I feel unattended, and unsatisfied With The Quality Of Work That Was Done On My Hair Recently Not Professional Work, Very Rushed Work. NOT RECOMMEND, I Sent the owner pictures of what I wanted on my short hair and she responded with she can do it for me. Set appointment the next day and complete did not listen to my needs or expectations didn't even inspect my hair... no consultation and just started working on my head gave me sloppy highlights was unable to give me a full blonde look. I just wanted my roots to be blended in and take me blonder with a full head of highlights. She made old school highlights on top of my head! And on my side of my head you can see the highlights instead of a smooth transition! I contacted the owner who did my hair, she said that she could not do anything she did what she could. She charged me $265 because she said she used oplex I payed $200... the price was adjusted i was confused how I had longer hair before and it was the same price and much longer. I have short hair above my shoulders and was still charging me the same price. NEVER had I had such a bad hair cut. I came here because of the Yelp reviews HUGE MISTAKE!!! Some lady named Maria cut my hair. She completely butchered it. So I was searching through reviews on yelp trying to find a good hair salon. I decided on this one. I called today at 5 pm to check what time they close, they told me 7pm, I assumed that meant I could drop by, especially because this place doesn't run on appointments. when I went by their doors were closed. I guess I can't blame them because the area seems shady. so I knocked and waited. A lady came to the door and asked me "Yes?" and I answered "um, can I get a haircut." She opened up only to tell me there was very little time, it was 6:11 at that moment, I told her it's ok I know what I want. I told her I want some layers and straight bangs. It took 20 to 30 minutes and when I got out of the chair I wasn't impressed. the look was ok, but its not what I had tried to explain to her before, but I guess she didn't understand because she only spoke a little English and mostly Spanish. The whole cut was $25. I was disappointed, and if I could post a photo on yelp I know none of you would think this cut is worth $25. To make things short, I need to find a better salons person or at east get someone else next time. This was a horrible experience! P.S. the hair stylist I got was Alejandra or something. read more

A month ago I made an appointment for updo and make up for as I was a bridesmaid this weekend. I live locally and wanted to have both services done in one place to avoid the back and forth. When I made my appointment I was told that they have a girl who does make up come in... Flash forward to one month later. I had my hair done by Maria. I liked the updo, it was very simple and classy. She was also pleasant. She is the only reason I gave 2 stars as my make-up experience did not go well. Maya proceeded to do my make up. I showed her a picture of a brown and champagne/gold color smokey eye. She says no problem and starts. I asked to see the results before she applies the false lashes and it was a bright gold and black eye. She did not blend at all and made the shape of the shadow very round as opposed to the eye I had showed her. I was okay and politely asked that she fix the colors. She also mentioned that she did apply the brown shadow but didn't like how it looked so she went with black. She should have showed me first but didn't. As she tried to fix it, it got worse and worse. The color got messy. After the third try she said " I tried, you can just do it yourself at home" and walked away. I was upset that now only 3 hours before the wedding I was left to look a mess. I do not recommend this salon to anyone. Maybe for very simple hair updos. But the actions of the owner was bad. She didn't even offer to discount my hair for the trouble. Terrible customer service. read more

I brought my mom in yesterday to get a cut and color. After reading the reviews I weighed the pros and cons and decided to give this place a shot. Let me just start by saying my mom has been to numerous salons over the years and her hair never turns out right, it's very thick and kinky so I can't say I blame the stylists for the level of difficulty. Maya was able to take my mom in on short notice (she had a last minute cancellation) and after a little discussion about what mom wanted Maya set to work. I was a little concerned because of how quickly she finished the initial cutting but the results were exquisite. She's fast because she has serious skills. The color was perfect and even throughout. The total cut, color, style and brows was $110.00, a very very reasonable price for the time and effort. She looks like a new woman and so much more youthful. I'll definitely be bringing her back. I can only wear wigs because of a medical condition but I'll be back to get my brows done. read more

I swear... I get the best haircuts in the 'hood. They accomodated my same-day appointment on a Friday afternoon and were pleasantly welcoming when I arrived. It seemed as though the patrons and staff all knew each other like family and seemed to be catching up with the latest chisme. Being the Salvi pocha myself, I waited off to the side and just enjoyed the warm familiarity that comes with the sounds of Latina women bonding. The haircut experience was quite enjoyable. My hairdresser hung my purse for me and proceeded to wash & condition my hair with fruity-smelling products. Not once did she tug my hair or burn my scalp with the hair dryer. She offered to style my tresses with a curling or flat iron, but I simply opted for a blowout. I left with casual breezy, bouncy hair. Yes, the neighborhood in which the salon is located is a bit hardscrabble and the parking situation inconvenient, but I'm not personally too bothered by this. I like that the charming details of the salon's interior reflect the owner's pride in her business and respect for her customers. Also, the store sells various hair products, tools, accesories and cosmetics. Not once was I pressured to purchase any of these items (however, the earring selection did catch my eye). I happened upon Maya's because it was not far from my home. They had a handful of reviews on Google, all of which were good. I called in and got a same day appointment. I told them my predicament and they asked why I was dissatisfied with the previous cut. I explained how the other person didn't listen to me and thinned my hair after I asked them not to. Maria was very sweet and fixed my hair cut. I walked away feeling better. Since then I only get my hair cut here. I've had my hair done by Maya, Maria, and Norma. I'd say my preference is to be taken care of by Maya or Maria. My trust in their skill has led to my Husband and Kids asking to visit Maya over any other barber (besides me :) They give a stylish and skilled hair cut and styling at a great value. There is no way I would ever choose anyone else. They wash, cut, and straighten my thick curly/wavy hair for $35. I have been going to Maya for about two years now. The Salon- the salon is small and quaint and located in the border of El Sereno and Alhambra. The environment provides that safe place for female gossip. On any given day you can hear the talks about someone's personal life without judgement. It's kind of like sitting at a family members house- food included. The Product- Maya and her crew definitely have a special touch. I have never walked out of the salon unsatisfied with a color, cut or blow dry. Expensive and extravagant salons I have gone to in the past have not been able to take me from one color extreme to another without hesitation like Maya. And still leaving my hair feeling in healthy condition. With Maya's keen sense of talent for color you will leave feeling confident and pretty. Things to keep in mind- bring cash, parking can sometimes be limited (street), be considerate in cancelling and/or rescheduling. I came in with yellowish ombré done by myself 2 months prior to coming here. I explained to Maria the history of dye I had done to my hair & how I knew I needed correction half ways of my hair due to previous black dye, I wanted my entire hair to be lighter all one-tone maybe a few highlights but not too many as well showed her a pic reference in how I ideally wanted it done. #1 She had her own idea for my hair, I reminded her I wanted to keep my hair light at the bottom as I wanted in the top she almost added a darker shade but I stopped her before she applied it. #2 As I saw her close to finishing my hair I began to notice there was hardly any mixer left, I thought she would mix a lil bit more for the lil left over hair I still had left but she DIDNT & shortly after she rinsed my hair, without giving my hair the properly sufficient time to let my hair process evenly. #3 She went crazy with the highlights & they weren't subtle either, in which I had specifically told her not to do. #4 The price was not as I expected & she over charged me. AND when I got home I examined the part where she didn't add enough dye & it was orange toned & a section of my hair was still dark, didn't even match the rest of my hair... I DO NOT RECOMMEND Maria even when reviews claim her to be the best, don't be a fool. read more

I recommend Crystal over Maya for hair cuts. Maya has no clue what she is doing with lightening hair color especially. I came in one day and I wanted my hair slightly lighter like an ash brown. My hair was a dark brown. I had told her I didn't want a drastic change. She recommended that she strip out the dark color I had previously in order to lighten and she assured me that the products she used is not harsh or strong. After she has striped my hair, my hair felt super damaged already but I hoped that with the med-light ash brown color will tone it down and get rid of that wire feeling in my hair. Almost 1 hour later after putting the hair color and blow drying, it was orange! some parts were brown in the back and the front was blone-orange and the rest was sooo orangy! it was so ugly and she thought it looked good! I looked terrible!! I told her I wanted it darker and she said any darker, it will be the same color as I came in??!! I had dark brown hair and I wanted it ash brown not that much lighter and she did it orangy??? Then she put a darker color but since the sun was down at that time, I couldn't see the true color and I thought it looked ok in the salon but I wasn't that happy about it and was tired from all the coloring and the heavy chemicals she used made my eyes and scalp burn!!! The next morning, I looked in the sun and it was sooooo orange still!!!!! Just a light brown/orange color and still felt soooo dry and I couldn't even untangle it, it was just a big mess. I cried... I will never come here again!!! For someone to be the owner of the salon, she should know better. I wasted so much money here. I would have rather left it alone. DO NOT RECOMMEND!!!!
