Second time at a Shobha. The first time was last year for the Yelp Elite event in midtown East when I had a sugar bikini wax. It was a last minute decision to come after getting a few text messages about 15 percent off service. The SoHo location is closer to me. It's on the fourth floor of an office building so not as stand alone and not as nice as the midtown office. Without an appointment I was able to get my wax within seconds of arrival. The front desk woman was really friendly. There were other ppl there getting their eyebrows threaded. The sugar wax went ok. It just wasn't as great as the service as my first time at the midtown East location. It was obviously asymmetric so I had to ask for it to be fixed. The decor of Shobha - SoHo is bright and clean. Their staffs were super friendly and patient to explain everything in details since this was my first time to do Bikini (wax). I visited this place after securing a Yelp Elite Pass for an eyebrow threading session. I most confess I was 10 mins late due to having a very difficult time looking for the building. It's hidden under a scaffolding and it's two buildings with one entrance. Super confusing! Luckily I arrived and was taken care of. The gentlemen at reception had a hard time looking for my name but, after mentioning it was a reservation made with the Yelp Elite Pass he was able to solve the problem. The space offers 6 spacious work chairs for customers as well as a beautiful of display of various products ranging from skin to hair care. I rarely touch my brows but wanted to get a little vavavoom for a wedding coming up so I made an appointment for just a tinting, no tweezing or waxing. The team here is beyond accommodating, complete with friendly faces and offers of water and tea. After a very short wait I was in and out in probably 10 minutes with new and improved brows. If you are having trouble finding the building, you are not alone!!! It's inside an office building so you go into the lobby, let the doorman know you are there for Shoba and he'll tell you where to go from there. It was my first visit here and I used the Yelp Check In offer so lucky for me it was free. The host was friendly and the check in process was very easy. I booked the appointment online and the process was easy. I'd also recommend booking online because I tried calling couple times before and I never got a hold of the customer service. Also you can cancel or reschedule the booking online as well. I booked a Brazilian waxing service. My technician was very friendly and made sure I felt comfortable at all times. Shobha has several locations around the city! The SoHo location is on the 4th floor of the building, suite 403. It's extremely clean, has excellent decor and great service. Front desk was quick to check me in for my appointment, asked if I needed the restroom and told me where it was. (It's outside the suite and kind of tricky to find.) Service was excellent. So I usually get my eyebrows done at the Shobha location by Columbus circle so I'm no stranger to the brand. I decided to go to one closer to my house because I was flying out the next day for my birthday. I figured it's the same company so no worries right? The lady Sunita took no more than 5 minutes on my brows. She stated that she can't do anything because she doesn't want to go too thin but she literally didn't do anything but clean it up when I told her I want an arch. I'm aware I don't have the ideal eyebrows but the ladies usually make it work. I paid 22 dollars for my eyebrows to look how I came in. If you couldn't do it you should've said something before I sat in your chair. Don't bother coming to this location. I'll be going back to my previous location. I'm really disappointed. read more

Very glad for Shobha, as they were open for super last minute, desperate times in need of an eyebrow cleanup. As the other salons were closed or needed much in advance reservations, I went to Shobhas for the first time. The salon was clean and spacious, with staff there to greet you at the door. I was looking for a salon with good reviews of esthetician and cleanliness when I got a Yelp Elite invite for the Shobha Soho branch. The staff is extremely nice and courteous. I took an appointment but had to reschedule it twice due to impromptu work meetings. Every time they were patient and warm over the call. It is a little tricky to find this place. My google maps said that I reached but I still couldn't find the entrance to this place. Wasted a couple of minutes searching for the building when it was in front of me all the time! This is the third Shobha location I've been too! I love the cleanliness of each location and the professionalism that Shobha holds. I love that teacher discounts that Shobha gives and just know it's super appreciated! In regards for their service, my technician made the process very comfortable and explained each step. I've been to other places for my wax and it has been super painful. Shobha has made my experience less painful and I just keep coming back! I visited Shobha in Soho as part of a Yelp event and was given a free Brazilian wax. I had Sunita as my waxer and she was amazing. I had originally wanted to try sugaring, but she said it was better for me to do regular wax and I appreciated her honesty.  She was great! I had minimal pain and was comfortable the whole time. There was no double dipping and I felt like everything was very clean. She did little tricks to make the experience as least painful as possible, which is always appreciated. Her post wax routine is also great at soothing the area and reducing the redness. If I were to come back. I'd definitely request her again. Just a heads up--the salon is in an office building and it is a little confusing to get to. The bathroom is also far away from the salon and the building is quite a maze. I had a great experience as Shobha last week. I desperately needed to get my eyebrows threaded. I normally am loyal to the place I go to in Flatiron, but being right before the holidays, I had no time to go there. First time going to a Shobha location, let alone hearing about them. Hidden in an office building located on the 4th floor of a very loopy hallway. I was actually very surprised there were quite a few customers there. I was greeted by two ladies at the front desk, I gave them my name for my treading appointment and was in the chair within 3 mins. I was then greeted by Arissa, who did an excellent job on my brows. The establishment was very bright, clean and inviting. Arissa asked me what shape I liked and then proceeded to work her magic. She started by giving me a sanitizing wipe for my hands as she would need my assistance holding down my eyelid while she was threading. After the she finished threading them, she proceeded to massage my brows with rose water which smelled amazing. After that she placed a cool cloth over my brows to help close my pores. Then she filled in my brows for me. The process was actually one of the most relaxing I've ever had. Not sure how often I would come here though, as it is very much out of the way and hidden. read more

Before anything else, I have to compliment my technician, Frances! She was wonderful - calm, conversational, and even directed me to the right service - so major props to her! I found Shobha as part of a Yelp Elite event and was able to snag a spot for the event in SoHo. Given that I have some upcoming warm weather trips, I opted for an underarm sugaring for the first time. Scheduling was easy, the front desk check-in was pleasant, and the overall salon was neat and relaxing. Upon arriving, Frances did a test of the sugaring and explained that waxing would yield much better results based on hair type - I really appreciated her expertise and guiding me to the right option! I came here a few days before an important event and I wanted to make sure I looked perfect. I walked in and it was all smiles and niceties which is always great when you go someplace for the first time. I went in to have some threading done (read full face and eyebrows) because I just cant stand myself hairy (also I love the smooth feel of threading, so I've definitely gone to a million other threading places but I was looking for a "nicer" more "professional" place). Well, I believe I was paired up with Datta who was not what I expected to say the least. She definitely let me know she was having a long day by sighing ever so often throughout the service and at one point recommended that I should've just gotten waxed or try laser. Um, thank you for the rudeness--not that I asked. Anyhow, she probably realized that she was not giving great service and started attempting some cheerfulness. I gave her a tip ( lucky for her I had cash on hand and my mother raised me right) and paid for the service which was no more special (yet more expensive) than I could have gotten at any other run of the mill place. Women are extremely selective about anything related to grooming one's self, ESPECIALLY when it comes to getting their eyebrows done. I rarely get my eyebrows done as I can't bear to see another crappy job and then wait MONTHS to grow them back. My bridesmaids and I were in the city shopping for dresses and we literally ALL needed our eyebrows done. I figured that as we were in the best city on earth, we would be able to find a good eyebrow place. Ny magazine rated Shobha as one of the top five places in the city for eyebrows. We decided to try it out. My specialist was Simmi. BOY WAS SHE GOOD. Her hands are magical! Shobha only threads eyebrows and out of 4 of us girls, none of us had ever had our eyebrows threaded as we were fearful of whether or not it would hurt. Surprisingly, threading (for me) hurt MUCH less than waxing. All four of us were extremely happy with the results. I even bought the eyebrow pencil. I will definitely be back here every time I come to the city. Also, if you bring/refer a friend, you get $10 off. A Brazilian is no caipirinha on the beach, ladies, but you don't need me to tell you that! While I was ready for a moderate amount of pain, I was certainly not prepared for sugaring to hurt significantly more than waxing. As I whimpered in pain and attempted deep breathing to deal I asked my technician if she herself had an affinity for Brazil. Her resounding "NO" made a lot of sense to me in that very painful moment. Luckily, the cool compress at the end almost makes up for the intense pain. ALMOST. I'd definitely return to Shobha to get my brows threaded though I'm not sure I'd take another trip to Brazil here. Service, from the person I made the appointment with to the person who checked me in to the person I paid before leaving, is impeccable. In that regard, Shobha really raises the bar. read more

Update 3/26: Frances is still fantastic as always for threading and waxing, but since I've finally convinced myself to come around and try their laser session, this is going to be a more focused review on that particular service: 1. Cost: I didn't buy the package at all. Why? Because I was uncertain if my skin would take to laser well, especially since its sensitive in general, and it was unclear if the sensitivity would cause damage as the laser power increased each time. At the very beginning, it didn't make sense to me to splurge on a package if that meant there was a chance I would waste hard earned $$$ on services I may decide not to need in the future. I noticed that halfway through, the cost had dropped from $130ish to $99 per session. 2. Laser specialists: ARISA is their most senior laser specialist. She is really sweet and explains each step to you as she goes. I did all 8 of my sessions with her. (yea it took THAT long... darn those stubborn hairs- it's the fine baby hairs are are the toughest to rid of!) I really thought I was done after that, but 3 months later I saw significant regrowth...which was pretty upsetting. Made my most recent appointment with TARU- their second most senior specialist since Arisa is off on Fridays. I think TARU is such a gem! I would definitely go back to her in the future. She was very thorough throughout the process and made me feel very comfortable. She explained to me that generally, she sees that after all the laser sessions are done, I would probably end up coming back for touchups 3 months later and then another 6 months later. So I might be back in the fall! It's nice to know so that I can keep my expectations in check with reality. Did I mention she was very thorough?! Like, she asked me if I felt any zapping and when I said I didn't she raised it a bit and then went over the area. Cooling gel before and aloe to follow. Both were great with emphasizing on aftercare- ie. Sunblock, avoid direct sun, don't come back in the summer if you can, etc. 3. Regarding pain: With laser in general- I felt that the middle sessions were generally more painful than the first and the latter ones. You just gotta get through that middle hump and then you're golden! Its easy to give up and walk away halfway in- and it isn't unheard of. 4. Machines: I believe there are 2. They start off with the lower voltage one and proceed to the stronger one later on. 5. Last but not least: you have to be comfortable shaving the area if you decide to embark on your laser journey. It took me a while to wrap my mind around it so... The more (and earlier) you know...give yourself time to process that, because you cannot wax or thread between sessions AT ALL. The laser specialists will also shave the area before starting the laser treatment before each session. Hope that was helpful and good luck! ---- My go to place for brow threading and bikini waxing with non other than Frances! She's absolutely patient, thorough, and down-to-earth. So happy that I found this place on Yelp! Since I moved from San Francisco a couple of months ago, I had a really hard time finding a salon I was impressed with until today! This was the first time I got my eyebrows done and didn't feel like I looked better than when I came in. Although I really appreciated the attempt at cleanliness, two things about this threading really stood out: 1. It really hurt. I just felt like the threader was threading my brows in slow motion. 2. It looked like my left brow was over plucked. It couldn't be fixed because then I would really be looking crazy. I just left feeling disappointed. Everyone was friendly and the space was cute. However, I didn't feel the experience was any different than the more affordable threading shop near my apartment. It cost me about $35 + tip for both a lip wax and brow threading. Usually, it costs me $15 + tip at other threading places. It's literally twice as expensive. They also kept pushing their package on me; like multiple times. It became uncomfortable and annoying. By the time I was done, I just wanted to get out of there due to their pushy-ness. For the cost at Shobha, I was expecting coffee/tea, a consultation with the technician, and maybe even a scalp massage and/or makeup touchup. At Shoba, it costs $22-$33 for brow threading alone. Minus the extreme upsell, the place where I usually go costs me $8, and they give me tea. UPDATE: I went back a few weeks ago and my experience was way better. They offered me a drink, the technician actually did a quality consultation with me, and at the end, she offered to touch up my brows with a pencil. It makes me wonder what was up with the person I had before. My only complaint was the constant "buy our package, they never expire!" They are so focused on selling their packages that it takes away from the experience. It's okay to sell a package with discounts if you get regular services, but if a client says "no thanks" just move on and say okay. No need to tell me, "but they never expire!" "you're throwing money away." I'll go back if I'm at work and really need my brows done, but overall, I'm going to stick with my neighborhood place that's half the price. They do an amazing job there and I don't have to get annoyed by the constant upselling of packages. read more

Ever since I moved from LES, I have been shopping for a new wax place as it is kind of a hassle to go back to my old place. A friend recommended Shobha and after reading the reviews here, I've decided to book an appointment with Datta. The soho office is centrally located and easy to find. The receptionists were pleasant and patient despite my tardiness (I was five minutes late to my appointment). Datta was no-nonsense, which I love in a waxer; she also didn't admonish me for waiting too long between appointments, which my last one did incessantly. Datta was quick and efficient, she didn't try to make small talks and got the job done within 10 minutes. I always prefer sugaring rather than the traditional wax treatment. I honestly don't know if it is "less painful" as a number of reviewers wrote, I think I do it more out of habit than anything else. Overall, I don't think it was less painful than the other places I've tried, waxing will always be painful for me, I've came to accept it. It is a bit more expensive than its comparable peers. However, I do recommend Shobha due to its convenient location and efficiency. read more
