Took about 10 minutes, and I got my order w/ chips. How was the fish tacos? Easy to eat, fresh fish, but very little flavor. Maybe some salt and pepper might of helped. Also, not very filling. I won't order this again. I went back and ordered a "Burrito W/ 1 Filling" w/ shredded steak and refried beans. (Price $12.50). Very good burrito. Nice balance of steak, beans and rice. Fresh salsa gave it a delicious mix of flavors. Easy to eat. The restaurant itself is small, with large tables in the center and a small table. There's a bar for sitting at the window. All the parking spaces in front are "green 1-hour" zones. Would I return? YES....food is good, if you know what to order. Service was very friendly and prompt. read more

I really didn't like the food. I ordered 2 crispy carnitas tacos with chips and guac. The "crispy" tacos were soggy by the time I sat down to eat, 3 minutes later. The guac was literally mashed avocado, not even salted or with traditional ingredients. The onions & tomatoes didn't taste fresh either. The only somewhat good thing were the carnitas because it wasn't dry. My order was over $20 and I ended up throwing the avo mash away because it brown so quickly. read more

*a review during the COVID-19 pandemic* Maya's is one of my favorite local taquerias. It's located in Downtown Orinda (next to Nation's Hamburgers) so parking can be hard to find during the busy times of the day. Currently, they are doing take-out only and they used to have a salsa bar but right now they provided pre-filled salsa cups. The two salsa options they have are red (spicy) and green (mild). I personally the green salsa with my food. I either order the Maya's Tacos which are three mini tacos with cilantro and onion or the regular burrito which has a choice of meat, rice, beans, and salsa. They also have a burrito card where you get the 11th burrito free! Empty cards are usually at the counter and the cashier will stamp your card. read more

It was a hot Saturday afternoon and we were strolling around in Downtown Orinda. My husband who grew up in the area said he had a great place to take me. Maya Mexican Grill is a small establishment beaming with authentic cuisine. It seemed there were quite a few regulars there and it was nice seeing the community support a local business. The lady who took our order was very friendly. We went for the good ole carne asada burrito. It was filled with all the great fixings and chunks of steak! They are very huge burritos so I had to break up the meal just to finish it. A really great staple if you're craving for some burritos or good Mexican food! read more

While it can be a little tough to get a hold of Maya through the phone, once you do, they are responsive and fast and delicious! We had some odd requests ordering as a group, with lots of little variations, and they got them all right! Their Maya burrito with no meat, guacamole, and Mole on the side was delicious! Generously sized, scrumptious when dipped in mole, and was ready within 15 minutes. Their classic wet burritos are also always a good call, especially with verde sauce. I frequent maya almost 3 times a week and every time their burritos hit the spot. i'm not very knowledgeable about the rest but my family enjoys the whole menu. additionally i get my food super quickly and the salsa bar has the best salsa in the area. i can't stress enough about how good maya is. read more

Review #008 - 2020 Lately, I've been cooking at home more often so I haven't gone out to eat as much. My husband doesn't like to drive out of the area to grab food so I asked him too just pick up something on his way back home. He's eaten here a few times and he normally orders their burrito Maya, since he says that he likes the chocolate mole sauce. I tasted it, but didn't really care for it much. I got an order of their two fish tacos, which was ok. There wasn't much flavor and the fish didn't taste fresh. Luckily, their salsa was decent so it helped give it some flavor. My son had the steak super burrito & he said it was fine. The price isn't crazy expensive considering it's Orinda. We don't have very many food selections in our town so this place will do if I'm craving Mexican and too lazy to drive more than five minutes away from home. read more

My go-to place for Mexican food near home. Much better than the local competition. Yesterday I had chile verde Tacos Maya with their special sauce and they were excellent. Last week I had a steak burrito and told them to hold the rice, no problem, but they asked if the could add more of the other ingredients so it wouldn't be too "skinny" (their word). I appreciated that. Service is fast and there's usually a table available as most of their business seems to be take-out. Highly recommended! read more

Been ordering from Maya for years and have generally really enjoyed their food. They recently started putting their "crispy" tacos in store bought shells that look like they're from the box.. they used to fry them and they were excellent.. VERY disappointed by this switch. I also found the staff to be quite rude.. I did not tip on my last order (after generously tipping all through Covid) and the staff basically yelled "no tip??" at me when the ipad was turned. My order was less than 15 dollars. I don't plan on returning. read more

The chicken mole dinner is sublime. Order this dish if you love the warm taste of roasted peppers muddled with chocolate and spices. The chicken mole is boneless and served with rice and beans of your choice. I added fresh braised Brussels sprouts for a warming mole dinner everybody raved about. read more

This is my favorite Taqueria in Orinda! Their fast, convenient and it's really good! A combo meal is around $7.00 and quite plentiful! I LOVE the crispy tacos! Inside is small, but weeknights it's busy with to-go orders and some families like to sit and eat inside. The other day, our local firefighters stopped in and had dinner together, it's so nice to see community members support and enjoy an authentic meal together in our neighborhood! It's a great local spot, especially for those times you come home from work and are too tired to cook, give Maya a call and place your order... It's a short 10 minute wait! The inside decor, seats/chairs and condiment stand is a bit dated, and needs a slight face lift. Otherwise, this is a great local Mexican spot and there's parking all around. read more

What happened??? I was so disappointed with the store bought chips (subpar ones at that) and too creamy guacamole with a citric acid aftertaste,p. Worst of all, I double confirmed that my enchilada would be made with a corn tortilla due to a slight gluten sensitivity. I was so weirded out by its contents that it took a few bites to even register that they'd used a flour tortilla anyway. My dining partner, who received exactly what he asked for, says he feels like he just ate food laced with soap. We are both really regretting our meals right now! I used to be such a fan of Maya but at this point I'd only go back if the they had a complete overhaul. Between this and the terrible place across the freeway, I guess Orindans aren't meant to eat Mexican food. ¡Que lástima! read more

Love this hole in the wall right in Orinda! Whenever I'm craving a burrito, it's straight to Maya I go. I always order the super burrito with chicken and the ratio of ingredients are always spot on. Orinda is kind of a restaurant desert, and Maya is mostly mirage. I came in at 3pm on a Saturday looking for a quick bite. Chicken quesadilla with guacamole seemed like the best choice. Mediocre tortilla (how's that possible?), chicken that was mildly flavored, cheese that was just melted cheddar, drenched in watery sour cream, with an attractively-sized glomp of guacamole. I mean, it served its function to quell my crazy hunger. And it was still probably better than the greasy burger next door. But, really ... there's not much there. read more
