    Dry Rubbed Wings

Bar atmosphere with mediocre service. A good place to hang out and possibly throw darts, but not the best option around if you're looking for an above-average meal. We tried the Dry Rubbed Wings with Thai Chili. They were unique, but nothing special. We actually ordered 12 but only got 6 (service wasn't great as I mentioned), although in hindsight maybe that wasn't a bad thing since they weren't much of a hit anyway. The Seattle Dog was up next. This is a $5 dog being priced at $9, as the hot dog itself was fairly small, it was definitely not "stuffed" with cream cheese, and there was not a note of exceptional to it. Not sure I'd make a return trip except maybe to have a beer.

I have been here a couple of times now and can officially declare that The Bulldog Uptown is a hidden gem. The street parking directly in front is limited, but there is plenty of street parking to be found a block or two away. It seems that they always have plenty of drink specials at any given time, and it is all priced rather reasonably. They have an outdoor, fenced-in patio that is not dog-friendly, and it can tend to be rather smokey, so if you aren't a fan of cigs, I would sit inside. The inside is kind of dark, but I would say that it definitely matches the vibe of the place, and it would be probably be weird if it was super bright. Also, every time I have come here, it is bar service only, and you just go up and order everything there and then grab it when it's done. I don't mind, but if you are looking to be waited on, this might not be the spot for you. No complaints as far as the food goes, and I will be coming back soon.

    Pot Roast

I love this place it's open late which is how I originally happened in. This is a bar that serves some pretty good food. I really like the pot roast dinner and there cheese curds are very good they have a super light breading. Service has always been outstanding.

Long Island ($6.75) and the husband's beer.

As I entered The Bulldog for the first time yesterday afternoon my ears were greeted to blasting Metallica. So far, so good. The music just kept getting better: Nirvana, Black Sabbath, Soundgarden, Faith No More. Seriously, FNM? This girl was in heaven and she had not even ordered a drink yet. It is larger inside than I anticipated from the outside. It is quite dark inside which was a nice change from being at the pool all day in the blazing sun. My sunburnt ass needed a drink so I ordered the usual Long Island. At only $6.75 it was a tasty delight and the server was a doll of a gal that kept checking in with us at an appropriate pace. I hate to be asked how my meal is every 2 seconds and I hate to be looked over even more. She was just right. I failed to ask her name. My apologies. Husband was impressed with their beer selection and ordered 2 local ones that he had never tried. I did not ask the names of them as I was too anxious to start eating the poutine that we had ordered. Happy hour is every day from 3 - 6. I frown upon places that only offer HH Monday - Friday. That does not always work for folks with demanding work hours. HH seven days a week should be a requirement. All apps are 50% off during HH so we ordered the pot roast poutine (normally $12.50) and the bacon jalapeño cheese curds (normally $12.00). Both were amazing but I do not feel they were worth the full price. Go during HH and make a better financial decision. That being said, that pot roast poutine is the bomb! I reside in Eden Prairie but may make the trip into "the city" weekly to eat that plate of tastiness. During HH of course. Tender pot roast, tons of gravy and Ellsworth cheese curds made it all worth the calories. But who is counting calories when they eat poutine? Not this girl! The bacon jalapeno curds were honestly some of the best I have ever had. And I am normally a die hard MN State Fair cheese curd girl. Served with ranch dressing and loaded with Ellsworth curds, I may never fit into my skinny girl jeans again. And that is okay. They had 2 dart boards that were both being used. That just gives me an excuse to return. Please do not be alarmed when you encounter what appears to be a live bulldog in a kennel. It is just a prop.

We went this last week with a large group before a show and had another great experience. We didn't make any sort of reservation and they were able to seat us right away. The interior has that classic vintage pub feel with lots of character and natural light. There are tons of booths and different seating areas that could accommodate parties of all sizes. I especially liked the glass dividers between some of the booths, which give you a little extra privacy without making the space feel closed off. My booth also had coat hooks and easy access to outlets, which I appreciated. I could definitely see myself coming here for a working lunch. My server was incredibly friendly and helpful, especially as I was trying to figure out how to use a couple of rewards I had on my account. I specifically came in wanting to try the fish and chips. Their lunch menu offers smaller portions of several dishes from the dinner menu, including a fish and chips option for around $15. I really wanted to try the walleye, though, so I ended up ordering the full dinner portion for around $28. The fish was absolutely the star of the plate. The breading was fantastic--crunchy around the edges while still light and fluffy--and the fish inside practically melted in my mouth. The tartar sauce was also really good and paired perfectly with it. The sides, unfortunately, didn't impress me nearly as much. There were plenty of fries, but they were pretty average, and the coleslaw was mostly cabbage with a light dressing. It felt like it was missing some acidity or lime to give it a little more personality. For almost $30, I also expected the meal to be a bit more substantial. I left satisfied, but found myself hungry again a couple of hours later, so I'm not sure the dinner portion felt worth the price for me. If you're mainly curious about their fish and chips, I'd probably recommend trying the smaller lunch portion first rather than committing to the more expensive dinner version. Would I come back? Absolutely--the atmosphere, service, and location alone make The Local worth another visit, and I noticed several other dishes on the menu I'd be interested in trying. I just don't know that I'd order this particular meal again. The fish itself was excellent, but for me, the sides and overall value didn't quite match it.

On awkward waiting wondering if this is one of those places where you can just seat yourself. The place is clean and the ambiance has some very nice touches to bring intrigue. The subtle candle-like light fixture was corky and added to the charm. Prices are very reasonable! I had a good idea what I wanted prior to stopping in. Food came out quickly. Less than 10 mins. Lupia was hot and delicious. My first time having one so wilk not compare it to an egg roll. The braised beef rib was tender and juicy. I pulled out the knife but only a fork is necessary. I do wish the meat was a tad saltier but just a personal preference there. Service was pleasant, attentive, and quick. The gentleman who greeted me also thanked me on my way out. It was rather pleasant experience overall and am planning on coming back to try more of the menu!

It's a restaurant, perhaps reflecting its neighborhood, where people have an occasional beer, but George and the Dragon isn't a drinking hole. That changes the ambiance. The patrons looked well-off, but in that way in which they try hard not to look like they have money. Most of them wore clothes that made them look as if they had just come off the tennis court, or their bike, or after running a five-mile for a great cause. My wife and I still try to look nice when we go out. We don't dress down. Most of the people at George & the Dragon were in their fifties or sixties, including the servers, who were very earnest, if you know what I mean. I'm in my seventies, grew up in NYC, and still try to look hip, and I drink vodka quite often. Maybe that's why I felt uncomfortable. That decade and a half makes a huge difference in how we grew up, and what I experienced in the sixties and seventies. The food was okay, not great. The burger and chicken schnitzel tasted fair to middling. The room was also very loud, filled with exclamations from the tables of "women who lunch," feeling more comfortable with no men at their tables. That's also a demographic and Minneapolis thing. I doubt I'll return to George and The Dragon. I like bars.
