I don't know if they post other people's photo's or what their deal is because we had an awful experience with henna. We called a day ahead asking whether we need to make an appointment for henna. The lady on the phone said no, just come in. So we went in the next day, there was only one woman there. We asked her for designs from their google and Yelp photos. She said that's too complicated. She called someone, not sure what was said and then says she can only do something simple. We would've left but my niece was so excited about her first henna. We showed her a very simple design of flowers (please see the photos of my niece's hands, she could've done that herself and she's six). She then "gave us a discount" by only charging us $30 for both hands. I didn't want to make a scene because I didn't want to make my niece cry, so we paid it. Never again. Beware of this scam. Edited: While I appreciate your offer we are going to decline. And with all due respect, that design had nothing to do with a 6 year old moving. I suggest moving forward you indicate on your website that you are by appointment only, and perhaps let your coworkers know that as well so they can answer questions appropriately and not wait people's time. Be sure to include the days of the week too, since we came today which is actually a Monday and not Sunday. Perfect eyebrow threading. I came here before closing on a Friday evening. The threader was really considerate and gentle, asking me what I wanted. I said I wanted to just clean my brows up, and do minimal shaping. She did exactly that. It was fast, painless, and she had such a calm, sweet and kind demeanor. This place is a treasure. This place is conveniently located. I had 10 minutes to kill before meeting family for dinner so I was in and out in no time. Came in and saw the technician alone. She put her mask on as soon as I came in and checked my temperature repeatedly until the device registered a number. She threaded my brows easily and applied aloe vera. (I just got my eyebrow microblade touch up today and my girl has to clean up my eyebrows more hence the 3 stars.) Funny thing here is that they charge $9 for the service and when I gave her a $20, she asked if I needed change. Yes, ma'am, I am not in a position to give over 100% tip. I've been going to the UWS location for several years and the women there are so nice and do a good job, but I was frustrated tonight because I rushed there after work and got there at 7:15 (they close at 7:30) and was turned away. There was another customer also being turned away and was very annoyed. My suggestion to the owner would be to post your closing at 7pm but employees work until 7:30 to finish any customers coming in near closing time and to lock up etc. Why would you post store closing at 7:30 if you are closing your register before 7:15? It's upsetting because I am a loyal customer there and did go out of my way to make it, in what I thought, was on time. read more

Located on Japan street in east village, this walk in and casual threading place was a cool find. My sister in law and I walked in wanting to get our eyebrows and upper lips done. It was super quick (like5-8 min per person), and only cost $7 for eyebrows and $5 for upper lip. Btw, pay in cash because there's an additional $2 surcharge if you pay with a card The lady didn't ask what we wanted in our eyebrows but it turned out good. If you want something other than maintenance (like she just returned our eyebrow to its natural shape and took out all of the overgrown hair) then you should communicate that with them. THE BEST WAX OF MY LIFE. I went for a Brazilian ($25!!!!), underarm and eye brow thread for vacation. She was so fast and gentle and awesome. I had no irritation or discomfort. I am honestly shocked by the experience. I used the honey wax, but they also offered chocolate wax. My eyebrow thread was flawless. Just amazing. The salon was not fancy. At all. Went for a leg and bikini wax. My skin was ripped off... it is the first time that happened to me... I have a sensitive skin but the redness usually disappear within an hour. The pictures shows my skin 24hourd later and it looks getting worse. I was surprised because the lady did not prep my skin nor calm it with oil or cream after the waxing. I thought that this place would be great from all the positive reviews but it was a disappointment. I don't usually wax/thread often but the few times that I have, it wasn't that painful and there were no hairs left. When I came here, I wanted to do threading on upper lip and waxing on underarms. I don't exactly know who did it for me but I did a walk-in and they seated me almost immediately and that was the highlight of the whole experience. I made it pretty well known that I don't thread/wax often and I think the lady took that as a 'it doesn't matter if it's good or not then.' She did everything as quickly as possible with no care if the wax was hot. There was also a bunch of hair left on my underarms and upper lip. To top it off, she didn't even offer a mirror to see if I was content with the job. She just left and I was pressured to leave as soon as it was done. I won't be coming back and I would advise people that are not accustomed to waxing/threading to not come either. read more

I'm writing this review about their UWS location (546 Columbus Ave). Every time I've been before, it was excellent - quick, relaxing, and friendly. I just had a very odd experience that I feel was not representative of my previous experiences, but feel compelled to write so that management can hopefully address. I walked in today at around 12:30pm and asked for an Herbal Facial. The girl working there - who was sitting on her cell phone in an empty store - immediately asked me if I could come back tomorrow because she was the only one working at it was busy (again, empty store). When I said I wasn't available tomorrow, she loudly sighed and walked upstairs to prepare the room. Her daughter was in there, which is totally and completely fine and understandable - go working moms! - but she was BLASTING YouTube videos on American Girl Dolls in the room immediately next to mine. You'll notice if you've been upstairs that the walls do not connect all the way to the top of the ceiling, so it was as if she was in the room playing it right beside me. Not very relaxing at all. The esthetician then spilled water on the floor while filling the steam machine and said 'Careful, there's water there', instead of cleaning it up. She then gave me a hurried (i.e. aggressive) facial while shouting to her daughter in the next room. Again, I have no problems with mothers bringing their kids to work, but to be actually shouting when our faces are about a foot apart (and where I'm paying for a relaxing experience) seems inappropriate. To top it off, after the mask had dried, she told me to walk all the way downstairs through the entrance and big windows (in my robe, with goop all over my face) to go wash off my own face! After seeing my the look of horror on my face, she told me I could put my clothes on and wiped off some of the mask herself. I still had to walk downstairs to the staff bathroom - where there was an unflushed toilet and dirty mop water - and wash off my own face and then dry it with a paper towel, since there were no clean towels anywhere to be found. I have to emphasize how peculiar this was, because I've been to this location several times and have always had outstanding experiences. I would likely return for one more try, just in case this was an off day, but if this is the standard experience, then I will not be returning to the UWS location. read more

I finally figured out the secret to the mini eyebrow massage - it's Nasreen! I got her the last two times and she is THE BEST. She is the reason I loved PTS originally, and I just don't think I've gotten her for at least a year now. Maybe she's only there on the weekdays? At least, she's definitely there on Mondays. In an area of the East Village categorized by restaurants and bars with high turnover, overpriced pashima shawl vendors (they're cheaper in Chinatown!), and a karaoke bar where I may or may not have belted out "Born in the USA" in my younger years, there is a wonderful threading salon, located on the second floor of 11 St. Mark's. Nazma was extremely meticulous when threading my eyebrows. Not a hair was out of place and she really took her time. The complimentary temple massage helped alleviate the tension headache I was experiencing earlier that day. And to think: this was only $5. Not only does Nazma thread, but she also offers waxing and facials. I might have to come back for henna tattoos, as the prices are very reasonable. Negatives- - I don't think I got Nazma. The place was completely empty when I went in and the 2 women working were on the phone. One of them hung up when I came in but get this -- her cell phone rang halfway through the middle of my threading and she immediately stops what she's doing and answers the phone. - Ditto to a previous reviewer who said the threading had a little more 'friction'. It definitely stung a little more than what I'm used to - I'm not sure if it's the thread or the technique or what. - Even after all that, I still would have given 3 stars but the chick who did my eyebrows was super unfriendly to me and talked to me like I was an idiot. She lotioned my eyebrows afterwards but I asked for the stuff that prevents ingrown hairs (Tendskin?) and the conversation went like this: Me: Can you also put on the stuff that prevents ingrown hairs? Her: Uh if you stop tweezing youll stop getting ingrown hairs. Me: ...Well okay but I just need- Her: What do you want? What you're talking about doesn't exist. Me: What? No, I've had it at every other threading place I've been to. Her: Oh do you mean the blue bottle stuff? Yeah we always have that. Just not today. We ran out. Me: Alright. The special chocolate wax she used must have had something to do with it. The best part? The price. A Brazilian that easily could run up to $50 dollars was only $30! DO NOT go here to get a brazilian wax. It was a terrible experience and I will never go back. The procedure took too long and was EXTREMELY painful, and I am injured as a result. It ruined my vacation and I don't think I can ever get another wax again b/c I'm so traumatized. I do not have a low threshold for pain, I have gotten these before and they were swift and minimally painful as expected. This was not a normal occurrence and the fact that the person who waxed me didn't even mention I was hurt is what really bothered me the most. They even had the gall to charge me for the service after what they did, and said it's a normal occurrence when I called them the next day b/c all was not well. I think not. To make matters worse, I felt sort of violated b/c the room was uncomfortable, small, and did not have full walls to the ceiling - I could hear the girl in the other room getting a wax, and she even complained, "It doesn't normally hurt this much, what's wrong?" The door was left open a few times, and the waxer walked in and out a few times to get supplies - seemed like she was not prepared to do this, and was rather nervous. Maybe the salon was backed up and she just decided to give it a go. The only redeeming thing was that the lady at the counter was not rude and did give me a refund. First time ever getting a Brazillian wax! Like many, I spent hours...(seriously how embarrassing wasting time out of my precious life to research groupon and yelp reviews about getting a downstairs wax... the things we do!!) So I found the professional threading studio, from a review on allure magazines top salons and then saw they had a groupon and was only $24 for a brazillian wax. So I rang the studio before purchasing the groupon and they were very warm and nice and asked had I already purchased the deal, I said no, and they said that's good because we now offer that price in store anyways so you don't need to purchase it online. I was happy about this as it seemed that they must have gotten a lot of groupon customers and were happy with the business it brought in that they changed their actual price in store for everyone to enjoy. I booked my appointment for lunchtime Thursday, when the day came I actually couldnt make the appointment and ended up ringing them like 3 times that day, first I thought I would be late so wanted to ring ahead and make sure that if I was late that the person scheduled after me could kindly take my place. The woman on the phone was so nice all the times I rang and never got annoyed from all my calls. Anyways so I had to cancel the appointment alltogether but was able to rebook for Saturday. Again I thought I would be late (I live in New Jersey and the path wanted to get delayed 20 minutes that day) so I rang ahead again, the woman said there was a lady scheduled for an appointment after mine so I said thats no problem I can wait around until she's ready, as it was my problem I was late. She said it should be quick because each appointment lasts no longer than 15 minutes. I was like woah! Yeah I forgot they do this procedure quick!! From what I had read online anyways lol the professionals do it in under 15 minutes so I was extra excited to just get in and out. I get there and am the only one in the place, its a cute studio where I presume they do hair too as they had hair salon seating in the main room, then a lovely woman came out and said ok we will give this woman a few more minutes as it wasnt exactly bang on the time she was meant to have hers at. After I picked up a magazine, 3 other ladies came in, so I thought one of them was the lady going before me, actually none of them were and they were all walk ins which was cool as I was glad I had booked ahead. So bang on the hour or half hour (precise, I like!) the woman told me I could go ahead as the other lady was now late. So she leads me down a pretty narrow hallway into a back room that was pretty small but extremely clean. She closed the door behind her as she left and I was kind of left in the dark...I mean if I hadnt read up so much about this procedure online I wouldnt have really know you gotta remove everything down below...I know some websites and places offer like a thong style underwear to cover your modesty but thats mostly just for bikini line waxing. When you're getting a full brazillian though you gotta be all naked, I was freaking out going omg I'm going to break that table when I sit up on it and omg this and that haha! The room was tiny and Im not a size 0!! Anyways I get bottom half nekkid and then in comes another lady whom I hadnt met, she was an older woman and was smiling at me and asking me how I was. Out of nervouseness I laughed and said ok this is my first time, and I ask too many questions in general daily but this was crazy I was asking her whats this and that and where do i put my legs blah blah haha she was lovely and put my legs into a frog like position (like one of the videos I had watched on youtube) so she basically began straight away which was good! Honestly I am a big baby drama queen when it comes to pain and even shout 'ow!!" if someone just comes up behind me and scares me...like who does that!! haha! but I wanted to surprise my man that night and was going to battle through this! NO PAIN NO GAIN LOL! She began and was talking through the procedure, which at times made me laugh and I couldnt help myself but I just kept thinking who asks someone a question at the precise moment you're going to rip their hair out with a wax strip haha but I loved that trying to remember what she asked kept my mind of the slight pain. I say slight because seriously I kind of enjoyed it halfway through lol it was nowhere near as painful as I thought it would be. But I must admit she told me I was one of the lucky ones as I didnt have coarse hair down there as most women do. I read about the horrors of ingrown hairs and everything I was freaked out but she just told me neosporin is your best friend and layered me up before she left the room after finishing and I got a tube for homecare and have had no ingrowns nothing! I've been getting my brows done at Shobha for some time now, but I was honestly fed up with paying $22 before tip. I know that everyone has horror stories of cheap threading places butchering their eyebrows, and I was apprehensive about going anywhere else. But I figured I'd look on Yelp and see what my options were. I was really worried about paying just $6 for brow threading, but the reviews for this place are excellent. I made an appointment with Tina (since I saw her mentioned here a few times) for 6pm on a Sunday. The place is very small and Tina seemed to be the only one working there, but she still had me in and out in about 15 minutes. And the verdict is in- my brows are fantastic! I explained I liked my brows thick, and wanted to keep their basic shape and really just needed them cleaned up. I can't really tell the difference between what Tina did and what I get done at Shobha, but it did save me 16 bucks! I did get more red afterwards than usual, and the skin around my brows was even bumpy, which went away in about an hour. But I have VERY sensitive skin and I didn't warn Tina beforehand. She put some aloe vera lotion on afterwards which helped. read more

I started seeing them about a year ago for brazillians, and can't believe I had put it off for so long! I've seen the good, the bad, and the VERY ugly when it comes to these things. the ladies at PTS are professional and efficient and do an amazing job every time. They wax the old fashioned way, so yes ladies it will hurt a bit (you are getting the hair pulled out of your lady parts after all), but Tina and co work fast and I'm done in 20 minutes. Plus they get EVERYTHING, and I'm not stinging afterwards. I've been coming here for almost two years now so it's about time I wrote a review. I suggest calling beforehand. Sometimes it gets busy and you have to wait if you don't have an appointment. But they are more than willing to put you on the calendar ahead of time. Plus i started getting my eyebrows threaded here, and I'm never going back to eyebrow waxes ever. I find that if they get a little to thin, I tell them to just clean up underneath rather than on top and bottom. Some pro tips I've learned if it's your first time getting a Brazilian (actually I still do most of these): -Take an ibuprofen before--helps keep swelling under control -Don't go near or on your period, your skin is more sensitive down there during that time -Shower beforehand as a courtesy--and sometimes getting into hot water after the wax can be a little uncomfortable -don't use any exfoliating wash for the next day (or ouch!) -use neosporin or cortisone to keep down swelling, irritation, or soreness. Then switch to an ingrown hair product after a day or two. This with help keep things smooth and let your hair grow back in nicely And take deep breaths. It's over before you know it ;) read more

On average Tina says she does 15-20 Brazilian waxes a day. She truly knows what she is doing. It's a no thrills place and the room isn't that private with a large space between the wall and the ceiling. Forgive me for not knowing the names of the ladies who touch my most private areas, lol, but I've been going here for over a year to get Brazilian waxes. They use chocolate wax, which is great, because it doesn't irritate my sensitive skin. It's only $25 too, which is very inexpensive compared to a lot of other places. I usually go to the same lady every month, and she's great. Like I said, I'm bad with names, but she's gentle, clean, and works to make you feel super comfortable during the whole process. However, I went today and had a new lady all I could feel was her going over the same spots over and over and over again. At the end, not even all of the wax was gone from my body and she left all of the used wax strips sitting on the bed as she left the room for me to get dressed. She also threaded down there really harshly, which I don't even like to begin with. Clean-ups usually consist of tweezing. They also do eyebrows/face threading and waxing. One time, I decided to get my eyebrows done because I was already here for my Brazilian. I HATE THREADING, and even though I told them that - they ended up cleaning up with threading after my eyebrow wax... what the??? So I'm never doing my brows here again. Negatives: - I was never offered the option to use hard wax even though that is what I wanted - Very unthorough, no plucking afterwards or any of the usual steps other places follow to ensure a thorough wax. When I left I might as well have not gone for a wax at all. I got another one not long after. - The wax was scalding hot and even though I told the lady several times, she neglected to fix it and I was left to endure the pain. - It took 45 minutes to an hour. Usually it takes 15 - 20 minutes. - She left the room to answer a phone call for at least 5 - 10 minutes in between. - The door to the room I was in was kept open the entire time I got my wax, even when another client entered the store. - She dripped wax all over my socks and ruined them. Every time I walk past the Salon I still cringe at the thought of the awful experience I had. I don't know if Nazma was just not on top of her game that day or whether she has an identical twin who is completely incompetent and unprofessional in regards to this industry.
