Chorizo corn fritters ( so yummy) scallops with anchovy butter ( amazing ) then Spanish sausage in reduced red wine ( flavour upon flavour )

Such an enjoyable evening , food was fantastic as well as service . If you get the chance stop in at this little gem but make sure to have reservations as always busy.

Loved the atmosphere on Maya Norte's patio. Glad I got there early as it filled up quick (as expected for Friday nights anywhere). There was a lot of selection to choose from, from both the regular tapas menu and the black board specials. Between two of us we chose 4 tapas which were small but satisfying. The lime prawns and roasted Brie are delicious! I will certainly be going back again. It's only expensive if you order a lot of tapas and want to fill up on a lot of food, otherwise it's reasonably priced if you are there to just drink and snack. You get what you pay for. Service was decent and speedy.

Everything was bland, food over-fried, not very authentic, served 2 tablespoons of guacamole for $7 guac and chips. Very meh experience.

This will be a place we frequent often. Great food and excellent service. Looking forward to when the patio opens this spring.

I have to start by saying I'm originally from Mexico city and have lived in Duncan for the past 11…read moreyears. I'm an extremely picky mexican eater. My now husband since we met has been trying to take me to mexican restaurants on the island and it has been a disaster. So far none was not near my liking, or remote approval... until now. The restaurant is run by a mexican (which in my eyes makes a huge difference because he knows what real mexican food tastes like, not the horrible tex-mex they try to sell as mexican food (and I had never tried until I moved to Canada)). Even when lot of ingredients will never be found in Canada (due the different type of regulations plus the way food is grown and process here) this has been the closest I had felt as home in a very long time. I had the enchiladas, and they started bringing us a very tasty barbacoa type of soup (courtesy of the house). And they even offer to bring is more lime if it didn't have enough (if you are mexican, you know you need your lime for soups). After that they brought me mu enchiladas which have a really good size. They were green with cheese (just like I like them). Super tasty to the point I was eating them with a spoon. For drink they even have Jarritos, which are traditional mexican pop (and also brings me childhood memories, since the factory is not that far away from my parents house). Also they have Aguas frescas (fresh water) of Horchata (which is made of rice flour and cinnamon, super yummy) and Jamaica (which is a flower and it is quite refreshing) Staff was super friendly and inside and outside the restaurant is really nice. Sad to see people giving low reviews due business issues but not for the food itself. ‍ Personally this is one of the few restaurants on the island that I could say it is real mexican food. (The rest ... I rather eat sushi) You make your own decision.

The pork was out of this world, best pork tacos I've ever had. Fish and shrimp tacos were good as well. This could be the best Mexican restaurant in Canada and it's just sitting out here in the middle of nowhere. Friendly staff too, appears to be family run. If you live in Victoria it's worth the drive to check this spot out

This is about the worst Mexican food I've eaten, and I've eaten in many Mexican restaurants,…read moreincluding in Mexico. I got chicken quesadillas. The chicken inside was ok. They arrived on a paper in a plastic basket and were drenched in grease. The sour cream on the side was very watery. The salsa fresca was mostly just diced up flavorless tomatoes; very bland. Plus there was just a tiny cup of each, so not much to cut the greasiness. Waitress never came out to see if I wanted anything more. The horchata (rice drink) was also at least twice as watery as normal. Are they cutting costs by watering things down? The outside eating area could have been nice, but it is very neglected. The pots held mostly weeds and the seats and ground had lots of old dead leaves. It's summer now, not Fall, so those leaves have been there a while. The food was very slow in coming even though there was just one other table. (Folks at that table were also complaining of the long wait). The reggae music was nice (but a further indication this is not a real Mexican place). This place needs some serious attention from someone who cares.
