Last evening, my wife, son, and I visited Roam Artisan Burgers in Lafayette. It was recommended to us as a good place for a burger, so we decided to check it out.  Ordering is counter-style, with numbers given for the order. My son scoped out a table that was recently vacated, and we secured seating. I usually prefer places with more seating, but I'm always happy to see a business thriving. On our order was a Sunny Side Burger, a Tavern Burger, and a burger my son created with tomato, aged white cheddar, avocado, and mayo. He enjoyed an Alameda Soda Cream Soda. An order of fries for the table and some homemade ranch dressing made the meal complete. We enjoyed our burgers, and there was high praise from my wife and son. It was good enough for us to want to go again -whether Lafayette or San Ramon, the suggestion was great and I'd recommend them. Special bonus for the staff being kind, on point and going the extra mile. High praise to management for running a place that treats customers well. I really wanted to like this place since I've been here a few times. I ordered a friend chicken with the ranch on the side. They brought it to me with ranch on it. So I asked for it again because I'm lactose intolerant. They then bring me a new one with day old chicken strips that made it impossible to handle. I asked about it and they admitted they were made earlier and just had them ready so it would be faster. Super confused at this point. Why give me something old that I don't ask for because it is kinda close to what I did order? Then they explained that there is buttermilk in the chicken anyways so I should get the not fried chicken. I said fine. It do finally come a while later. The price increases and less food, ultimate shrinkflation. Kids meal (with cheese on the plain burger) itself is close to $20, and the side of fries in the tiny bag was barely full, just around 7 fries in that thing. 1/3 full. The husband called and they said their portion sizes did change. Really??? I suppose I'm just mad that my French n Fries burger got messed up. Instead of the Brie cheese, they put blue cheese. Not my thing, especially in this burger. Not the first time they got it wrong, and it takes so much time and effort to go back or to call and tell them. More money to add each single item to a point that it's ridiculous. Quality is still OK for the most part, but it has been very inconsistent the past few times we've ordered. We were told the salads were taking a long time but we watched a table who came 20 minutes after us get 3 salads before us - and another 10 minutes after that to get our food. The soup was terrible!! I tried Roam for the first time with a friend a little past 7pm on a Friday night. Our order was the Tejano burger, Sunny Side burger, brussels sprouts, season veggies (cauliflower), and sweet potato fries. It was pretty full when we got there, but we were able to promptly order and find two seats at the bar counter. The positives: Roam is clearly working with high quality ingredients. I appreciate any restaurant that is able to source locally. The burgers were balanced and constructed well. The flavor profiles and textures also made sense. The staff was also friendly and attentive. The ambiance is a bit noisy like a bar, but it's casual, hip, and probably meant to be that way. Areas for improvement: It took about 45 minutes for us to get our food. I understand that it was a busy night, but many people were waiting for a while. And it seemed like a lot of food came out at once. When we received ours, everything was colder than it should have been. The fries and veggies had clearly been sitting for a while, and the temperature of the burgers made it seem like they were warm, but not fresh off the grill. Had I come on a less busy time, perhaps my experience would have been different. However, 2 burgers, 3 sides, plus tip (no drinks) came out to just under $70.00. I don't think being served fresh and hot food is too big of an ask, even on a Friday night. I may try Roam again because I like the concept and ingredients. I tried surprising my wife and kids with takeout from one of my wife's favorite burger joints that we unfortunately hadn't frequented in a year. I hoped to have offered a relaxing evening turned into disappointment. My kids got chicken strip kids meals which worked out fine. But then it got sad. They forgot my wife's French fries she ordered. She wanted to share the summer veggies with bison meat, soup, and the summer time burger. All three portions were worth 1/3rd of what we got. The bison meat was actually beef and the portion of veggies was barely covering the container. The soup Says it's a quart for two servings and it was barely half a quart. Then my wife's burger had a tiny piece of mozzarella cheese and missed the tomato. It was nothing close to the picture describing the Summertime burger. Kids got through dinner happy with chicken but mom and dad had to dig through the fridge. Not worth the $100 bill. read more

I used to make it to Roam every few weeks, stopping in as I talked back and forth to Oakland. Those trips have become sporadic, but my love for their budgets remains unchanged. This trip I skipped the shake and went straight for the meat. My medium rare burger was juicy and satisfying. The egg on top made it perfect. If you don't want to skip the shake, the current seasonal flavor is Lemon Meringue. If that idea appeals, but you want to save on calories, the Meyer Lemon Soda is delicious. It has a nicely bitter edge. I really wanted to try the seasonal soup, which was Red Lentil with Thai Red Curry, Coconut Cream, Cilantro and Chili Oil. It's a must try for next time. Been here more than 50 times. Food is consistently good, but overpriced imo. Burgers close to $20 before sides with counter ordering. Regardless, we come back because we like it. Staff always seem nice and the place is clean. Not a fan of the recent redesign. It had this charming industrial/bistro styling before that was warm, elegant, yet casual and made you feel like the extra few dollars on your meal was worth it. We've been here twice now - first time for take out and second time we ate in! Burgers were great both times and definitely a "fancier" burger place. I like that you can get any of their style burgers with any type of meat. They even have bison! Fries were good and they have 3-4 rotating beers on tap too. Like all the reviews say, it definitely is a pricy lunch/dinner but I feel like it's pretty standard for the area and a "fancy" burger place. (ie Gott's or Broderick's in Walnut Creek". Parking is in a lot but with meters and they have an online order process or for dine-in you order at the counter and the staff bring out your food and the service is quick and efficient! The vibe is rustic and my only teeny tiny complaint is they have these metal chairs that scrape so loudly anytime anyone moves their chair back. Located in the La Fiesta Square Shopping Center in the heart of central Lafayette, Roam Artisan Burgers comes from owners and business partners Joshua Spiegelman and Lynn Gorfinkle, who have brought their concept of providing freshly made hamburgers from locally sourced supplies such as farmers and ranchers who they insist are dedicated to traditional methods of agriculture. This model of contentious environmentalism stretches all the way to the crafting of their restaurant's interior by using reclaimed wood and LED lighting and energy efficient appliances. I have experienced this welcoming atmosphere first-hand by being able to visit with friends their Union Street location in San Francisco, and their soft-opening of their now closed location in the uptown neighborhood in downtown Oakland. When a group of friends wanted to get a quick lunch after a day of shopping in nearby downtown Walnut Creek, the last place that we wanted to dine in was the chaotic downtown area there, so I suggested we go off the beaten path, at least for people in this area and head towards downtown Lafayette in visit a new place. Getting off the Central Lafayette freeway exit and finding this location of Roam Artisan Burgers was the only real challenge as downtown Lafayette's streets are so narrow and one-way only depending on where you turn. Thankfully, La Fiesta Square has its own parking lot, with metered parking, mind you, which is still only a quarter per fifteen minutes, so be sure to have coins on you at all times. When we arrived after the main lunch hour, they were not packed with very many customers, as there was no line to order. It's all fast-casual concept here at Roam Artisan Burgers as you order at their counter, which also serves as a bar, in which they also have beers on tap, and they give you a number to take to your table while you wait for your order to be created. The menu at Roam Artisan Burgers is separated into their Burgers, Sides & Salads, Drinks & Shakes and Kids. What is so unique about dining on their signature burgers at Roam Artisan Burgers is that you can order your option of main protein from Beef, Turkey, Bison and Veggie. Since we were craving burgers we knew we wanted burgers and there were a lot of good options to choose from. I ordered their Heritage which featured applewood smoked bacon, aged white cheddar, butter lettuce, tomato, caramelized onions and aioli, and my friends decided to split their French N' Fries which truffle parmesan fries, brie, avocado, caramelized onions, greens, Worcestershire sauce and stone ground mustard. To pair with our meal, we shared an order of their Sweet Potato Fries. And since we all love milkshakes, we ordered and shared their 12 ounces sizes of their Salted Caramel and Mint Chip shakes. Once we found a table to sit at, we went and got complimentary filtered water at their condiment and utensil station. It didn't take too long for our shakes to be brought out first, and they were such a delight, as they were made with Straus Family Creamery Organic Ice Cream and they were so thick that the only way to drink it was with a spoon! Then came our burgers and sweet potato fries, of which the burgers were split in half per our request, and they were hearty and delectable as they were filled with an abundance of fresh ingredients. We also loved our Sweet Potato Fries as they filled us up, and our shakes were the perfect dessert to make our meal complete. I cannot wait to come back to Roam Artisan Burgers as their burgers are unique enough that with every visit you can get a whole new experience. I can't wait to come back and try their "new" Fried Chicken Sandwich. I do acknowledge that their prices are on the higher side, as their average price is over fifteen dollars for their signature burgers, and our total bill was $56.55 before gratuity was added in. Generally very tasty burgers and sides, but just way too expensive for what you get. $15 for the French and Fry burger which had too much mustard and was a bit too salty for my liking. While I enjoyed eating it, I think the brie and avocado were a bit too rich for me :( It was quite the heavy meal along with the greasy zucchini and onion haystack which are fried real thin so you can't even tell there are veggies in it. My husband had the Sunny Side burger and enjoyed it with fries. Great service, and we ordered our beef patties with some pink inside. For a $15 gourmet burger I think I was expecting some more quality and flavor, but it was tasty and hits the spot for a burger craving. Good vibes inside and outside. I'd like to give everything 5 stars but it's just not always possible. So I LOVE their fries! Their fry fecta and specifically their sweet potato fries. They are hands down MY favorite sweet potato fry around. I always get their farmers market salad cuz it always had yummy fresh ingredients, often times the dress is bland and flavorless but overall I crave this and enjoy eating it. This particular visit I wanted a protein added so I asked for an egg over easy. I mean you tell me... by the looks of the photo... that sure looks raw as a MF lol. ( I ate it anyway) but yea NOoooo good! And they egg was flavorless so it def came in bulk and is not very fresh. Not like this is fine dining but a good egg is hard to come time these days lol. This burger place was a favorite of my family. We come here for special occasions as the burgers are very pricey. We came for Mother's Day and it was delicious. Unfortunately today's (7/4/25) burgers were not up to expectations. 2 of the 3 burgers were undercooked as I can see red in the middle. We didn't ask for medium rare as most burgers are cooked to medium unless specified otherwise. This has happened before so I'm wondering if the "cook" is checking the temp of the burger before plating it. My kids ate it though but if they get sick, we will have to find another burger place. The other burger (French n Fries) had a horse radish taste (not one of the ingredients) which my stomach can not handle and I'm paying the price for it now. I hope this was just an off day as it's not worth paying a lot of money for undercooked burgers. We will give it one more try but it'll be a while before I come back. It was a busy Saturday night and the line to order was long at times but the bar area was a great place to relax. The place was busy but the service was great. I had their classic burger and soup. What a clean, well organized and superbly managed establishment. The place is so modern and clean. You walk in and are immediately greeted, welcomed and served. Large, open space with many windows and such a nice display. The service here is impeccable and the attitudes of the employees are warm, friendly and knowledgeable. We love the Pacific burger and also add an egg. Yummy! We live quite close to this location, so we walk over.
