It's always very homey and welcoming inside! Our cupcakes were a bit overcooked today, but that's highly unusual for them! I always order my birthday cakes from Deweys. It's a little tradition in my family, but this cake I ordered for my husband's birthday was a disappointment and I hate to say that. The frosting trim that is typically encircling the top of the cake was not present. The frosting on the top was very thin, usually it's at least a centimeter thick. The trim encircling the bottom of the cake was old and dried out. Finally, they spelled my husband's name in lower case. I don't know if Deweys is trying to skimp on costs, but I was surprised at the lack of quality. I go to Deweys because of their excellent cakes and desserts. I am disheartened. read more

After recently moving here I had to try this 95 year old institution. This store is what dreams are made of. As the inventors of the renowned Moravian cookies to the cupcakes and special occasion cakes to cinnamon rolls and ice cream. The staff are all super friendly and willing to help pick out your favorite confection or special order your celebration cake. On my first visit I got a selection of cupcakes, ground house coffee and the famous Moravian cookies. The cupcakes were absolutely delicious as well is the coffee. I have always loved Dewey's bakery from a small child. Their cake squares are so delicious! Every fall, we love to get there pumpkin and sweet potato tarts. My only complaint is that the crust is never quite done enough, but the sweet potato and the pumpkin is always perfectly seasoned and never too sweet. I had a great experience. The staff was very welcoming and attentive. Everyone spoke to me and asked if I had any questions or needed anything. I love that. Dewey's also a sells cute little knickknacks and kitchen items. They also had some party items and local college and university items as well. I ordered a banana pudding Dewzy. It was very good and It had real bananas in it! You get a pretty large cup for a good price. Before today I have only had their cupcakes and cake squares but never a Dewzy. So far I have not tasted anything from Dewey's that's I haven't liked. It was the perfect treat for a really hot day. There are few tables and chairs outside for you to enjoy your treats and it's perfect because they are located under the building awning so you have plenty of shade. Dewey's is a little bakery that offers both baked goods and other sweet treats. The inside of the shop is a bit chaotic as it also sells trinkets and other items in addition to running a bakeshop. Today, I came in to try their newest creation, the Dewzy. The Dewzy is a layered ice-cream/cake treat served in a tall, transparent cup. The Dewzy is very visually appealing with all the layers and colors stacked on top of each other. We tried their Banana Pudding, Ultimate Chocolate, and Mint Chocolate Dewzys. Boy was this appropriately named! Initially, the Dewzy is quite tasty and the nice cool treat on these hot days are sorely welcoming, but that took a turn quite quickly. All the sugar started to weigh down on us and left us feeling extremely sluggish and uncomfortable. We had to sadly discard most of the food. If you were to come and try this treat, I'd definitely recommend sharing one as trying to finish one on your own is similar to taking on a food challenge. Nevertheless, the treat was enjoyable and definitely worth trying if you've got a sweet tooth! read more

However, I can now say that I AM a fan of their Dewzy desserts! Part ice cream sundae/part trifle these are seriously delicious! Since my birthday is tomorrow I chose the birthday cake flavor and it was layered with yellow sponge cake,vanilla ice cream, some buttercream icing and,of course, sprinkles. It captured that perfect, rich, nostalgic birthday cake flavor! I will give a warning that the "classic" 20 oz size is very large and I could only eat about 1/3 of it...But it's a perfect size to share with a friend! I ordered from Dewey's online, filled out a gift card request. Order was delivered without gift card so the recipients didn't know who sent the gift. When recipient called Dewey's, only a recording was possible, stating that would take up to 72 hours to find out who sent their gift. I, the sender of the gift called Dewey's store in W-S and they refused to help me, saying "we have nothing to do with online orders". I too called the shipping Dept. and customer service, again being told by a recording, they could not help me for 72 hours. I say this customer service department needs revamping. Service was super friendly and the crew seemed happy to be there! I ordered a Smores Dewzy, which the woman who made it completely misheard me and made me a black forest one, with cherry and chocolate cake. I would have taken it, but I honestly am not the biggest fan of chocolate cake. The Smores Dewzy was pretty good! It was mostly cake and whipped cream, hot fudge, etc. Nice and sweet and definitely satisfied my sweet tooth. My fiance got a chocolate milkshake and the consistency was perfect. Chocolately goodness! I actually got a Cinnamon bun too, which I sadly forgot to take a picture of. I have to say, it was a beautiful Cinnamon Bun. The white icing covered it and it looked absolutely incredible. The taste was even better too. It's taking me a few days now to eat it because it's quite large, but I am happy to extend the never ending goodness that it entails. I would return here for sure. I definitely would like to try more of their baked goods because indeed they are a bakery! Such a cute bakery! Located in a huge plaza with other stores, there is plenty of parking. Walking in your greeted by their store front that has clothes, mugs, cards, and other trinkets. Towards the back is their ice cream area and right beside that is the display case for all their baked goods. I believe they are most known for their cakes, from their specialty cakes to their cake squares. I've tried their vanilla cake square before which was alright, and their holiday turkey cupcake which was also very cute. Today I tried the red velvet cake square and carrot cake cupcake and was blown away! The cream cheese frosting on both was not too rich nor overly sweet but still had that delicious cream cheese flavor and texture to it. The carrot cake cupcake was my favorite, had plenty of cinnamon/spice and nuts. Red velvet cake was very rich and fluffy as well. Overall, a great place to stop by to fulfill a sweet tooth or if you need a cake for a special occasion. Everything was more sweet than I would personally like but I like the quality. Very pricey for a small (Pringles-type) can, but still worth the $10 bucks for a once a year unique treat and gift for office or friend gifts. They have a pastry deal, but 5 get 1 free so we got a chocolate cupcake, chess pie, coconut pie, 2 cream horns and a Napoleon. Everything was really good! My favorite was the chess pie. We also took home own do their famous Moravian sugar cakes and it was not good. I remember getting them years ago and they were so moist and buttery. This one was very dry and bland. I have a sweet tooth so I'm always trying new things. IMHO best cinnamon roll in town. Super soft and moist with just enough cinnamon filling. It's huge in size but not sickeningly sweet. There's icing but it's not drowning in it which is nice. I also like that Dewey's sells items like sugar cookies, love feast buns and Moravian sugar cake. However I think too much of the store is dedicated to gift items and sit around things. I almost feel cramped sometimes walking through the isle. read more

Dewey's is always on the list when I'm in the area. I've only ever had the cake squares and I'm more than satisfied with the selection and quality every time. They are not as cute as $6 cupcakes but they are definitely a delicious value. My favorite flavors are pink lemonade (may be a little too sweet for some), vanilla, and chocolate on chocolate. I believe I've had some tasty red velvet squares there, too, but don't recall seeing them when I was there last. They also have very cute "Carolina" gifts and decor for purchase.
