which I also enjoyed. Nothing fancy but I left pleased. I also glanced at the beer menu and it looked solid. I recognized some Michigan beers too, which made me happy, but also some regional to MN brews which I like. I love trying the regional beers when I'm in a new city. Although this day I was way too tired for a beer so I passed. The space is your standard kind of pub with wood detailing and such. It didn't really stand out in my mind as anything remarkable but it was clean and comfortable so I'll give them props for that. We stopped by Maxwell's as we were staying at the nearby Aloft. Our bartender Mary was helpful and friendly, and had a lot of history with the place, which is a nice old brick building that survived a fire in the thick of winter, evidenced by photos on the walls. I noticed that a waitress nearby was wiping down all the menus, which, after seeing it, I realized is probably something I would like to see a lot of other places doing. Who likes to touch a crusty, sticky menu?! I appreciated that as soon as I ordered a wine, I was given a glass of water. Red wine is DRY, Peeps!
