We've driven past Maybank Public House for years and finally decided to stop in after a trip to the farmers market. We split the fried chicken sandwich and fries and both were enjoyable. The portion size was average and perfect for sharing, as we weren't extremely hungry. Our order came out quickly. Our waitress was very sweet and attentive, which made the visit pleasant. While nothing in particular stood out as extraordinary, the overall experience was very solid and satisfying. The interior could use a bit of updating and some added decor to give it more character, but it did not take away from the quality of the food or service. My husband and I visited Maybank Public House for lunch. The parking is in a plaza near the Terrace Theater so lots of parking. There is indoor and outdoor seating available. They have a fully stocked bar with seasonal favorite micro brews on tap. The menu is very nice with daily specials like pork chops and saurkrat. They offer brunch specials, sandwiches and burgers and salads. The portions are generous and the prices are very reasonable. Our server was very attentive and polite even though the restaurant was packed! We ordered the biscuits and gravy with a side of fresh fruit. The biscuits were light and fluffy. The gravy was rich and well seasoned with chunks of delicious sausage. The fruit was cut into bite size pieces and tasted fresh. Maybank Public House, it is one of the best places to go out and have some tasty food accompanied by your furry family members. They allow dogs to be seated at the patio area. They even offer some water in a dog water bowl. The customer service is amazingly friendly and efficient. The kitchen staff knows how to cook the shrimp (every time (two different days) and each shrimp I ate the shrimp was perfectly cooked). Also, they know how to deliver a medium rare and well done burger meat. The ambience is very clean and cozy to spend great time with friends either drinking a good beer or tasing delicious food. Love how quickly we are always seated. The rooms are never empty and people seem to be having a good time, every time. Food came out fast and was tasty. I loved my red curry salmon. The sear on the salmon was delicious and the asparagus was cooked nicely. The curry was very light (not a strong taste at all). I will say my rice was a little too soft. Great little joint and lives up to your expectations if you've visited the OG in MP. Enjoy popping in here before or after a movie when we head to the Terrace. The service is always nice and with a smile no matter what time you make it in. We drug ourselves in just before closing time after seeing a later movie and they didn't scoff one bit. That's a refreshing take on a late-dining experience and made the food that is always delish taste even that much sweeter. If you like truffle fries, their parm truffle fries are legit. We came in at 7 pm on a Saturday night. We could have been seated in the dining room right away but chose to wait about 15 minutes in order to sit on the back patio. It was very quiet and comfortable there versus the bar area that was very loud with a group that was having lots of loud fun. Our server took great care of us. They had lots of different beers to try and she was very knowledgeable about the different beers. She even brought out a few to try for those that weren't sure which ones they wanted. I ordered steak frites, mini lamburgers, tuna entree without soy glaze and a gyro sandwich. Steak was amazing. Loved everything. I will go back for certain. I would give this place zero stars if that were an option. While I was on FaceTime, the bartender came over and told me I had to either leave the indoor area or go sit outside because it was "disruptive." Meanwhile, there were plenty of other people inside having loud conversations, yet I was singled out. Being on FaceTime is essentially no different than talking to someone sitting across from you. There is not a dedicated fryer so that eliminated numerous side selections. The staff is somewhat knowledgeable about gluten free/Celiac/Gluten intolerance. There was a miscommunication between our waitress about who had our table, so we waited for a long time before our order was taken. They apologized with a piece of cake though, which was nice. The Cuban was good even though it could have used some more sauce or something to make it a little less dry. The fries have a nice seasoning on them. Very oily. The cake was very moist and delicious. We've been here twice now and it's a great choice for American style bar food! The staff are friendly and food service is fairly quick. Parking is a little tough with several other businesses right around so you may have to circle a few times. The inside and patio are huge though so you shouldn't have trouble grabbing a seat. The Pimento Cheese BLT is good but more of a just a patty melt style, not a traditional BLT with pimento on it. The Aloha fries are our favorite item. A friend got the salmon added to her salad and it was a huge piece for the price. Inside is pretty standard feeling if not a little sterile. In February, my running club hosted a mixer on the outdoor patio at Maybank Public House to kick off 2022, and we had a wonderful experience. Sarah was our assigned server for the night, and she did great juggling multiple drink tickets and cards. Our club ordered an assortment of apps, and the server team was great at bringing them out when we had a large crowd show up and refilling them when we reordered after running out. We had around 30 attendees at several picnic tables, so this was not an easy task. We ordered most of our usual apps, like the pimento cheese, spinach dip, and truffle fries. The fried shrimp are a great addition to the appetizer menu, as they are easy to grab on your plate and go. The shrimp are large and fried perfectly crispy. Do request extra pita for the dips! Drink prices here are also reasonable, especially for the portion size. The margarita is my favorite, at only $9 and served in a pint glass. It's strong, and the drink is fresh squeezed, no bottled mixes here. I always look forward to coming here and highly recommend Maybank Public House as well as their sister restaurant, Coleman Public House in Mt. Pleasant. Both have large outdoor areas for socializing, and you can't go wrong with the apps. read more

I'm knocking down my Yelp to-do list. Getting shorter everyday. Lol. I came here on Father's Day with my kids. This place has been on my radar. I also have for other restaurants on Maybank highway I want to visit. I was thinking I would have to cross that bridge and go out to John's island. I'm pulling into the parking lot I understand that these places are in this parking lot. Also the movie theater I wanted to visit. The side of town is really came up. The whole city for that matter. The pictures of the food had me gaining weight before I even got here. Lol. I hate to be redundant. But I'm seeing a growing trend. I don't know why. Black waiters and waitresses are becoming extinct. I don't know if they're not applying but it's hard to believe there's not starving college students of color looking for jobs as others are. And I think about this often. There's a misconception black people don't tip. But I see the conception of them not hiring people of color except for the kitchen. They can also prepare them as a side for your entree. The pimento cheese is not that good. Doesn't taste homemade and really stiff for the pita bread. I had the chicken sandwich with a big old fried green tomato on it. With some of the lower price. It was stupendous. We also had the burger and which I don't remember the name. In search of an evening meal after a long shift at work on a beautiful day, Maybank Public House offered outdoor seating where we could bring the pup. We sat outside on the beautiful and large patio. Stumbling onto this place has been one of the best things to happen to me in Charleston since I have moved here just a short while ago. They offer more than just your typical bar food. The food has an Asian flair to to a lot of its items. But it's not just the uniqueness of the menu options that sets this place apart. The food is INCREDIBLE. I ordered the encrusted tuna. It was cooked PERFECTLY. I've made the mistake of ordering tuna at other restaurants and forgetting to order it rare (really shouldn't have to) and it has come out like leather. But at Maybank, it was perfectly seared and rare in the middle. Encrusted in a dough and seasoned to perfection. I'm pretty sure my girlfriend wanted to slap me because I couldn't stop talking about how good it was with every bite. When I moved to Charleston, one of the first places I happened to eat out was the Maybank Public House. Since then this has become our "Safe" place we take people to eat when they're visiting. The service is always incredible, fast and attentive. The food is always delicious and prepared just as we asked. My personal favorite is their Pimento burger, but even when I try other things I'm never let down. They also have a great rotating draft list which is always well balanced. The nice thing about this place is that it's also family friendly. We've brought everything from infants to rambunctious toddlers here and there's something for them to enjoy off the menu as well as not feel like you're destroying someone near you's dinner. The long booths are perfect for wrangling them. All in all, I know that if I mention to my wife going here... the answer is always yes. read more

Maybank has a persistent smell of bleach. Management is particularly frustrating, not sure if it is the owner or not but the last few times I tried to work through issues with wrong order etc. it just became defensive and not worth the fight.
