52. Orange Chicken

Ew. I decided to give it a try because of its location, but clearly made a mistake. I ordered the orange chicken and it was battered and served in a very sweet, one note, simple syrup sauce. There was canned pineapple with it. The soup was just very plain and underwhelming. I also made the mistake of getting a Thai tea, which tasted like milk. I will definitely not be returning.

Ordered via door dash. Just visiting Santa Cruz for a few days. We ordered the lunch special chicken Chow mein. Fresh fast and delicious. No need to say more .

Sweet and sour soup

Fast service but the hot and sour soup was unlike any other. Very sweet, little hot, not sour, stingy on tofu. Strong ketchup flavor.

Hot and Sour Soup is not supposed to be this color. Blech. It doesn't taste like it should.

*** Lunch Specials *** I wanted something inexpensive and close to home. I had a full day w/ Gavin (farmers' market, brunch, museum, beach, Target, and Trader Joe's), I figured it was time to feed our hunger. Enticed by the price more than ever, I walked in and was a bit leery because Asian establishments is scarce in Santa Cruz; Americanized Asian restaurants certainly do not count. I was greeted by a rather solemn and stern looking Chinese woman. She sat us down and gave us a menu. I liked having the pitcher of iced water on the table as I can refill it whenever I please. Kudos to that. The menu is rather extensive. Since we are still w/in the lunch time range, I ordered from that part of the menu. Each entree comes w/ a cup of soup, a piece of fruit (on your plate), and won ton strips. The hot and sour soup was awful. I think it's a crime to even call it "hot and sour soup". My son seemed to have enjoyed his egg drop soup. I didn't try it. W/ the help from my server, she suggested Mongolian rice plate because it is spicy. It is not spicy, BTW but I did like that the beef was tender. My son's chow mein and fried rice combo was a winner. Despite the slightly funny taste from the chow mein, I will not complain because I paid under $5 for it. It was very filling. On a budget? Want Chinese food? Come here but skip the hot and sour soup.

Food was ok, but the service was awful. The two ladies working the lunch shift were very rude. Won't be going back.

5 stars for their Cashew Chicken and other dishes. The Vegetables are alway fresh and crispy. The chicken is always tender.

I wasted my money. Food did not taste good and was expensive. I found a bone in sweet and sour chicken. Won't go there again.

This place was a real surprise to me. I followed directions…read moreand it took me to a little patio tucked away next to a bank - there was an open door to a kitchen and the patio had two plastic tables and chairs. A waitress noticed me quickly and came to ask if had placed an order or needed to. They have a big menu! The lunch specials are amazing deals - a main course, with chow mein, fried rice, and soup! All for less than $15?! In this economy?? So I ordered the cashew chicken and a starter of cheese puffs (wanton). The food was all flavorful, the chow mein had a deliciously satisfying chew, the cheese puffs had a tangy cream cheese filling. I would say there wasn't an abundance of chicken - but there was a lot of other food to make up for it. Oh and complimentary hot green tea! I will definitely come back again!

I ordered delivery through DoorDash and had mixed results. The beef with broccoli lunch special was…read moreokay--nothing particularly memorable, but it was probably the best part of the order. Unfortunately, the chow mein was one of the worst I've had. It was mostly noodles with very little meat, and the meat that was included tasted old. I ended up throwing away at least half of it. Normally, I would have sent it back, but since it was a delivery order that wasn't practical. I had hoped to save some for leftovers, but the quality wasn't good enough to justify reheating. I also ordered two char siu baos, but after my experience with the rest of the meal, my expectations are pretty low. My biggest concern was the packaging. None of the food was sealed in any way. The chow mein container had popped open during transit and was handed to me already open. The other takeout container wasn't taped or sticker-sealed either, and the soup came in a plastic container with no seal at all. In my opinion, restaurants using delivery services should place tamper-evident stickers or tape on all containers. Food should not be arriving open or capable of popping open during delivery. The lack of sealing was concerning and did not inspire confidence. The soup was also only about half full, which made me wonder whether some had spilled during transit or if that was the intended portion size. Overall, the beef with broccoli was merely okay, the chow mein was very disappointing, and the packaging raised concerns. Based on this experience, I do not plan to order from or visit this restaurant again.
